I flashed my first rom (ever) 3 days ago, so I'm clearly not the most knowledgeable person to answer this question, but I'll give it a shot and old hands on this message board can correct me. I will warn you though, you can search the website for this answer.
The wiki page is helpful... Read it and read this gazillion posts in this forum on that topic before you do anything. Make sure you phone is sync'ed with activesync, make sure your battery is over 50% charged and run HardSPL while your phone is connected via USB. HardSPL will walk you through what you need to do via on-screen prompts.
Once that's done, make sure your NHB & custom RUU file are in the same directory on your PC. Same warnings as before (activesync completed/50% battery) except this time run the custom RUU file. I actually used RaphaelWrapper.exe which you can find on this forum and this provided the same guided prompts on installing the ROM. That should do it.
What did I miss?
I tried running HARDSPL and it sticks on 0% what am i doing wrong?

Read, read, read, and then read some more.
yea i learned how to flash but where do i get the actual wm6 rom file? thanks
You find all answer to your question right here at FTP site!
ftp.xda-developers.com
So, connect there and spend a little time digging what you want! There're HTML files pointing directly to some sites keeping WM6 roms...
Just read as already said above!
Reading is still the best thing to do
Good luck!

Just go to the individual threads for each WM6 build. There are links on the first page of each one. READ!!!!! (please)
i got faria's wm6 rom and tried to install. everything went fine....or so i thought. when i reset it it boots up HTC and then geos straight to the bootloader screen. no matter how many hord/soft resets i do, it always does the same thing. what should i do now? thanks
If you have the bootloader up, you have access to your 8125 via the USB cable. Download the original 8125 ROM and re-flash it. The Cingular ROM is available from quite a few locations - a quick search should get you that ROM. You can also visit the HTC website and download the Cingular ROM. That'll put your 8125 back to the original configuration. Do this quickly, since right now your 8125 is not charging at all - soon your battery will be dead.
Instead of starting a new thread, you should post your "how do I do this" question in the applicable Faria thread.

Yes you battary will have to be 50% or more to flash your phone with the cingular roms. FYI
hi all what happens if the rom installation goes wrong??
i am going to use duttys dual touch rom v2.
if you follow the simple guides floating around in the forums you cant really go wrong. Remember once the rom has installed to do a hard reset to get duttys rom working at its best.
You could brick your phone.

If I remember correctly there was a thread which discussed devices that would not flash even though all of the instructions were followed. I think it had something to do with devices that had a certain date stamp on it.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I did a quick search on the forum titles but didn't see anything that rang any bells.
Dont worry yourself over nothing
Just follow the very simple steps as mentioned above. Been flashing for a couple years now and as long as you install the hard spl and follow the steps I see very little that can go wrong. Plus you really dont need to start new threads for a question, just ask in the existing thread or do a bit of research but like I said I wouldn't worry about it.
Make sure you install Hard-SPL first, then just follow the guides in this forum and you should be fine.
go for it bro would be very nice but the closest is dutty,s rom which is winderfull
Which SPL
Hi, I have researched a fair bit on flashing roms, and I am very newbie so please be easy. I just got a ATT Tilt and realize you have to flash Hard-SPL then dutty's rom correct? But which Hard-SPL do I use. I see there are different versions, is there any difference and will tehy all work? Thanks guys.
Use this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679.
It is working well on my Tilt . Just read the instructions carefully and almost* nothing can go wrong. Then flash the ROM of your choice.
*never say never ;-)
I have an AT&T Tilt that is locked to AT&T, and everything is stock. I am using windows XP SP3 32bit system. I have become very confused after reading for like a week. Everything is so scattered I just want to have a nice simple list as to EVERYTHING you need to do and in what ORDER it needs to be done. From all my reading I have come to think that this is what I need to do. Please correct me on anything that is wrong:
1.install JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe
2.install Kaiser-HardSPLv1
3.Perform Security Unlock
4.Perform SIM Unlock
5.Flash new ROM
And I really could not find exactly how you go about flashing the new ROM. I may have just not understood it. I downloaded Ruu_Signed_Duttys_WM6.1_Official_5.2.19209_1_58_16_27__FIX_ and when I unzip it, there are 2 files in there. Kaiser_RUU and Ruu_Signed.nbh. Do I just double click on the Kaiser_RUU on my desktop while hooked up to active sync? Same with flashing Radios. Do you just double click the icon on your desktop or do you have to transfer it over to your phone?
I know this may seem very simple to a lot of people but it was just very confusing to figure out everything and in what order. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Sounds Right To Me
I just did the exact same thing last night with the steps you typed there. You may want to get some of the particulars cuz, ur right, they can be confusing. This post helped me...
After you HardSPL than you sync and double click the exe file.
Cool. Thank you very much. I just wanted some reassurance before I did this.
Just read the sticky about HardSPL.
Then flash whatever ROM you want
hi guys i know u will say use the search button, but ive done all that and still lost.
i downloaded l26 rom and now do i just install it after ive got the sbl thingy or what has it tto be. its totally different to the exec way.i got a little bit scared when i was reading all about the problems.did it with the exec but the stellar is brandnew and worryed i might bugger it.
cheers in advance
Hi, i have the stellar from O2 as well and have sucessfully flashed many roms, first though you need to use JumpSpl to load HardSpl booter then flash the hardSpl system file which will prevent bricks, this is relative safe. Make sure you have the latest HardSpl for newer roms because some wont flash properly otherwise. I use Duttys new 1.6 rom which is fast and stable. First read the stickies
SSPL and all the techie stuff:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922
Use v3.56
Guide to kaiser and rom cooking etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369282
Then have fun flashing new roms.
right sooo i download jumpspl to stellar then hardspl, open and job done then i can drop on a rom like doing the exec.sorry for being so bloody thick.lol
wish we could have a thread like...
download this file ++++++++ to device then open then do x,y,z
instead of ...
download this link to here then open this here unplug phonethen plug back in and so it continues.making the instructions easy would i think stop all the worrying and asking from us so called noobs

So are you saying the Wiki is not easy to understand? Nothing about flashing the Kaiser is difficult. If you are having trouble understanding the steps, then I don't think you're ready for a phone such as the Kaiser.
i just get lost with it all iam a thick yorkshireman.i think its just me reading to much into it all.
It takes a good 3 hours or so to get to a point where you understand how to do it, but once you do it once all following flashes are DEAD easy.
The main issue I had was SIM unlocking my Orange TyTNII to get it so I could flash a new radio to it.
Once you have all the tools, it's really quite straightforward.
that is what i mean.its understanding it all, could be good to do a pdf so it can be printed out step by step.

now a htc logo thats different to the o2 one i had now the tier install.
looking good at this point.
i think its very daunting for members if they havent done it before with all the posts.
thanks to all.
Problem solved. Thread closed.
I got the last word! Woot!
As the title says, I seriously think I am just being stupid. But I have just spent the last 5 hours searching, trying, and just about anything I can. But I can't seem to get anything to work.
Now on to my situation:
I just got a new Tilt, it is not my first. My first one was when it first came out for AT&T. So it was still the WM6Pro and I SIM CID and HardSPL'd it. So I do know how to do this stuff. Just now with this new one, it must be a newer one, because it came with WM6.1 on it.
Here is what I know I have on it. Bootloader shows this.
KAIS1*0
SPL-3.56.0000
CPLD-8
And this is when the AT&T logo pops up.
R 1.65.21.18
G 25.88.40.05H
D 3.57.00.00
Now the first thing I am trying to do is HardSPL it.
I swear I have tried everything.
First thing I tried was the simple, Kaiser SIM/CID Unlocker & Changer , I start with the Flash-HardSPL and get to the Bootloader saying USB with the Rom updater showing the status bar. Then with the phone still in bootloader, I get Error [260] : Connection, The Update Utility cannot connect to your PDA. and so on.
So I exit that. Go on to the next try.HardSPL v3.07-3.56
All of them end up as the same result as the first. But I will explain what V3.28 as I have heard and read that that is one of the best ones to use.
Get to bootloader, Computer monitor shows status bar, and phone shows status bar. And I wait for it to do anything and then maybe a minute or two it gives me an error. Error [262] : Update Error, The ROM Update Utility has encountered communication errors during the update process. and so on for recovery.
I've also tried to do the HTC Kaiser Hard-SPLv1 - CID Unlock & Flash any ROM to your device (4 free)
When I start this one up it gets me to my screen being completely white. and I can not continue after that without taking the battery out and starting the phone again.
I have also tried other things that I just cant remember right now, cause I have been trying to do this for so many hours, and downloaded so many different things. So if you can and may help me, anything and everything will be appreciated beyond the gratitude I can give. Once again, I do know what I am doing, but I do not know what I am doing ARGHHH! lol.
I think you need JumpSPL1.56-KAIS, then hardspl , Im assuming this because you didnt say you did this step in your post.

I tried that one, and for 2nd poster, I did try that also. Sorry for not listing. But I still appreciate the help guys.
I was also thinking I had to go back to 6.0 but I went 55 pages back on this section of the forum, and I still cant find it. I'm still looking, but it seems like a dead end to me. =/
there was a guy having this issue a while back, look in the white screen thread towards the end! I will see what I can find for you!
Right now I found a 6.0 ATT rom, so I got that to work, now I will try unlocking it, thank you guys, and thanks to this post (70+ pages back!) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326933
Edit 1 :
Alright I got it back down to 6.0, but yet I still cant do anything with HardSPL, CID, or Security. If anyone has any solutions I will listen! Even if its bashing my head against anything! LOL! Sucks!
downgrade I don't believe is necessary

Nope, I didn't have to. My tilt came with 6.1. I had some problems, ended up switching to an XP laptop, was using Vista(prem. sp-whatever). It's too late here, but maybe tomorrow I can figure out what I did, but I think the main thing was using a windows XP pro machine - don't know if it needed to be pro, but that's what I had. Thereafter I've used the vista machine without problem. Good luck.

Meh, you need to use JumpSPL first. I've had this happen before, and JumpSPL cleared it right up for me.
I think Jocky has a few you can use. Check his HardSPL thread.
I first tried to use Vista, but then went back to my xp machine.
Edit :
I've tried to the JumpSPL but had major brain damage last night. trying it again with a fresh day. Will let you know.
Just got it, thanks guys. I apologize for just being completely brain dead. But I really am happy that you guys helped out. I finally got it flashed with the HardSPL It was really easy now. I just could not remember how to get to the file explorer. And the JumpSPL 1.56 worked. Thanks!
Yeah, well I can NEVER find anything via search here. Hell, to prove that point, I just typed "stupid" in the subject search line and found: NOTHING!!! I don't know what the deal is, but I've just pretty much given up searching this site.
Which leads to more reading than I'd typically care to do.
