Hey everyone,
If I have Opera open on my HTC Touch Pro with the hardware keyboard slid out, it still shows the onscreen keyboard (and it's annoying having to keep closing it all the time). Any idea how to fix this?
I too would like to know the solution for this. I have a feeling that this is kind of a feature from Opera and can't be disabled but it's very annoying for users with hardware keyboard.
I have this issue on my kaiser too

Actually, it's not Opera. It's Raphael itself. HTC should have made it in such a way that if the keyboard is out, the SIP should not be displayed.
To prove that it is not Opera, try creating a new SMS. Do this in portrait mode first. Try hiding the SIP and change field (To or Message). You'll see that the SIP is displayed every time you change field. Now slide out the keyboard. Try changing field and you'll see that the SIP is also displayed.
As far as I understand (from another post somwhere on the forum) it's not technically a bug...
It's a requirement of Windows mobile that the SIP is deployed whenever text is entered into a field. Seems rather daft when you have a hardware keyboard on your phone though...
I've had that registry tweak above work for me, the same tweak is implemented in Advanced Config 3.3 as well. There's another fix that *should* work throughout Windows Mobile, for text fields.
It's called nullkb, and installs an option into the SIP menu that gives you a null keyboard option, and any attempt to bring up the SIP brings up nothing. I installed it, and it appeared to work, but after a reset, it defaulted back to the normal keybaord, so you have to select the null keyboard everytime you reset the device.
I'd love to find a way to simply disable auto deployment of the SIP in ALL circumstances. NullKB forces you to go into the SIP menu and select another keyboard should you want to use symbols, for example. The registry fix only seems to (sometimes) work for opera.
I just want the SIP to stay hidden until I want it, and a single click on the keyboard icon should bring the selected keyboard up.
I have no idea how to go around getting this working, I'm more of an end user than a developer...
e: there's also this reg key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip\AllowChange=1
Change that to 0 and it disables the SIP entirely. I'm thinking this fix and judicious use of PQzII (once I figure out how the hell to set it up...) to set up hardware keys for lots of symbols (where the hell is "\" on the keyboard? On a WM phone I would've thought a \ key would be mandatory...) might be the way forward, though it's a fair amount of work to get everything set up.

That doesn't work, at least not on my CDMA Touch Pro.

Doesn't work on my CDMA Touch Pro That regedit makes the keyboard appear on screen all the time, with no way to minimize it.
it is a bug in opera...
it is well documented as one
you can see if you disable autodeploy of keybaord (use advanced config) and youll see it still appears in opera. the only work around is to download nullkb and select it as your input while using opera
I had the problem with nullkb that it wouldn't stay as the default SIP after a soft reset. Loading PQzII and setting a link to PQzII in the startup folder fixed this, as within PQzII you can select which SIP should be displayed in portrait *and* landscape individually.
This still means a couple of clicks to get a keyboard up in landscape for entering symbols, but if in portrait the SIP will display normally.
I still can't get the "\" to work properly through PQzII though... it displays odd characters whenever I enter it into any of the PQzII configuration options. I suspect \ is used extensively in the code or something, and this messes up what's going on inside PQzII.
Hi guys, im using a fuze, it has the HTC Stock Rom on it, the thing that pisses me off about it is the damn text messaging in landscape, this is what happens, i receive a text message, i want to reply, so i put it in landscape mode by sliding the screen so i can type on the keyboard, when i start typing the freakin dialer shows up and it gets in the way, is there any way to fix this. its so annoying
Simple. If you open the SMS from your mate first, so you're in the "instant-messaging-a-like" dialogue screen, THEN open the keyboard, you won't get that problem.
If you open the keyboard whilst you're still at the HOME screen, then you'll get the landscape version of the HOME screen, and typing stuff in there will automatically take you to the dialler.
The thing to remember is that if you're looking at emails, SMSs, the Weather or whatever in the tabs in the HOME screen, the application you're using is the HOME app (Manilla), so opening the keyboard up is just going to get you that landscape version of HOME with all the application tabs. It's only when you actually open up an SMS / Email etc. that you enter the appropriate application, and at that point the keyboard is "owned" by that app and opening the keyboard up will get you the landscape version of that app instead of the landscape version of HOME.
Hope that helps.
haha, well i guess i kind of worded it wrong, what i meant to say was when i get the text message a little box shows with the message, when i hit reply which is in the lower left corner it enters the messaging application once there i put the typing cursor in the text area, when i slide up the screen to use the keyboard it kicks me out of the messaging app and then takes me to the dialer. once i close the dialer then i can continue typing
Turn off the notification box. When you get a new SMS, you get a green indicator against the SMS tab on the HOME screen anyway, so it's not necessary. When you get an SMS, it'll still play a sound and give you an indicator on the top bar. This'll get round your problem.
coming from a tilt and many other windows mobile devices im very used to the way the text messaging works, i really like the pop up notification more than just a green number.
Same Problem with MDA VARIO II
I got this problem with the MDA Vario II and I still get it with the TOUCH PRO
It would be great to fix it.
Anyone have a cab or reg edit to stop the sip keyboard to always pop up when u select a text field/box? Like when your using opera mobile, u touch the address bar, the sip keyboard automatically pops up. I always use the hardware keyboard (main reason for getting a fuze and not a diamond!) and still while in landscape the sip keyboard will still pop up.
I know on my tilt there was a way to set it so only when u are in landscape the sip keyboard wont automatically pop up while selecting a text field. The sip keyboard will only automatically pop up in portrait mode while selecting a text field. Anyone know how to set it up this way? Thanks!

If you have Diamond Tweaks installed, there is a registry setting under the #20 Keyboard (SIP), 20.1 Automatic display (popup). Enabling that setting should keep the SIP keyboard from popping up when you select text fields, but it will not pop up when in portrait mode by default either. I don't remember the registry setting to disable the pop up for landscape mode only.

Thanks! This will do for now at least. If somehow knows how to disable sip auto pop up in landscape while keeping it obviously in portrait that would be amazing! Anyone?

With Opera there is a different setting. Not sure what it is off the top of my head but if you search on the hacking section you will find it.

Thanks, ill try this out too. The diamond config as mentioned above did totally nothing for it, if anything it made it worse. Im sure a reg edit like this will kill it though. I dont use opera mobile too much, just used it as an example. I mainly use opera mini in landscape so it can get annoying when typing in a text box and every time you open it the sip keyboard pops up.

Didn't find a solution for Opera. Although it is not the issue of the keyboard popping up when i touch a text box that bugs me, its more when a page is loading and the keyboard appears for no reason
I use nullkeyboard. yeah, it completely kills the sip for everything, but one can switch it back and forth similar to choosing type of input (transcriber, keyboard, letter recognizer, nullkeyboard)

I think it has to do with flashlite 3.1... As soon as I installed it on my phone, Opera began doing the same thing. As soon I touch a flash object, the keyboard will pop up. Very annoying but I've learned to deal with it.
I am still looking for a fix for Opera.

You can try Mobilnaut SYM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459253
The main purpose of this software is to be able to use the SYM key to add accents on letters, but in addition it will automatically hide the SIP keyboard when you open the hardware keyboard:
It's simple SIP, which means it will be shown as standard input method, but when you click on the icon, no keyboard will be shown. That's useful when you are using hardware keyboard and you are trying to type something, with this SIP no software keyboard will pop up and cover half of the screen. And it's automatically activated only in landscape, in portrait mode you can use your favorite software input method. This program will remember the input method you used before, and when you slide your keyboard back, this method will be set as active.

I installed this one but since I have a FUZE keyboard, I don't have the SYM key where mobilnaut sym thinks it should be. Instead, my SYM is on FN+Space, and when I hit that, I get a pop up list with all the characters for me to pick.
I have no clue how to do it, but if we could have this app work with a key different to SYM it would work!
Hi all,
everytime I open a game like Tonyhawk Pro skater 2, or if i want to learn italian with rosetta stone software, always I see a bottom bar with the sip keyboard. For Tonyhawk its irritating cause i could see the game bigger, and for rosetta stone, it totally ****s up my layout.
I tried reg. edits. HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip
"TurnOffAutoDeploy" value="1"
Tried nullkeyboard program, even tried advanced config, but the lower bar is always there.
is there a way to open programs in full screen? or is there a way to totally kill my lower menubar for wm.6.5?
I do not remember this with the old ROM but since the update, when I go to type a SMS text message or a url within either IE or Opra, I get this damn annoying black line that shows up above the on-screen keyboard and if using the slideout keyboard, I get it to. It inputs everything I type into this box as well as into the text mesg or url box. I have tried all the options in the Settings/Input to no avail. I just want what I type to go directly into the SMS message or into the url box without it going into this other box. Now everything stays highlighted and I have to hit enter twice to get it to be inputted....very very annoying. Anyone got a way I can shut this thing off?
I'm not sure why this happens this way but just about every time I go to compose a new SMS, as soon as I start to type in the main text field, it puts up the 'select' cursor which is the little blue box that hangs over the 'W' key on the keyboard.
If I need to start typing and the first word starts with a W, I have to wait about 5 seconds for this cursor to disappear so I can then hit the letter. How the hell do I remove this and stop it from happening? I'm not sure what to look for in the settings but as of yet haven't seen anything. I'm on the latest version and it's been happening for the past few revisions.
Oh and I'm using Smart Keyboard Pro if it's possibly a keyboard issue and not the fault of Go SMS Pro itself.
[EDIT] I think the problem is that when I go to compose a new message, the cursor is blinking in the field to type but my keyboard isn't on the screen. When I click the field to get the keyboard to pop up, then it brings up the cursor which you'd normally see if you want to select text and/or past something from the clipboard. I just tested in Dolphin HD and this doesn't happen this way as the keyboard presents itself as soon as I click in the url field.
