Reduce screen resolution - QVGA Apps - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hi guys. I was wondering if there's a way to reduce the display size of the Touch Pro / Diamond.
A few games I like only run in the upper left corner of the screen. Is there a decent app like realvga that works backwards and won't mess up the device?
If I can get The Sims working on my gf's Touch Diamond I'll be in the good books

Oh ffs, this was meant to be in the Raphael forum, not the ROM development forum. Sorry, please mod it as you see fit.

Ive got the same problem with an application I have to run for work . It worked on my Mogul, but this new Touch Pro makes it bunch up in the upper left. I know theres got to be a simple way to throttle down the resolution. Maybe forced to develop one and patent it , lol . Maybe struck oil ?

Yeah I wish there was a way to "downgrade" the resolution by choice.. like the way you do in windows.. that you can pick your reso from 176x160 up to 640x480!

http://www.nyditot.com might be the answer.
I haven't tried the software myself on TP yet, though !

Does any have Viewing angle problems with Orbit 2??

Hi I would like to ask all of you orbit 2 users out there.
I own one and its giving me a great headache because of the screen. I mean it physically. Cause of the screen.
I use the screen under normal room lighting so no bright sunlight or anything but when i try to watch movies or take photos in landscape mode I would notice a very bad discolored view when I am watching anything in landscape mode.
Also when in potrait mode, the discolored view will occur when I look at it from a slight top-down angle. I hate that . Is this suppose to be normal for all the other orbit 2 or am I just the "luck" one ?
REally need to sort this out, love this phone but this problem is giving me loads of headache. Practically killing me slowly,, any advice or help would be greatly appreciated?
Thank you.
PS. I have just passed the 28 days exchange period , so no hope of getting it exchanged. Hope I can get it fixed from o2 but I read somewhere that there is no replacement screen out in the market yet.
Sorry buddy, I don't have any of the problems you're talking about.
I know a lot of people complain that their phone is giving us headaches with no drivers but not literally. Your phone should not be giving you physical headaches.
Also watching a movie on that screen can't be too good. In my opinion it's too small to concentrate on for long periods of time. I have never watched anything on there for more than 10 minutes.
Hi thanks for the reply,
I see you own a HTC Touch Cruise. I have a slightly different model although I know they are the same.
But the screen is different for orbit 2. I have know touch cruise to have not known such problems. But seriously dude, this screen of orbit 2 is way too different for proper viewing. I am not someone who asks alot or have high expectation out of my phone. But if you have seen it it would be unacceptable by any standards.
Also i have compared a touch cruise with mine orbit 2. The differences is unbelieveable.
Thanks for the reply.

I raised this issue when I first got my Orbit 2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=367550
I've read somewhere that the Orbit 2 and TC use different screens with the Orbit having crappy viewing angles

Thanks for your comment.
I see now that my worse fear is coming true. Guess until I see more response, I will still try to hope that is only a few isolated cases that the orbit 2 has a viewing angle problem.
Hopefully more orbit 2 users will give me their feedback.
Will keep my finger crossed until then.
Really love this phone. First phone I really grown into it. Dun do this to me.

I have found the same problem in certain situations... but If I view with the wheel to the left the screen is fine... Viewing angle is like an old-aged TFT but still... it's clear and viewable straight on.
with the wheel to right (Camera default due to button position) the screen puts a lot of strain on my eyes with or without glasses... just seems like it's blurred but it's not...
For vids.... use CorePlayer... default full screen seems to be with the wheel to the left.
And thankfully my fav game Worms is a wheel to left game.

Hi phil,
thanks so much for sharing with me. I understand this pain you face with orbit 2. Movies or surfing the net or even taking pictures kills u. Did you do anything about it? complain to o2 or send it back to them for repairs ?
cause I am close to sending it back. I just cant bear to be without a orbit 2 for weeks. As you know repairs takes weeks or even months. So I will send it only as my last option.
Also is there a free coreplayer I can download from somewhere to try out whether it works on my phone before I buy it ? I cant find it anywhere and everyone been saying good things about them. Saying they fix the video issue we have caused by HTC whom didnt provide the proper driver for us.
Thanks,

leynos
Hi,
I noticed the same problem the very 1st time I used my Orbit2 in landscape. In portrait mode, if you watch the screen as you move your viewing angle up and down you can really see haw much this screen varies. So when you view in landscape, with each eye seeing the same part of the screen differently it gets really uncomfortable and hard to focus on.
In portrait the screen is ok (much better than my old MDA compact) but in landscape its worse!

No, I've kept mine... apparently it takes a while on the repairs turn around so I try for over-phone fixes... But I doubt there will be a fix for the dodgy LCD unit in these...

TCMCP or something named to that effect... What CorePlayer apparently derived from. Although the codec support is better that built in media players it really makes no difference to playback.
CorePlayer does however playback 320x240 Xvid and Divx AVI with mp3 audio at 400kbps bitrate and 15fps fine (hence my MSDHC is now full of Family Guy)
CorePlayer is worth paying for... I demo'd it via a torrent download first as I couldn't find an actual demo/trial and was sceptical but have since purchased a licence/key meaning all is legal
And I don't recommend or condone any illegal downloads! even if for a short period that was hypocritical .

Guess I will have to wait until there is sort of a third party upgrade LCD unit available for orbit 2.

Cool , sound pretty powerful with it. But still the orbit 2 is not good for watching videos with their lousy LCD.
Just tot of this question below,
Any suggestion where I can sell it off and get a touch cruise from ? except on ebay.. sorry dun like using them.
I agree with you in paying for it. CAuse I do some programming work here and there. I understande the pain of your work being pirated.
Thanks for the info, guess I will have to source out coreplayer and give it a go. And see if it works well.

non vga apps on this screen

so my question is how do they show up on a vga screen? are they stretched or do they just show up in native resolution in a corner or something or do some not even work?
just hoping enough stuff is actually out there to look good on the device

Or do they look completely messed up like Mundu IM does?
I was prepared to pay for that nice and cheap piece of software but it just doesn't work in VGA resolution...

a good IM program is slick but again dont know how it works in vga
Yahoo Go doesn't work
Some software has been programmed with VGA in mind, other stuff hasn't. As VGA becomes more common, more apps will support it.
Can't you use RealVGA? or something?
gsplayer doesnt work but quick search on gogle does the trick

My uni is dead and i am happy...

: ) exactly
Any real-life experience about the performance anybody? From QVGA to VGA the pixels quadrupled resulting in bad performance for e.g. navigational applications or any other apps which used non-accelerated graphics. This especially shows when using landscape on the Uni. (Try TomTom in portrait mode and then in landscape.)
Is there any info about the performance on those new hi-res devices?
Cheers,

so i think touch pro will be a good replacement... It could be better with a bigger screen...
How about the Toshiba Portégé G910? It has a high screen resolution (800 x 480) as well plus GPS built in and a fingerprint reader. Its the same type of device as the HTC Universal, even better because of the second monochrome display on the cover.
On a russian Toshiba distributers page i´ve read that some progs dont running on a 800x480 screen at all. Dont remember which prog exactly, it was an GPS Navi Prog. IGoMyWay 8 is running fine on that device.

If you are happy because your Uni es dead, I think there is no point suggesting, as any device would make you happy again...
I´ll never be happy if my Uni dies!, better to have it working and get a second device!
Good luck
I went from Universal to Touch Pro. And I love it. I recieved it a week ago and thought that the smaller screen would be anoying, but now I dont think about it anymore. And also its nice to have a phone you can actually have in your pocket.

i agree with you about a phone we can have in our pocket... i have seen a dummy touch pro today, nice phone but screen is really small. I dont know how it is in use. you say it is not annoying... is it because you are used to use it after a week or is it really a good screen... can you make a comp. between universals 3.6 screen with that?

TP indeed has a god screen. Its very sharp and clear which realy compensate for the smaller screen. After using it a day or two i didnt think about the small screen anymore. I think the screen is as good as Universals.
Also the browser Opera gives a good experience while surfing on the web. Its very easy to zoom.
I use to be a dedicated netfront 3.5 user, but nt3.5 just dosent work on TP. It makes the TP crashing every now and then. And using the bookmark is not as smooth at it was on universal. But Opera is a very good alternativ.
Decision is made : ) I will wait for htc hd... because touch pro is still not here... When it comes, there will be only 2 months to htc hd.... Touch pro is too late... The secod reason is, i think hd phones is a new area so i will use my money on a htc hd...
I'm not happy
contrary to you, i'm not happy my uni dead......
I have a hermes with me, just because it has qwerty, but the screen position is not comfortable.....because it cant be bend.....

Im in need of some advice.

Hey guys! this is my first time posting on this forum and i need some advice from yall. i just got the new att samsung epix yesterday. im pretty sure this is the US version of the samsung i780. im really enjoying thus phone. but i just found out that the touch pro is coming to att in a few days and it looks like a really good phone. my question is should i stick with this phone or will i be happier with the touchpro? it will cost me $100 more to get the fuze but is it worth it?
-Alex
P.S. - i typed this on my epix
It is definately worth it to switch.
Following reasons:
G-sensor
Light Sensor
Capactive buttons
Cooler looking
Tv-Out
Disadvantages:
Bigger? lol
Less battery =/ I think the Epix has a bigger battery
The keyboard is slide out (that's personal opinion)
and do I know you? Someone told me they got a epix yesterday lol
Kraize
I think i`ll buy me a TP (or x1). I just want to know if you are happy with your TP.
Thanks in advance.

I don't have a touch pro. Just recently went to a store to handle a epix but got to fondle with a fuze too . Here is the breakdown
Touch Pro (Fuze):
Video Out
G-sensor
Light sensor
TF3D
Smaller battery
$100 more
Epix:
Just US version of the i780
Not all apps are compatible with the screen resolution.
Big battery
No g-sensor or light sensor? (I may be mistaken about the light sensor)
X1:
Almost same as touch pro except the following:
No video out, g-sensor, or tf3D
Sony Panels
Embedded screen (BLAH! I hate this on my tilt as well. So it totally turned me off from the x1)
Basically, if the Epix had a g-sensor and could fully run tf3d, it would so win. I like the touch pro though. For the sole reason that the screen is embedded in the x1, I would not get it. It totally ticks me off. On my tilt, I can barely click the things in the corner cause the screen is embedded. So it's a no no for me.
Thanks for that info! Looks like umma take this epix back. Don't get me wrong it's a great device but for 100 dollars more I can get so much more with the fuze. And I don't think I know you

Resistive Screens

Hey all,
Recently a friend of mine got the N97, and having used it I am shocked at how good the touch screen is. Eventhough it is resistive like my raphael, the response and pressure measures up to the iphones (ok not exactly but much nearer than mine does)
Can anyone explain why this is? Does nokia just make better drivers?
Regards
Have a look at this thread. Now my Touch Pro can select anything on my screen with a very light tap as opposed to pressing on screen. Beware though i have notice that sometimes it selects stuff rather than scroll on screen but i have to say its much better than pressuring the screen.

Thats weird that you have issues with it selecting rather than scrolling, i have been using the iTouch_azharsunny.cab from that post for weeks and have never noticed this myself...i hate how there are so many different hardware configs of our phones!
Mine is almost the same as iphone... haha... sure beat N97
Just change the registry key...
Go to HLKM/Drivers/TouchPanel using registry editor such as total commander or PHM
Change the PressureThreshold value to 80866 in decimal (Not Hexdecimal)
After that, go to HLKM/Software/OEM/TFLOSettings.
Change FingerPressure value to 1 in decimal (Not Hexdecimal)
Soft-reset ur device...
Am using Latest 11th august Energy3.0 23016 ROM now
