My uni is dead and i am happy... - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

yes my uni is almost dead... The problem is screen... It is working sometimes but not always... But as i said i am happy... Why..? yes because i have now a reason to buy a new phone. Uni was a perfect phone/pc : ) It was tired after all this rom i have tried... It can not more... I was so happy for it...
...and all of you... Thank you all for to make this community posibble... I need your help for last time...
As i said i will buy a new phone. Options are touch pro-xperia and touch hd. I was so close to buy touch pro but... xperia and touch hd have a high resolution screen (800 X 480
TFT-skærm) I think with these two phone open a new area in phone history.
So the problem is... Should i buy touch pro or xperia... I can wait for xperia but i think that the screen can make some problems with software... etc... am i wrong? thanks again...

Touch pro. Unless theres a touch hd pro on its way!

: ) exactly

Any real-life experience about the performance anybody? From QVGA to VGA the pixels quadrupled resulting in bad performance for e.g. navigational applications or any other apps which used non-accelerated graphics. This especially shows when using landscape on the Uni. (Try TomTom in portrait mode and then in landscape.)
Is there any info about the performance on those new hi-res devices?
Cheers,

so i think touch pro will be a good replacement... It could be better with a bigger screen...

How about the Toshiba Portégé G910? It has a high screen resolution (800 x 480) as well plus GPS built in and a fingerprint reader. Its the same type of device as the HTC Universal, even better because of the second monochrome display on the cover.
On a russian Toshiba distributers page i´ve read that some progs dont running on a 800x480 screen at all. Dont remember which prog exactly, it was an GPS Navi Prog. IGoMyWay 8 is running fine on that device.

If you are happy because your Uni es dead, I think there is no point suggesting, as any device would make you happy again...
I´ll never be happy if my Uni dies!, better to have it working and get a second device!
Good luck

I went from Universal to Touch Pro. And I love it. I recieved it a week ago and thought that the smaller screen would be anoying, but now I dont think about it anymore. And also its nice to have a phone you can actually have in your pocket.

i agree with you about a phone we can have in our pocket... i have seen a dummy touch pro today, nice phone but screen is really small. I dont know how it is in use. you say it is not annoying... is it because you are used to use it after a week or is it really a good screen... can you make a comp. between universals 3.6 screen with that?

TP indeed has a god screen. Its very sharp and clear which realy compensate for the smaller screen. After using it a day or two i didnt think about the small screen anymore. I think the screen is as good as Universals.
Also the browser Opera gives a good experience while surfing on the web. Its very easy to zoom.
I use to be a dedicated netfront 3.5 user, but nt3.5 just dosent work on TP. It makes the TP crashing every now and then. And using the bookmark is not as smooth at it was on universal. But Opera is a very good alternativ.

Decision is made : ) I will wait for htc hd... because touch pro is still not here... When it comes, there will be only 2 months to htc hd.... Touch pro is too late... The secod reason is, i think hd phones is a new area so i will use my money on a htc hd...

I'm not happy
contrary to you, i'm not happy my uni dead......
I have a hermes with me, just because it has qwerty, but the screen position is not comfortable.....because it cant be bend.....

I couldn't find any Touch Pro reviews on gsmarena, only Diamond. Can you please provide a link?
Thanks!
Ok - the T-Mobile Vario 4 aka Raphael:
First impression: smaller and not as heavy as the Kaiser... unlike the HTC version there is not that annoying diamondshaped backcover so that it lies even on the table.
It has still no infrared - so forget about your all-in-one-remote... but: the camlight is back! yiha! Additionally, the camera is a lot faster than on my kaiser!
The usb-jack supports a video-out cable which is not included... and unfortunately it is located now more in the center of the device: so go buy a new active car-holder
The keyboard slides out now on the other side again (like Tytn I) and has now 5 rows of very touchy, respondive buttons... hey and there is a ctrl / strg button now!
The Vario 4 HAS a fm Radio and an acceleration sensor!
The rom including its TouchFlo3d is pretty fast... no comparison to my Kaiser.
GPS is on board, but didnt test how fast it gets its fix.
The display with its bigger resolution is very nice - but its a little bit reflective for my taste - and i guess placing a screenprotector on it will vanish its frameless design
Its only tri-band, but as long as u stay in good old europe: no problem All others need to wait till the end of the year when its released in U.S. as a quadband (not 100% sure about that release date). Browsing with the preinstalled opera in hsdpa is really a fun!
All in all: a very sexy device which kicks the ass of my kaiser as well as all those iphone kids!
PS: Sorry for my english
Edit: I forgot - the 10sec backlight bug is on board, but putting a mortscript into autorun will solve it

Can you please give a statement about the reception quality of HSDPA/3G compared to your Kaiser? Is it equal, worse of better?
You know there's an issue with the Diamond, but hopefully the different housing/(antenna setup?) could solve this problem for the Touch Pro.

hmm... no issues so far. I am running Tejaks V5 on the kaiser which is damn fast... but i would say the Vario 4 faster somehow. Reception is good too.
@licht77
since you didn't mention it, I take it the screen does not "tilt" when the keyboard is pulled out. I really love this feature on my kaiser.

But that's when it's vertical right? When it's horizontal the accelerometer tilts it, doesn't it?
There is no "tilt" feature for the "Touch Pro" like the "Kaiser" has.
Smaniac, I think you talk about screen orientation (landscape mode). Of course the Touch Pro rotates the screen in general, but "tilt" is something completely different.

Oh lol, now I see what you mean. You mean the screen doesn't physically rotate when keyboard is used. Yes, I knew that, and I think I prefer the 5 row fixed keyboard instead of a 4 row tilting one.
I wouldnt be surprised if it was marketed as the "AT&T Touch Pro", or perhaps the AT&T 3525 or similar.
Camera and hardware buttons
licht77,
Could you please confirm: there are many less hardware buttons compared to the kaiser, is this correct? Counting on the Kaiser there are 8 in the front (plus action and dial) plus the side's jog wheel and four side buttons (including power) and from what I saw on the Raphael there are only four in the front (plus action and jog) and the power button on the sides?
And camera: how much it differs in terms of picture quality from the Kaiser?
I thank you.

Another "which phone should I get?" thread.

Hey Guys
im a long time winmob user and currently own a HTC Touch Diamond. I am fed up with this phone, even with cooked roms its still slow in TF3D and, its so easily scratched that after a month its covered in small scratches.
I swore after my TyTN I would never buy another HTC device and didn't until this phone ... and now I remember why I said I would never do that!
So, I need a phone of similar specs to the Omnia but would like a higher resolution screen. Also, the reviews say the Omnia is buggy so, which phone should I go for?
i plan on trying out the x1
not out yet ,..... and its a HTC device so thats a big fat no (probably)

its a HTC manufactured, but not a HTC device dear. Check out its reviews
dear????
Correct - its HTC hardware/build/components that are ....er ..... don't think im able to swear so, I will just settle for complete crap. HTC software and hardware "features" are great!
Example, awesome 640*480 screen on touch diamond, gets scratched to hell too easily.
If your screen gets scratches, buy a damn screen protector. There's so many available.
wow .... such aggression ..... Why are you so angry? Not like I'm having a pop at you or anyone else is it?
Screen protectors dull the screen so no thanks. The screen is just ONE example, not the ONLY example. I can list some more if you like?
And I didn't have this problem with my Tosh G900....

Im in need of some advice.

Hey guys! this is my first time posting on this forum and i need some advice from yall. i just got the new att samsung epix yesterday. im pretty sure this is the US version of the samsung i780. im really enjoying thus phone. but i just found out that the touch pro is coming to att in a few days and it looks like a really good phone. my question is should i stick with this phone or will i be happier with the touchpro? it will cost me $100 more to get the fuze but is it worth it?
-Alex
P.S. - i typed this on my epix
It is definately worth it to switch.
Following reasons:
G-sensor
Light Sensor
Capactive buttons
Cooler looking
Tv-Out
Disadvantages:
Bigger? lol
Less battery =/ I think the Epix has a bigger battery
The keyboard is slide out (that's personal opinion)
and do I know you? Someone told me they got a epix yesterday lol
Kraize
I think i`ll buy me a TP (or x1). I just want to know if you are happy with your TP.
Thanks in advance.

I don't have a touch pro. Just recently went to a store to handle a epix but got to fondle with a fuze too . Here is the breakdown
Touch Pro (Fuze):
Video Out
G-sensor
Light sensor
TF3D
Smaller battery
$100 more
Epix:
Just US version of the i780
Not all apps are compatible with the screen resolution.
Big battery
No g-sensor or light sensor? (I may be mistaken about the light sensor)
X1:
Almost same as touch pro except the following:
No video out, g-sensor, or tf3D
Sony Panels
Embedded screen (BLAH! I hate this on my tilt as well. So it totally turned me off from the x1)
Basically, if the Epix had a g-sensor and could fully run tf3d, it would so win. I like the touch pro though. For the sole reason that the screen is embedded in the x1, I would not get it. It totally ticks me off. On my tilt, I can barely click the things in the corner cause the screen is embedded. So it's a no no for me.
Thanks for that info! Looks like umma take this epix back. Don't get me wrong it's a great device but for 100 dollars more I can get so much more with the fuze. And I don't think I know you

Reduce screen resolution - QVGA Apps

Hi guys. I was wondering if there's a way to reduce the display size of the Touch Pro / Diamond.
A few games I like only run in the upper left corner of the screen. Is there a decent app like realvga that works backwards and won't mess up the device?
If I can get The Sims working on my gf's Touch Diamond I'll be in the good books
Oh ffs, this was meant to be in the Raphael forum, not the ROM development forum. Sorry, please mod it as you see fit.
Ive got the same problem with an application I have to run for work . It worked on my Mogul, but this new Touch Pro makes it bunch up in the upper left. I know theres got to be a simple way to throttle down the resolution. Maybe forced to develop one and patent it , lol . Maybe struck oil ?
Yeah I wish there was a way to "downgrade" the resolution by choice.. like the way you do in windows.. that you can pick your reso from 176x160 up to 640x480!
http://www.nyditot.com might be the answer.
I haven't tried the software myself on TP yet, though !

XPERIA X1 vs touch diamond2

which one is better to get.
i can get both phone on almost same price in used condition.
Mmm hard one, if you like a d-pad & hardware keyboard the x1 is your device, I just set up a Diamond 2 for a work friend, quite a nice device but I did miss d-pad & a hardware keyboard is simply better than any touchscreen for serious typing.
any suggestions?
As a diamond2 user myself, i would definitely go for the x1 just for the keyboard.
If typing is not that important to you, you should probably go for diamond2.
I have X1 for about year and a half. After few months of use it developed a crack in the housing (standard issue). Today physical keyboard is pain to use, since bottom row buttons barely register presses (sometimes nothing, sometimes 3-4 letters at once). At least in my case, my xperia's build quality is terrible.
Another issue is the SOD (appears on most ROM's with Sense), when phone freezes overnight just when just have to wake up on time in the morning.
If I was looking for a used phone with a keyboard, I would probably look some more for a TouchPro.
well typing is not that important to me.

Well in that case I would probably go with a Diamond 2 & load it with a 6.5.3 series ROM making it more UI touch friendly.
The Diamond is a nice sized device, has g-sensor & a practical notification LED.
Another plus is build quality is good & the Topaz forum is very active.
how about screen resolution?
which one has the more sharp colors and bright screen?
Have a look here for a detailed comparative where all your questions will be answered
