Well, for those that have owned both, think it's worth the upgrade/change from a tilt to a fuze?
I only got Fuze because I broke my Tilt. If Tilt was still working I don't think I would have upgraded for $500 (full price since I did not use my upgrade)
If there was a Black Friday sale and Fuze was $150~$200, then I would have upgraded even if I had Titl just for the VGA screen.
With the VGA screen I can use LogMeIn and access servers and computers I manage from anywhere.
It was possible with QVGA as well but it was very hard to get around the screen.
Same boat. I lost my Tilt 2 weeks ago and needed a new phone. I only paid 350 because I was due for a new contract.
I like the Fuze but there are a few items I liked on my Tilt.
1. I miss all the buttons. I am slowly getting used to TouchFlo but I REALLY used Start menu, cammera and Email buttons a lot.
2. I keep trying to Tilt my Fuze I guess I miss that too.
3. Biggest one for me - The Fuze REALLY does attract finger prints. I have to keep a silk cloth with me at all times.
4. Having problems with tethering. I think I have it resolved though.
5. Windows Live doesn't seem to work very well and I use it for hotmail.
Now- Things that I like-
1. Form factor is great!
2. VGA screen is great.
3. Software that comes bundled is pretty decent.
4. Flush screen does make touch more usefull
5. BIGGEST item for me is you can now add device as mass storage and copy files (mp3s) over quickly without using active synch.
6. The FM radio (once enabled) is pretty cool. Pretty good quality.
In my opinion it is a great phone, I like it more every day. I will admit the first few hours I wish I had purchased another Tilt. Slowly, I am convinced I made the right decision to upgrade.
From a dev/hardware point of view:
the Good:
a high dpi, true transflective screen (instead of Kaiser's crappy transmissive) that puts it on par with my Sony VAIO x-brite screen
auto-backlight so you don't have to walk outside and then fumble around a washed out screen to find the brightness controls
backlight nicely fades in and out
working OpenGL-ES drivers that survives suspend
flush screen that makes touch-interface easier to use
higher feedback into the earpiece during phone calls so you can hear how loud you're speaking
storage-mode usb (and it's usb 2.0 high-speed too instead of the fake usb 2.0 full-speed of Kaiser) with menu selection much like SonyEricsson z750
volume setting button that works more smoothly
much nicer (iPhone-like) phone UI
magnetic stylus holder so it's harder to fling/lose it
the Bad:
missing a lot of useful controls such as camera, scroll-wheel, windows key
smart-touch (circle scrolling) doesn't work with most apps, nor even the OS menus so gimmicky
smart-touch zooming with Opera is pretty bad because zoom resolves too slowly
auto-rotation of screen by accelerometer gimmicky and can't be disabled esp if you want to read while lying down
Java (jbed) still BROKEN (since the WM6.1 update) where it gets confused if it's the active app or not and you have to bounce between Today and Java before java starts responding to touch/buttons again
D3D is still shipped with illegal and broken test-rig driver. Have to apply d3d_ati.dll patch to get it decently working (affects Opera since it uses DirectDraw).
still ships with .NETCF 2.0. Have to update to 3.5 and apply .net configurator before Schap's Advanced Config 3.3 will work.
HSDPA forced off. Need a new variation of KaiserSimFix to fix it so it survives soft-reset.
keyboard is a bit cramped compared to Kaiser, but you got a lot more fn-less keys
auto-backlight doesn't range down to the lowest backlight level so too bright in a dark room
GPS is broken is some way (without fiddling with TeleNav) so that AGPS just causes multiple gps-disconnects, and agps-less locks take something like 2-3 minutes longer than Kaiser
finger-print magnet
eats a lot more ram (90M+B resident instead of Kaiser's 40MB+)
24 resident apps running all the time and very close to the 32 limit of wince
This is basically the "Kaiser" that should've been released last year instead of that huge foobar the Kaiser is.
I will have mine within a few hours. It got delivered to my door at noon and I am excited to see what it has in store..... I will also try and comment on the two.
I'm not sold yet. I got the Fuze on Monday, I agree with you and espically the fingerpring magnet. WEW... I'm now playing around with my Tilt and trying to decide. I have so many acces. for my Tilt. And I don't see that much of a difference between the 2 of them as far as programs. I love the build of the Tilt, far better then the Fuze, and I still have 8 months on my warranty for the Tilt, Just got in July. And using TF2 it's pretty much the same. Well decide.
For me, I had a custom rom on the Tilt w/ TF2D and I have a custom rom on the Fuze w/ TF3D. The Fuze is much smoother interface, faster, the eye candy is amusing, programs launch faster.
Also, contrary to what I've been reading, my GPS locks on extremely fast with Google Maps but will not work at all with Live Search. In GM it locks in in under 5 seconds, on like 9 satellites.
Oh yea, and my Tilt broke but I was eligible for an upgrade so I bought another one on 10/17, and returned it within my 30 days and paid the $50 difference to get the Fuze.
My GPS seems to lock pretty quick as well with google maps but have not tried live. I just recently ordered a Zagg invisible shield which should solve the fingerprint issue. But overall it's seems faster then my tilt all around and am pretty happy I switched although I paid full price since I wasted my upgrade on an iPhone.
I got my Fuze for $300, and sold my Tilt for $250, so it was a no brainer. So far, I have many more pros than cons. The screen resolution alone was worth the upgrade.
Speed and response seem about the same as my tilt (I had a hyperdragon rom w/manilla)
Touchflo 3D is pretty spiffy, but not that much better than manilla 2d on the tilt. I like that the Fuze is smaller, and feels much more sturdy, also the screen is flush so no more trapped dirt around the screen edges. Everyone cries about the fingerprints, but you can easily wipe the phone off, its not that big of deal.
I'm still getting used to the new keyboard, but I do like it better.
The fact that there are less buttons on the Fuze is a bummer, but not a deal breaker. I do actually miss the screen tilt, and the solid back plate. If your typing on the keyboard while the phone is laying on a table it tends to rock back and forth.
I had no problems using the GPS with Live search. The fact that there is a ton of ATT crapware on the phone can be fixed with a ROM flash later on.
The G-sensor is fun to play with, but so far really not very usefull.
I haven't tried much testing yet, but so far video playback seems much better.
Overall I would say I'm happy I got the Fuze, and I don't miss my Tilt.

I've tried that patch and I see no diference in Opera/OS landscape mode. Same poor redraw (videos).
Just got my fuze... Looks great, except I miss the "tilt" and scroll wheel of the tilt. But the advantages of the fuze are too great and many (Besides, may still get the Omnia with the vga screen from Korea.). PLUS, after only 1 years worth of use, the fake chrome on the buttons is wearing off. Or else I'd get a new tilt for my daughter-- she loves the tilting screen, and doesn't care about the "extras".
So after a full day of use I would agree that the Fuze is a better phone. I still have the crappy AT&T bloatware on it still, but like the performance over the tilt. The graphics are superior, and has more opportunity than the tilt. My only issues(that will take time to get used to):
-navigation buttons
-volume up/down on the side. When you try to increase it, it tries to slide the keyboard open.
-Fingerprint magnet, but just wipe it off on my shirt.
Other than those small issues, this phone is far superior in my mind and is worth the upgrade.

I strongly suggest the upgrade.. It's better to get used to the Fuze before other similar HTC Phones come out. (YES, THERE IS LEARNING CURVE.. I've owned my Fuze for 3 days now and I'm so glad i got rid of it)
I'm not sure about you, but the biggest factor that killed it for me on the Tilt was it's vga video card
The Fuze's VGA is Excellent.. It's like it has a mini HD 2400 XT video card in it.. It's very crisp and something I did not expect. Touch Flo is awesome, better than an IPhone 3G's touch screen. Get it as soon as possible
Come on, the Fuze touchscreen or any other is not better than the iphone. I've tried my share of touchscreens. Apple has that nailed. That being said I think the Fuze is a nice upgrade over the Tilt.
The screen is nice but so far I'm not wow-ed enough by it to convince me to keep the Fuze over the Tilt.
I miss the easier to use slideout keyboard of the Tilt. The Fuze buttons are smaller and placed strangely...why put the FN immediately to the left of the A? Stupid.
No soft keys. No camera key. Had to remap the Home button to NOT go to the today screen but instead do Windows Start. Hated the bloatware. Hate TouchFlo. Immediately removed all that crap to make the Fuze more useable. Don't like Opera and with the AT&T customizations, it defaults to Opera over PIE...yuck.

Totally agree, I've had the Iphone and my Partner has the 3G Iphone, can't touch the Touch Screen on the Iphone, shame it's more for fun then work. LOL

I don't miss my iPhone touchscreen at all. The multi-touch functionality of the iPhone screen was nice but the only thing I ever used it for was zooming in and out of webpages and the scrollwheel of the Fuze is a nice replacement for that functionality.
And I'm frequently using my phone outside in cold weather so being able to use the touchscreen with gloves on and/or use a stylus makes the Fuze screen superior IMO. Plus, with the Fuze I can edit the registry to adjsut the touch sensitivity and I don't think you can do that with the iPhone.

Totally agree. I've had mine since Monday, and have finally decided just not good enough over the Tilt, espically as I have 8 months left on the warranty and all the asscs I have brought for it.. I've gotten to really enjoy TF2 and I feel the Fuze is not as fast as the Tilt. Just my opion. There's a phone and mine is the Tilt. After all the sleep I lost over the Fuze and now I'm taking it back. LOL well unless someone wants it for 300.00.

Yikes, sounds like someone needs an old Palm device J/k, to each their own.
I have had the Fuze for a half day and want to put it through it's 30 days before deciding but so far I love it. Can't really judge battery life cause it hasn't left my had for about 5 hours and is down to 30% but in a normal day my Tilt never saw that usage either so we'll see.

So, I got my Fuze about 5 in the evening, and after a few hours of playing with it I have some thoughts.
First off, the design and UI are slick as can be. It takes decent pictures (provided you have enough light, as a Cell Phone camera it's still a pathetic shell of what a real camera is, but what can you expect?) and on most operations it's fairly fast.
I dislike the glossy back rather intensely. 3 seconds after it came out of the box it was its own Fingerprint Convention. When will we ever get MATTE black?
I like the functionality of the GPS, but I think the $10 a month fee for it is ridiculous. For the price of this thing there shouldn't be a nickel of charge for it, as not one of my standalone GPS's has any fee at all. I am tempted to not keep the phone off this one fact. Is it possible to get around that with an alternative software package?
I for some reason feel like it should be a bit faster, given that I'm coming off a Wizard with a WM6 ROM, this doesn't feel *that* much faster even though it's nearly triple the CPU speed and what, like 8 times the memory?
I couldn't find a proper screen protector, but that's OK, Wal Mart had a decent pack of customizable ones for like $6, and with a little trimming they fit perfectly.
I like the click wheel roundy-round thing. Hate the lack of a proper headphone port sans the dongle, though to be fair the dongle is pretty cool.
Oh, here's a nugget: not many of the programs auto rotate when you tilt the thing, which makes the tilt bit seem...kinda moot. Is there a way to tweak it?
Once the ROMs start flowing I am sure this will be a far better device. I do like it so far, though I think I've been spoiled by XDA ROM's on my Wizard, because MAN stock software sucks compared to what some of the gods around here pull off

for gps download google maps or live search they are free
use gyrator 2 that will turn the screen in every program
and as for speed just use a cooked rom to get rid of bloatware
You can buy TomTom or Garmin software also and with the there is no fee other than the purchase cost.
for roms there are already loads for the fuze. check out the romz forum.
as for screen protectors you get one with the phone. it is in by the cd's in the box.

Thanks guys. Yeah I found the damn screen protector after buying the others, LOL. That's OK, I think the one I bought and had to trim up is a little nicer anyway so it's all good news.

I just got mine today. As others mentioned, the GPS is not "locked". You can install other programs. I prefer TomTom, but others go absolutely crazy over IGO or whatever it is...
My thoughts:
Pros
1) For some reason, VPN actually works now. For some reason, I could never get it to work with my Tilt... no matter what ROM I used. I can actually RDP into my work servers now.
2) Amazing screen resolution. RDP is actually usable now!
3) Magnetic stylus holder. When you're using the phone a lot, and don't want to hassle w/putting away the stylus every time, it's quicker just to "stick" it to the side. Also wakes the device up when you remove it. Snazzy.
4) Accelerometer. Though it doesn't seem near as responsive as the one on my fiancee's iPhone, it is still good to have it there. Hopefully its functionality improves with software...

I'm not sure if something is wrong with the "right" area of my d-pad, but it kept registering a click in the middle and bringing me back to the home screen. It's going to be nice to use the wheel around it once that functionality starts getting built into ROMs
4) No physical camera or "Start" buttons. I can't believe how much I depended on those two with the Tilt.
AT&T Gripes:
- Bloatware
- No more "H" icon. I realize most of the zombies outside of this site don't know what "H" is, but I miss being able to tell if I'm in an HSDPA area or not.
- Bloatware
- No TV out cable included
- No clip/holster, bag, sleeve, nothing...

I think you're actually supposed to press OUTSIDE of the ring for the "D" pad. Seems to work pretty well when you do.

just flash a rom for speed mine works find with romeos and tf3d is much nicer then t2 so its gota take up more power

I pretty much agree with everything already said. THe glossy is nice when you're showing it off, but totally not practical - one more way the iPhone has eff'd it for everybody.
When I played with it the store (fresh out of the box, not a display model), I almost didn't buy it because it seemed so slow. The guy behind the counter claimed it was the dummy sim card so we put the sim from my 8525 in it and it snapped up a bit. Then we put a fresh sim card in it and seemed even quicker. Not lightning fast, but not sluggish in any way. I also realized that I had to used it differently. On my 8525 I always used my fingernail on the screen. With the Fuze, my fingernail does nothing. Even the stylus is bit of a waste. I guess I need to adjust the biosensing business...
I also heartily agree that ATT cheaped out on the accessories. A $5 protective sleeve would not have broken the bank. The headset adapter is a joke. I've got slimmer ones off ebay for $1.00 that work great. Bloatware and trial software sucks.
All-in-all, though I'm happy with it and considering the alternatives (although the BB Bold did come with a nice leather case!) I made a great choice. Though, I might have waited for the Xperia if my 8525 wasn't on it last legs...
I forgot another major gripe, and that is that the slider is reversed from the Tilt, which consequently moves the d-pad on the other side of the screen. I was quite used to the layout on the Tilt. This seems to screw me up more than the totally changed keyboard layout, which is unnecessarily "busy", IMHO...
Luckily, this will just take some getting used to. I'm also using the directional arrows on the keyboard more.

I realize that. I'm starting to think this is a glitch. It only seems to happen in this particular situation. Try this:
- Open the Start menu
- Press the d-Pad "up" three times to get to "Settings"
- Press the d-pad "up" once to select the bottom tabs
- Press the d-pad "right" twice to get to "Connections"
It takes me several attempts to get to "Connections" w/o popping myself back to the Home screen. I'm very clearly not hitting the center button.

Yes, you are right. I'm having the same problems with the left button as well. Up and down work fine for me, though....

Maybe you have a defective unit? I went through those steps without any problem at all. I did it a few times just to make sure.
Also, you don't have an H icon? I get an HSDPA most of the time (including now) and I always see the H icon.
I don't want to be a hater, I've been waiting for the Fuze for months, but if my 8525 had just a little more RAM, I'd stay with that. I'm starting to realize what a great phone that was. You can just feel the difference in quality between the 8525 and the Fuze. You really notice it when you slide open the keyboard, the 8525 'snaps' into place, and the Fuze feels like it's going to slide right off it's tracks! Not only that, you can feel a little slop when it's open.
I miss the extra buttons too, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
Do we really need 5 rows in the keyboard? I don't remember anybody complaining about the 4 rows anywhere. I'd rather have the 4 rows with larger buttons. I have very fat fingers!
The following could be my particular phone...I'm getting a replacement tomorrow to test:
My reception is much worse. Can barely get 3G in an area where my 8525 had no problem at all.
When my phone rings or requests data, it's creates interference with all my surrounding electronics and even it's own speaker. I get a humming sound when I turn the phone on speaker. 8525 never did that. I thought only nextel/sprint phones did that!
8525 sounds much better (and louder) when I played music through it's speaker.
Obviously, the phone has many good features, and hopefully, some of the issues I'm having is just a 'bad' phone. But, the camera is amazing and touch flo runs smooth and fast. And I don't have to reset the phone every 2 hours like I did the 8525

Accelerometer: You can download the Advanced Configuration Tool (requires Microsoft .Net CF 3.5 - .msi available via Msft, cab available via PPCGeeks here. In that, you can actually change the poll time. I've had ACT installed for a while, but just found this option last night. Reduced poll time to 25 ms and it's faster than my friend's ipod touch! Also, you can download programs such as Gyrator 2 or Gsen or changeScreen (i'm trying this now, seems to work! thread for changeScreen. These programs let you rotate in all programs or customized programs.
As for the H, you can use Advanced configuration tool too to change this (under data connection, enable EDGE and HSDPA icons).
And for the TV out cable, if you bought a fuze, it came with a big box of outputs, etc you plug into the usb of your TP. You can use a 3.5 mm to RCA converter cable. check this thread.

The reviews on the Fuze are pretty good. And despite the fact that I loathe the side sliders, this one might make a believer out of me. Are any of you experienced 750 users who have had any length of time with the Fuze? If so can you give us some pros and cons in comparison with the 750? Thanks

Yea, I've been using a Treo 750 for over two years and loved it but as you know, it is under powered by now day standards. The Fuze was a big step and really was going to buy the Epix for the keyboard but took the jump to the fuze. Not happy with it till I flashed the ROM and updated to NET 3.5. Now getting really good with the small keyboard I must say it rocks. I used SPB Shell with SPB Diary for keeping up with life so waiting on that void to be filled yet and it will as this phone is getting the attention. Nice phone

I just upgraded to the Fuze. Also flashed a few ROMs almost right away and the ATT ROM is slow and has problems (no HSDPA active only 3G) so the flash is pretty much a mandatory step. I am still adjusting to the Fuze. I like the TouchFlo interface, sometimes, but then at other times, I've found it difficult to quickly get to where I want. I've noticed that it's harder to make calls from the car due to not having the keyboard on the front and not being able to go to search for a name to call directly from TouchFlo. Similar problem with the e-mail Inbox. Although TouchFlo gives me a preview of e-mails, to get to my inbox is an extra step and I'm still adjusting. There is a new ROM that does not include TouchFlo by default so I might try that. Also, some ROMs have been cooked with software called "SecondToday" which allows to flip from TouchFlo to a 3rd Party Today screen. I've also found the short length of the stylus to be a little bit annoying - the length of the one on the Treo was just right for me . . .
The phone has a lot more RAM and the display is nice. I wish the display was larger and despite the faster CPU, it doesn't feel as fast as I'd expected. I will keep using it for at least a couple more weeks before deciding if its worth the upgrade. I've also considered the EPIX and I guess that would be my fallback since it has more RAM, better CPU and better display than the 750 in a comparable format.
I haven't tried streaming video yet although I imagine it would be much better on the Fuze. Also, some nice software available on the Fuze that helps.

Mine's going back to the store.
I don't like the keyboard, its just too small for a slideout keyboard. The buttons are poorly located and just not intuitive.
The screen is nice but feels small due to the resolution.
The lack of programmable buttons is a big minus.
And the TouchFlo is next to useless.
I have been pretty satisfied with my Hermes (had it just about 2 years now!)
I am wondering for those that also came from that device or from a Kaiser, how do you like the Touch Pro in comparison? I'm eligible for an upgrade but don't know if this is the phone to get or not....i thought it was, but have been reading some less than great threads so i just wanted some comments from people who went through a comparable situation. Thanks!
it was the best move i ever made, only thing is the bat life could be better.
After the tweaks, pretty happy.
Only issue(s) I have remaining are:
Voice Command/Bluetooth...If incoming announcements are on, the phone
sort of rings once, sort of announces, but when you answer, the other party
can hear you, but you cannot hear them, you have to switch the call to the
phone, power off the headset, and power it back on.
GPS slow. GPS is a little quirky at times. Once in a while it fails to lock, but
if you run the HTC test tool for the GPS, it fires right up.
Battery isn't an issue for me, I'm one of those if it is below 2 bars, it goes
on the charger, and, sometimes I use a remote control program because I have
a friend that would rather text than talk on the phone, so it is easier than using the keyboard or stylus to send SMS.
Touchflo3D could use a little tweaking, which has been done, and looks like it is getting better and better.
I don't "play games/videos/MP3s" on my phone, so I can't help you on that
part, but the screen is improved, keyboard is improved, camera is MUCH
faster.
About the only thing I miss is the tilt for the screen.
I would say the main thing to keep in mind is the TouchPro isn't really an upgrade to the Hermes or Kaiser. Its a whole new style of phone that takes some getting used to. The main similarity is of course the keyboard. The biggest change is the lack of hardware buttons. Gone are the softkeys, you now have to touch the screen. Gone is the messaging & IE buttons. The worst part is the messaging button, you now cannot just keep clicking this button to scroll through all your email/sms/mms accounts. There is no longer a dedicated start menu button, you have to touch the screen to launch the start menu. Its been replaced with a "home" button, which to me is useless. As on the old phones I could hit start 2x and go home. Gone is the scroll wheel on the side. Its been replaced with 2 volume buttons, which I never use because I keep my phone on maximum volume. There is no dedicated camera button. There is no dedicated Comm Manager button.
So personally I hate to see the iPhone trend influencing HTC phone designs. I like buttons and need buttons. This phone takes some getting used to. It is a good phone still, but could be so much better with more buttons.

I agree. I think the VGA screen brings a real revolution to mobile devices. It's just superior in so many ways to the old displays that I definitely never ever want a device without VGA again.
The biggest minus for me is the faulty GPS implementation. But I still hope that it's not a hardware issue and that it can an will be fixed by some xda-dev sooner or later.

That's true! The home button is extremely useless and I also miss the extra buttons very much. In the first days/weeks it felt like a step backwards to me because where in the past I just had to push an hardware button I now had to push a software butten in best case or even had to navigate somewhere before I could push some softbutton.
But I got used to it and managed to reconfigure the device so that all important functions are now just one (soft)-click away.
i love the device, but i miss the tilt screen... :
and i wish there were more buttons to assign to my own preferences (yes i know there are tools, but it's not as good as with the 'real' buttons...)
i love that the flat screen - you can touch things in the edges very easy now
all in all - i don't regret the upgrade

Da_G is working on such a fix right now. He's using ported GPS drivers from the Blackstone, and it appears to make quite a difference.

After a couple of weeks (and of course a cooked ROM) I have to admit I am really happy I upgraded. As others stated the screen resolution is great. Performance seems to be better as well. I still have some gripes ( fingerprint magnet, small keyboard) but I think overall the improvements outweigh the issues. My advise would be to go for it but also make sure you give it time before you judge. If I had to make a return decision in 24 hours I most likely would have returned it for the Tilt. A week or two later and you would have to pry my Fuze out of my cold dead hands!
I want the raphael hardware in a kaiser body.

DeepThought: currently testing out the ported blackstone drivers in my ROM. I'd make cabs but unfortunately windows mobile is paranoid so wont load them They have to be cooked into a ROM for the moment. I'm in the process of uploading the OEM/SYS/ROM from my latest build so chefs can see the changes I made and yoink it if it works.. 40 minutes left on that upload!
I consider it the best phone I've owned if you require a keyboard.
It feels better in the hand than the Kaiser did. I love the flush screen so you can touch edges easily (I missed that after having the Vogue on Sprint). The VGA screen is great.
I don't really miss the hardware buttons. I used a Vogue and it had less buttons than the TP has. On the Kaiser, I didn't really use them anyway. I just use the programs tab in TF3D. I replaced the shortcuts or the PTT button (on the ATT Fuze), so now a short press launches the Comm Manager (to turn on WiFi) and a long press launches the camera.
I haven't really had any GPS issues. It doesn't get a fix indoors usually, where my Kaiser did. It takes a little longer to get a fix outside, and depending on the app I'm using I might have to use the HTC GPS Tool first. I don't have much lag.
I don't really need a hardware keyboard...its nice to have, but I don't do much typing on it and I find myself using the soft keyboard more rather than pulling out the other one. Since the Touch HD (Blackstone) looks thinner, if ATT ever got that phone, I think that might be the ultimate for me since I would rather have a thin device rather than a hardware keyboard.
Not that these things haven't been brought up already but this is my opinion. First off I am happy to have upgraded to the Raphael from the Kaiser. Things that lived up to or exceeded my expectations are the screen, capacitive touch lower region, and TF3D to name a few. The things that need to be worked out are battery life and gps. To a great extent, Lumos and Touchlock Pro have extended my battery life tremendously, but it is still not on par with my Tilt. My major gripe is GPS. I drove around for over an hour with the phone on my lap in clear skies and never locked onto satellites. That is horrible. I am very eager to see what Da_G is cooking up on this front. MY MAJOR GRIPE is fit and finish related. The battery cover for my Fuze is loose and I do not care for the shiny multi-angled design. I am going to buy the regular Touch Pro cover as soon as someone puts up a picture that matches the description. I had the Tilt for over a year and it had excellent design and build. I think they should have carried that over to the Fuze.

Loving my Fuze, I upgraded from the Tilt. Only concern is the repeatedly mentioned GPS issue which I'm glad to hear that Da_G is working on.
Seems like most everyone is happier with the TP, even if there are still a few things to be desired...i know i too will miss some of the buttons, but that screen does sound delicious
I would bet that all the kinks will get knocked out entirely by early next year and it'll be running like a whole new phone
AT&T Tilt -> HTC Fuze
Best switch ever!! I love everything about the fuze except that its' enter button is too big and it's del button is a bit small =/ I got used to it though.
After proudly using most of the AT&T/Cingular/AT&T HTC devices (Wallaby->Blue Angel->Wizard->Hermes->Kaiser->Raphael), this has been the most exciting upgrade.
The VGA screen is an amazing change. I miss some of the hardware buttons, but the flat touch screen is helping the TouchFlo interface wean me off of the buttons. I also do not miss the tilting screen as much as I thought I would. I do miss not having the scroll wheel on the side, but I am getting used to touch ring.
Performance on the stock ROM was disappointing. I was planning on running the stock ROM for a while before loading a cooked ROM, but after one day, I could not take it anymore. I am now running NATF's 2.2 ROM, and I could not be happier.
So far, I have inspired three upgrades from the Tilt to the Fuze among co-workers.

WOW! I cant't beleive what I read here. Touch pro is slow? People not happy? I mean I was gonna upgrade my Kaiser to Touch Pro, but after reading this I'm asking myself should I go for something else? Is there such a device out there that people would be generally happy with? Or maybe most of the issues can be fixed by upgrading to a custom ROM? Your advice will be appreciated guys
I'm extremely happy with my Fuze; so much so that I just bought another one. I didn't keep the stock ROM for more than an hour though, so I don't know what it's like out of the box.

Glad to hear that. Although not sure if I can afford two of them - will be happy with just one. They're quite expencive here in the UK...
I have a Tilt that I just keep as a backup phone (or if I'm going fishing or something and don't want to risk damaging my Fuze).
With a custom ROM and radio the Fuze is great for me. The stock radio sucks (atleast for me), and the stock ROM sucked. If you don't want to flash different custom ROMs, atleast flash the leaked AT&T ROM Update. Even with the bloat, that ROM is great. It has one of the best radios out there, it fixes aGPS, it is really fast compared to the stock ROM.
The main complaints I see are GPS lag (which I have, but its not unusable), the lack of hardware keys (which I can live with), and no tilt (which is a hardware limitation).
The fixed aGPS makes getting a fix extremely fast. I've used the GPS on multiple 5 hour + trips and its worked just fine.
I like the DPad on the Tilt better. With this one the up/down works but the left/right sometimes doesn't. Like pressing left will take me home instead.

You know what - I fully agree with you. I like Kaiser's D-pad better + more buttons. I just wish it had the VGA screen and TF3D - it would be perfect then...
If you get this phone you have to flash a new ROM. In fact, 6.5 is working extremely well.
The GPS just sucks. I have not tried it recently with AGPS however.
The DPad might be one of the worst in existence. There are not many Dpads where you try to hit left and it does something else.
Other than that, I love this phone. It is leagues above my old Excalibur.
i'm very happy with my phone. girlfriend doesnt like it cuz im always on it . anyways, i have the leaked att roma nd radio and it's amazingly fast, so much fun to use and just works. gps is fixed, it's quick. i have spb mobile shell 3 trial on it right now. seeing how that works but the UI on it is amaizng minus a problem switching from portrait to landscape but thats not just on teh tp. i lvoe the phone though i'd definitely upgrade. screen is amazing, phone is sexy (go to zagg.com and buy an invisible shield if u do get it though) and it's just so much fun to use.
I recently had to revert back to my tilt from my fuze after breaking it (it's fixed now) and I have mixed feelings. They're both great phones in certain ways. The form factor of the tilt is the best ever for me. It is a pleasure to use for internet browsing with the keyboard slid out, screen tilted up, right fore finger on the scroll wheel and left thumb on the d-pad when needed. The fuze is more compact, faster/snappier, and the touchscreen is way better when dialing phone numbers (could be fixed with software...). I think the deciding factor for me is the vga screen. If the tilt had it, I'd prefer that phone, as I often view web pages zoomed out and just hold the phone closer to my face to read the small text. Not possible on the tilt's qvga screen. Really, I want to take them both apart and put together a phone with the best of both. I'm sad HTC seems to always dance around making the perfect phone.

Well, the touch pro 2 is pretty much combining them together, maybe with some iphoneish features thrown in as well.
My Kaiser is on it's way out, keys aren't working, I have to reset all the time, rom changes make no difference, so I don't have time to wait for the Touch Pro 2. I am going to upgrade to a Fuze and hope it will work well for me.
let's wait and see...you know they always say that no one will ever release the perfect phone because then there will be nothing to build off of...maybe i'm wrong.

The touch pro 2 with a trackball at the bottom like blackberries have would be close to the perfect phone. But only with a snappier OS, faster processor, GPS that works right, and better battery life. Not saying it won't have these things (except the trackball and faster processor which it won't) but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
Out of the box the fuze is pretty sluggish. The GPS did work but, took forever to get a lock. I used mine for a day on the stock rom and I couldnt take it anymore. So I switched to Natfs rom and it was like night and day. Its so much smoother and much faster. GPS works as it should. I believe that was due to the upgraded radio. Give it a try. Youll see. BTW this is my first post. Hi to everyone...
Used Stock ROM for like 6 hours just to see it and say that I ddi and was pissed by how sluggis it was. I got 3 error messages and report this that and the other to MS. I wint to RE WM 6.1 and Radio happened 2 days after; using 1.12.25.19. It lives up to all my expectations and more of being my dream phone.
even though touch pro always hang and got a bit lag but i still love it.
button less then kaiser but the touch sensor got a lot function can play with.
I'm a tilt user currently and looking to upgrade my phone with AT&T. Can someone give me the pros and cons of owning the Fuze? Is it as versatile as the Tilt? What about connectivity, ease of browsing, GPS etc. I like tinkering with my Tilt using Visual Studio.NET. Would I be able to keep doing that with the Fuze?
Any response would be appreciated.

My Tilit was replaced (by insurance) with a Fuze a couple moths ago - the Tilt had developed radio issues. I have been very happy with the Fuze. Other than the lack of hardware keys (which is fairly easy to get used to), my Fuze does everything that the Tilt did, and does most things better. The display is amazing, the flat face really makes it easy to use without a stylus (you can touch the corners of the screen easier). Once I switched to the radio in my sig, I haven't had any GPS issues, other than a SLIGHT lag as compared to my old Tilt. GPS fixes (aGPS) usually take less than 10 seconds, and are just as accurate as they were on the Tilt.
All things considered, I am very happy with my Fuze. Given the choice between a Fuze or a Tilt, after having used both, I would definitely choose the Fuze.

All in All, very pleased with the phone, The battery life is really satisfactory for me - i get a full day of above average use out of the phone, never feel like the battery is too weak for the phone.
I LOVE the accelerometer, gives the phone a Lot more functionality (programs and games)
But AT&T REALLY pissed me off about the keyboard. Instead of control+v or control+c etc shortcuts, they give you an "ok" button! Seriously, and what about the tab key, they replace it with a "caps" key.
Those flaws are enough to make me consider buying a damn unlocked Touch Pro and enjoying it.
I love this phone though, I have to say, this is the first phone that has everything i need and more. I plan on using this phone for years and simply updating the OS every once in a while. (though right now stilling with AT&T firmware until i get everything ironed out like preferred applications and such

If you do buy the phone, make sure to update to the latest leaked rom from AT&T - it will fix some performance issues, and GPS issues. I also noticed the camera speed is quite improved

I agree with a lot of this post... Had a tilt for a little over 2 years, and loved it, had a 8125 and an 8525 before those... Missing the hardware keys took some getting used to, but since then, I'm doing great. Bought an international touch pro, and ended up swapping it for a fuze to get the HSDPA speed back... I plan on swapping the keyboard to get rid of the annoying one that AT&T replaced it with, but other then that I think most Tilt users would enjoy the upgrade...

how hard was it swapping out the keyboard?
Have to agree on the Fuze keyboard: someone was smoking a LOT of crack that day. The lack of a proper D-pad is annoying, and stuffing VGA into the same 2.8" of screen space keeps that resolution from being nearly as useful as it might have been, but the picture is outstanding. Battery life will be a surprise for you as a tilt user and as much as you think you won't miss the tilting screen, you will. Also, the keys on the Fuze keyboard are smaller than the Tilt, so that takes some adjustment.
I have both a Fuze and a Tilt: the Fuze is the better overall device, but the Tilt is the best "bang for your buck" that can be had.

got my fuze in feb., with the tilt i flashed almost as soon as i got it. Im still holding out with the fuze. I like it that much. The slight lag, also found on the tilt is remedied for me by one soft reset a day. I also geocache with both phones (wifey now has the tilt), and gps is a little slower on fuze to appear (10sec) but after that it works great. I think ive missed the tilt feature exactly once with sunlight in the car shining on the screen. But the flat flush screen is SO MUCH better youll look at your tilt like a dinosaur one week after you get your fuze.

Yeah you should. I find it to be superior to the Tilt in almost every way, minus the lack of a few buttons and the slight GPS lag. It has a great screen and let me make this very clear...much better than the Tilt. I had a Tilt and upgraded to the Fuze...I actually went "Wow..." when I saw the screen. The flat surface makes it infinitely easier to work the touch screen with your fingers instead of having to use buttons. I'd pick one up.
