Hi everyone
I just wanted to know if someone has tried a prepaid sim on the mda and used the internet through EDGE. For some reason i get free internet and I just have $10 on my account with no charge to it. post if you get the same result.
Update: Was told about this Free WAP on T-Mobile!
But they talk about having free wap but its actually free gprs so you can use PIE, Opera for ppc,
Win media and listen to streams or anything that can use gprs (edge)
and also you can use modem link or internet sharing for your PC
Update 2: This will only work for US T-Mobile because of the updating to 3G of the network. So it may work for a limited time. < Refining EDGE
Update 3: Can also work on contract sim cards but i advise to use at own risk tmobile my start to charge you and it can get expensive if you do not have a data plan. I have been told that sometimes this may not work But will work on prepaid sim cards
Update 4: this will work on any phone but you need to have a different web browser like opera mini. It may also stop working but will work again if you disconnect and connect again right then or in a different time.
Settings to use: Cellular line (GPRS) and wap.voicestream.com

By the way update news flash t mobile is not hearing any of this i fact that stock is all that matters rember business thats what comes first i'm for you believe me pure respect but you would think i just got here.

Plug this today if you are complianing this is a capped plan now what ever you do it doesn't matter. the compute will bill for what you have
Move this to the front so i don't have to deal with the hype
fact free net never went down
means no man down if no mms was being used or dialed in.
Fact i still cant get out on some phones i am cingular so t-mobile takes a bit longer for me
Plane straight t-zones $5.99 no mms cabs t-zones
216.155.165.50:8080 done
Plan t-zones online only catch 22 must change phone to a non pda.
I am OK with this move for one reason. the minute you make a call the system will flip your phone status back to the beautiful stock photo of what ever you have
If you don't understand me well guess what i don't look up when i type i do look up when i sign paychecks so just ask your friend moderator and this goes right into th45 move chart. 7 years and still cant typo as fast as i think
My theory is this i still am having problems with outh the cabs like im handi cap so that mens that the mms plays a role when you dial it in dont ask some else figure it out because our cabs work but i always change to 8080
the same source and my coaching argues with me on this stupid subject.
everyone here that has a opinion should also take into consideration that mathematics and reason does not make the world go round in the us its money homes and cars we will leave that discussion for one of my 100 seminars i power train at.
But 3g is already their but cingular never owned or should i say lease the heavier sites up top they bought the newbie national package. So the reason t mobile is not as deep is because cingular most likely resigned a separate deal that would not be part of a locked contract. So t mobile has to buy it on thier own.
But 3g only works in certain areas like blocks but when t hooks up it shakes financially t-mobile will wait until the market moves an inch the hype is not 3g for the 97 percent of the world only the fans. You will see more picture and video before speed is a priority.
hence the reason 2000 laptops are a nickel now. i see a ten quad coming why some body shooting the titanic nope i guarantee you some asshole in chicago saw that the glutens meaning the us will be picture crazy and share your picture and make your family trip a movie so they are making gaming look like a intermediate sport
good news better for the individual that wants a nuke for hardware cause last time i checked Intel core duo 2 were not $599. wait a month the good stuff will just get cheaper.
T-mobile could give to ****s about anybody back dooring a connection. Half of the reason it limited is to cut down on support the sales guy has no affiliation with the web and has no idea that his company is like the airlines trying to eliminate human error and involvement so thats why all cell phone company's act like mac users when u walk in. Mention the website your done.
You guys 2 ways to go media $9.95 or t-zones flip the phone online to a non pda chief go ahead and tear this up copy paste what ever get to the front so we don't up set the ladies.
I hope today we can 3 issues Dr shaps VOIP your smash and grab t-mobile issue and my feeling of un-appreciation. I like the fact that i am a member its a good thing i love roman history and i take that as a compliment. I thought junior wood chuck suited me.
But what do i know
except xda is not to be disrespected and no matter this is a good place.
ah screw it why should i change my style somebody eklse spell scheck this i need to go to frys and buy the left side make sure we handle this voip that works fine issue.
I like that one

Thanks for telling me
I read somewhere on howardforums about a week or so ago about this. From what I saw posted, this is only temporary because T-Mobile is making some upgrades on their data network.
I guess for the time being it’s just easier for them to open the whole data network to everyone while making whatever changes/upgrades.
My guess would be its some kind of upgrade to the internet access authentication system, and since that authentication system is down during the upgrade, the smoothest way to continue data access for the time being is to just give it to everyone. Just a guess though =P
I think its for there new 3G network. but for now ill enjoy the free service. Hope they dont charge when they finish there upgrade.

What settings are you using? I had it for a while on my unlocked cingular 8525 using t-mobile prepaid but I lost my settings when I hard resetted and everything I have tried so far hasn't worked. BTW do you have it working where u can use WIFI or GPRS without having to change your settings under connections everytime?

No way, they havent even gotton everyone who off the spectrum's yet.
I have a T-mobile prepaid sim and I get free internet. I don't think its edge speed though because it does take a while for the web pages to load. I think its wap speed. If you are getting edge speeds without paying, I guess your lucky. No charge.
it goes faster if you use it on a computer but when using it on the phone it goes slower. i read somewhere that edge has 4 time slots and could go at higher speeds if all 4 time slots are connected but thats in good weather and nothing between the phone and the tower. i think its in wikipedia.com that i read this.
I'm getting it too...wooohooo! Much slower than wireless but it's great to update weather and rss feeds. Thanks to everyone for all the info.

I get it free too!
I just posted this in the networking area ... I too am getting FREE connectivity .. without a prepaid card.
I do not have a data plan, am on a regular family plan, and am located in Salt Lake City, UT. I am also out of contract.
I flashed my MDA to Faria's AKU 3.3 8mb ROM. Set my carrier to "T-Mobile WAP", and voila! I get free access.
I freaked the first time it started up, and was downloading data.. thinking I was going to get a big fat bill.
I called customer service, and long story short, they told me that if I could connect, I was lucky, because it is a fluke, and I would be shortly disconnected thereafter. I was also told that I would NOT be charged.
So ... there you have it. Free (for a limited time) data access on T-Mobile.

I think the representatives dont know about the upgrade until there almost finish upgrading. as i been seeing its been a long time, maybe since 2005 that people have reported this. It makes me think that they are updating all of the network. that will also means that they will be taking out 3g phones and i could finally use my htc tytn on tmobile for internet instead of cingular.

When you visit a hotspot it will has for your phone number which my guess is to verify if you have the iphone plan on your line.
I have DSL from AT&T for my home computer internet. I use the "pro" version of DSL which gives me the Free WIFI access for my laptop and/or cell phone when I'm mobile. I have my cellular service with Verizon Wireless for my XV6800 and can use wifi on that phone free at any AT&T sponsored WIFI hotspot including many MickeyDee's or Startucks, Barnes & Noble, etc., etc. I can use my laptop with WIFI there as well, independently of each other.

I too have the fastest DSL from AT&T and I too get free wifi from AT&T hotspots. I have an iPhone 3G and also a Diamond (waiting for the Touch Pro "AT&T Fuze" to purchase) and I use free wifi even from before the release to iPhone users.
The iPhone and BlackBerry have created a class of know-it-alls who can prove their point about anything, be it geography, history or cooties, thanks to their mobile Internet connections. But the rest of us had refuge: Sometimes, they were out of range of a quick cell network.
how does ATT know that some people have iphones? I've never told them what kind of phone I have.
What if my friend gives me his iphone, how does ATT know that I have one?
I think the IMEI would rat you out or maybe even the contract you own.

Just double checking to see if this was possible on non-iphones...
its possible to change your imei but it is illegal to do so most places, AND if you ever got caught with it you would probably look REALLY suspicious, as in a terrorist
I live in Canada but Rogers has a unlimited web-browsing plan for $7 and ppl have forums on the internet talking about spoofing your phone to look/communicate like another phone (the iphone in this case).
I'll try finding the link.
Ive read about the HTC wifi sharing/tethering cab and will give it a try when I get my HD2..
couple quick questions.
1. How does Tmobile's 3g network compare in speed to evdo rev.a or At&t's 3g.
2. On my Palm Pre I use Mobile hotspot and it works perfect.. except when calls come in it stops.. At&t claim you can use the internet and talk on the phone.. Is this the same for Tmobile.. can i tether and receive calls without interpution? I like to stream talk radio at work to my laptop at work via tethering yet it's really annoying when I lose the connection anytime anyone calls.
THanks for any info.
In theory, the TMo 3G should be the fastest save for maybe Sprint? They just rolled out 7.2mbps HSPA+
And yes, you should be able to talk and have data at the same time, even on Tmobile. As long as you have a 3G/H signal.
thanks, thats great!

Actually, T-Mobile's HSPA+ is clocked at 21mbps. And thats only began to be rolled out across the US.
The T-Mobile US HD2 supports HSPA which is 7.2mbps.
The T-Mobile HD2 is also confirmed to support HSPA+ by T-Mobile

To put it simply: execute the Wifi router app and then connect to the phone like any other wifi hotspot.
Didn't I read in another thread, that TMobile removed the Wifi router app?

tethering tmobile hd2
You can also tether your phone through "Internet Sharing." Here is how.
1. Make sure you have Windows Mobile device center. Open it up and connect your hd2.
2. Go into the Connection Settings in the Mobile Windows Device Center and make sure you have "Allow data connections on device when connected to a PC" checked.
3. Go into Internet sharing on your hd2. It can be found under "Tools".
4. Once you open the Internet sharing application. You should see where it says PC Connections:USB and Network Connection: T-Mobile Data. In the bottom left corner you should see the word "Connect."
5. Make sure you have your data connection turn on and then push the word "Connect" and the hd2 will connect to your laptop. Then you can use your t-mobile hd2 to surf the internet through your laptop.
I have already done this and it works for me. God Bless (John 3:16) and Happy Surfing!!!
In reality ( miami, ft lauderdale area) its kinda of sux.
It shows strong 3g Signal but not anywhere near Verizon 3g or ATT 3g. I am using this to for the Ipad and it seems very slow. On some spots it can produce around 1.3 mbps but mostlys tays around 300k to 700K with full 3g Bar .
Waiting for Sprint EVO to switch. I also have 4 other lines with verizon and their network is way faster.
Can't get the Wi-Fi router to work
I just downloaded the HTC Wi-Fi router and can't seem to get it to work. It says it is running, but my laptop will not find my HD2 as a wireless access point.
Any ideas?
I have the HD2 Tmous
Ok, apparently you have to do a restart to get the application to work after installing. I did that and now my laptop can find the HD2 wi-fi, but it can not get connected. It looks like it is establishing a connection, but then fails.
I am having this problem too. I cannot connect my laptop no matter what. Usb or wireless.
I'm even on the stock ROM just to be sure. I'm on ATT.
Mine is working fine with booth a cooked rom on one phone and also a pure one from tmobile.
I might not be using the same one as the link that was posted here.
I searched for "wifi router by tom gordon", and have been using that one.
maybe google for that one and try it. Ive used it and had 3 devices connected to wifi at once.
good luck.

they finally rolled in the HSPA+ network
here in Tampa
it's comming soon to Miami area

i get 4Mb/s now
make sure you hit ok when it shows the picture of the laptop and phone
or else the app hasn't started yet.
fyi this is faster than the so called "4g" from sprint.
Sprint's 4G is just marketing.
really isn't a true 4G network
or if you're just tethering for yourself and not a group, you can go the slightly slower route but save power by tethering over bluetooth.
Can anyone confirm that this will work with a microcell? I am thinking about picking one up, guy on craigslist has one for cheap. I am basically just looking to enhance my signal in the house, but also adding reliable 911 service in case of an emergency.
Thanks
Yeah, I have a Microcell. Works great with the Inspire.

"AT&T 3G MicroCell acts like a mini cellular tower in your home or small business environment. It connects to AT&T's network via your existing broadband Internet service (such as U-verse, DSL or cable) and is designed to support up to four simultaneous users in a home or small business setting."
http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/why/3gmicrocell/
If you pay a monthly fee (I think $20?) then you get unlimited minutes while on your MicroCell.
if you just want the minutes you use on your MicroCell to be treated as minutes used up anywhere else (ie, come from your monthly or rollover bucket) then there's no monthly fee.
My 2 cents.
My AT&T Microcell works great.
It cost $150 + tax.
No monthly charges.
Microcell voice minutes subtract from you monthly minutes (but who ever uses those up?)
You can pay extra to get unlimited Microcell minutes (useless).
Use Wifi for data.
If your phone doesn't have Wifi get one that does.
If you don't have Wifi, get an access point.
Old non-3G phones don't work with it.
You can configure up to 10 phones to have access, no one else can use it.
My son called and complained about the horrible EDGE reception at our house (no 3G in my area, but a big enough city that there should be). When I got my first phone years ago, reception was great, but once they moved up to EDGE I think they lost the ability to use another companys tower a few hundred meters away; the reception sucked ever since, half the time I don't have a signal at all. He called up and complained; don't know all he said, but the woman actually gave us credit for that months bill (runs around $150) with the understanding that I would purchase a microcell, so it was essentialy free.
Works pretty good; sometimes it has an issue with staying connected, and if you lose the signal and lock on to EDGE, it won't switch back over until you either manualy switch over or you lose the EDGE signal and it connects back to the microcell. Switching back over is a matter of just toggling the airplane mode off then back on. It's not a perfect system, but at least I can make and recieve calls at my house now. I hated having to keep a landline just because my cell signal wouldn't work. AT&T works fine everywhere else for me (I'm a travel nurse, so I'm only home for a few weeks out of the year, though my son lives at my house). I was about ready to switch over to Verizon until they gave me that.
My Inspire sees and connects to my MicroCell much faster than my iPhone 4 ever did.
man...there is one listed around me at 30 bucks. That is cheap! see another at 50 but most seem to be around 100. I'm going to call my buddy tomorrow who never gets signal in his basement and tell him to pick this thing up.
It works fine for me as well. But I get better bandwidth using the local ATT tower on my rooted, H+ enabled device than I do the 3G MicroCell. Using the 4G from the tower (wifi turned off), I get 2MB download and 1.3MB upload. When the MicroCell is turned on, I get 429KB download and 279KB upload speeds. Luckily though, if I'm in range of the MicroCell, I'm also in range of my WiFi. I'd love to hear of ATT will be upgrading the MicroCell to 4G speeds.
I've had Sprint SERO for years. I live in the SF Bay Area, and even though the coverage is bad (it ALWAYS drops calls on the Bay Bridge), and the data is slow in most place, it's only $59 per month (with taxes, etc.). Of course, I've always had the hope that it will get better. Those hopes have now been bolstered by the Softbank deal.
Now that I have a Nexus 5 that can be used on multiple carriers, as a test, I got an AT&T Straight Talk SIM ($45 per month) and have been using that for a few days. It's night and day - calls go through and don't drop, data is fast - it's RELIABLE! Although Straight Talk has gotten (deservedly) bad rap for throttling, recently they changed their policy and published a 2.5 GB limit at which point you get throttled. That's enough for me, and, in the rare case that I go over before the end of the month, I can pay the next month's $45 early and get a new 2.5 GB. And, if ST goes bad, there's always AIO or other AT&T MVNOs.
But, I'm reluctant to switch. If Sprint really does get a good LTE network going and I can use unlimited data to watch Netflix without worry, that would be a nice thing. And, once I cancel the SERO plan, there's no going back.
Of course I've hung on for years because I thought Sprint would get better, and it never has. But, with my luck, the month after I cancel my SERO plan Sprint will improve 1000%.
Any thoughts? I can't be the only person going through this.
(I use Google Voice so the (perhaps) temporary change of carrier is not notice by people that call me, except there is no MMS.)
I just dumped Sprint and paid a $140 ETF. It was worth it friend. I did not have the SERO deal, but I now know what it's like to have real phone service. I switched to a Go Phone plan and could not be happier. Living in NYC and being with sprint was BEYOND painful. Each morning, I would try to listen to NPR on my way to work. It would take forever for the stream to get going on LTE and when we would reach a spot in my commute where it had to hand off to 3g, the stream would just die. I would then have to toggle airplane mode until I finally found a usable signal. So yeah, now that I have Go Phone as my provider, even on 3G I can stream my liberal news to my hearts content. Not to mention, that I have LTE almost everywhere I go with actual LTE speeds. Dump those suckers.

No car radio?
More seriously, how many GB do you have from Gophone - and can you listen to NPR and not burn up all your GB?
Go to s4gru, donate a couple bucks and look at the map for your area.
Maybe read a little and educate yourself on how sprint is improving their network.
After you do that you can make an informed decision based on facts rather then asking for opinions here.

Dump those suckers.

no you can only stream 2.5gb worth assuming you do not use data for anything else.

Go to s4gru, donate a couple bucks and look at the map for your area.
Maybe read a little and educate yourself on how sprint is improving their network.
After you do that you can make an informed decision based on facts rather then asking for opinions here.

This may sound stupid, but what exactly is the different between s4gru map and the one from Sprint? That said, I look at the Sprint LTE map before and the current Sprint LTE signal is weak. There are many area in LA county(not city) that even though it show LTE on the map but I only have 3G. And yes Sprint 3G is suck. That said, I'm looking forward to try the Spark(tri-band LTE), which as far as I'm concern, most of the place I'll be around had good WiMax. So if things goes smoothly(meaning I'll have LTE signal like I used to have when I got WiMax), I will be happy to stay w/ Sprint SERO-P. Then again, this is my experience. My term w/ Sprint isn't up yet anyway. So, I will use it and try Spark when I have Nexus 5 until the term is over then decide.
I am in the same boat, no LTE in my town but I am supposed to have LTE at work in Midtown Manhattan. I get an LTE signal on my N5 with Sprint at work but when I do a speedtest I am getting .25Mbps down and like .01 up. I hear Verizon is no better in Midtown and now that they have publicly admitted it, they are not even a consideration. So that leaves ATT or Tmobile, I will not go with Tmo so that leaves ATT. Went to an ATT store on Park Ave close to my office and ran a speedtest on one of their display LG G2s and only got between 1-2mbps down.
So none of the carriers are good for me now in Midtown, but ATT and Verizon would be good at my house, but I am on wifi at my house so coverage at work is more important. I have been waiting and waiting for Sprint and I know their LTE network is going to be great when it finally gets here, but when will that be? How long can you wait and keep paying them for crap service, it is very frustrating.
I agree that you should do some research on S4gru, but that will only take you so far. Sprint was promising a great network back in the Wimax days and that stuff fell apart. They then promised LTE and I have been having spotty coverage for more than a year. I'm really happy after my switch to Go Phone. No issues here. Also, nowhere near to close on my data allotment. I dont use a car radio because, well, I live in NYC and take public transit.

Maps can only take you so far. For example, the maps show a strong signal (Sprint calls it "Best" voice signal at my house, and calls constantly drop. There are other places on the maps where a strong signal is shown and the calls always drop. The fact that in the entire course of its existence Sprint has not been able to figure out (or hasn't bothered to figure out) how to not drop calls consistently for people driving across the Bay Bridge is amazing. There are places on the map where strong data coverage is shown and the data is so slow as to be unusable.
So, the real thrust of my question was whether Sprint is going to change its spots and have consistent and reliable service, not whether it can show a map which covers a large area but in reality is full of holes.
I'm sure there are a lot of us in this position.
I have this n5 with two SIMs two, AT&T works great just about everywhere I go, Sprint , junk. And now that LTE won't work at all until the 3G/4G towers have been fully completed, more bad news, from bad planning by Sprint.
I like the Google voice integration with Sprint, and my number is not eligible to be ported to Google voice.
It seems that Sprint is always promising a better service is just around the corner. They're doing this again with this 'spark' talk, which really won't do much.
They should their time implementing LTE 1900 Mhz, before they get ahead of themselves and offering LTE 2500 Mhz too, they need to walk before they can run.
I was thinking about using net10's 2 line family plan, over Straight talk, not sure of the different between the two, the same company.
If t-moble had coverage, i'd consider them too.
The S4GRU site will show you the Sprint tower locations, not the coverage.
Edit: One blog post here: http://seth.killey.me/?p=1049
I had sero on sprint and just ditched them for tmobile and could not be happier. I have been hanging on to sero for years waiting for coverage to improve and it has only gotten worse. I finally gave up and have not looked back since.
