I just wish we 6.1 owners can get this update but that's not going to happen.
well greats...for РРС ed. screens will be?
Dated Sep 26, why wait this long to put the screenshots up ? I wonder.....
We may not get "official" upgrades but the kind folks around here will probably find some use for it.
Looks pretty cool!
I do believe that the odds for a free upgrade to 6.5 is possible. Just like 6.0 was upgraded to 6.1, so should 6.1 be upgraded to 6.5.
The only thing that would stop it would be if the device is too slow to handle the new version. But you shouldn't hope for a free upgrade to WM 7
Not to go off-topic but it is dispointing that we might need another upgrade just to get the new mobile IE 6.0.
Most people are of the opinion that these screen shots are fakes - due to the OSX icons being used.
Also, the 6.5 will probably be required for the new IE because of the HTML rendering engine also being used for Pocket Outlook, XML reading, etc.
I *believe* 6.5 should run fine on the current generation of HTC handsets... but WM7 is designed for the "next generation" of handsets - google nVidia's Tegra chipset to learn about this.

Well, that's a pretty good reason, isn't it?

Not only that, but the battery and signal strength indicators are transposed on the 2 shots, and it looks nothing like the preview screens of WM7 we've seen. Also, MS like screen layouts to have a logical progression, and that honeycomb layout is rather... chaotic.
It's a photoshop, and not the best on either.
Fake
Fakes for me too
And it's even more simple than that : since when Microsoft put the phone function of these devices in the first place ? Putting Microsoft Media Player in the center of the screen is more correct lol
But there is a lot of other reasons and the first one is : what a new version of Windows Mobile and the first roms are not on XDA ? Impossible, XDA is the best !
I'm making a WAD2 theme based off the second screenshot... it should be done this weekend. (or at least a beta version).

What you should make a note of is the things that it improves upon from all the previous ui's of WM past. I'll wait for 8.
When is WM7 due? It's not until 2009 is it?
Detailed picture gallery here as well..
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/01/06/is-this-windows-mobile-7/
I've gone thru the entire gallery and if its truly able to deliver on what it can do.. Its pretty much gonna be good light years jump from what WinMo and all other platforms short of the iPhone and still good 5 years ahead of the iPhone itself...
They are really going big on movement based gestures and some of the concept is truly remarkable.. like if you see lets say, a name on the browser search. One can then tap and hold on it and start "shaking" the phone/device which tells the device to do a "smart search" where it'll "rain" down a bunch of animated icons that settle down to show the various things/files/pictures/activities related to that name existing in your phone etc... what a simple yet ingenious concept.
Although, I must say that this will open more questions than answers to why did MS have to make this Super-Quantum leap from WM6 and not have given us a good progression to it in the form of already having released such interface in WM5 onwards??!!?? After all, this kind of technology and its implementation could not have just been put together overnight within the last 6 or lets say 12 months subsequent to the announcement/release of the iPhone...
Good Ol' boy wizards Mr. Gates and Balmer holding back as usual I guess...
Oh well.. better late than never.

Will Windows Mobile 7 be available as an upgrade to already existing phones? I just recently bought my tilt and am wondering if I will be able to run this when it comes out? Thanks in advance.
For tilt maybe, but I don't think my old prophet can carry the weight... There was no WM6 update, so why should there be one for 7.
Depends on the Device.
ya i was really greatful at&t baked us a wm6 rom for hermes (8525), is 100% stable and runs awesome, but i still can't wait to try some wm7 fresh from the kitchen goodness!
wonder if the unit specs will ramp up much?
Hi, just wondering why all the ROMs on here for WM 6.1 don't use the new WM 6.1 Today screen seen elsewhere?

This is just a guess, but the link you provided said that the device they were using was a "Samsung Blackjack II" which is a smartphone (non-touchscreen).

You are perfectly right.
Thats for Smartphone, not PocketPc.
Why not Pro? This looks pretty good!
Why wouldn't they make this available for Professional? This looks pretty good to me...just my opinion. Why would they make the smartphone version have functionality that the Pro. version can't have?

Smartphone's handle Today screens very differently to PPCs. With a PPC, you have a theme that controls the background image and colours, then you have individual Today plug-ins that you can move and control independently.
With a Smartphone, you install the theme and that determines the background image, colour, and EVERYTHING that is displayed on the front screen - it sets where your unread messages notification goes, where your missed calls display, etc. You cannot install anything else onto your front screen, you'd have to make and install a different theme. This makes an integrated, attractive front screen easier to make on a Smartphone, but makes personalising yours a lot harder.
I think what MS is trying to do with this aspect of WM6.1 is make the Smartphone front end more user-friendly and, crucially, useful so you don't have to go delving into the menus to do things (that we can already do on PPCs by downloading a plug-in). I've reading this as MS's attempt to bring the Smartphone's front screen closer to the usablility of the PPC's, rather than it moving ahead.
[disclaimer] I haven't looked at a Smartphone since I moved from my Typhoon to my Magician, so it might've all changed since my day! [/disclaimer]
Here you can see the different devices thats running mobile 6.1
You see the TyTn II at 5 minutes
So I was just browsing around and noticed that the 28002 Build has been spotted. After taking a look around it just looks like maybe a few UI changes and possible improved performance. Has anyone got the Build for us to port over or should we just skip this Build all together? If you have it, post here and we shall test it.
Windows Mobile 6.5.3
In November 2009, two 6.5.3 builds leaked (28002 and 28004). They have been unofficially ported to several Windows Mobile phones. Windows Mobile 6.5.3 will bring a more finger-friendly user interface, support for gestures, and an improved address book. Additionally, the start menu is moved to the lower left corner, as in desktop versions of Windows
EDIT: Found all the porting tools here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544445 I would do it but I am still learning how do do everything so I am just helping by finding the information for the experts lol.
EDIT2: Looks like Ivan will be including this build in the next version of SuperJustKitchen as stated here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4996075&postcount=17.

I've had 28002 and 28004 ported sitting on my hard drive since they were released.
I just haven't had a chance to release SuperJustKitchen v0.7, yet.
Who has time, lol. I look on xda like twice a day, lol. I did put 28002 on my Touch pro, and it's just faster I guess lol. I still have alot going but when winter break comes ALL BETS ARE OFF LOL
Thanks to all of the cook's for their on going support of the Wing! Keep up the good work, look forward to testing 6.5.3
I don't like these new versions. They're gimmicky and bloated. WinMo 6.1 fo' lyphe!
Are there releases of thos rom that are able to be flashed by SD card by any chance?

They're not gimmicky, but they ARE moving away from the need of a stylus to a more finger friendly approach. The problem is that the Herald is an aging beast, so it's not able to keep up with the pace. They're trying to keep up with Apple and Android.

28002 isn't a ROM, it's a dump of the files requires to make a ROM that's 28002 (when mixed with the required files of the device you're cooking for.
Hopefully by the end of this week or next week, you'll have a kitchen that will allow you to create ROMs with 28004 (or whatever comes out between now and then since I port all new builds the same day they are leaked out to the world.)
EDIT: Ok, now I'm porting 28005.
Hey, Ace. Would you be willing to use your glass theme with 6.5.3? I really like what you did with it originally. I think it would look amazing if you made it with the Win7 Start button too.
I think the biggest difference between WM7 and WM6.5 is UI. Picture Gallery, Zune Player and XBox Live aren't a big goal.
I hope somebody can modifie SPB Mobile Shell 3.5+ or write a new UI and we'll see WinMo7 UI in our WinMo 6.5 devices
well if WM7 does come to the HD2, this won't be needed
but i'd like to see this as well, if possible!
WM7 with htc sense, one like in android with loots of cool widgets, spb mobile shell lacks lots of widgets.

I belive HD2's are supposed to get a free upgrade to wm7...?
We all know what Microsoft are like tho, if there is any way they can squeze any money out of us, they'll try
Wanted to ask, will it run ok on the HD2 when its released? I've heard thats why they've beefed up the new US version (basically everything x2 plus 16gig on board mem ect..)
Any ideas anyone?
Hello There,
if WM7 UI avaible for WM6.5, we'll have all cool things of that two OS.
WM6.5's Multitasking and customizations + WM7 UI (ohh sorry... does WM7 has good things except UI )
SPB is launching MS 5.0. Saw its alpha working, pretty amazing 3D quality desktops and loads of widgets. They are skipping 4.x releases.. Expect something in May....

From what I understood from the webcast conference from the Barcelona mobile event was that WindowsPhone7Series has been re-written from the ground up. All brand new code designed to run on the specific hardware that Microsoft has required for partners to be elidgible.
I may have mis-understood <shrug>

actually, they're not exactly "skipping" the 4.x release. They just skip the number 4 because it's bad luck in Asia.... But really, really looking forward to MS 5.0!

Well, would be easy to just put a fullscreen pic of wm7 on the hd2 and take a picture though :/. Smells fake?
Indeed bluebird!
I now realize that (i) the homescreen that was displayed yesterday on Microsoft booth is not even exactly this one.... and more importantly (2) in Barcelona 3GSM where this phone is supposed to have been spotted there is no '3G T-Mobile NL' network!!!
Not to mention the fact it says Foto's instead of Pictures

Microsoft has revealed that it has made some big changes to its desktop UI for Windows 8, which includes moving away from Aero Glass — the UI first introduced with Vista. According to the company, this means visual changes that include "flattening surfaces, removing reflections, and scaling back distracting gradients." Source : TheVerge

Despite all of these changes with the interface, the company doesn't appear to be worried about the issue of "learnability." Instead, Microsoft believes that with a little help it won't take long for users to adapt to the new operating system. "We will help people get off on the right foot," the company explained in a blog post, "and we have confidence that people will quickly find the new paradigms to be second-nature."
While Microsoft admits that there have been some usability issues with certain gestures in the Consumer Preview, the company says that this is not an issue with people coming to grips with the concept, but instead a problem with the early state of the OS — internal builds are already "significantly improved," according to Microsoft, so we should see an easier-to-use Windows 8 when the Release Preview launches next month.
The post also packs a great dose of nostalgia, as the team looks back at interface issues dating all the way to Windows 1 in 1985. Be sure to check out the source link below for a trip down memory lane.

surprised to see this in "Android general"
anyway win8 dissapoints me more with every new news, the ui looks washed out.
window 8 sucks
Think you posted in the wrong forum. Anyways I'm surprised they are getting rid of aero. Now that hardware has caught up even low end netbooks are able to run aero on Windows 7, this wasn't the case in early 2007 when Vista arrived. Why axe something that technology has finally caught up with?
I'm seeing less and less reasons to upgrade from Windows 7 when 8 comes out. Windows 7 will become the next XP.

They use the ribbon interface for the explorer. :banghead:
I'd love to meet whoever is responsible for this and personally punch him in the face.
