Backup SMS - Touch Pro, Fuze General

hi guys, as we all know, at times we need to hard reset our TP for several reasons. Basically almost everything can be backup using activesync, however i am interested to know if there is a way i can actually backup my sms as well, and recover it back to my TP once it has been hardreset.
Let me know if there is a way.
Thanks in advance!

+1.
Use it everytime I flash a new rom or switch phones

+2 for PIM Backup, but I have a question for SMS backups that I haven't been able to figure out. Is there a known way to restore threaded-SMS order by date after a restore? Sometimes after I restore, the text messages reorder chronologically for both sent and received, but most of the time they just restore all of the received first, then all of my sent.

Really? Isn't there an option to just merge the old messages with the new ones? Because that's what I do in PIM and it works with threaded-sms.

Personally I use PowerSMS.
It works perfect everytime.

Right, which is what I've tried, but without much consistent success. When I restore from a fresh ROM flash, I select "Delete all existing messages from the Database before restoration." For one threaded conversation, if I had Received messages (A, B, C) and Sent messages (D, E, F)--from oldest to newest--when backed up, they'd be ordered A, D, B, E, C, F, but after the restore they'd be A, B, C, D, E, F. Occasionally it's the right order, but most of the time it's not. You haven't experienced this problem?

I'm experiencing this issue. I'm just about ready to hard reset since i srewed up something but whenever i restore SMS i get them all received then sent in order. Not the order they were originally in (MMS doesn't work, sux). Maybe i could try PowerSMS, i've already deleted tons of SMS as a result of formating to install new Da_G ROMs.

Problem with xda 2i

just upgraded to a 2i, unlocked to all networks, put my voda card in and can send and receive texts but not calls at all, any ideas? Tried an o2 card and its just the same,
thanx
I'm not sure what to make of this, sounds like something's seriously screwed. When I unsimlocked my 2i to copy the contacts off my old Virgin sim, I made a couple of test calls and it worked fine.
The only thing I can suggest really is that you try a hard reset and a Corporate install, then unsimlock right afterwards and give it another go. If you do do that, I'm not sure if making a full backup would help, because then when you restore it if you have a registry problem which is causing the error, it'll restore the conflict too.
The last time I did a hard reset, I wanted to keep all my text messages and contacts though, so I did do a full synchronisation with Outlook to save my contacts, and I used a really sweet programme called smsOrganizer to backup all of my MMSes and SMSes. It's not _the_ most intuitive of programs, and it does require a little manual file manipulation after the reset before you restore the files (obviously), but it worked just purfick for me
I can only really suggest a hard reset, because that's the only way I know for sure to eliminate any and all problems you have which are arising from pre-existing conflicts.

PIM Backup restore makes HTC Fuze run very slowly

I just updtaed my rom to the official 6.1 build released recently here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519698
I used Pim Backup before updating to save all my contacts and text messages.
When I did a restore, my phone ran incredibly slowly. I know that before, when I used PIM to restore from Windows 6.0 to 6.1 (this was when I was on a Cingular 8525), it took a very long time because 6.1 needed to nest all my text messages, but my fuze didn't seem to do this. It only kept the last 30 or so messages from my side of the conversation only, and the entire phone slowed down like crazy once I did the restore, especially if I do anything involving text messages, it was damn near unusable.
Is there anything I can do to restore the backup of all my contacts and text messages successfully and have them all intact the way they were before the update?
before you do a restore you should do the tweak to make texts go in regular order not threaded
then do the restore
all you need to do to speed the phone back up is to soft reset.
once you reset you do the tweak to go back to threaded and you will be fine
How many texts do you have? You may want to archive some of the older ones. It's probably worth looking at \cemail.vol just to see how big it is. I don't text much at all and don't use email; I have maybe 100 texts on my device. My cemail.vol (in the root of the device memory) is 292K. If you've got 10K+ texts or some crazy amount, my guess is that your cemail.vol file is huge-this could be your problem. I also have maybe 50 contacts, and my pim.vol is ~600K. If I were you, I'd just look at those two files, and maybe look at your available storage memory before and after restoring your pim data.
Edit: or just do what lbhocky19 said, lol.

How do I do this tweak?
do you have advanced config? if not get that
its in the messaging section
By Advanced Config, do you mean a setting somewhere in my phone that I can set to advanced mode, or do you mean a program I need to download?
Umm, Hello? Anyone?
... umm, can anybody please help me?
Well... http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=advanced+config
..... you don't have to insult me, "Advanced Config" is a common term, I didn't expect a Google search to get it right on the first hit.
So, is this program basically the equivalent of the Att Tilt's Kaiser Tweak then?
I have a new problem with PIM Backup now however.....
I used Advanced Config to set the messages as regular order, then did the restore, and it APPEARED to work fine (didnt set them back to threaded yet). But then I tried restoring the second backup, and the progress bar has been stuck at 1% for a while now. I am assuming its going so slow because its trying to insert information while the database already has so much information in it.
Is there any way I can make this work faster? A way to restore both backup files at once or merge them into one or something like that?
The reason I have two is because after I made the initial backup, since I wasn't able to get it to restore correctly, I had to reset my device yesterday so I made a second backup that is just the 2-4 week period between then I last updated it and had to reset it, it contains far far fewer messages and logs than previously.
Sorry to post again but.... I have another problem.
The restore isn't working correctly.
I used Advanced Config to set mt messages as standard instead of threaded, and restored my PIM backup. After I set ti back to threaded, it would only show the other person's side of the conversation, not mine. Then once I got a text from that person and replied it started re-sorting the messages..... and then it would only show MY side of the conversation, not theirs!
Why is this happening? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

[Q] TweakStock TitaniumBackup not restoring data?

So I just installed TweakStock and I would comment on how awesome it is but I'm more concerned about the fact that Titanium won't restore the data for my Go SMS Pro/PowerAmp(so i lost all my texts and my music playlists). The weird thing is, it restored data for most apps but theres a select few that just wont restore. It's become very problematic and I'm hoping it's not just me.
I'm not familiar with Go SMS Pro, but if it's like ChompSMS and some other replacement apps, it still uses the phone's built in SMS database, and not its own. If so, SMS data is not backed up with app data. Chomp has a backup function of its own. Go may have something similar.

Still isnt explaining why PowerAmp wasnt backed up :/
Did you back up all before flashing?

Yeh, I chose the option to back up all apps with modified data. If you check the date the last backup was made it says 12/25/11 so I'm sure everything was backed up correctly but it just doesn't want to restore the data :[
Try flashing a different rom and seeing if it does the same thing. If it does, it just didn't back up your data.

ill try that...
So I tried flashing TweakStock in Odin this time(originally did it with CWM, coming from Infinity) and it didnt work, my messages/playlists still wouldnt restore... So I flashed back to the original ROM i was on, EXT4 non-TSM Infinity and alas, to no avail. I tried 3 different versions of Titanium Backup, all 3 with and without Pro just to be sure(there were problems with Pro on Infinity), i tried restoring it manually and i tried batch restoring and of course i can't get my messages back. That's the biggest loss, I had thousands of text messages that are apparently gone forever. Makes me want to throw this phone at a wall :/ oh well

Did you make a CWM backup before you flashed Tweakstock? I suspect it may be too late for the text messages. You may want to try to install Go SMS on a blank ROM, send some texts, manually create a backup with Titanium, flash a blank ROM, and try to manually restore the backup to see if it is even possible using Titanium. My standard procedure to to create a backup in CWM before change ROMs. I use version 4.0.1.4. I know there are several apps that can back up texts. I suggest trying to use one to see if it is capable of backing up texts from Go SMS if you find that Titanium is not capable of backing up the texts.
Sorry to hear about the restore issues. There have been one or two instances reported where titanium backup didnt play nice when restoring certain apps data. At this point it seems as if it's a TiBu issue - I've even had problems with restoring app data on stock ep4d. If there is app data I'm interested in keeping, I've found more success with doing a CWM backup prior to flashing and then using the advanced restore > data feature.
I have Titanium Backup pro and am unable to restore apps. It scrolls across but does not actually install any of my apps. I have had the issue across 2 different Charges and 3 different roms.
Not sure what causes it, but the only way I have been able to resolve is by going back to the old manual install option that makes you confirm each APK before installing.

This ^^
When I first switched from froyo to gingerbread (I think I didn't switch until EP3H) thats what I had to do. The batch restore would sort of work on some apps, but it would often freeze up while doing so and require a restart to the process. I have become lazy since then and tend to cwm advanced restore data, especially if Im switching around on things using the same base build.
since when does TB back up text messages? I have never seen it
For whats it's worth I had no problems restoring all data with tweakstock and tb.
I've had no problems either. I had issues with EP3, and I had issues with Infinity, but not with stock EP4 or TweakStock

Not with the stock messaging app. It MAY back up if you use a 3rd party app if messages are saved as app data.
I had this problem several times (TiBu just breezing through the restore without actually restoring). Usually, I updated SU, then restarted my phone, then trying again. Maybe you could try flashing imoseyon's kernel, installing better busybox (Terminal -> su -> install_bb), etc and trying again. I always get it to work eventually.

I don't use a 3rd party sms/mms and I always get mine back. I make sure to backup and restore [SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage and [SMS/MMS PREFS]Messaging.

I back up the Dialer Storage every time, and that takes care of my messages (both text and MMS). I haven't backed up (or noticed, for that matter) the Messaging item. I'll try backing that up as well and see what else it gets me.
One other thing I have used is a program called SMS Backup & Restore (from the market). This worked well, although it can't back up your MMS messages. If you're the kind that likes to see your call history as well, they also have a sister program that will back up your entire call log.
I would still prefer to have Titanium back up my messages, not just because of the added MMS backups, but because the backup and restore become part of your batch process.

[Q] One contact's message thread won't open. Stock message app

Ever since the ICS upgrade, one contact's message thread refuses to open and is stuck on "O Loading" with that little circle revolving.
I downloaded go sms pro before and I was able to access his thread through that and the message count wasn't over the maximum limit per contact. I've since gone back to the stock app as he's out of the country and it's faster than go sms pro but he recently txted me and caused the problem to occur with other contacts (though a reset of the phone solves their issue)
Does anyone have a solution and failing that, advice? I should say right now that deleting his message thread is the last resort.

You could try to backup your messages (you can find some apps for that in the market), then delete all your contacts, and afterwards restore them again~
Though no idea if it will work :/

Aye I could try it with a contact whose messages I don't mind losing and seeing if that works, thanks for the tip!
You can also use Google Voice, and have it copy all the messages to your Gmail account.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
So I started backing up and restoring and I was able to open all contacts' threads. The backup never fully restores all messages though and I have to keep hitting "restore" so that it'll restore them all up to the present day. Don't know why it's doing it this way.
Just now I've checked and that one contact won't open again. What I might do is try and restore all to the present, delete loads of messages I don't want, and backup this new message history.
I know this is most likely far too late but I was having the same problems and found this thread while trying to sort it and hope it will help anyone else in future who has the same problems. I tried backing up and restoring (Using both the default and sms back-up and restore) deleting the thread and restoring, eventually I solved it by installing handscent, deleting the messages sent/received back to when the problem started in that thread and a few before, then went in settings, apps, then all, messages cleared the cache, restarted and it is sorted!!

Yeah it never resolved itself but I love the customisation of go sms pro so much that I don't mind anymore. Pity go sms pro crashes every so often and I think it slows the phone down.
I was going to start a new thread but see that this is the same problem I have.
I have a mt4gs (Doubleshot) and the problem described in this thread has happened twice. Both times i was receiving a text message and did something else with the phone at the same moment, and it seems to have jammed up the receipt of that text. The first time, i sent a text to the person at the same moment i received one. The second time, i locked the screen at the moment one arrived. Now that thread never loads, and loading other threads or contacts takes much longer than it should. In fact, i don't think contacts would ever load if i were willing to wait forever.
The first time I backed up the texts, reset the device, and restored, and everything worked fine, but that's a really time-consuming process and it seems like a ridiculous workaround for some broken buffer or queue in Android messaging.
It seems that there must be a direct fix for this. If it's easy enough to break messaging that it has happened to me twice, it must be a fairly common problem. But a search has turned up nothing but people saying there are too many messages or to use an alternative app for messaging. That's (1) incorrect and (2) again an ugly workaround for a problem with core functionality.

[Q] Restore SMS & MMS From GMAIL

I have my SMS & MMS Synced with my GMAIL, but I a unable to pull them from my email to my phone. Does anyone know of an app that will do this?
I use SMS backup+, it has options for both backup and restore.
Although restoring on mine tends to fail due to the sheer number of messages :/

I actually just tried that app, and it only backs up some of my messages (similar to what you said). It also is restoring from newest to oldest, so when I open my text app I see the oldest conversations at the bottom, instead of the newest.

Backing up works perfectly for me, I've only tried restore once and then gave up on it.
Email the dev if you have persistent issues, it should work perfectly
