G1 is not support font for some country like Thai, Vietnam, Japan ...
I try to access to system of G1 (using some tutorial on this forum) and I replace old font by new font. But it's not work and my phone was bricked (now I can unbrick it) then I think we need flash or do something like that to cheat G1 system.
I try replace file on SDK 1.0 and it worked.
Please help us (Vietnamese, Japanese, ...) to surf web with our language
I will upload my font files I created and I hope some one can help us. Thank you very much.

Could someone please take a look at this problem? I am in need for the G1 to display Vietnamese correctly. Please help and thank you in advance for your effort.
Hey,
I am not sure if this gonna help u but I hope so.
I had the same problem with hebrew and these are the steps I did in order to add hebrew support (only reading) on my G1.
1. Downloaded modifded RC30 that published here
2. Unpack it
3. Replace those files:
-DroidSans.ttf
-DroidSans-Bold.ttf
-DroidSansMono.ttf
with other fonts (in my case I took Arial fonts which is also ttf files and rename them to the names I wrote to u)
* All fonts are under /system/fonts/
4. Zip again to update.zip
5. SignAPK with the android source tesk_keys
6. update my device via recovery mode
You have all the info here in the forum on how to install modified recovery image and how to install new update file, the only thing you have to do is replace the fonts like I told u.
Good Luck...
You can go to http://www.ascendercorp.com/news/open-handset-alliance/
to find the supported language.
I do not know Vietnamese, but I found japanese and chinese language there
I added chinese language xml to many apps and compile them myself then added them to system/app directory, zip again to update.zip then update to my devices, and it works.
the app resource files do not contain other languages's xml files in the original release.
I can't check I'm using OTA RC30 Someone please check these ways, I will send you all file and link to check any language you want.
Send me an message : [email protected] or send me an email : [email protected]
I haven't tried but what if we do it this way.
adb shell
su
cd /system/fonts
rm [font files name]
push [font files name] /system/fonts/[font files name]

If you remove your font file, you will not restore when your device has problem, you device will be bricked. Should use "mv" to move font file to anoher folder and test with new font.
But I think they will not work. You need add it to update.zip and use signapk, if the update work, you're succcess
Is there a way to replace the system apps of the official OTA RC30 such as alarmclock, settings etc. with a new one which is built out by ourselves?

New version here...
I have uploaded the folders of the kitchen separately, because it's easier to maintain it.
If you seriously want to cook, you will need all folders
- I have finished the new kitchen. I'll just call it 0.3, since it is based on Dr. Gonzo's kitchen and Guava ROM kitchen (so a lot of credit goes to Dr. Martin Gonzo).
- It contains only the system part and some essential OEM-packages. Others can be downloaded here.
- The kitchen also contains US-English and German, other languages can be added.
- Please check out the Wiki first, there is an article about cooking, which still applies to this one!
- It does not contain any Radios, you can download the newest here!
How to add languages:
1) Download the language you need from the ftp
There are Greek, Finnish, Hungarian, Dutch, Romanian and Portuguese.
2) Unzip the archive (they are self-extracting)!
3) You will find two folders: OEM and SYS. Copy the content of SYS to the SYS folder of the kitchen and the contents of OEM to the OEM folder of the kitchen. After adding the language you should run G'Reloc. Then, when you run BuildOS just select the right language, but only check one of the languages.
4) You can delete German language if you want. Just delete all folders with a 0407 in it in the SYS folder and language_german and OEM_Lang_0407 in the OEM folder. Do never delete English!!!
- Chinese is not working so far
This is the about screen of the German ROM!
Ohhh... lot's of thanks man! This is just what I was looking for...
Someone (I guess you or Dr Gonzo) could make a little how to on how to get a working kitchen from a shipped rom? I tried by myself twice and I always end up with BuildOS dropping an error...
Anyway, thanks a lot!
There seems to be a bug in Buildos (well I think it's one, but I haven't been able t get in contact with Bepe toi talk abot it)
Anyway the tricky part is that Buildos always want a special dsm file in OEM_LANG409 folder (not sure about the name of the folder)
Here is what you can try : take the dsm file in that folder from Frauthotelmann new kitchen and put it in yours.
But before that take the .dsm and .rgu and put them in a folder (any name you want) you will create in the OEM foler.
Thank you frauthottelmann for creating the thread on this new kitchen !
Will this work on a Windows Vsta machine?
Hello,
I saw this great Rom Kitchen project and wanted to check it out. But when double click on the Build.bat on my Vista machine, i get the text based screen. When i select 1, 2, 3,... and press enter, nothing happens.
Is this supposed not to operate on vista machines?
Thanks, Olaf
Yeah we noticed that problem with Vista a couple of times before. Try right clicking and select "Execute as administrator" or so. Maybe then it works!
Hi!
There's a bug on the Splash Screen creation part. It's just the directory name.
The original Kitchen's folder name was:
2.Edit
This kitchen's folder name is:
2. Edit
You'll have to change the directory name and remove that blank space on folder name to make the splash screen work again.
Apart from that, the original windows.nb is missing, so you have to get it from the original rom file...
Everything else works fine for now!
Are these your own languages pack or the one I made for my rom ? because I havent' tested any of them right now.
If they are yours have you tested them ? And if so can I borrow them for my rom release ?
I already noticed the problem with the splash screen creator, took care of it. But I changed the *.bat!
Nope they are from your language kitchen, but if you took them from a 1.34 ROM they should work, I did the same for German and it works fine! I have to rupload all of them anyways, because I took the et9 files out and made a seperate folder for them!
Where is the spanish language?
Thanks
Well, it looks like we don't have a package for Spanish! Make one if you can find a Spanish ROM!

OK - maybe this is the same problem I have been having. Unfortunately, neither doing this nor moving the .dsm file makes any difference for me - Buildos just crashes straight away...any other ideas how to get this running?
Ok Frauhottelmann here is my "discovery" about languages pack. You know I had a lot of troubles making my french language packs (and probably others) to work. Well I've been able to if I replace the base rom used for reconstruction (the nb file in \ROM). For exemple if I use the ARA ROM instead of the latest htc 1.34 WWE French works perfectly!
So languages have to be somewhat supported by the base rom.
SO you'll probably have to make different .nb files available. Or maybe we can find a base rom that supports all languages ..
But using the ara as a baserom doesn't appear to be a perfect solution, because I've lost mms option in the messaging app for exemple.
So it really look like I'll have to wait for htc to fix their damned french rom update
Mh OK we'll have to find a ROM with as much languages in it as possible! How many are in the WWE version of the 1.34?
The languages I have left on my server + some others work although they are not in the rom : for exemple Czech works. I don't know if others do.
I suppose the problem resides in mxip_lang.vol..
Anyway I have WWE and Nordic versions of the 1.34 rom. I'm writing a little guide now and updating\testing a few languages pack. I hope I will be able to release them today if I have time.
I hope I can finally finish the uploading tomorrow from a friends internet connection, since I am not able to finish a complete upload here. Once this is done the kitchen should work and I am off skiing for a week! cya guys
i am still encounting the buildOS.exe crash on vista. are there some fixes done or some workarounds which lead to a working kitchen?
thx to all you guys for your great work
Hm I uploaded a new Version uf the build.bat which seemed to fix the problem under Vista. You always have to use the bat to open builos, otherwise it will crash! Look on the ftp, I uploaded in parts, so you can just download the folders with bats!
Is it possible to build/cook any dumped ROM with this kitchen or is it just for New Guava?
Roland
It's trial and error, because you have to extract the ROM, but there are usually some rgu s missing. And you have to change the base ROM in the ROM folder to the new one.

Figured I'd post this guide in case anyone else wanted to do the same,
Instructions:
1 nandoid backup
2 download the attached .rar file
3 adb devices
4 adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk framework-res.apk
(make a backup copy of this file)
5 open the apk file with winrar
6 insert the .png files that are in the attached rar file into the framework-res.apk's \res\drawable-hdpi folder
7 adb remount
8 adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
9 adb reboot
For those looking for an easier way to do this you can make a flashable file here --> http://circle.glx.nl/
Oh wow! Can you do that with the Blacy emotes?
trying!
@martijua i just tried it and let see if it worked. rebooting now!!!!
It worked great!!
@GENEius what are blacy emotes?
Update i saw the" blacky emotes" and i would say yes you can if you had all the icons the right sizes
I decided to try other icons and i found out that....
- nandroid backup is a must just in case you mess anything up!
- If it is not the right size 24 x 24 px it will show a blank space instead of an icon.
-While doing this process you will see a FC error but that's ok just adb reboot
POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR FC ERRORS!
- If you do not adb pull before you abd push.
- Receiving a text while trying this out.
Not 100% sure because both of these things happend within the same try!
-I noticed that i actually put >PNG instead of .png and that may have been the problem.
NOW IT"S WORKING WILL UPDATE WITH A IMAGE!
SINCE I AM ACTUALLY DOING A LOT FOR THIS AND WILL TRY TO DO MORE I WILL CREATE MY OWN POST!

well....use root explorer, navigate to system/app and extract the framework, replace the emoticons, and copy-paste the mms app back where it came from

Just wanted to add my testimony.
This works, but it will remove all your accounts from the Accounts section, thus removing you contacts, and resetting your wallpaper, and probably other personal settings.
However, setting them back was easy, and re-adding the account was also easy. Got all my contacts back and so on.
Thanks martijua!
http://circle.glx.nl/ is gone. Any alternatives?
ATM I don't have time to deal with missing stuff and restoring them back
P.S. Which way of those two mentioned exactly leads to losing some data? ADB or RootExplorer way?

Here is a pack of Emoji Emoticons if anyone wants to try out.
Do it at your own risk, i am not responsible for any damage.

What happens if i try to put empty files with png extension or blank png files or something - I believe that won't work...?
i want Sony Ericsson c901 & k800 smiley pack on my Samsung Galaxy Ace..
how do i get that?
[GUIDE NOT FOR NOOBIES][HOW-TO][WINDOWS ONLY] Fix custom font "question mark" problem
Hello again!
As you may know, almost every custom font has got this problem. These strange question marks (or other) that appears very often in many places with text.
In my favourite custom font called Zrnic this symbol looked like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
In my case this was mainly appearing:
- in YT apk while reading comments:
- in Titanium Backup Pro while browsing app list:
- and even when receiving SMS:
Finally I got pissed off and thought about fixing this annoying bug.
While I was browsing some threads on the Internet I've found a little bit tricky way how to get rid of it. I wasn't sure about the 100% success on Android but I've tried this fix and IT WORKED!
This guide will be the step-by-step one mainly because the program you will use to fix the font bug is in Japanese. Personally I don't know it but it was easy to intuitively do some clicks
I warn you - this is not for noobies, only advanced users should proceed as I probably won't do any video guide soon.
----------------------------------------
Files you need:
- Font Installer *ROOT* by JRUMMY16 - install this program and find yourself some nice font.
- .ttf file with your bugged font (for Font Installer *ROOT* the directory for the font is sd/romtoolbox/fonts/previews
- Japanese version of fontforge ported to cygwin. THIS WORKS ONLY ON WINDOWS!
Optional (if link above doesn't work):
http://www.geocities.jp/meir000/fontforge/ - file called "fontforge-cygwin_2011_06_06.zip (20MB)"
Things you need to do:
1. Download your .ttf file to your computer.
2. Download ported fontforge to your computer.
3. Unpack fontforge-cygwin_2011_06_06.zip and open that folder.
4. Run fontforge.bat and wait PATIENTLY for the cmd to unpack all the files you need and start the program. It takes a minute or more. Just wait.
5. Finally you will see this window
6. Select your .ttf file directory from the expandable menu and open that .ttf file
7. After opening .ttf file you will see this window
8. Scroll up until you see this. Select the very first symbol called "space". Mostly it's to the left of exclamation mark. Click on that symbol and press CTRL+C
9. Now a little bit hard part. Scroll down until you see this (help yourself a bit by clicking to different symbols until you find "U+FEFF")
10. While highliting this symbol, press CTRL+V. Congrats! You have almost fixed your problem!
11. Right-click on this symbol and select this option
12. Change EVERY VARIABLE TO "0"! And click OK.
13. Now you only have to generate your new .ttf file. Click these things.
14. Rename your font to "FontName"-Fixed.ttf and from the expandable menu right under the file name select TrueType. Click on the button with "somethingjapanese"(S).
Then click this
15. Congrats! Font generated! You can close the window, click on the X button on the top and select this option
Ok, that's all with font editing. Now some work with your phone.
1. Backup your original .ttf file with non-fixed font somewhere else.
2. Change "FontName"-Fixed.ttf to "FontName".ttf
3. Place this font back to sd/romtoolbox/fonts/previews OVERWRITING ORIGINAL FONT WITH THE FIXED ONE.
4. Run Font Installer *ROOT*.
5. Find again your font, tap it and select install (don't delete it because you will have to oerwrite it again!).
6. Reboot and... enjoy your fixed font
If you did everything right after reboot you should see this:
IF THIS HELPED YOU, CLICK THANKS!
The link to fontforge doesn't work
Found it somewhere else, and done it
BEFORE: .................................................. ................................. AFTER:
I'm glad that helped you too. I don't know why you couldn't download fontforge from provided link so I've added new one - original site with that file.

I have to disagree. If you are putting in a custom font, I would call that part of theming. This is just a how-to on how to fix unrecognized characters in font packs you were to apply. A rather handy explanation of what is going wrong and how to fix it. Well done in my opinion.
I feel awfully lazy for doing this, but since a) I don't have access to a Windows computer, and b) FontForge on OSX does not allow me to copy-paste the space symbol, I am kindly asking you to fix these fonts for me.

Sure, for the icons I downloaded and installed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/themes-apps/mod-gwbt-theme-g3-tweaksbox-themes-t2852754
you must have G3 Tweaksbox installed to use the theme.
To install the keyboard, downloaded the Zip file
http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony-themes-apps/app-z3-keyboard-t2868406
Extract the lib and app folders. Using Root Explorer insert the contents of the lib folder into the /system/lib directory and changed the permissions to rw-r-r- to the file. Do the same for the contents of the app folder and also change the permissions to rw-r-r- to every file. Once completed reboot, it should say "updating" for 1 app. Once you are loaded up open the keyboard settings and download the language pack of your choice. Any questions let me know.

Once completed reboot, it should say "updating" for 1 app. Once you are loaded up open the keyboard settings and download the language pack of your choice. Any questions let me know.

I wish to flash it too, but can you tell me do the keyboard has Japanese and Chinese built in, or language packs that can be downloaded? Thanks.
Hi guys,
Have you ever installed a mod without making a backup before? Did the mod break your system or was not working the way you expected? The only way to recover the system to the previous state was to restore an old backup and loose all new data.
Thanks to my mod, this won't happen again! I present to you "I Don't Want You!".
It means NO NEED TO ALWAYS MAKE BACKUP BEFORE INSTALLING A MOD!
How it works?
It creates update.zip containing apps changed by mod in comparison to stock system and deleting files added by the mod to our system.
What it does?
-creates update.zip
-signs the zip
-Additionally: pulls /system from the device (using adb) (you need to do that once before installing mods instead of unpacking system manually form FTF/.zip file)
Requirements:
-Windows
-.NET Framework 4.5 or higher
-files installed/changed by mod (the content of mod's .zip file without META-INF)
-Recovery installed on your Android device
-Rooted android device
-Java
Compatibility:
Every device and every Android build!
It does not fully support mods with AROMA Installer
Currently It works only with mods influencing /system.

Would you like a port of it?
Can the update.zip be flashed with stock recovery?
(Probably not, but I don't have my PC around to check )

Update.zip made by my tool should work on all recoverys using edify language. Please provide me an example of flashable zip for your recovery and I will check.
If It comes to porting the tool for linux, I need help in that matter as far as I am not using Linux and I haven't made any program for that system yet. Of course I will provide source code. Please contact me via PM. However you can try opening the tool with Wine. The ADB wont work but you can copy your /system manually and provide path to it in program.

Great job man!
Would you mind to put up kind of a noob tutorial with a brief description/explanation of what each option would exactly do?
...dont need to explain what the option "EXIT" will do though! Lol

+1
Crashed
Looks like it copied /system but then failed at the last minute
Like jshare, crashed in last minute!
crashes during cleaning up process.....maybe add code to kill ADB and restart it before cleaning
@Vagelis1608
It should work
@ChazzMatt
Of course it doesn't! Currently it works only with /system mods.
@RMarques
The only options you need is:
1. For pulling system from your phone
2. To make update.zip (all other options are included in this one)
@jshare @Limac @Manvindar
Yeah, I forgot to add line for killing "adb" process in latest version, because I slightly rearranged whole code. I will upload fixed version in 10 min
UPDATE
I have uploaded fixed version!
