New UI / Mobile OS(?) - To Dutty and Chef's

Dutty and Chef's,
I am not sure if any of the devices like Kaiser can be ported with this new mobile OS(?). Its a open source. Developers, have a look and try to make something out of it.
http://www.ubuntu.com/products/mobile
people have been working on getting linux working on the hermes for a very long long time and not much came from it so i don't think much work will be done for the kaiser at this time. Maybe in a year or so but this is not something that new and there is no real benefit from porting it to the kaiser
Sorry, I thought this is something new. Mod, please delete / lock this post if you feel so.

WM7 ??

Guys im sure this has been discussed before but couldnt find anything
any news on wm7 beng released anytime soon?
Not until 2010!
Regards,
Carty..
i did an article over this a little while back, windows mobile 6.5 is due out in a little while, but wm7 is a long way off
well I all I know is that all WM Phone that has been made in the past 6 months should get a FREE upgrade to WM7. I say this because WM7 Should have came out by now but like always MS likes to push dates back and the phones was made for WM7.
and if we dont then I'm saying BYE to WM and HI to iPhone.
thats what i thought - last i checked it was out soon, but that was a while ago - oh well lets see what 6.5 has to offer
2010!! peh! better be good then

Tomals WM 6.5 rom poll, vote now please

Hello
Tomal has requested for us to vote if we are interested in a WM 6.5 rom by him, so let him know by voting now please. Just remember this is still a very buggy rom and not yet on official release so it may be stopped!!!

Yes I realise that, but I thought it was more important to see how people felt about WM 6.5 in general first. If Tomal can make it run well already then Great, but there isn't much point if people are happy to wait if you catch my drift?
Regards
Jay
I'd love to see a new wm6.5 rom.
His 6.1 roms are perfect as is!
Ummmmmm......interest for WM6.5 getting increased!
Tomal WM 6.5 Rom - A good one!
Hi!
I think Tomal should tweak this ROM and make it more useful. Have been using the ROM and started to loving it. Though it has bugs and need often resets yet it can be made much more better with some effort.
Tomal, please do spare sometime and make it better for us to use.

Tomal WM 6.5 beta
I voted for "Wait until it is more stable", because the effort Tomal has to bring, is useless IMO. This is a beta-version and not that stable right now as users want it to be.
I use my cell phone for private things & business. So I need a fast and stable ROM like Tomals great 6.1'ers.
I have no 2nd Uni, only for playing and testing where I can say "Wow...look here: WM 6.5 Beta. I'm the king..."
Thanks Tomal for your great ROMs, but IMHO you should wait, without waisting too much time for a buggy ROM. THe time will come, but not now...
can Tomal stop to play with WM6.5 ?
I think he will get fever if he did
... i hope i'm right
if Tomal can make it stable why we should wait ?
wm 6.5
If you please,Tomal, make the best 6.5 rom for our old universal
Yes!
Yes, definately interested. Tomal v8.5 is one of the greatest pieces of software ever crafted. If you could apply that sorta magic, speed, responsiveness to WM 6.5, wow. Uni rocks!
WM 6.5 is of course already set for finger friendly UI, decent browser and all that, so you even wouldn't need to build much custom touch focused menus and that sorta thing. Hope to see this!
Just my damn screen broke. Lol. Flex cable musta snapped. Working on it...Damn, my other is a JAM, but I miss the keyboard for IM.
See the first look of 6.5 on pocketpcthoughts.com. Looks very neat.
Reflexion:
Why mostly the newbies ask for a 6.5?
Why they refer to Tomal as if they were old friends?
Just my personal reflexion, no ofense to anyone...
Good day,
LET´S PUT SOME VOTES! WE ARE JUST EVEN WITH KAISER
Yesterday WM 6.5 was officially presented in Barcelona, Spain. The question "When will WM 6.5 show up?" was answered by Ballmer with "Somewhere this year".
I hope Tomal will stay at his WM 6.1-projects. But in the end it is his own decision.

Because it is a leaked beta?! Spending time on final versions is more reasonable IMO.
Well... now that Tomal is working on 6.5 and beta1 is out this poll become usless I think
No ofense of course!

While I'll continue to try out the various 6.5-esque builds, I won't be planning to use them for prime-time until *after* a final-version 6.5 of *something* has been released and reverse-engineered.
IMHO, while development/testing time isn't a waste, because it will build experience with what's possible, at least, it certainly is let's say 'naive' to expect to have a fully-working, perfect port of something that's only in beta to start-off with!
Remember - the final WM6.5 hasn't even been released to the manufacturers yet!

The 'naive' quote wasn't directed at you, apologies if you thought it was, but at all those 'newbies' who seem to be continually voting for tomal, etc, to keep on going with 6.5 ROMs *now* <sarcasm>and where is the video-call</sarcasm>
Whatever happened to the FAQ that was mooted for this board, which would start off with "NO, there is NO working video-call on WM 6.x !!"...
PJC
It would be a pity if Tomal works on an instable OS. So I voted to wait until a more stabel one comes up.
When it does, Tomal should work on it immediately, so I can have a 6.5 ROM the day after its release
ok, ok, I will let him work on it as long as he needs. Just hope he can make a professional ROM from the overblown funny ROM which has much too much programs in it.
(ROM designers forgot the difference between OS and separate programs; I would love to see a really bare OS with much file memory free so I can install my own programs.)

Rhodium

Hi all,
I have had my Rhodium for one week now and can happily say that I have finally found a worthy replacement for my beloved Uni.
Just thought you would all like to know that there is finally a worthy replacement.
Check out the user reviews over in the Rhodium general forum for more info.
I know that there are a lot of you here who, like myself, have been waiting for a long time for a decent succesor to the Uni.
Well now there is.
There are some excellent contract deals over at mobile phones direct
www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk
I haven't been able to find any better deals on the net than this and as an added bonus the device comes unlocked without any branding (currently)
Have a read through the Rhodium forum and if you have been waiting for a decent upgrade, take the plunge now whilst the deals are good and the device is unbranded.
Good bye Uni forum, will miss all the great users here that have supported me and the many friends I have made here.
Cheers,
Beasty
Thanks Beasty
Your comments are well aprecited
I am aware of Rhodium and afeter this post maybe I consider to buy one
Shame we don´t see you in Uni
Anyway I´ll keep my Universal!!!

Hey Orb,
I still have my treasured Uni too, and will never foresake it, still running my own build on her too.
I must say though that the Rhodium truly is a replacement.
Too much on at work to spend much time in the forums these days, least of all working on any Rom Development.
Things will calm down after summer though, and I shall start on Rom Dev again, but probably in the Rhodium forum.
The Rhodium is so fast on the stock Rom, it blows all other devices away even with the great Roms we have from all the Devs here, the Rhodium on stock is still the fastest device I've seen. Can't wait to see how it performs once we can Develop our own flavours.
Buy one, you won't regret it.
Cheers,
Beasty

its sad to hear that another great chef will be leaving uni, but everything must go on.... regards and good luck. but hoping yu'll change yur mind and start cooking for rhodium and uni as well, if yur sched will permit..
Can't wait for beast to port the Rhodium ROM to the Uni ha ha!
Ah well, yes, I'll be buying a Rhodium... but I'm going to wait until their nearer the £150 mark in eBay first. So not for a few years yet, I think there's still a little bit of life left in the Uni yet.
Nice machine, though, everything I'd want in a Uni upgrade.

Hah...hah...ha...very well said.
I have to agree with JonMorgan...
I like the HD and Rhodium is also nice( even not using KB a lot), but the price it to high for me.
I prefered to buy a netbook ( not as Asus Beasty, lol). I got the HP mini 1000 for 270€ (20% discount over sell price, great deal)( I'm using it to type this message).
400, 500, 600€ is way to much for a pda/phone.
If I can get a HD near 300, maybe I'll think about it, but if we keep to get new ROMs for Uni, the next buy will take some time.
Beasty, if you keep the Rhodium for a long time as the Uni, maybe we will meet again (how's life?). Did Leo also moved, he he?
Cheers

Looking for info from some of the Chefs.

First let me say, I admire all the Chefs here at xda, your works are fantastic!!! I read all I can about all the versions, as I am soon going to upgrade to an HD2......when I land the extra spending cash.
However in the meantime, I was wondering if someone like myself with no prior program exp. could tinker with a rom?
Where would I start.....I am guessing I need a Kitchen that will support my phone?
I was also wondering if there is a way to strip down a newer release of Windows Mobile 6.5 that will allow running on a 176x220 phone?
( I am aware of Aluet's 6.1 and 6.5 ).
What I would like to try or who knows inspire a Chef, to get the Titanium home, with flip clock and a working weather, then strip out alot of what the phone can't use, in hopes to slim down 6.5 and manage to get a stable flash.
I have an Audiovox SMT 5600 (Typhoon).
Now is there also a way to run a phone emulation on my PC as a test bed for the rom, as I would hate to brick my phone.
In any event any advice or info will be greatly welcome here, as I would like to learn more then just flashing my phone........which I would like to state I could not have learned how, were it not for xda and it's wonderful "How To" writers!!!!!!
