Rhodium - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

Hi all,
I have had my Rhodium for one week now and can happily say that I have finally found a worthy replacement for my beloved Uni.
Just thought you would all like to know that there is finally a worthy replacement.
Check out the user reviews over in the Rhodium general forum for more info.
I know that there are a lot of you here who, like myself, have been waiting for a long time for a decent succesor to the Uni.
Well now there is.
There are some excellent contract deals over at mobile phones direct
www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk
I haven't been able to find any better deals on the net than this and as an added bonus the device comes unlocked without any branding (currently)
Have a read through the Rhodium forum and if you have been waiting for a decent upgrade, take the plunge now whilst the deals are good and the device is unbranded.
Good bye Uni forum, will miss all the great users here that have supported me and the many friends I have made here.
Cheers,
Beasty

Thanks Beasty
Your comments are well aprecited
I am aware of Rhodium and afeter this post maybe I consider to buy one
Shame we don´t see you in Uni
Anyway I´ll keep my Universal!!!
Cheers,

Hey Orb,
I still have my treasured Uni too, and will never foresake it, still running my own build on her too.
I must say though that the Rhodium truly is a replacement.
Too much on at work to spend much time in the forums these days, least of all working on any Rom Development.
Things will calm down after summer though, and I shall start on Rom Dev again, but probably in the Rhodium forum.
The Rhodium is so fast on the stock Rom, it blows all other devices away even with the great Roms we have from all the Devs here, the Rhodium on stock is still the fastest device I've seen. Can't wait to see how it performs once we can Develop our own flavours.
Buy one, you won't regret it.
Cheers,
Beasty

its sad to hear that another great chef will be leaving uni, but everything must go on.... regards and good luck. but hoping yu'll change yur mind and start cooking for rhodium and uni as well, if yur sched will permit..

Can't wait for beast to port the Rhodium ROM to the Uni ha ha!
Ah well, yes, I'll be buying a Rhodium... but I'm going to wait until their nearer the £150 mark in eBay first. So not for a few years yet, I think there's still a little bit of life left in the Uni yet.
Nice machine, though, everything I'd want in a Uni upgrade.

Hah...hah...ha...very well said.

I have to agree with JonMorgan...
I like the HD and Rhodium is also nice( even not using KB a lot), but the price it to high for me.
I prefered to buy a netbook ( not as Asus Beasty, lol). I got the HP mini 1000 for 270€ (20% discount over sell price, great deal)( I'm using it to type this message).
400, 500, 600€ is way to much for a pda/phone.
If I can get a HD near 300, maybe I'll think about it, but if we keep to get new ROMs for Uni, the next buy will take some time.
Beasty, if you keep the Rhodium for a long time as the Uni, maybe we will meet again (how's life?). Did Leo also moved, he he?
Cheers

Want to donate Prophet!!!

I have a prophet which I have no use for. It is not in the best condition but is in fully working order. Comes from orange but is unlocked and is running one of the old i-mate roms...
Now i can't decide who to donate it to but if any of you have ideas I will gladly accept any suggestions.
I only have the handset as i bought it years ago.
I DO NOT WANT MONEY FOR THIS AS LONG AS IT GOES TO SOMEONE THAT CAN APPRECIATE IT AND WILL NOT TRY TO SELL IT ON TO MAKE MONEY.
if the moderators have any ideas - maybe a competition of some sort
kind regards,
krassen
P.S. - photos can be found at http://81.86.99.181/Prophet/
hope it goes to a good cause
to me! (joke - I don't need 2 prophets)...
give it to crestdelta he needs a new phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=5951314
or to netrunnerat, he's always looking for a cheap prophet for testing
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1325570&postcount=17
Happily!
I already have a TyTN, but my father is jealous of it and would love getting a PPC!
EDIT: A competition would be a great idea, considering some might not be home 'till late and miss the offer.
EDIT 2: We (me or my father) would happily pay for the shipping
i'm sure some devs/cookers could use it.
i'll gladly take it off your hands & will pay shipping. Need it for the missus, she's been looking for a pda-phone since her palm t5 died.
please pick me!!
ta
No no no pick me!
Heheh.
up to the guy donating it, but i think it would be put to better use going to a developer than 'somebody's missus' ?
Yup, first, try to find a cooker that does need it so that he can release ROM's for it. That is, first, post to the Prophet Upgrading forum. If you don't find anyone or not any cooker / dev needs it, you can also think of me so that I can start publishing hands-on experience Prophet infos too.

Yup, experienced cookers / hackers / devs that would really like to release ROM's and other device-specific stuff for the Prophet should be preferred.

Yeah, some of these developers risk their phone for our sake.. it's only fair that they should be higher priority than those who already have a phone.
Menneisyys and Midget_1990 are good candidates for it.
They always have something good to contribute.

So far we have two good candidates...

Midget_1990
i wanted to get a few more good names and then make a poll and see...whoever wins it will get the device...

Let Midget_1990 have it if he plans to release cooked ROM's for it - after all, ROM's are more important for the general public than mere device-specific tricks & compatibility infos / reports I'd publish.
i'm not a cooker
I don't make roms
I don't really know what the Prophet is
I already have an Orbit
But I WILL swap you it for half a carrot, a turnip and a bag of frozen garden peas (although you will have to organize your own freezer van to ensure they arrive to you in a still frozen form..)
Sorry - its the wine talking.......I'll go away now......
I would be glad to get that prophet because I need to have a working phone during daytime for my work.... so I can only flash at might because I can't miss any calls from customers .... I get verry litle sleep because I have to do all my coocking and flashing at late hours
there is the best candidate ^^
(rom's are no problem btw )

Our dear Tomal has stated that unless Uni leaves him, he has no plans to abandon it soon!
One of the best ways to say thanks is donating!! (To XDA or Tomal)
So Universal for some more time!

I am willing to swap Tomal 1 complete Uni for his 128Mb board...Just to keep him in the game, all of the Uni lovers provided with ROMs and me with upgraded board to enjoy anything Tomal has to offer... How about it, Tomal?

That's nice offer. But I don't think it will be worth for you because of the shipping cost. As well as my side due to added (huge) customs duty.
But I'll think of it....let's see what alternative idea I can generate...

Thank Tomal !
I just wanna thank YOU 4 every thing YOU have made 4 us. Your roms are the greatest and I hope You will not live us 4 sure but sometimes give us some new stuff.

Now with 6.5 ROM from Tomal and other chefs Uni es more alive than ever!!

Raphael or Dream?!

Hello,
I want to buy a new mda and i'm torn between a Raphael and a Dream...
I'm having trouble choosing between these two.
I mean i'm very curious about the Dream, running Android and all, but on the other hand, looking at the tech. specs, Raphael seems a bit more packed and i could still use IGO. Kind of got used to WM i guess; i currently have a Nike200...
Could anyone please tell me what's your opinion, which one would you choose...?
Thanks.
WM or Android
Welcome to forums
I´ll choose Rapahel definetly
I think Android OS is not mature yet, perhaps in a few years but not now.
Just my 2 cents.
read , search, respect and enjoy!
Good luck,
well..im having a dilemma now too..i tot of buying android phone..but i love to taste the window mobile phone..but i suggest u to take raphael like what orb said is true..but if u have little more money to spent on android phone i would take both.cos i want to get familiar with the OS...
Thank you for the replies. I guess I just needed a little push towards HTC Raphael...
Great choice!!
Then go to Wiki and to Raphael secton and enjoy!
If you are not in a rush, you could even go for the Touch Pro II. T-Mobile already has it available and it is roughly the same that AT&T, Sprint, etc are charging for the Touch Pro/Fuze.
But I agree with orb, Android is far from being done (although the Hero interface does look pretty neat)!

Leaving the community

Just wanted to say that i have sold my Universal, so i will be leaving the community.
I bought my self a new PPC, so I will move to the Kaiser section.
Just wanted to thank you all for the fantastic ROMs and the support.
Special thanks to: orb3000, luca15thebig, rajivshahi and Tomal
We will still catching us around!
Good luck with your new device!
I´m sure later you´ll return to Uni
Cheers,
Enjoy your new toy. Good luck.
Enjoy your new device and will definitely catch you soon ,,, and glad you got another HTC lol so you'r still gonna be around in xda-dev the greatest community...
He'll be back to the Uni - if he can find one to buy. Some of us have tried those other devices and found the Uni the device to have. In case someone else out there is considering selling their Uni, I strongly advise you keep it even if you don't use it. You'll find yourself craving for a Uni again, and then be glad you never sold it!

RAM upgrade

Hi,
This there anyone within the UK that could upgrade my Uni for a price?
From 64 -----> 128mb
Try www.retronix.co.uk.
Give them a call and ask for HTC universal upgrades.
The cost is £80 plus postage, or £50 plus postage if you supply the ram chips.
My venerable old uni is being upgraded by them as we speak. All I had to do was to send the phone to them. They take payment when the job is complete.
I'll post again when the upgraded phone arrives, just to let you know how it went.
Hey Thing, are you still cooking for Uni?
Nice to see that Orb and Jonny are still around.
I was supposed to get back my Uni today from repair, but it's missing
Let's hope next Monday my friend give me good news.

Hey!
Great to see you around too!
I have not upgraded too as sending and receiving my Uni in México will be almost imposible due to customs
From what I´ve heard from Jonny upgrade it´s worth!
Hey Ultravox, good to see you're still active too.
I've come back to uni because the other devices I've tried (Kaiser and Magic) just can't compete for media playback, UI speed and flexibility.
I'm currently fiddling with a 128mb-specific build of 6.1, tuning the OS to make proper use of the additional RAM. I doubt I'll do a 6.5 ROM though, it just seems too slow and clunky to use on any hardware set.
My 128MB upgraded uni is now back (turned around in about 4 days). Total cost was £114 including VAT and courier to the south of England.
The phone's working fine, no issues with the upgrade so I'd urge anyone to give retronix a try.
They also do PCB repairs, so I bet they'd be able to fix a wonky USB port easily.

It's really cool to see all this guys around. it reminds me when I had time and patience to cook with THING, Tomal and Leo roms/kitchens.
Maybe I'll try to cook a rom for my HD, who knows.
Tomal as been missing from HD section. I sent him a PM asking for news and how it was but got no answer yet.
Next week I will get my Uni. Most probably I won't do the memory upgrade because of the cost, since it's my second device.
@ Simon, the repair was for free

Yeah I saw this picture is, the problem is that watching a video of how it is and there touched elsewhere on the board, except to the chips themselves, but here the picture shown above of chips Pins have to bi conected, here's the video link.
http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/Ym0seAAZuJc/
you can clearly see him solder the links together near the end of the video, I think the rest of the work is just cleaning the board ready to take the new chips and adding flux.
Thanks
Thanks for the quick response, you will copy the entire page and give it to people who will carry out this operation, the donor and is now waiting to go but all successful, as is understood in advance to install rom to support 128mb
Ok,
Is anyone willing to help me upgrade my Exec to either
256mb
or
128mb
I would be happyer to send off teh whole device in the case.. As i won not wont to damage the working...
