Best GPS software for BlackJack II? - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

I have a Blackjack II arriving in a few days and I'm wondering... I know the BJ2 has built in GPS (sans touch screen - but beggars can't be choosers) but I have heard that the built in GPS Nav software costs after the 30 day trial period. Is there any 3rd party GPS software that will work with this phone and have USA maps?
Thanks for any and all info

Im using Garmin Mobile XT. Its smartphone friendly. Unlike TomTom where key mapping is kinda jacked up and Fake Cursor is needed on some devices.

Check this website....its free

What version of Garmin XT you're using?
I have the latest one installed on my Samsung i600 and it has serious problems with the qwerty keyboard-detects it as a numeric keypad.

What About an SD CARD GPS ?!?

Hi guys,
any news on this side?
(I hope this is not a redundant topic... I've looked for in the topics' list, and seemed to me was missing)
I don´t know any sd-slot based gps-module.
Why you don´t use a serial connected gps?
If you want to use it in a car you need an gps near the windows or outside the car for a good satellite connection
regards
AleX
Hi Alex-Zero,
thank you for answering my question.
I'm actually looking for a more portable device, because I need to use it meanwhile I'm walking in the street.
That's why I'd prefer a "single" object, like a mobile phone with a slot in gps, and not a mobile phone wired to a periferal...
ciao ciao

Did you finally obtain a Pharos’ Pocket GPS Navigator SDIO and did it work ok with the XDA II. I am thinking of getting one and it would be good to know someone who has bought one and is pleased with it. Steve
Hi,
I'm sorry I didn't buy it yet. I sent to them an email, asking for information, regarding specifically the XDA II, but they didn't reply !!!
I will keep in touch if something would arise on this matter... will you?

If I buy one I will let you know if it works ok. At the moment I am undecided between Bluetooth GPS and the SD GPS. SD GPS will leave me with no memory expansion and Bluetooth is possibly still a problem although I believe that Towas has a patch that makes it work ok. If anyone is using Tom Tom Navigator 2 Bluetooth aith the XDA II and got it working OK, I would love to hear from them. Does anyone know if using a Bluetooth GPS will still allow use of a Bluetooth Handsfree Car Kit like the Parrot CK3000, at the same time i.e. using 2 Bluietooth devices witn the XDA II simultaneously?
Best regards Steve

Can someone confirm tomtom 7 for PDA

Currently I'm using tomtom 6, which I believe to be the best gps program around. However, the old maps are starting to annoy me and I have found a few big problems with them already. The new maps only work on tomtom 7, which has no pda version. With a search of all foruns, I found a post from two montsh ago (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1855454&postcount=3) where it says tomtom 7 will be released for sure for pda's. I really can't find any more information about this, can someone please confirm that tomtom will be released soon and I don't have to look around for other solutions?
As far as I know tomtom 7 wont be released for pda.
I have tomtom 7 on a pna and tomtom 6 on pda and believe me... the old navteq maps beat the living ***t out of the new teleatlas maps...
teleatlas maps are fine on big cities but when you go the small areas... street names are all switched, roundabouts where there are none...
it's just sad to see tomtom selling such piece of c**p maps when other pna/pda gps software is using navteq oldies that are far better...
what is a PNA ? im after tomtom 7 for my mates symbian 60 S3 phone, but cant even find it on the tomtom website
A PNA (Personal Navigation Assistant) is a dedicated navigation device. So it will not run WM (maybe at its base) but it's designed only to help navigate.
thanks alot
TomTom Navigator 7 WILL be released, however ...
It will be embedded in the ROM of new PDAs.
Luckily including Touch Diamond, so I would keep scanning XDA Developers for hacks ...
thats just dumb putting into the roms, as if no one is going to work out a way to seperate it!

That like saying you shouldn't lock your car because someone will find a way in.
I wonder if these new maps, that are no good, a being used because of TomTom's new "Reality View" feature.

Well there was an official product launch for the HTC diamond and HTC is not including Tomtom on the diamond. Rumours say that only the german O2 diamond will have tomtom included but there is no official statement for version 7.
Almost sure they don't release tomtom 7 for pda as they now have navcore 8 for pna. So if a new version is available it will most likely tomtom navigator 8 for pda.
Version upgrades for Tomtom :=)
see below ..
Version upgrades for Tomtom :=)
I believe the new version for PDA.s will be with us before X-Mas (in 3-4 month)
All those people who buy a dedicated device; have already. As tomtom has released
version 8 for their map-share and other technologies they need also need the feedback from the PDA guys and as HTC is rolling out so many new models they will possibly only release a version which runs on wm 6.1
i spoke to tech guy and he said something will be out in 3 month but we wait and see.
if anybody buys a htc diamond or new x75xx with mobile 6 (and the device has a gps ship )
please PM me as they normally ship tomtom tasters which might be the version 7 code..
otherwise I am running happy the tomtom v6.0xx with Windows Mobile 6.1 on a HTC 7500 and on a Kaiser which also has the ALK Product which ships from O2
regards
In Italy TomTom presented last version of Tomtom (for PDA) 2 weeks ago...
So I think we'll should be able to use it soon!
anybody an idea where we can find the latest version of tomtom for pda ????
(with Advanced Lane Guidance)
thanks
it's out
Tomtom 7 for PDA is out... but none got the crack yet

what to buy?

I currently have an eten m700 which I am very satisfied of, but the one thing that bugs me is the battery which is very weak and I`m getting kinda tired of it. I want to buy another pda or smartphone ( i also had a look at the blackberry bold) and I want a few suggestions. I want it to have phone, gps( i use igo a lot) wifi, BT, a good camera. Do you know what countries do the iphone maps or the blackberry maps have on their new terminals? And can these maps be used like i use igo.. ? thank you.

After owning a lot of Windows Mobile devices (Qtek 9100, Qtek S200 TyTn and Tytn II, Samsung SGH i600 and Samsung SGH i780 and Diamond Touch to name a few of them) I tried a Nokia E71 and wow what a smartphone - so stable and quick and the battery lasts for days. I don´t even miss the touchscreen. The camera is not very good, but at least as good on any camera in a Windows Mobile device except the Samsung Omina. So I can recommend it with all of my heart - will not be going back to Windows Mobile devices after using the Nokia for some weeks
is the gps usable on e71? i mean can i use it like igo on WM? and for what countries does it have maps?

I am running Garmin XT with maps of Europe, and then Nokia Maps wich has maps for a lot of countries

which the best GPS

I want to get a GPS software for my smartphone. I know there are tomtom, garmin, navigon etc. Which one is the best? Could anyone give me some suggestion?
After using Garmin XT, TomTom and Rt 66,
GARMIN wins for me, although they were all good I like some of the features of it better.
Just a personal choice though.
Which phone do you have?
Garmin and Tomtom both are good. You can choose the most suitable from these two if you can afford. If not, you can google some cheaper but still good GPS softwares to try. Good luck.
what about freeware gps softwares? any good options out there?
I have to say, that I am very pleased with Garmin XT! Everything works perfectly!

Nothing free is good. Some free gps is only the free trial and when you wanna use it for lifetime you have to pay. But I think there are also many free trial gps and you can google for them. Some worth buying.

[Q] Wi-Fi tethering? Custom keyboards? Sat-Nav software?

The HTC Titan has made my ears prick up a little. Its a pity it isnt a dual core cpu or a higher resolution.
Does WP7.5 support wifi-tethering?
Can you get custom keyboards, for example Swype?
Are there any (decent) free sat-nav apps out there? Google Navigation on Android is great but you need a data connection. I use Co-Pilot, especially when I go on holiday. Tom Tom was the best IMO on WM6.5.
I'm a big fan of 'free' apps, maybe someone could PM me more information on this topic
I'm sure I will have more questions! But I'm definitely interested in the Titan!
Does WP7.5 support wifi-tethering?
Mango should do but you have to change something at
HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing
Can you get custom keyboards, for example Swype?
No not realy just an app wich can write and where you can copy the text but yuo cant change the microsoft keyboard
Are there any (decent) free sat-nav apps out there?
No but Navigon is now aviable for Unlocked Devices.
And will be aviable soon with this prices:
NAVIGON for Europe: $119 - NAVIGON for the US: $49.99

Yes, Windows Phone 7.5 has WiFi Hotspot. Your carrier must enable tethering though.

"Turn by Turn Navigation" is $4.99 and is quite decent. If you want offline navigation, you'll have to buy Navigon (no exception).
WiFi hotspot is available on new unbranded models by default. On branded handsets if carrier enables it. On older upgraded devices no, until HTC updates this function at later stage according to their press release. That info only applies to HTC devices. I'm sure that the titans rom once out can be flashed to hd7 etc.
