Automatic Flash? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I got to playing with a friend's Blackberry tonight in a nightclub if all places and found that it's automatic flash helped make the mere 2.0mp camera shine in dark enviorments. My old Wizard doesn't have auto flash but a light per say. I was wondering for those that have Fuzes or TPs does the phone come with automatic flash or is it like a flashlight until you get out of the camera app?

nah, no automatic flash

Is there anyway to modify it to have an automatic flash?

It's only 2 screen taps to turn it on from the camera app. I'm sure with some clever ingenuity someone could figure out how to read the light sensor when the camera app is open and if it's below a threshold, turn the light on (if so desired). Maybe post an app bounty for such a thing?

When I bought this phone I knew it had a flash, but I was not aware that it was 'manual'. I had assumed it was like a normal camera flash.
I'm pretty annoyed at this fact myself, hopefully it is something can be worked around to be made automatic.

Turning off autofocus

Anyone know of a tweak for this? On my sprint TP it is automatically turned off if I take picture while on a phone call, so there must be an option somewhere to turn it off for good.
i would really like to know this as well

Strange that it gets turned off during a phone call. Can anyone else confirm this?
yeah i tried it during a call and it does get turned off during a call.
i want to turn it off because the autofocus takes so long. especially when i need to snap those quick pictures...
Same here, no autofocus during a phone call... I'm using original ROM.
I'm very interested too in a solution for that strange behavior.
I would like to know how to turn it off as well because it takes too long to snap the shot! Would be great if there was an option to turn it on or off!
May no be EXACTLY what you're looking for, but go in to camera->settings->advanced and on page 3, there's a Shoot Option. Change this to Full Press, and no more AF.

I have it at Full Press, but that still is auto focus. As soon as you hit it, you will see the camera try to focus on what ever you're trying to shoot before it actually takes the photo.
I too am curious as to how to turn it off.
there's gotta be like a registry tweak????? someone? anyone? haha

Even i m in dire need of this tweak........sometimes its impossible to get a good snap, bcos of the delay caused by auto focus.......
i was using UIQ 3 phone earlier, where a half press would lock the focus and full press will immediately click snap without a delay.....
can someone make sum tweal on similar lines
please someone. haha
BUMP.......
Turning off Auto Focus
Anyone help !!!!!!!!!

This is very odd. I guess that even HTC knew that the camera program was either not optimized or demanded to much resource so they cut off the autofocus mid call.
From my own experience, its really hard trying to figure out the system calls coming form the dialer, i dont think this is going to be an easy fix.

it would be nice if someone could do this? i would donate happily )
also id really like a auto lfash - which i think is in development
but this is a good idea as i agree it takes so long to focus that you hardly ever get a good shot
I'm interested in this. Have missed many pics due to the focus being so slow!
why does nobody want to reply to thread with an answer? strange seeing as there is so much demand
I use AutoFocus and have no delay in taking a picture.
If you have a delay in taking a photo just change the settings using the Advanced Configuration Tool. Under the camera options, capture delay should be disabled, key delay disabled and capture key delay set to zero.
Also, try this:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera/Captparam/
and set
CaptureTimer = 0 (old=5000)
Two more things to do - go into the camera advanced settings (in the camera itself) and turn off the click sounds and set the review time to no limit. With those changes above I think I have a working camera here...
While we're at it, if your photos are yellow change the white balance settings: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=951

[Q] Using camera flash as a flashlight possible?

I was just messing around with the LG QR Reader app, and I noticed it keeps the camera flash on while it scans in low light. And if you keep tapping the screen every few seconds, it'll stay on and can be used as a flashlight.
I was under the impression that it couldn't be done with wp7's? That the type of flash the phones have couldn't be kept open? Does this mean another coder could write an app that keeps that light open until the user turns it off?
Admittedly, the flash will "blink", or turn off for a half second ever 3 seconds or so. Maybe it has to do that to reset the flash allowance or something.
Thoughts?

Since you have a LG, not sure, but there's an app for HTC devices that does this, the flash can even stay on while video recording.
HTC FlashLight, of course use at your own risk & you need your device unlocked to side load.
Mango OS update is also releasing the API's necessary for 3rd party developers to access this. So far just the OEM's have access, and only HTC made an app using the led for a flashlight.

I was just at a U2 concert, and used the LG QR reader to activate the flash in lue of a lighter. I don't have a lighter, and everyone with one, the wind was blowing them out.
I think that once the proper camera API is rolled out with Mango, the flash will be accessable by developers, not just the manufacturer (like it is now).
I think the flashing that you noted is related to the camera thinking there is enough light to not need the flash. When I use it in the dark, it stayes on.

It is not usable on HTC mozart, because mozart using Xenon flash instead of LED...Furthermore,HTC is kinda abandon mozart and this app, they just stop update any of their apps.
If you switch to video mode you can turn on the light from there and it will stay on while you record. Just remember to delete the video afterwards...
There should be an app for that, available for ALL WP7 users.
At the moment only HTC users can use the LED flash as a flashlight.
If Samsung, LG, etc are unable to provide such a basic app mad, it shall be MS to provide it to all their customers.
Sweet guys thanks for the answers!
Even more reason to look forward to Mango
yu ca go to zune marketpalce there's a few flashlight's some are free.
Mango doesn't enable this. At least, there's no API I can see that directly supports turning the lamp on and off.

[Q] seeking specific camera (and other) functions

hello.
haven't been on this site for quite some time, but i am familiar with using custom roms.
i'm using an htc desire s with android 4.0.4, stock rom from htc site.
there are certain things i like about ICS, and other things that simply boggle me.
i've been considering using a custom rom again, but i was hoping someone could shed some light on specific features/functions.
in other words, i would be changing to a custom rom if one is available that has these features, otherwise i'll just leave it alone.
firstly: the camera.
when trying to take up-close photos (macro), the camera will attempt to focus, will succeed, then quickly snap back to being blurry. this happens less with "auto focus" turned off, but it's still frustrating (i can see the hardware moving the camera focus to where i want it, but i can't keep it there). turning on the Scene called "close up" will allow the hardware to stay in the focused range, where i want it, but it overrides the white balance, such that i can't adjust the white balance any more, and the colour is always -always- different from the colour settings in the "auto" Scene setting. very frustrating indeed.
that's problem one.
but the bigger problem (with the camera) is:
when taking a photo where a flash is required/desired (in low lighting), i have to take many -many- photos before i happen to roll the dice and get one in focus. basically, holding up the camera to the darkened scene, the screen is mostly dark. i can take a photo with the flash, but the camera uses the same moment of flash to implement the focus, which is essentially entirely useless. in other words: dark scene, dark screen, flash ready, click to take a photo, flashtrytofocustakepicture = blurry picture. the picture only turns out well if the focus happens to catch in just the right way at the right time.
in contrast, while the stock camera app behaves this way, when i use google goggles, the camera behaves differently. there is a simple button which turns the led light on and off BEFORE taking a picture, which means the focus can function normally on a fully lit scene and then a picture can be taken, in focus. funny thing about that: the photo result that shows as a preview (immediately after snapping a photo in google goggles) is the desired photo, however it is not the photo that the app recognises nor which is saved on the sd card. anyhow, that's a different issue.
the point is: it seems clear to me that the hardware is capable, and the software is capable, but they have not been married correctly in 4.0.4.
would anyone be able to confirm whether another rom or camera app has the macro and light-before-focus capabilities described above?
i have some other questions about the way text copy and paste is implimented, but i'll just stick with the camera question for now.
thanks in advance for any information.

[Q] question on disabling front sensor, screen blanking ...

Hello all ... I'm sure this is a simple question ...
My wife has a stock d2vzw with 4.3 installed. The proximity sensor next to the front-facing camera seems extra sensitive; anytime a stray object/finger crosses it's path the screen turns off. My guess is this is a power-saving feature whenever the phone is turned over or placed in pocket, etc. However in my case, it is just super annoying and I would like to disable it. (in contrast, my CM10.2 d2vzw doesn't seem do this by default)
Can someone point me to the option needed (in stock 4.3) to disable this, or perhaps extend the time so that it doesn't black the screen instantly? I've poked through most of the menus and can't seem to find it ....
Thanks

You can't disable the sensor with stock rom. The sensor is either on (value 5) or off (value 0) so there's no time setting for this. You have to be rooted in order to disable the sensor. Some technical people reported that they have take the phone apart and clean it, but if the sensor is defective, you either replace it or disable it. Also you can download an app called proximity sensor finder and test your sensor, open the app and wave your hand over it, you should see the value changes from 5 (not cover) to 0 (covered).
Thanks, I'll try it out.
However, is there a setting somewhere that will simply disable the feature of blanking the screen based on the proximity sensor?
With this same phone, I don't think I ever observed the annoyance with 4.1.2 .... it looks like the sensor/blanking is either something new in 4.3 or perhaps some default value/option was reset when the phone was upgraded.
Thanks!

Do a factory reset. The ota has a lot of side effects if you do not reset.

[Q] Can't focus macro with flash

The photon's camera is killing me. I can't take macro pictures in shady conditions. This is what happens when I'm trying to take that picture.
-I'm aiming on some surface/object (shady and close).
-Camera sets exposure to brighten the picture.
-I'm tapping the area to focus.
-Flash turns on.
-In split second camera is blinded by flash and aborts focus.
Please someone tell me there is some tweak to make camera wait with flash. I tried many camera apps but only solution I found was constant flash in e.g Camera FV-5. But i'm not satisfied with that.
For example my Samsung Xcover 2 is turning flash on, changes the exposure to not be blinded and focus like a charm.
That is why I use "Focal" as my camera app.
You can turn on the "flashlight" and then focus.
I have never found a similiar good app (focal is not perfect but it is ok) with that "feature".

There is e.g. "Camera FV-5", "lgCamera" and "A Better Camera" with this feature. You can try them and compare with Focal. But me, as I said, I'm not satisfied with that
Thx for the little list.
Anyway, I don't have a better way of focusing.
Maybe this is (also) controlled by the ROM?
It may be possible to add the same procedure like in the Samsung Xcover 5.
(Not for me but for the developers of CM.)
