Hi,
once and a while my TP does not awake after pressing the on/off switch. The device does not react anymore and a soft reset is necessary to get the device to run again. Any solutions for this irritating behaviour??
thnx, Kuzibri
Same thing happened to me after I charged it this morning.
I had it happen twice in the first two days... haven't figured out why though.
Just switched off T3F to see whether this coorects the problem!
switching of TF3D corrected the problem. Trying other "shell-based" programs (SPB Mobile Shell - Winterface) did not produce this "awakening" problem, but neither program comes near the TF3D, although both programs go deeper into WM 6.1. So, either I have to stick to a relatively unreliable TF3D or disable it and wait for another upgrade from HTC or another, yet to be developed, new shell replacing program
i had this problem too...i think it has something to do with the power button. if you turn off key lock under settins>system>key lock (do not lock buttons)
you can wake it using any button. this has stopped my pro from not waking at least for 1 day so far
I had the Standby of Death SOD this is when the phone fails to come out of standby with a power button press. This issue only affects some people on some networks. I'm not sure if its a network problem or a software problem but as only a minority of people have it, I suspect its mainly a network problem there is a software solution.
The solution is to change the phone settings band option from auto 3G/2G to either 3G Only (WCDMA + UTMS 2100 in Europe) or 2G Only (GSM + AUTO) depending on your requirements.
Also read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540943&highlight=standby&page=2where the resolution was to get a new SIM.
Obviously this only solves the problem when the crash is because of the sim and/or settings which impact the sim. To rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset.

Greetings,
I just upgraded to the 2.02.00 ROM last night but still have the occassional lockups. I need to do a soft reboot to get the phone to respond. I believe when it locks up, the radio is still running since I see the blinking Green LED for the GSM. I have to switch off the POWER MANAGEMENT option of "Turn off in x min in not used" for battery power to be able to use the device for calls. The only level of battery saving I am stuck with now is the Backlight auto-off and the beam settings.
Is this something others are having as well or are any applications the culprit?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Regards

I can confirm this behavior on my MDA Pro (G3).
All ROM versions the same like Bhameed's on my MDA, ...except bootloader of course.
Anyone else noticed this on 2.02.00?
Hold on, can you guys be more specific with this? Are you absolutely sure it doesn't come back on when you PRESS AND HOLD the power button??? Really sorry if I sound like I'm being pedantic, but just from what you've written it sounds like you don't know how to turn on the phone???
hahahaHAHAHA!!! awesome reply spyder
ok, yeah i was thinking this is an issue of not being able to turn on your phone.
yeah what's going on that was different from before?
There have been only few moments where you think "Surely not"... I hate those moments, I'm just hoping this isn't one of them! If it is a genuine problem it's pretty serious and needs to be addressed, but if not.... well, I don't think I should say much more
Please please please say this is all a big joke. I'm tired, please excuse me.
I confirm this behaviour!
And more!
My Qtek freezes... freezes... and then PUFFF. Dead.
I wait some minutes (30 minutes) and I can turn it on again.
I'll send it to qtek.
Mine has a thing sometimes where there will be a pause between pressing the power button and it coming to life... sometimes if I get impatient and press the power button again it will turn it back off before it's come on.
I don't really get it though. Does it freeze while it's still on, or while it's turned off? If it freezes when on, there's plenty of info about how to prevent freezes (mostly 3rd party apps + reg tweaks).
If it really does freeze when off, then please let us know anything more on the issue that you can.

Mine freezes everywhere. Bootscreen, Pin code menu (when u type your pin). It depends.
then pda doesn't turn on.
Many problems.
Just go to the assistance. :\
1.Sometimes it freezes while its on. For Instance I had program opened and then whenI tried pressing X to close nothing happened. I had to use the red hardware button to close. Wonder why.
2.I too agree while the phone boots and is searching for network, it takes very long, Meanwhile when the pin enter screen come up, unless the network is fully searched one cannot enter the sim pin code, it has few freezes. or at time the phone signal icon disappears on top bar and again you need to reset the phone.

Again, I don't have this problem for some reason... I get very few freezes at all.
I think we're getting away from the original point of the post though... and normal freezing is well documented in most OS threads with means to prevent it.
Same here...Confirmed. Tried all button combinations to get the display back (short presses and long ones), but then end up having to do a soft-reboot to finally get the phone to work properly....

And then you don't have other problems? Like freezes?
EDIT: I flash the original rom but the problem still here
I wonder if this could be a memory leak like someone suggested.... I'm sorry guys, I haven't experienced this problem, and I haven't seen any posts about it until this thread, is there any chance you guys with this issue can keep an eye over your memory status over say a couple of days to see if there's a leek and keep us posted? Once we find out what the problem is it should make a solution easier.
I experienced this problem as well using a cooked WM5 ROM on my HERM200 the only fix I found was migrating to another ROM. I'm currently using CUSTEL_Cing_v1.3, the battery life sucks but I love WM6, it is so much faster, I'm still tweaking and trying to resolve some other issues but other than that I am quite happy with it.
If you are experiencing the lockup I would suggest moving to another ROM as an option, that worked for me. Although a clean install usually fixes a lot of problems.
I have just one issue after switching to Windows Mobile 6 (at first "Faria real thing", now "Crossbow Reloaded"). Sometimes the phone behaves as if the sound was switched off.
I read various discussions about which radio ROM is better etc. for not missing calls, but I guess it is not that problem. The call gets through (so I guess radio rom is ok). When having the phone in such state, I checked it by calling from the fixed phone on my desk - the call got through, there was message on the display that somebody is calling (just the ring was silent).
Once in such situation I tried to switch on/off the phone application - no change. The one thing which seems to cure it reliably is to go to the phone settings (I usually try the ringing tone I use - it works ok - and press ok). Afterwards it is normal (the phone rings).
I have not found yet any pattern when this happens... Is it possible that the phone somehow loses setting (about the set ringing tone, or about volume) and it is fixed by going to phone settings?
Has anybody else such experiences?
Othewise I am happy with WM 6 (especially I like "Internet Sharing", quicker booting and the fact that when running "Opera Mini" in "Midlet Manager" it no longer ignores hardware soft keys). Just this think is a bit of nuisance.
Mirek
I've seen this a few times myself, and yes, just playing your ringtone via the Phone Settings will fix this issue. I can say that I haven't seen this issue in some time, and thats since I stopped using the press & Hold of the CommManager button (upper left side of the phone) to switch my phone in and out of Vibrate mode. I used to use that to do a quick switch and it seemed sometimes after coming back out of vibrate mode, this issue would happen (not always, but a few times). I've now quit using that button that way and I don't think I've had the non-ring issue since.
Thanks you for the information, I will try it. It may have been the problem with that button - I mapped there task manager which I use often and pressed it sometimes a bit longer...

i think we did all sort of upgrading and hacking for the kjam, and one of the most annoying problem no one did find its solution till now.
the dead sleep screen.
for who dont know what i'm talking about, i mean by "dead sleep screen" when the device after some minutes of ur choice turn the backlight off, u expect to turn backlight on again by pressing either any button, or touching the screen or the power on, but nothing will light the screen again, and when the device go in standby mode and turn off the screen, same issue no key and no screen touch will wake it up again.
i faced this problem in almost most of the roms, and to be clear:
NO OVERCLOCKING SOFTWARES ARE USED
NO ADDITIONAL SOFTWARES ARE USED
RADIO 2.19 WICH IS PERFECT
last time i flashed my device to the new new tnt5 rom, expecting a solution for this problem but this time the problem is getting more annoying and present each time.
please if anyone have a solution, a patch file, a registrytweaking, let us know as this problem is the most killer for the device, u cant imagine that 10 calls are missed and u cant hear the ring of ur phone just because of its hibernation.
P.S.: i saw some time ago a patch file for the jasjam or jamin called "auto suspend patch" anyone tried if it's effective, and if it work on kjam, or maybe the experts have a more solid solution.
thanks for all ur support and help
Starting from ROMs using OS 5.2.1413 and changing the PagePool to 12MB, I never has the Sleep of Death problem now.
I used Underground 3.0 and now NBD 8.2 WM6 ROM, with IPL and SPL 3.08, Radio 2.69.11.
Warning.
Please try not to double post threads anymore.
I've never experienced (nor heard of) this "sleep of death" problem. When the backlight dims (but the wizard is still on) i can light it up again by pressing any key (or tapping anywhere). When the phone goes in standby, instead, i can only use the power button to start it again.
Things have been this way since the first time i bought the phone, with every rom, in any language.
@ anichillus:
sorry for that, didnt know that i have a double post, it happened accidently when i had a down connection then i refresh and resend the page, weird i think it shouldnt post it as second thread.
@risidoro:
i think u r more than lucky man, i know a lot of pplz facing this sleep from time to time, the way they missed some calls, and pplz think that they are away them.
@starkwong:
please can u tell me the easiet way to up the page pool from 6 to 12, maybe a packtool?
P.S.: i tried the followings in order to fix the sleep death screen
1- REMOVING THE SD CARD, SOFT RESET (DIDNT WORK)
2- REMOVING THE NON OVECLOACK BATTERY, CLEAN REGISTRY, SOFT RESET (DIDNT WORK)
3- CHARGED BATTRY, RESETTING THE BACKLIGHT SETTINGS (DIDNT WORK)
4- INSTALLING THE (AUTO SUSPEND PATCH) THIS FILE WORKS, AND TILL NOW I DIDNT FACE IT AGAIN, WILL CONTINUE CHECKING AND TESTING, TO SEE HOW MUCH THIS PATCH FILE IS EFFECTIVE FOR THE DEATH SLEEP.

No problem, i was suspecting that
To change page pool size, I recommend using the Wizard Service Tool.

How exactly do you power down a Universal other than removing the battery? The "power" button only dims or switches off the display. Is there a way to make it really switch off the device?
PDA's running Windows Mobile are not designed to be powered off.
You can turn off all radio (wireless, GSM, BT), you can turn off the screen, but you can't actually turn off the device itself.
This is to keep your tasks and calendar running, otherwise it wouldn't make sense, as you could forget to turn on your device to be altered to a scheduled event.
But yes, it can be a pain. In my case, I own several phones running Windows Mobile and what I do is to periodically recharge them.
Failing to do so could in my opinion harm the built-in battery designed to keep essential data alive, when you swap your battery.
If you want to store your device for a long period (months or years), you should consider removing the main battery. Still you can suffer from a leaking internal battery. Don't quote me on this, though.
I prefer to recharge unused devices every month at least.
Cheers,
vma
Incorrect. PDAs running WM can be switched off
and you can turn the entire device off. There are ROMs that include the power off option that will turn the device off completely. I think the proggie is called PC Shut Off, have to find the exact name. I have the shut off function on my Elf and Wizard shuts off just fine. You get a warning that you may lose any unsaved info etc.
For longer storage options take the battery out.
Who wants to turn off their Uni!!!?
I have never turned off in 4 years, never!
If I dont want to recieve a call: Ignore
If I dont wanna hear sound: mute
If I dont want to have any comms on: I turn it off
Just my opinion...
Powering down the Universal
I have owned and still own several WM devices. The Uni remains the only one I cannot power down. When you press and hold the power button on the Touch Pro, it powers down after a prompt. The same with Advantage, and the TyTN 2, all of which I still own. Indeed, the Uni is the only WM device I have used (and still use) which uses what should be the power-down function to dim the display - a totally useless function in my view!
By the way, on many flights, you are told to completely switch off all electronic devices - not just put them on "flight" mode, during take-off and landing. With a Uni, how do you comply?

I simply turn off all comms and push the off button! that´s it
And any plane has going down doing this, and I travel a lot!
Nothing happens believe me
psShutXP
@enigma1nz I think you mean psShutXP. I tested it. When I use the option "Turn off" the device is in normal "sleep-mode".

Many of us know that these days planes do not crash because there is a mobile phone that is not switched off. But I am talking about compliance with instructions. I still believe it is a design flaw in the Universal. I have been hoping someone would cook a ROM that makes the power button to really power down, but it seems none as yet.
Earlier devices doesn't support complete power off because of the HW design. But you can do it in latest devices.
Just think about the power supply model of AT and ATX PC's...
I've searched for this one but can't find any mention of it...
I'm finally switching back to an o2 Serra / Touch Pro after they finally admitted to having some in stock again! (Not through sales channels though, and it took a five page letter complaining about their Customer Service!).
Anyway, over the last 3 months I've had to make do with an SE xPeria X1.
The one thing about the X1 (other than the WVGA screen) that I preferred with the X1 was that you could hit the power button to turn the screen off and ActiveSync (and therefore MyMobiler) would stay connected. Nice!
Is there any way to make the Touch Pro do the same?
Cheers,
FM

Find a program that only shuts the screen off like HandyMenu.
The power button puts the phone in standby.
I use Pocket controller to view the phone on my PC and use Haandy Menu to turn off the screen.
Is there much difference in power consumption between standby and just screen off?
What I'm thinking is, is it a good idea to change the function of the power button (I know there are tools to do that) to only switch off the screen in normal use as well or am I going to just make the short battery life more of an issue?
Cheers,
FM
I might have missed the point here, but why would you only want to turn the screen off in normal use?
I can understand not wanting the screen on (in line of sight) if its in a cradle syncing all day, but unless you're wanting to have programs running & working all day (gps mapping something i guess) i cant see any advantage.
Finally, i'm not sure if you can unmap the power button, you can almost certainly re-map it, but that may not remove the original function (i cant test today, mine's off for repair).

I've often wondered the same thing. My phone sits on ActiveSync all day at work with the screen un-necessarily on. There has to be a fix other than a paid application...
Essentially I'd like to replicate the power button function of the SE X1 on the Touch Pro.
The X1 seems to only power off the screen rather than going into standby - ie all apps keep running, bluetooth and wifi stay connected etc.
This means that when the phone is connected using MyMobiler or similar the screen can be off as I am displaying the screen contents on my PC screen.
Rather than having a seperate function to switch the screen off (I'm going to try EdgeWat PocketPC Utils for that), it would be nice if the power button could be mapped to just switch the screen off.
My concern is that if I swap the functionality of the power button (their do seem to be a few apps that allow you to re-assign the power button funtion) I won't just be using it this way when the phone is connected to a PC, I will ALWAYS be just switching the screen off. So, when I am out and about would doing this cause a big increase in battery drain?

And I would guess this functionality must be possible in software as it seem the Pandora client does it when you are running it:
