FM Radio on Sprint Touch Pro/Diamond - Touch Pro, Fuze General

So thus far there is no FM radio cab on the Touch pro from sprint.
If you are interested in the sprint diamond, there is a fix for that in the diamond forums both here and at ppcgeeks.
If you are interested in a fix for the Fuze:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2692292&postcount=204
from what i under stand that works..

I don't think there is a rom out there yet for the Sprint Touch Pro - it's a CDMA phone so none of the existing roms will work on it (I assume?).

Any luck with this anyone

no luck
Just loaded the cab i found in one of the threads. installed on my sprint touch pro and loaded fine. but would not play. I think they removed the hardware.

Did you have headphones plugged in? On the Fuze I had to install the cab and plug the headphones in before the program would run because it uses the headphones as an antenna.

yeah i plugged them in. it did say i needed to do it before hand but no luck, just shows that little colorful circle waiting icon. I assume it is searching for a signal or something and then will just sit there and nothing works. Maybe that is why the unit is a smidge smaller than the gsm version.

Same thing here, app installs fine but doesn't do anything.

same here but how about the headphones with built in fm radio antenna has anyone tried those and see if it works?

It shouldn't matter. On the Fuze I just plugged in a pair of iPod earbuds and the FM radio worked great.

Don't want to kill the buzz, but my understanding is that Sprint took it a step further than AT&T and neutered the phone to remove the radio chip so there is no software solution...

I don't think so. They took the same exact hardware that AT&T did except that the mold is different (appearance). It is probably only restricted by software. Try installing the cab for the fm radio. It could possibly work.

I installed the cab and it wouldn't work on my sprint touch pro.

I installed the FM Radio App on my Touch Pro and, with the headphones plugged, the app starts, waits for a little bit, and then I get an "Unspecified Error".
Do we know for a fact that the FM circuitry has been removed? Is there a driver that needs to be installed in Windows Mobile? Could the radio be re-enabled via a change in the firmware?

It could be the FM Radio is specific to the GSM versions of the phone. But we need a tech person to prove that.

im curious to see what the answer to this question is. i would like to have fm radio in conjunction to my sirius subscription

I wouldn't say that. Along with changing from GSM to CDMA cellular radios they could have changed virtually anything. At this point there is no telling wether the hardware is present or not. I'd love an FM radio on my Sprint Pro, but I'm not too optimistic.

I wanted the radio, too. But as a pratical matter, I doubt it would have worked too well unless you were right on top of the station. I find I can listen to most of the radio I want using Kinoma's media guide. It's wonderful. I'm still hoping someone discovers a way to activate the radio. How ignorant of Sprint to disable it.....

Why is it always SOMETHING with every Sprint phone? Why do they always have to disable something? What good does it do them to disable the FM radio?

Well thats a no brainer there bud...if we all had the FM Radio working thanks to this new HTC Product..then Sprint would get there ass kicked in regards to their sprint store with the music downloads and all... It takes from their profitasbility for us to have the Built in FM Radio functioning.

Can I have your radio ? ;-)

Hi,
I recently bought a Kaiser. I think it's great. Only thing missing is an FM radio. Or is it?
I think it's accurate to say that the only real difference between the Kaiser and the Polaris is the keyboard. They have the same Qualcomm chipset, same amount of memory, the lot. So why then does the Polaris have an FM radio and the Kaiser does not?
Does anybody know if anybody has attempted to "lift" the radio programs out of the Polaris for testing in the Kaiser?

Kaiser is supposed to be a "Professional" device and FM Radio is not one of it's features.

This is not possible because it is not only software but mostly hardware issue.

Hey, I'm a "professional" and I want a radio ;-)

Ok, but as far as I know the hardware is identical, so this means it should just be missing software.
Hmm..
Just because the chipset and memory is identical, doesnt mean the rest of the hardware is identical.
Anyways.. I think O2's version of the Kaiser has radio. Go check it out.
yeah fm radio require a whole different radio chip compared to gsm
software is not enough to change it so gsm/umts at <800Ghz and are digital start recieving analog signals at around 100Ghz

Ο2 is identical to Kaiser... which means that this was a mistyping error. O2 version does not have FM radio and most sites have corrected their previous posts.

Understood, but do you remember when the Trinity (aka 3600) was updated after launch with GPS? It had GPS all the time, but it wasn't activated on the original models.
I know the Polaris and Kaiser have the same hardware and only appear to differ with the keyboard. So if GPS can be activated on the Trinity, why not FM Radio on the Kaiser?
I'm assuming the FM on the Polaris is not built in to the headset ...

Oh dear
This is the first time I heard that there are actually hardware differences that would prevent FM radio functionality from being available on the Kaiser. It sounds like you know what you are talking about - I assumed that the Qualcom chipset that is common to both would mean FM radio was possible on the Kaiser. Does the Polaris have a different or upgraded chipset to the Kaiser or does the FM radio come from additional hardware?
Go on, I can handle the truth (albeit with considerable difficulty ...)
the radio only seem to work when the headset is connected
meaning that it use the headset wire as antenne which mean
that even if the fm radio was in the cpu not having wireing to an
antenna would mean that it could not recieve radio

I think all FM-equipped phones work like this. A friends 3300 has a headset just like my Kaiser. So no problems having to use the supplied headset then.
So, if not in the Qualcomm 7200 and not in the headset, just where is the FM?
a phone have more components then it's main cpu and the headset
if you look in the various wiki's for devices where they are opened
it's full of various IC's
if Qualcomm 7200 is not spec'd as having fm radio on Qualcomm's site
htc put another fm radio chip on the pcb to handle the fm radio
fm radio is a pretty old teck so i would understand why Qualcomm would not put too much work into having it on chip
Exactly!!!

Look, I know I'm sounding desperate here, but you do say if. I have actually looked at the schematics for the 7200 but there is so much detail, it's impossible for me to see if/where FM radio functionality might be lurking.
So, do we know for a fact that FM radio is not part of the 7200? (Forgive my pedantic questioning - I'm desperate! ;-))
cant say 100% but all the techs are listed and fm is not so i would guess another chip is used

I had a look and it's an interesting device, but ...
No screen interface, station selection a bit bit and miss
Bigger than just headphones
I already have a Jabra wireless for car use, so this is overapping functionality
(my biggest issue)It needs it's own seperate power supply for recharging purposes. I'm big into convergence (that's why I bought the Kaiser!) so this is a no no
Some progress on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355524&page=210#2095
Now, it's not working. Yet.
Anyone have any comments on the possibility of the Polaris headset having something in it that the Kaiser's doesn't - & thus preventing the FM application from working in Kaiserland?
The thing is, I still find it hard to understand why HTC would change or add to the hardware of the Polaris just to get FM working - especially when the target audience for the 2 devices cannot be that different. Surely there is a big cost to make any mods on a standard platform?
But of course, this could simply be wishfull thinking on my side

[Jan 11] Public Call For helping To Get FM Radio to work for kaiser [ Cab Available]

Ok as the heading stated we just need some people to test this radio especially if they have another device with built in Radio.
I Have managed to extract it from a Polaris Rom and compiled it into a cab.
So far it install ok [ Multimedia Folder] When activated it ask for headset to be plugged in [ this is why I believe its has to do with the Headset ] But nothing happens when the kaiser headset is plugged in.

Possible
Have a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=338238 it discusses the fact the Polaris and Kaiser have the same Chipset which in theory could support FM radio.
Typically, for a phone to work as an FM radio, the wired headset has to be plugged in to act as the antenna. Bluetooth headsets won't work, as there's no cable to receive the radio signal.
Similarly, if the usb port on the phone isn't wired up to the FM radio hardware inside, it's never going to receive a signal either.
I don't think anything's going to come of this, but I commend Dutty for trying.

Would it be possible that the Polaris has another chip for FM? I dunno just a wild guess. I want FM too, but it doesn't make sense that it doesn't work. I just let my friend borrow my Tilt (he's going out of town and needed GPS); so I'm unable to test at the moment, but will do when I get it back. Since I got a Tilt it didn't come with a headset, but I have one of those extUSB to female 3.5mm things from eBay that I've been using with my Trinity. We'll see how it goes.

Having read the thread the both use the same chipset and no-one can see an extra chip for FM. It's way above my head though. . I imagine you need to get the radio to recognise the antenna and all should work... Dutty...?
Another Possibilty is that its dependant on a specific Rom Radio like before with gps

AT&T Fuze

I've had TONS of PM's recently (12 in the 3 days I was in VT) so I wanted to clear some things up and answer a few questions.
1) ROM DUMP... The ROM incognitho posted is the one on my Fuze, same radio and everything. If that doesn't give you 3G, no ROM/radio will.
2) MMS... Your Raphael automatically obtains the same settings as mine for MMS, if it doesn't work, fix it through AT&T.
3) Software/hardware capabilities... The G-sensor calibrator, FM radio and TV out all function completely after the software was installed. Thanks to sub69 and schaps.
Any more questions so my PM box stops overflowing?
Keep negativity elsewhere as I'm already on thin ice, I'll answer anything I can but once the mudslinging starts this thread is gone.
I'm afraid that black may be right on the 3g in the US. If his rom & radio don't give the UK touch pro 3g in the states, I really don't know what else can be done to open it up as that rom/radio do enabe the 3g on his touch pro. I really do hope I'm wrong as I currenly have a UK touch pro in the US but when the fuze comes out I know I will have no problem selling it and I'll just get the Fuze. It's a shame because I think I would like the layout of the UK keyboard better than the Fuze. Only time will tell I guess.
Well, I can't say I know that the hardware is different (nix the keyboard/camera/etc), but I do know my phone works flawlessly on 3G/HSPA with the currently available radio/ROM. I'm sorry to hear people have tried this with no success, as that means many people have wasted a grand for no 3G. :-(

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that the Snapdragon processor supports the FM tuner but the software does not... If you were able to flash a custom kernel that supported it then it should work no problem. It's just that Google doesn't like FM tuners for some reason... same problem that the Nexus 4 had.

I am not 100% of where I can reference this, but I am a BIG FM radio listener during college football season, and when this was last brought up I believe the issue is that the hardware, while present, is hard coded OFF in the firmware by Verizon.
No amount of modding can turn it on, short of unlocking the bootloader.

My point exactly. You would have to flash a modified kernel that supports FM tuning. I think a lot of it has to do with the Google Play Music store and their online radio stations that they offer.

I have a portable HD radio and iPad nano that both handle FM nicely. But I would love to only have to carry one device.
I just hate that Big Red continues to cripple devices to push data driven services, and then cap the data. I mean, they are making money hand over fist, but it's still annoying.
this is an old thread, but since we are now bootloader unlockable, is this FM radio thing a possibility?
