Get rid of the email preview envelope?? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I know that I've seen a post (either on this forum or the Diamond one) for removing the envelope in the email preview screen in TF3D. But I saw the post before I got my Fuze and now I really want to get rid of that envelope and can't find the post!
Does anyone else know where this info is or how to do it? I swear I have tried searching but I haven't been able to find it.

Try to un-enable TF3D first, then delete "hh_email_envelope_down.png" and "hh_email_envelope_up.png"

I would check the windows directory... dont quote me on it, but thats the first place i would check

And of course you will need some enhanced windows explorer like total commander or resco explorer to view hidden/system files and to modify rom-files.

file explorer shows all files just click menu 3rd from the top, Show All Files.

i dont think that will work - to my knowledge the built in file explorer won't let you touch files in ROM
Also if you delete these files wont they come back when you restart the device?

Kris, AFAIK you're right twice. But it could be possible replacing the original files with empty ones using Total Commander or some other advanced file explorer. Would be interesting what happens then (but not interesting enough for me to try it myself though )

Not everything of course but files which are stored in the ROM do. They can not be changed, deleted or what so ever but with an enhanced file explorer like total commander or resco explorer you can sort of "replace" those files with a modified version. But again. The original isn't really replaced. Your version will be stored in the RAM and "overrules" the file in the ROM. But if you later on decide to revert back to the original file you just have to delete your modified RAM-file and after a soft-reset the ROM file will be back/visible again.

yea in ROM i meant ...
and instead of replacing the files with an "empty file", it would prob be safer to replace them with a 1x1 totaly transparent png

Thanks for the help and advice but I can't find those files even with resco and total commander. Guess I'll keep searching for that original thread...

The programs structure is built by the initflashfiles.dat. You might check there for that folder. Open it with notepad and remember to just click "save" not "save as". And then open it with winhex or any other hex editor and remove the first 2bytes "FFFE"
The "About" version you could change in the default.hv, but convert it to default.rgu before that and don't forget to add "REGEDIT4" without quotes in the first line and leave the last line empty. Then convert it back to .hv
didn't I answer that for you on aim?

Unistalling cooked programs in ROMs

I know that the prograns cooked by the chefs in their ROMs can't be uninstalled by simple going do the "Remove Programs" button on the Settings part of the ROM.
I want to know if there is a way to uninstall some programs cooked in the ROMs BEFORE flashing them into Kaiser...
Is there any program that can easily do this?
Is it safe?
Can it be done without major knowlowedge of the cooking/programming processes?
Since I use the ROMs in Brazil, some of the programs that usually comes cooked in the ROMs are pretty much uselles here (e.g., that one that "reads" the name of the contact that's calling).
Usually I just disable then, but it is kind of a waste of space leaving them there without using.
I would like to know the answer as well

Hi there,
I would use a ROM Image Editor software.
Search for htcRIE_0.4.0.51.exe. open the .nbh file and you will see all the
files included in the ROM. Some files you can delete without having to worry about anything. Give it a try.
I don't take any responsibility if you modify/delete files and it breaks your phone.
Good Luck.

Thank you! I'll look for it.
But the chance of breaking the phone is relevant? I mean, why deleting some third party app files prevent me from flashing another ROM later, if anything goes wrong?
I don't want to deal with anything related to the OS itself, just eventual softwares installed, like MS Voice Command or RSS Hub.
If the only way is to delete file by file I'm note too sure if it is worth the work...
I honestly toought that there was a program that you could open the .nbh file and it would show the installed prograns and the option to remove them.

not worth the work???? what work??? u open the nbh file, u select the file, and u delete it. much less work than actually recooking the rom.
i use htcrie all the time, and i've screwed up many many times. If u screwed it up, and deleted something that you shouldnt......then just start again from a copy of the original and make sure u dont delete it.
or, the 'easy' way (and most chefs provide this) is to flash a 'lite' or 'naked' version of the rom series, then add the crap you DO want. or, download a kitchen and cook your own!

But I believe that most of these programs are not in one simple file... Or are they?
I though that the process of deleting the files would implie deleting ALL the files related to the program.
Some of them put files in the '/Windows' folder, '/My Documents' folder and so on...

Well, first of all, not every chef makes naked ROMs. Second, I usually DO want 90% of what comes in the ROMs, and want to delete one or two programs. So, flashing naked ROMs to install EVERYTHING else is a option that I don't want do consider...
About cooking a ROM, I would do it if I have the time to learn everything about it. Since I can't do it with the knolowedge I have and don't have enought time to learn it all, I'm tryng to find one alternative that can solve my problem.
so you delete ALL the files associated with that program then.

Hehehe... Don't even joke about it!
As I said, I just want to delete SOME files of THIRD PARTY softs. I'm going to stay the hell away of any file related to the OS itself.
And I really can't see why this could brick my device... Since any problem will occur only in the ROM itself, I'll probably be able to reflash another ROM...
I wanted to cook a ROM myself, in portuguese and with the programs I use, but I just don't have enought time right now to do this...

Get a M2D .cab and crack it open with WinCe Cab Manager or the likes and you will be able to see.

Where are the files ?

Hi guys, I have this ambition to change the symbols in call history with ones that are colored.
I know that for this some Manila files should be changed, but I don't know where to start the search and what exactly to look for, so any advises would be more than appreciated. thanks
Hi there, files you're looking for are into windows directory, unfortunatly are marked as "read only" and the easiest way to replace them using Resco Explorer. Althought you can find .cab file here here.
Installing this you can keep original files into backup folder end restore when needed.
Bye
The cab is also on XDA forum but it replace the icons on phone menu not in the history...so I assume that the file for history is another one...this file I'm looking for but don't know how to find it...
You have to find and change some graphic file in windows directory. I'm using dutty's R5 so can't help you better.
Those files are located in phcanOverbmp.dll

Big problem after ROM update! Can't delete systen files anymore! Please help!

I flashed my HD2 to the newest official ROM and i discovered that it's not possible to rename and/or delete system files like manila files anymore!
Why is this??
With my old ROM i could rename manila files to *.bak and then delete them using Total commander but with the new ROM this isn't possible! I'm really desperate, I don't know what to do!
Could it be that HTC made the new firmware more secure?
Any solutions???
I found out that I can't copy my welcomehead to the windows folder anymore...it just wouldn't let me...
there has to be a registry entry somewhere, just can't find it at the moment.

Rename your new welcomehead from welcomehead.192 to welcomehead.193 and copy it into the windows folder. Then use the Advanced Configuration Tool 3.3 (it needs MS Framework 3.5 to be installed to work) and go to Splash Screen. There you have to click the first green entry and change the path from windows/welcomehead.192.png to windows/welcomehead.193.png. Then Softreset. Now you have a new welcomehead, even with new ROM. Have fun!

Make it the way i told you, you don't have to change something in the windows folder to have a new startup screen.
^I did it and it worked great. thanks
But there are some other issues...for example if you want to enable navi panel or hidden games you need to copy some files into the start menu folder but that is not possible because the ROM won't let you.
any solution for the others?

Help with Changing Clocks CHT

I'm trying to change the analogue clock on my HD2 but it won't change from the default clock (well sort of i've managed to change it from a square one to a round one), i've followed the instructions on moving the file into the device-windows folder.
but there's a file in there with the same name already and it doesn't replace the original file, if i try to delete the file 20F62884_manila it doesn't give me the option, the delete and rename options are not selectable, they are on the file i've pasted into the windows folder but not the original file, is it protected in any way ?
I'm using the file explorer that came with the Elegancia V8.0 Rom is this ok or do i need to use something else...
Many thanks...

Many manila fills are protect to overwrite, changing or deleting!
The easiest way is to use a cab file! It will overwrite and it give you the possibility to uninstall so you get back to the original one!
Ore maybe you can simply used a program called CfC GUI!! Perhaps the most simply way if it is fore personal used!
more explication ore where to find it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470798
The file explorer which is on your device will not overwrite protected files.
But, search for "Total Commander" for Windows Mobile - it´s not the "freshest" software, but free, and it *does* overwrite protected files.
To make it more finger friendly, just change to large icons view!
Or, after all, as the previous poster mentioned, use cab files - those will automatically install and overwrite files.
Cheers for the reply's i've used a cab and yep changed the clock, but most of the clocks i've really liked are not as cab's so will try the total commander now, again thanks for the help, much appreciated...
Buggar even with total commander it says unable to delete file
If you will I make a cab for you! Perhaps the easy's way!!
