XDA2 JVM
HAVE U GUYS ACTUALLY GOT YOUR XDA2s running JAVA APPLETS!?
or r u guys just assuming that these links r the solution and have not tried it on an xda2?
i have followed these links before but NONE of them say that they will work on xda2 running the windows MOBILE O/S and on internet explrer version that xda2 users r stuck with.
they say they wrk on windows ce but not mobile.
HAVE U GUYS ACTUALLY GOT YOUR XDA2 running java applets????
sorry im very frustrated.PLEASE HELP!
dave
The Ewesoft program is VERY confusing.
And as far as i can tell, it didnt work.
I've been looking for some kind of Java that will allow me to run Java applets off of website (like jIRC).
Right now I'm looking at CrEme, which looks like its what I need. But I think I'll have to buy it (i really dont care at this point )

JAVA FOR XDA2
AHA!! I KNEW IT... ALL THESE "EXPERTS" CLAIMING TO HAVE A SOLUTION AND PASTING LINKS IN HERE,... AND YET THEY HAVNT FRIGGIN TRIED THE MEDICINE THEM SELVES ON THE XDA2 !!! ARGH!!!
THAT TICKS ME OFF SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!! :>(
IM SO MAD I WANNA EAT MY CRT MONITOR!!! GRRRAAAAAA!!!!
HAS ANYBODY FRIGGIN GOT THEIR JAVA APPLETS RUNNING ON XDA 2 YET OR NOT!??!
PLEAAAAASE TELL ME... IF YOU HAVE, ILL KISS YOU, (if youre a supermodel) AND MARRY U.
I downloaded a copy of Netfront 3 which comes bundled with JVLite2. I havent really used applets with it (except for the 2 games and the calculator that comes with it) but it's been amazingly compatible with full blown Java based chat systems (with multiple resizable windows) when launhced through the Netfront browser. As for the midlet thing that comes with the phone I havent got it to work with anything, I can select the setup option then nothing happens.
Make sure you have ROM 1.60 or later if you're on an XDA 2 because I found that the Java program just disappears in some complex apps with anything older. Also be wary of using Java chat rooms on the train, if u go in a tunnel the Java program will freeze up and wont close, even with special task manager programs on the phone!

JVM FOR XDA2
aha! a real lead this time!
hey buddy, run icq applet at
http://go.icq.com
PLEASE TELL ME IF IT WORKS!
so that i don't have to risk 30 us dollars.
many thanks in advance!
if it doesn't work can u try a java website like net banking sites?
il be eagerly waiting ur feedback on the results
Dave
well i installed and used ewe compiled an old java program i wrote years agoe just to try it out and it ran just fine
it was no applet and had no gui
but it ran all the same
as for running java in a browser then i havent come across a plugin for IE maybe some of the other browsers have it maybe when opera comes to town it will have a plugin
p.s. writing with capital letters mean that you are shouting which is normal when one is fustrated but you have normal letters in the middle
which is "talking" normaly would be pretty fun irl mixing shouts and normal talk
opera? she makes browsers?!
that black female (barely) talk show host that cant make up her to stay either fat or thin makes browsers?
will it work for xda2?
how many browsers in total currently work on xda2
and is it possible 2 upgrade the version of ie that comes with xda2? say 2 version 6?
dude who got java working on xda2 for irc... still waiting 4 ur results on go.icq.com applet.
DAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://dailywireless.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=2996&src=rss09
it's for smartphone but will prob come for pocketpc aswell
http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/software/internet_thunderhawk.htm
and another
how many browser project there really are is a question only google knows
if one can upgrade an ie on a pda depend on if it's located in rom and if it let other files shadow those files
but has anyone actually tried to run an applet on an xda2 with another browser yet?
so far evryone has theoretical ideas but would love to hear success stories on how the got their xda2 to run full grapgical applets. such as http://go.icq.com.
JAVA SUCCESS FOR XDA 2 !!
SUCCESS!!!
THE NET FRONT LEAD WAS SOLID! Thanks whoever sent that link!
I CAN NOW RUN FULL JAVA APPLETS ON THE XDA 2 WITH THE NETFRONT 3.1 BROWSER THAT COMES WITH A JAVA PLUGIN THAT YOU HAVE TO MANUALY ENABLE IN THE SETTINGS OF THE BROWSER PLUGIN SETTING.
YOU CAN EVEN SAVE IMAGES FROM THE WEB!! A FEATURE IE DOES NOT SUPPORT IN XDA 2.
Get it from

Looking for eBook reader with voice output

Hi,
I have searched a lot so far, but still did not find it.
Does anyone know an eBook reader that will read the book with voiceoutput? I would love to be able to drive and having the books read to me.
Thanks,
vma
I was looking into the same. There is a program out there (not free) which will do exactly what your after (can't remember the name, try Google). Only thing is I think you have to buy the books from them.
Best of luck. Paul
Yeah... I do remember a software that read's books, but it uses like compressed audio files, which you have to purchase.
I was looking for a software that would use speech syntesis and that would open plain text files.
I had a free speech syntesis program installed once and you could like copy & paste text into it's window and it would actually read the text. But tyy to do that with a whole book...
Still, I find it funny that no one did make such a program. Can it be that I am getting really weird???
Cheers,
vma
One program was called Fonix iSpeak for Pocket PC, but good luck finding it now.
http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=586
Another program is called FLITE:
http://www.viksoe.dk/code/flite.htm
Arh ha. Flite was the program I was referring to. The Fonix ispeak sound even better! Does anyone know where to get it?
Hi,
It seems more dificult than what I assumed... I tried an evaluation version of Fonix (it is a discuntinued product, I guess) and it does not suit my needs: while it does indeed read a book in text format, it will neither show the text nor does it allow to stop reading and then resuming at another time.
So I had a new idea: why not look out for tools on the PC that would convert TXT to mp3?
I looked for it and there are actually tons of tools to do that.
However, from the 5-6 tools I tried, only one was able to actually produce a usable mp3 file out of a complete book.
The file is 100MB in size and the quality is not very good (the quality of the reader, not the compression).
I will to some further testings on that, but basically I believe that we are not yet there...
Cheers,
vma
Please keep us informed on the outcome. I too am interested.

Yup, but http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=275403 should be the first to read so that the OP knows where to look first.
I have a 160MB wiki, English, in TomeRaider3 format.. year 2000 database (no pics), which fits alright in my 1GB card and as far as the information is concerned, seems alright. Let me know if any of you wanted it and I can upload it somewhere (tell me where)

Widgets App for PPC?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ww4xatwrNs
I was browsing Youtube for things having to do with Windows Mobile, when I came across that comparison video between the Iphone and Windows Mobile. One of the topics was "widgets", and for the Iphone half, the Iphone "home" screen was shown, while for the WM section, a nice, slick looking application used to view photos from Flickr and search Wikipedia was shown, at 2:19 in the video. Any one have an idea/link to that application? Sure would be nice to play with on my phone
yeah i know... having the same problem.... the other thing i saw was a cool web browser which allowed u to drag the page around.... anyone know what its called.....

ya the widgets are kool....opera web browser lets u drag the page around...check the new opera browser for ppc
The application is called Widsets, it runs on Java.
https://www.widsets.com/index
Free and works with midlet manager on Wizard.
This widset is very interesting.. I wonder why is it in such a low profile in the xda-dev world.
thanks for the link, i'm gonna play around with WidSets and see how it goes. by the way,
@sean.t.oleary
you may have been talking about the Picsel Browser that was taken from a Samsung phone and now works on other WM Phones. Do a Search for it, it's here at xda-dev.
@hanmin
i agree, i thought i would find this fairly easily on these forums, but i didn't find a thing
Tried installing widsets - it forced me to install the jad for the iPaq hx4600 which doesnt seem to work right on my ppc (i730). Anyone have a different jad I can try?
SubliMobi RSS Reader
Have you tried SubliMobi RSS Reader (http://www.sublimobi.com) ? It
works on my mobile and it's free.
Widsets on Orbit
Has anyone tried Widsets on XDA Orbit yet? Mine just shows a blank screen.
They show that there is around 50% success with Orbit https://www.widsets.com/devices
just tested on my herald and it is running quite smoothly.

Windows Mobile CAB archive?

A while back I found a link to a mediafire archive with something like 50 CAB's in it, for Windows Mobile 6.x. Does anyone know where that archive is?
It used to be bookmarked on my computer, but I accidently deleted it, so it's now gone.
I imagine that some of those CAB's are probably somewhere else on the interwebs as well, but I have been searching all day to no avail.
Also, FreewarePocketPC still has lot's of stuff available for WM devices, but a lot of it is intermixed with crap for Android(most of the Android **** that's clogging the site is just virus anyways), and Windows Phone 7, and some of the links are dead.
P.S. I have an archive of CAB's as well, I will be sharing soon, most of the CAB's I have are still available elsewhere on the interwebs, but with WM6.x getting older by the day, and so many things linkrotting as we type, it won't be long before the ever-diminishing set of workable programs reaches zero, and our beloved WinCE/WM6.x based devices are dead forever. So the more mirrored archives there are, the better.
NOTE: IF anyone wants an app, PM me, do not clog the forums with requests. NO, I do not have warez and paid software, I do not have any way to make your paid software work without paying, DO NOT ask for warez, if you do, your PM will be copied to this thread for everyone to see and laugh at.

1.) Opera Mini 5 - In download box below. Web browser for WM2003 all the way up to WM6.5.5, still works and because of Opera compression, it renders nicely even over 2G and modern websites are rendered nicely.
2.) UC Browser 7.04 - In download box below. Another web browser for WM5 up to WM6.5.5, still works, built by a Chinese company, not sure if it uses compression, like other browsers for WM, rendering quality is hit or miss depending on the site.
3.) Opera Mobile 10 BETA - In download box below. A newer version of Opera, for WM5 and above, still works, like with Mini 5, it uses Opera compression servers so it browses fast over 2G and modern websites are still nice. AFAIK it supports Flash.
4.) SkyFire - In download box below. Another nice browser. I am not sure if it still works, it uses SkyFire compression servers, supports flash. SkyFire as of 2013 was still available for Android, so it's possible the compression servers are still active. If the servers are not active, then since this AFAIK does not render locally, it's just here for historical completeness.
5.) ZetaKey 2010 - In download box below. This is a browser that is AFAIK still developed for WM6 and up. It supports HTML5 and AFAIK Flash, based on WebKit, so even without compression servers(which this does not use), it should render modern websites okay.
6.) Iris Browser 1.1.9 - In download box below. This browser still works. Uses WebKit, although it is not developed anymore, it does score a 100/100 on Acid3, has a pop-up blocker and supports NPAPI plugins just like Firefox.
7.) ZetaKey 2017 - In download box below. See ZetaKey 2010 entry. This is the newest version of that browser.
8.) TCPMP Finger Friendly. A great media player for WM devices. IMO it's even better than what comes on most Androids even in 2019.
Original link is still up: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634951
Or you can download it from the box below.
1.) Flexilis Mobile Security - Link in download box below. This is a once-popular anti-virus program for WM6.x devices. It is AFAIK the precursor to what we now know as Lookout on Android devices. I am not sure if it has new virus definitions, but then again, is there anyone actually creating *new* viruses for WM6.x anyways?
2.) ESET Mobile Antivirus - Link in download box below. This is another popular anti-virus program for WM5 through 6.5.5, although the WM version is no longer developed nor is it still supported, ESET is still around and still makes some of the best anti-virus software for Linux, Windows, MacOS and Android.
3.) FingerKeyboard - Probably one of, if not the best alternative keyboards for WM6/6.5. It is way better than the stock keyboard(although the HTC keyboard is decent).
Download it from the box below, or the original link is still active here. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487677
4.) Esmertec Jbed - This allows Java midlets to run on Windows Mobile devices.
Get it from the box below or go here(https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407667) because the original link is still active...
5.) Adobe Reader - View PDF files on Windows Mobile. Get it from the download box below.
Dude, don't you think you've been late with this thread for about 10 years?
I know maybe 3 or 4 old-fags here at xda (including me) who still have functional WM6.5 - WEH6.5.3 phones. And we are mostly "chiefs" - we cook our own roms and have all the necessary soft in our roms already.

I am just putting this out here mainly as a way a of preserving these programs for anyone who might care aboit them. Also, so if there might be anyone out there who still happens to have a device that can use these. So, sure, the thread is 10 years out of date, but thats exactly the point.
I'll take that bet...
Well I for one would love to see archives of old WM6.x CABs. I bought the HD2 In the first week it was out, and loved tweeking and fiddling with it until I had to factory reset it and remember where I stored the latest viable backup.
I must have crashes that thing a dozen times or more!
Well I never did get myself together enough to build a kitchen and learn to cook up some ROMs, but I had fun with all of the crazy and cool programs and apps. Cookie monster had an awesome UI Tweeker as I recall.
So yeah, I found the ol' Leo and charged it up! It's working!
I would love some links to CAB archives!
I recently bought some Windows Mobile devices just to play with, so I would also love an archive.
Finally somebody doing this. Thanks.
A bit late, but preservation is always good.
I tried finding games for WinMo, but every single link i came across was dead. (If somebody comments about piracy... WinMo has been discontinuted for, like, what? 10 years?)
If anyone still has any app installed on their WinMo phones, please make a backup and upload it.
I was a Symbian user when WinMo was still used, so i kinda missed on pretty much everything.
And you know what's the weird thing?
You can still find SYS files for Symbian all around the internet, but WinMo apps simply vanished.
So, yeah, if any of y'all have any app, just post it here.

I have a bunch on my HD2, I just dont know how to upload to here. Or anywhere else for that matter. I will look into a file share site. Any help would be appreciated.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ still operates with most links still working. In most cases it offers a primary link & a mirror link to download the Apps. On the rare occasion both links fail a web search on the App or developer name will usually yield a result. Only very rarely can I not find a WM6.5 CAB, registry hack, etc., that I want. I've been amazed how much is still out there. I've used the HD2 as my sole Phone/PDA for almost 10 years & by trial & error I've got it to be very stable (a screen freeze is now a rare & notable event). I recently added the new 400GB microSD which is so fast I can put most Apps onto SD that formally required Device Memory installation only. I can't speak too highly of this little device. And the screen is much more scratch resistant than my wife's Lumia 950! Cheers

When you tap the reply button and it opens up that new page where you write your text and stuff, scroll down until you see "Manage Attachments", tap on that and a new page will open, from which you could upload your files. :good:

Rolled a 1 on search and found this. It had some good links. Not all function anymore.
Sites that still have some form of .cab files:
Freewarepocketpc.net
mpbus.net
mobile24.co
A good extractor for cabs and thier extension files would be nice.

Chill, it's no problem.
You could upload them to your Google Drive and turn on link sharing for the zip you made from the cabs. (And tap on "Everybody with a link: can view", not "Everybody with a link: can edit")
Then copy the link and post it here.
Also, thanks for those links. Really useful.
Having better achieve of cool apps and games still good for even the htc hd2 would be great for WinMobile 6.5
I attempted to reply with an outline of a project I am starting, and included the links to my dropbox file of HTC HD2 software, however it was auto flagged and i cant find the technical contact form as my browser is not allowing me to scroll through all the options in drop down menus and other pages.
sorry guys! I shall return when I can and try again.
Making a online archive with every possible cab categorized in smart way is one of my dreams since when I started discovering the world of technology and modding through this wonderful OS called Windows Mobile
The websites listed in this page allows you to search on old filesharing websites.
You can still find a lot of apps on
---Emule (servers +KAD especially)
---"windows mobile" and "pocketpc" sections on softonic.com (if I'm not wrong a con is that for each cab you want to download Softonic downloads a windows installer that then downloads the cab)
---install the webarchive extension on your browser and visit every old bookmark you saved in the past with the hope that the webpage was saved on the archive)
If I had the time I'll buy some webspace and I'll archive every WinMo app! XD (I would need less GBs than a single today's laptop hdd)

Actually, just dug out an old HTC Diamond2 that was once used by a relative, I was looking for software and this has actually been pretty helpful, I'm trying to figure out what these old PDA-ish devices still can do, I know that the few that can run Linux are actually pretty well supported to this day, but this one looks pretty much obscure so far, not a miracle, but I did want to play around with it
