Windows Mobile CAB archive? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps
A while back I found a link to a mediafire archive with something like 50 CAB's in it, for Windows Mobile 6.x. Does anyone know where that archive is?
It used to be bookmarked on my computer, but I accidently deleted it, so it's now gone.
I imagine that some of those CAB's are probably somewhere else on the interwebs as well, but I have been searching all day to no avail.
Also, FreewarePocketPC still has lot's of stuff available for WM devices, but a lot of it is intermixed with crap for Android(most of the Android **** that's clogging the site is just virus anyways), and Windows Phone 7, and some of the links are dead.
P.S. I have an archive of CAB's as well, I will be sharing soon, most of the CAB's I have are still available elsewhere on the interwebs, but with WM6.x getting older by the day, and so many things linkrotting as we type, it won't be long before the ever-diminishing set of workable programs reaches zero, and our beloved WinCE/WM6.x based devices are dead forever. So the more mirrored archives there are, the better.
NOTE: IF anyone wants an app, PM me, do not clog the forums with requests. NO, I do not have warez and paid software, I do not have any way to make your paid software work without paying, DO NOT ask for warez, if you do, your PM will be copied to this thread for everyone to see and laugh at.

1.) Opera Mini 5 - In download box below. Web browser for WM2003 all the way up to WM6.5.5, still works and because of Opera compression, it renders nicely even over 2G and modern websites are rendered nicely.
2.) UC Browser 7.04 - In download box below. Another web browser for WM5 up to WM6.5.5, still works, built by a Chinese company, not sure if it uses compression, like other browsers for WM, rendering quality is hit or miss depending on the site.
3.) Opera Mobile 10 BETA - In download box below. A newer version of Opera, for WM5 and above, still works, like with Mini 5, it uses Opera compression servers so it browses fast over 2G and modern websites are still nice. AFAIK it supports Flash.
4.) SkyFire - In download box below. Another nice browser. I am not sure if it still works, it uses SkyFire compression servers, supports flash. SkyFire as of 2013 was still available for Android, so it's possible the compression servers are still active. If the servers are not active, then since this AFAIK does not render locally, it's just here for historical completeness.
5.) ZetaKey 2010 - In download box below. This is a browser that is AFAIK still developed for WM6 and up. It supports HTML5 and AFAIK Flash, based on WebKit, so even without compression servers(which this does not use), it should render modern websites okay.
6.) Iris Browser 1.1.9 - In download box below. This browser still works. Uses WebKit, although it is not developed anymore, it does score a 100/100 on Acid3, has a pop-up blocker and supports NPAPI plugins just like Firefox.
7.) ZetaKey 2017 - In download box below. See ZetaKey 2010 entry. This is the newest version of that browser.
8.) TCPMP Finger Friendly. A great media player for WM devices. IMO it's even better than what comes on most Androids even in 2019.
Original link is still up: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634951
Or you can download it from the box below.
1.) Flexilis Mobile Security - Link in download box below. This is a once-popular anti-virus program for WM6.x devices. It is AFAIK the precursor to what we now know as Lookout on Android devices. I am not sure if it has new virus definitions, but then again, is there anyone actually creating *new* viruses for WM6.x anyways?
2.) ESET Mobile Antivirus - Link in download box below. This is another popular anti-virus program for WM5 through 6.5.5, although the WM version is no longer developed nor is it still supported, ESET is still around and still makes some of the best anti-virus software for Linux, Windows, MacOS and Android.
3.) FingerKeyboard - Probably one of, if not the best alternative keyboards for WM6/6.5. It is way better than the stock keyboard(although the HTC keyboard is decent).
Download it from the box below, or the original link is still active here. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487677
4.) Esmertec Jbed - This allows Java midlets to run on Windows Mobile devices.
Get it from the box below or go here(https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407667) because the original link is still active...
5.) Adobe Reader - View PDF files on Windows Mobile. Get it from the download box below.
Dude, don't you think you've been late with this thread for about 10 years?
I know maybe 3 or 4 old-fags here at xda (including me) who still have functional WM6.5 - WEH6.5.3 phones. And we are mostly "chiefs" - we cook our own roms and have all the necessary soft in our roms already.

I am just putting this out here mainly as a way a of preserving these programs for anyone who might care aboit them. Also, so if there might be anyone out there who still happens to have a device that can use these. So, sure, the thread is 10 years out of date, but thats exactly the point.
I'll take that bet...
Well I for one would love to see archives of old WM6.x CABs. I bought the HD2 In the first week it was out, and loved tweeking and fiddling with it until I had to factory reset it and remember where I stored the latest viable backup.
I must have crashes that thing a dozen times or more!
Well I never did get myself together enough to build a kitchen and learn to cook up some ROMs, but I had fun with all of the crazy and cool programs and apps. Cookie monster had an awesome UI Tweeker as I recall.
So yeah, I found the ol' Leo and charged it up! It's working!
I would love some links to CAB archives!
I recently bought some Windows Mobile devices just to play with, so I would also love an archive.
Finally somebody doing this. Thanks.
A bit late, but preservation is always good.
I tried finding games for WinMo, but every single link i came across was dead. (If somebody comments about piracy... WinMo has been discontinuted for, like, what? 10 years?)
If anyone still has any app installed on their WinMo phones, please make a backup and upload it.
I was a Symbian user when WinMo was still used, so i kinda missed on pretty much everything.
And you know what's the weird thing?
You can still find SYS files for Symbian all around the internet, but WinMo apps simply vanished.
So, yeah, if any of y'all have any app, just post it here.

I have a bunch on my HD2, I just dont know how to upload to here. Or anywhere else for that matter. I will look into a file share site. Any help would be appreciated.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ still operates with most links still working. In most cases it offers a primary link & a mirror link to download the Apps. On the rare occasion both links fail a web search on the App or developer name will usually yield a result. Only very rarely can I not find a WM6.5 CAB, registry hack, etc., that I want. I've been amazed how much is still out there. I've used the HD2 as my sole Phone/PDA for almost 10 years & by trial & error I've got it to be very stable (a screen freeze is now a rare & notable event). I recently added the new 400GB microSD which is so fast I can put most Apps onto SD that formally required Device Memory installation only. I can't speak too highly of this little device. And the screen is much more scratch resistant than my wife's Lumia 950! Cheers

When you tap the reply button and it opens up that new page where you write your text and stuff, scroll down until you see "Manage Attachments", tap on that and a new page will open, from which you could upload your files. :good:

I read that reply and I couldn't stop myself from adding the slight tone of distain at having to answer the obvious to someone as noobish as I. however, does said 10 post anti flake-o-noob rule apply? if not. Well, i need to go buy a shovel and dig holes for a living.

Rolled a 1 on search and found this. It had some good links. Not all function anymore.
Sites that still have some form of .cab files:
Freewarepocketpc.net
mpbus.net
mobile24.co
A good extractor for cabs and thier extension files would be nice.

Chill, it's no problem.
You could upload them to your Google Drive and turn on link sharing for the zip you made from the cabs. (And tap on "Everybody with a link: can view", not "Everybody with a link: can edit")
Then copy the link and post it here.
Also, thanks for those links. Really useful.
Having better achieve of cool apps and games still good for even the htc hd2 would be great for WinMobile 6.5
I attempted to reply with an outline of a project I am starting, and included the links to my dropbox file of HTC HD2 software, however it was auto flagged and i cant find the technical contact form as my browser is not allowing me to scroll through all the options in drop down menus and other pages.
sorry guys! I shall return when I can and try again.
Making a online archive with every possible cab categorized in smart way is one of my dreams since when I started discovering the world of technology and modding through this wonderful OS called Windows Mobile
The websites listed in this page allows you to search on old filesharing websites.
You can still find a lot of apps on
---Emule (servers +KAD especially)
---"windows mobile" and "pocketpc" sections on softonic.com (if I'm not wrong a con is that for each cab you want to download Softonic downloads a windows installer that then downloads the cab)
---install the webarchive extension on your browser and visit every old bookmark you saved in the past with the hope that the webpage was saved on the archive)
If I had the time I'll buy some webspace and I'll archive every WinMo app! XD (I would need less GBs than a single today's laptop hdd)

Well a lot has changed since 2018. I just went to freeware pocket PC and tried 10 different links and none of them worked and none of the developers still had a functioning website.

Actually, just dug out an old HTC Diamond2 that was once used by a relative, I was looking for software and this has actually been pretty helpful, I'm trying to figure out what these old PDA-ish devices still can do, I know that the few that can run Linux are actually pretty well supported to this day, but this one looks pretty much obscure so far, not a miracle, but I did want to play around with it

Ok, Im working with the mUn edition of WM6. Anyone know how he disabled all but the password setup screen?

Wow.. : ) That's a VERY GOOD approach there.. A step by step. That's how some things CAN Get done : ) Thanks Man : ) I Think We all can use that : ) I'd like to start some kind of central repository/ interactive table with a Comparison of diffrent roms :futures, prog version, posssible issues: strong points, weak points. There had already been so many threads like: best freeware soft for wizard, and since there are unorganized comments all over thread finding usefull, NOT Doubled application names, links, descriptions, becomes very hard if not impossible. Some kind of ranking of apps ? that may be more to xda-dev guys/ site owner/administrator if it could be incorporated into structures of BB Possibly it could look like auto rom cooker, that i've seen for some older pda.. maybe it could be crossreferenced for different platforms, like alpine, wizard, himalaya, but centrally connected to one database so more data will be gathered and make it more universal: sometimes guys from another forum know of some software, that other users of WM5/6 could find usefull, but do not have time to go to every of 5 000 threads looking for a(good, or any in that case) free MMS Backup utility !? .. found a couple of utils. for sms backup, saying they will back up email, sms, and mms.. well, they do only sms, and considering that i have flashed my wizadr about 15 times during last week.., trying to use wizard as primary phone and keep track of contacts, is impossible without efficient backup system .. Yet so many soft is being installed without EVEr knowing what for, and or how to use it and are already on the rom cooked. Some are being used everyday during normal operations and which use and "fixed problems credit"are being given to a "new WM system" I think it should be a cross(bow)referenced, or interweaved: forum and WIKI so forum will become more organized and more usefull to the community. And WIKI part will give ability to add more descriptions, and make building a database of app references, usage, and rating without making it all unclear and timewaste for scrolling through .. well an "off topic" comments , opinions still could be added under interactive portion of wiki..for all who like to get and give opinions(like youtube's sectioned view: 1.video,2.related videos, 3 comments, 4 unrelated latest videos. : 1.File, app, or rom reference portion, 2.related threads/topics, comparisons, 3. forum comments thread 4. unrelated threads, comments, apps, comparisons/ news. with system like this we all could save some serious time and not get overloaded by unnecessary info. /time to get some rest Cheers!

NTS, are you trying to re-enable it? In terms of clean, it would be nice to have the original keyboard back as well as no other themes. THAT is a clean ROM. If all of the registry fixes are in there, then we all have something to work with. JMHO.

I strongly believe that the ROM should be as close as possible to that which should have been released by M$. I do think the keyboard ought to be an option (a separate cab file), but in order to have a TRULY vanilla ROM, that and other extras cannot be included. If you include the keyboard, then it's just a matter of time before everything else ends up finding it's way in along with it. JMHO

Device-on-time Utility
I'm trying to get real data on how much use I get from my TC between charges. Is anyone running a utility to monitor the cumulative amout of time that you've had your device switched on for since the last battery charge? I Googled and found a few apps but they were all last updated in 2005 or 2006 and specified Windows CE or Windows 2005 CE as the supported OS; although they probably are just fine on WM6 I'm always nervous of putting very old apps on my device. Has anyone found anything more recent or already tried one or more of these old ones on their Touch Cruise and can verify that they work? I have a preference for something that isn't a Today plugin, I'd rather just leave a straightforward app running in the background since I don't expect to always want to be monitoring this, but if a Today plugin as all that I can get then that's OK. EDIT: Hi Milan - I just saw your reply to my post in your PowerGuard forum so it looks like we're communicating, albeit in a rather wierd way across two forums. Thanks for your attention on this, you are a real superstar! - Julian
U want me to write one? Or integrate it in PowerGuard?
Muyz said: U want me to write one? Or integrate it in PowerGuard? Click to expand... Click to collapse Hi Muyz, Yes please! I did make a post about this on your PowerGuard forum, complete with some suggestions regarding a really simple way to implement it, but I posted from my laptop not my main computer so I didn't realise I wasn't logged on to your forum and my post appeared as being from "Guest" (but I did sign it with my name like I do on all my posts to any forum so that I can search on them at some later date if necessary). My preference would be to add it to PowerGuard partly just to have one less thing to install but also because I suspect you already have a lot of the necessary code to support it in there already. - Julian
Recieved a New (secondhand) HTC Cruise..
Hiya's, I found this site while looking up info on the HTC cruise as I have just received a hand-me-down Cruise from a friend (had a very old nokia..). This is a major upgrade for me (it has a 2 camera's unlike my nokia which has none). I am keen to get the most use from the phone as possible and at the moment it seems to be going ok but having read a couple of the forum messages it seems that there are various upgrades that can make it a better phone. I have been accused of being a semi-ludite when it comes to using technology so would appreciate any advice on what can be upgraded as far as the operating system and other programs are concerned. I have used the CoPilot program this morning and think is is the greatest thing since individually sliced and packaged cheese.. The settings on the phone indicate it is ROM 1.26.710.1 WWE (date 12/17/2007), Radio Version 1.58.21.23 and Protocol Version 25.65.30.04H. If any advice is forthcoming, please keep things as simple as possible or I will have to get one of my neighbors kids to come over and explain.. Cheers Ian
Welcome to the wonderful world of a touchscreen windows mobile device. Of course there are a lot of things you can improve, thousands of programs are waiting to be installed and so on. IMHO the most important thing is: If you are satisfied with your current system DO NOT change it. If everything is running smooth there is no need to flash a new operating system or radio. If you notice slowdowns during using the device or if the radio in your area is not running perfect you should flash the latest upgrade from HTC. They are offering WM 6.1 (WM = windows mobile, the operating system) and a new radio. Its very easy to flash but you will loose all your data on the device. If you don't like your today screen, you can check some replacements, Mobile Shell is one of it: http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/mobileshell And if you like this shell you can change its look with upgrades like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3904948&postcount=2513 Of course you can flash one of the Roms created by one of the devs. You will find an overview here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521961 But you should be aware that many of these roms are using stuff from other devices like Manilla, this might cause problems. And you have to be very careful if flash a self created rom, its not that easy like flashing an original HTC rom. Last but not least you have to think about the way you want to use your device. If you just need a phone you need nothing else. If you want to read ebooks like wikipedia you need a reader and so on. Here you can find tons of programs for your device: http://www.handango.com/homepage/Homepage.jsp?storeId=2218 You will also find a lot of freeware apps here: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ And a very important thing is: Backup your device often if you are trying different applications, you are having a windows device
For a list of recommended software check my signature. All are freeware except iGO, and easily found on this forums (or links from here lead to authors pages). And welcome to Polaris owners club...
Thanks very much for the replies.. It seems to be going ok at the moment. I am not too sure whether it is slow or not (nothing to compare..) but opening an application only takes a couple of seconds so I am happy with that. I have been using it primarily as a phone (of course) but have been using the camera like mad. I even made one of my friends give me a video call..very cool...I have tried to use the voice commander application but it doesn't seem to want to do anything and eventually just says "Goodbye" and closes. I am going to look at the list of applications at some of the website that are list above and see what is available. Cheers and thanks again.. IJ
Best Open Market Application for HTC HD2
I have just discovered Open Market and it is quite frankly a bit more reach in free apps. Look for OpnMarket I would like people to use this thread to share the best apps for HTC HD2. Come on have your say. Mine so far is WIFI Remote Access v1.00 Enables to browse the content of your Windows Phone 6.5 or Windows Mobile 6.0, 6.1 device from your computer's web browser using a WIFI connection without installing anything on your computer!

This community has much more to offer than any other single location on the internet (including Wifi Remote Access v1.7)

I'm still anxiously waiting for XDA-Marketplace.....! Already there isa version for Android, I'm wondering how long it will take for a WM version, since originally xda-developers was intended for windows mobile... That's the one I want to have!
Can't seem to get Omarket to function properly on my HD2. It requires a login or registration and attempt to register, but it says my information is incorrect...LOL At first it would say my email was incorrect, and I tried 3 email address, then it says there's an error in the fields.

first I look at openmarket and after here bc I way easier then here to search the forums. OpenMarket is a must have. PS: a shame that they try to make another one and dont work together. One place with all stuff, that must be the target
New to windows mobile Help please
I went from iphone to android to webos to comeback to android. I use google voice. I use last.fm to scrobble. And pandora. None of this are on windows mobile marketplace. I just got the htc hd2 today while i love the hardware and everything. Comparing other mobile os's windows mobile sucks in terms of app choices. Can somebody please guide me in the right direction for replacements or if the programs are available please tell me how to get them? I also noticed my email inbox looks like it never left the 90's. Html emails are not being displayed and pictures are not loading automatically. Trying to adapt need it for work so i must make the best out of it

Click to collapse Okay... look here for all the apps we use on our hd2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=603880 On Windows Mobile.. you can look for apps outside of the "marketplace".. you download them as a .cab file (on pc or phone) and place them on the sd card if you want... which out the box is unique to windows mobile (doesn't eat up phone memory (but not that we lack it on the new hd2 lol)) Once the .cab file is on your phone/sd card... in the phone you go to file explorer (in the start menu)... click on it and navigate to where you placed the .cab file and run it. You can save the installation to the "device" because there is plenty of memory and tends to run better.
To awnser your questions; [1] Google voice idk, but im sure google will have a wm app out soon (if not already, im not 'in' google voice so dunno) [2] Last.fm Googling around a bit i see they (or someone) released a windows mobile app in 2008, but all links to it trow a 404, so check out their mobile forums, specifically this sticky [3] Pandora, just read this; http://www.pandora.com/on-windowsmobile (Point your mobile phone's browser to www.pandora.com) [4] Incomplete emails Thats just a setting since most people use gprs/hsdpa, im sure you can change it, either somewhere in the settings or trough a registry edit Though i just have to say/write this, DONT GET ME WRONG but honestly, you shouldn't try to make this like your iPhone, although Microsoft/HTC are clearly trying to 'collect' some iPhone users, overall the HD2 isn't user friendly enough to be a iPhone (yes i sayd it) That doesn't mean you shouldn't stick with the HD2 though, just forget the iPhone To put some strength behind my 'user friendly' statement, if your ROM is from before 1.66, the HD2 will have quite some silly bugs, like SMS messages that get stuck in the outbox but only (if your lucky) send 3 weeks later, problems with the camera, not beeing able to read/write large miniSD cards & more. On the other hand, if your in any way IT related or just in general good with computers, this is currently the best phone on the market (counting HD2 and HD2b as one) it does the latest wireless connection methods, has build-in gps, compass and g-sensor, a 1ghz gpu, a 'gpu' (kinda) and more geeky features, and hey, it can emulate most psx games at full speed (www.fpsece.net) I'd just strongly suggest you to get a new ROM from the HTC site, assuming you have a device with pre 1.66 I hope the above helped a bit, not trying to make windows mobile even more confusing for you, just trying to tell you that it cant really be compared to iPhone/Android, it can be compared to windows, there are actually millions of apps, nobody ever felt the need for a windows marketplace until iPhone got one and Microsoft had to compete, at which they currently fail hard i agree, the windows marketplace thing is a joke, just use google.
