Widgets App for PPC? - General Topics

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ww4xatwrNs
I was browsing Youtube for things having to do with Windows Mobile, when I came across that comparison video between the Iphone and Windows Mobile. One of the topics was "widgets", and for the Iphone half, the Iphone "home" screen was shown, while for the WM section, a nice, slick looking application used to view photos from Flickr and search Wikipedia was shown, at 2:19 in the video. Any one have an idea/link to that application? Sure would be nice to play with on my phone

yeah i know... having the same problem.... the other thing i saw was a cool web browser which allowed u to drag the page around.... anyone know what its called.....

ya the widgets are kool....opera web browser lets u drag the page around...check the new opera browser for ppc

The application is called Widsets, it runs on Java.
https://www.widsets.com/index
Free and works with midlet manager on Wizard.

This widset is very interesting.. I wonder why is it in such a low profile in the xda-dev world.

thanks for the link, i'm gonna play around with WidSets and see how it goes. by the way,
@sean.t.oleary
you may have been talking about the Picsel Browser that was taken from a Samsung phone and now works on other WM Phones. Do a Search for it, it's here at xda-dev.
@hanmin
i agree, i thought i would find this fairly easily on these forums, but i didn't find a thing

Tried installing widsets - it forced me to install the jad for the iPaq hx4600 which doesnt seem to work right on my ppc (i730). Anyone have a different jad I can try?

SubliMobi RSS Reader
Have you tried SubliMobi RSS Reader (http://www.sublimobi.com) ? It
works on my mobile and it's free.

Widsets on Orbit
Has anyone tried Widsets on XDA Orbit yet? Mine just shows a blank screen.
They show that there is around 50% success with Orbit https://www.widsets.com/devices

just tested on my herald and it is running quite smoothly.

I second that. I've been looking everywhere. But I can't find anything that intuitive. Has anyone found any program like that?
The only thing is the Picsel Browser. But the problem with that is you can't view all the files in a folder and go to the next picture easily. But you can zoom in and move around like iPhone.
Please anyone knows one let us know.
i heard resco is the only program close enough
It is an other option I guess
and freeware
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/fr/index.php?soft=368
and this one too
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/fr/index.php?soft=877
i dont know of any picture viewer that scales and zooms like the iphone with two fingers, but i use xnview, its free, opens other picture files resco cant, etc etc.
I've been looking through this forum and google, but still haven't found anything alike...
Is there anyone that's been able to develope something like it?
Thanks!
google something call iZoom , its not available yet, but would be a nice substitute
Doesn't HTC Album work a bit like the iPhone thing? I've never tried it because it won't run on my 9502, but apparently it works on a lot of devices and its freeware. You push the image to the side for the next image, and draw a circle around a bit to zoom in and stuff. Looks really cool. Wish it ran on my device
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecx1xm4Vl4Y
try VITO EyePhoto.
I like it very much and it's intention is clearly to bring iPhone usage principles to WM.
yes htc album is simple and efficient. easy to use.
but you should search better and sometimes look in the dev & hack section of xda and you could find this :

What browser is this?

take a look at this picture of the new XDA Comet running WM6. I want to know what browser its showing on the device.

my apologies for posting this in the wrong forum...i realized after posting that there's probably better places to post a question regarding software that is being run on a device that is not a wizard.
mods, feel free to move this thread to wherever you think it best fits.
look like picsel , but as far as i know , picsel is only for samsung ... i don't know then ( maybe a new version of deepfish )
Given the image fits to the curve of the screen housing, I guess it's just a photoshop job. If it was an LCD image it would have 90 degree corners and would not be 100% to the edge of the housing.
Picsel also doesn't (natively) go fullscreen, so it's probably Photoshopped. There are a number of good browsers that will go fullscreen though...

The latest version of picsel, hacked to install on any WM device, is NATIVELY full screen. You have to tap and hold for everything. Picsel is not a great browser, it's main purpose is as a file viewer. It's not great at THAT, either.

Agreed. See my related review at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1213451&postcount=20 for a review of a, as far as native full screen support is concerned, earlier version.

As has been explained in the Web Browsing Bible ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1213451&postcount=20 ), the Picsel browser doesn't do ANY caching. Therefore, no history pages either.

Windows Mobile Web Browsers

Hi people,
I know of pocket explorer, and the opera release, but is there any other webbrowsers out there that are any good?
What i am looking for is something like the iphones safari. That would be nice
Pocket Explorer
Opera
Deepfish - damn shame this was never continued!
Cheers
Opera have 2 releases, you didn't mention which one you have. Opera Mobile is one of them but its not free, its good for tabbed browsing and downloads but personally i can't get along with it as it runs slow on my handset and often has script errors, plus struggles with desktop pages and uses alot of data. Opera Mini is the other one and i personally think its amazing. You can load up full web pages quickly and easily and it allows you to zoom in and out of the pages so you can view them like you would on your desktop. It uses very low amounts of data so its cheap to use, plus its free to download.
I personally use opera on my handset as it works well with windows, its the best thing so far anyway.
If your thinking of something more along the lines of the safari (iphone) experience, there is nothing at this time that matches it exactly, but there are similar programs you can get hold of that have been around a little while like Picsel Browser. Which can load up full pages (but cost you alot of data), and renders the pages pretty well, plus you can scroll with your finger and zoom in and out of pages without a stylus. I used to use this browser but i'm now totally hooked on Opera Mini.
I'm sure there are some other browsers out there but these two i mentioned are the only 2 i consider worth mentioning.
PS. Deepfish is similar to Opera mini, its optimises pages server side to make them smaller (data wise anyway), but i think opera have stollen the game from microsoft, thus them stopping any more work on the project, from what we can see anyway!
Hope this all helps btw

Personally I don't use opera mini, because it doesn't come for the htc p4350, i can run the generic, but I have to startup java first, then opera, and with every text area (including adress) it opens a new typing window..

That's the same way it works on my wing. However, as I'm browsing from a phone, I really don't have the highest of expectations for my browsing experience, and all things considered, opera mini is the best option I've found thus far.

Look for Picsel browser, it works almost exactly as the iPhone safari, the zoom, the kinetic scrolling, all that stuff. Execpt it's made for only samsung phones so they don't make it availible for everybody. I have aa copy, but i don't think i can post it here. Type it in google, there a lot of them there. That's where i found mine. And by the way Picsel dosent just view web pages, it also views pictures, word, excel, pdf and powerpoint. Goodluck

well..guys i got the file..but havent test it yet..well..atleast not yet..lolz jus typed in Picsel Browser 1.0.5 download..nd got it ;D
I tried Piscel and it was very snazzy, however, it does have some site limitations so it looks like the pay version of opera is the way to go.

New streaming media site

Hi,
I've just finished my new website:
http://www.todaypda.com/
The beste page is the streaming page, you can find 1055 radio streams and 698 television streams (also webcams).
My question is: what do you think about the site? And what should be changed?
Greetingz Themuzz
ps I don't know if it's allowed to post this here, if not: my excuses
Edit:
5870 Radio streams
1311 Television streams
25 Countries
Also the possibility to create your own PDA startpage
Thanx, I will stick to this thread. I only want some feedback what should be changed or could be better.
wow good work. this site works great, 1 suggestion, 1 question.
Suggetion: Make page single column adjusted left not centered. This would make browsing from the pda easier, no scrolling left/right only up/down.
Question: any possibility for compatability with netfront browser or does it use java.

I thought 2 columns would be small enough to fit on a pda screen but I forgot there are many, many different PDA's (or smartphones). So:
Under settings you can switch between 1 or 2 columns, so everything will fit!

I will look at this.
I've looked at your problem with Netfront but I can't find any problem. It works perfect for me.
Would you like to give a description what doesn't work?
I'm also looking at live stocks, does anyone know some live stock streams?
Great site! Looks good with single column and loads fast. Checked out the CCTV streams and a few from around the world...they all worked great. Added to bookmarks..thanks!
Thanx,
I've just added some sort a live stocks to the website:
http://www.todaypda.com/stocks/quotes.html
It's an ajax script that refreshes every 3 seconds. So it only works when the market is open.
please let me know what you think about it.
I've just added a translate page. You can translate text and words to the most common languages.
Please let me know what you think about it.
All I can say is WOW!
I guess this site doesn't work with Pie Plus too since nothing is loading from it.
Edited:
Nevemind, it just the first 2 some too many spaces in the asx file it it didn't work. Very nice!!!!
I've just updated a lot of stuff.
Added about 400 streams (still need to check if some old streaming links are working or not).
Added a chat application with chatbox capability (and automatic refresh)
Added a search application where you can search the web, images and lyrics
And more (news, etc).
I woul appreciate it to get some feedback from you guys!
Greetingz Themuzz
Note. So feedback like why you use it everyday or why you don't ever use it again are welcome! (you are allowed to scream: It sucks! Because... )
http://www.todaypda.com/
Nothing? No one?
?
not working on netfront 3.5? when i clicked the play stream it keeps on saving the .asx file.

Thanks! Work great on both PIE and Opera 9.5 on my X7510. Worth keeping.
I like that it loads fast and that the sites' look clean. If ever you plan on adding advertisements, make sure they are on one column.
Thanks for posting.
Very nice site mate, very nice indeed.
And consider it tested on a the uber screen of the Toshiba G900 (800x480 res) and it looks very nice indeed, landscape or portrait. That also means it has a good chance of working on the Sony Xperia X1, should it ever actually launch - its the same screen.
Thanks for the feedback (cktlcmd & Monty Burns)!
cktlcmd, there are already advertisements on the "view stream" pages.
For example:
http://www.todaypda.com/en/stream/show-stream.html?stream=webcam_661
What do you mean with one column? This ad is already one column and now i'm wondering if this displays correct
There is also the option to view everything one column (for streams) if you go to the settings page.
More feedback is appreciated
The Best Site for Party Use!
Yesterday I used your site for my party guest and it was a success! We were able to switch to all types of music. Love your site, its a bookmark
Wow, great site and contribution to the forum. Works great with PIE+ and Core player. No real suggestions for improvement, other than keep up the great work. Added the site to my bookmarks.

RSS reader - recommendation?

Can someone recommend a good RSS reader for the FUZE / WM6.1?
thanks.
Does the Fuze not come with an RSS reader (RSS Hub) like the Sprint Touch Pro?
If not, then i'll recommend pRSS Reader. Very nice freeware.
http://prssreader.en.softonic.com/pocketpc
RSS Hub is the best.
Beyond Pod
It does RSS and Pod Casts. I don't think it does Viedeo Pod Cast though. It is free and is easy to use.

I wish Google Reader worked better on the Fuze. Google Reader owns all RSS feed readers.

Just use the iPhone version at http://www.google.com/reader/i/ using Opera instead. For those on the Fuze, make sure that Opera is not using the MEdia Net proxy (uncheck http and https proxy in the proxy section of opera:config) and that the proxy is not enabled for MEdia Net (in the connections manager). The proxy screws up the Javascript so no stories show up. After that, it works just as well as it does on the iPhone.
I use Newsgator Go ... syncs with my desktop and the web so I can access feeds where-ever I am and not get confused as to what I have (or have not) read...
RSS Reader
I have used Insight (SPB) for the past year or two with no issues both on the Fuze and Tilt. You pay money, but stability and useability is good - especially on a cooked ROM (ROMeOS).
Try viigo.com.
It got more than RSS feeds.

Um, on the Raphael, Opera is the default browser so BeyondPod will open in that. If you are not using a Raphael (Touch Pro) device, you can go into settings in BeyondPod and configure for the External Browser.
Google reader only, it's awesome
RSS Reader
When I had my Tilt, the RSS reader I used was Garish Kernels. It was on my home screen and would update every 10 minutes or so. Is there a similar program that I could get on my Fuze and have it on a TF3d tab? or better still on the home page? All the ones I've looked at so far, I have to put on my programs tab, and manually run it when I want it to update.
i could sworn on the HTC Wizard WM6.1 ROMs there was a TF3d tab for RSS. Anyway to get a plugin for our home screen?

For people with google reader accounts, you should use SpeeedReader. Its pretty solid. Check it out!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=516168&highlight=SpeeedReader
I love newsgator.... online service and pda phone service as well....only downside is their PPC software isn't touch capable so you have to use the scroll bar .... but a great reader...easy to use.
Gotta agree on the Newsgator, always synced with my [email protected] and my workstation at home, so I'm not bugged by the same news over and over again
I must say I prefer pRSSreader. I've tried most of these and never found one which suited my needs: downloading pictures/podcasts for offline vieweing (such as before train journies).
I did try Egress 4.11 and that was an excellent application, but i found it crashed too many times when loading a lot of pictures from a news feed, when selected.
So, 'pRSSreader' is my vote! It downlaods everything you tell it to for offline viewing and sync's with Google Reader during updates!
As a shameless plug as well, I have made a pRSSreader icon modification set for my Touch Diamond as I was bored with the rather drab looking icons it comes with.
Check it out at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=528643
