Blackjack II annoying startup and shutdown sounds, well you can turn them off - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

If you find the startup and shutdwon screens on the Blackjack to be annoying, you can get rid of them with a registry change as folows:
HKey_Local_Machine>system>
-under system there are two entries: Shutdown and Startup
-under each one you will find an entry named 1
-under 1 there is a value name of Dll
-the default value for both entries is OemAnimationDll.dll
-change the default value data of each of those files (startup and shutdown) to this:
*none* (include the astericks...this helps the OS distinguish that it is not a specific file)
-after changeing the value to *none*, back out to the main menu - wait a couple seconds and shut down and then restart, and you will find the annoying shutdown and startup screens and audio are gone.
When you shut down, hold the on/off button down for the normal 2-3 three seconds and release. At that point when you normally would have seen the shutdown screen and audio, it appears that nothing is happening, but just be patient and wait the few seconds a shutdown normally takes and the screen will go blank as the unit powers off.
On startup, you will immediately see the standard blue Windows Mobile Screen which will be there until the home screen comes up and loads. Just remember that it still takes the normal time to shutdown and startup. I guess all the startup and shutdwon OEM .dll files did was run in the foreground while the normal o/s functions ran in the background.

Thanks for the info - really hate those sounds at startup!
Also have a question - looking to update my battery and network icons at the top - would you have any suggestions on a good (and safe) way of doing this? Assuming I need to have the SDA App Unlocker and a regeditor already installed.
I'm using the the Mini Weather app from NRG and that is amazing, but was looking for some way to change those default icons as well.
Thanks again!

Hey what's up, just hop over to the Excalibur group where Stylez and NRG contiribute often, as a matter of fact Stylez, has a post that explains how to do it.

Cool thanks again!

no problems, enjoy

I upgraded to 2.01a_WWE32. And have some problems
1. Why don`t my screen turn off when I hold POWER button?
2. How can I change splash image, because I changed it in old 2003se, and now when rebooting it appears two images, my old one and standart blue WINOWS MOBILE?
3. How can I remove battery icon at the top bar? This Icon is not produced by plugins or somethin else. And when I set option to display clocks it messes with battery icon and looks strange.

6 Button Comm Manager Fix

Since I just happened to get around to this finally but my latest ROM probably won't be seen for a couple days I figured I'd share the info now for any other chefs that like the 6 button Comm Manager.
As many may have figured out, the version 1.8.3.0 Comm Manager sucks (both Off/On buttons appear blue, as well as a couple other problems). This made me stick with 1.7.2.0. That unfortunately would normally leave the following annoying bug:
If you run the Comm Manager and then Minimize it (i.e. X button without some task manager or hit the Exit soft key button in the Comm Manager) then open another application and perform a portrait/landscape change then close that application, Comm Manager will appear (annoying, albeit somewhat rare).
Anyway, turns out this is pretty easy to fix. Thanks to 1.8.3.0 it made my task even faster. After deciding that SetWindowPos() must be the culprit I noticed that in 1.8.3.0 the uFlags parameter is set to 0x04 whereas in 1.7.2.0 it is not. Two binary changes later 1.7.2.0 is working perfectly with regard to this bug.
For those interested change offsets 0x6358 and 0x6428 from 0x00 to 0x04. One offset is for entering Portrait mode, the other for entering Landscape mode. A binary version of CommManager.exe 1.7.2.0 with this fix will be available in Q-Mobile 1.2 when it is released.
Finally, in Comm Manager 1.7.2.0 the Status_Off_Disable.png and Status_On_Disable.png are useless and may be deleted, but I recommend deleting the Status_On_Disable.png and RENAMING Status_Off_Disable.png to Status_Unselected_Disable.png as this is a file that was never previously included but will provide the icons for disabled mode (think flight mode makes 3G disabled and the buttons shouldn't be missing, only disabled).
Hope this helps! Cheers,

What's On Your Today Screen?

I have been going back and forth between rltoday and HTC Home. I have issues with both and I like them both. I am currently running the HTC Home plugin.
rltoday Pros:
Highly configurable (if you have time)
very light weight
can use with the hidelogo cab
free
rltoday Cons:
limited user community (for my device)
unable to navigate with five-way
limited native functionality (additional scripts or 3rd party apps needed)
no weather plugin
HTC Home Pros:
Customizable (HTC Home Config)
multi-tabbed
built-in weather
built-in ringer profile selections (with HHC)
launch music player from today screen as well as see what's playing
built-in picture dialer
no 3rd party apps/scripts needed
free
HTC Home Cons:
unable to use hidelogo cab
weather plugin is limited (even with HHC)
profile selections don't always work
a. doesn't vibrate but is silent
b. when the meeting/event is over speaker is turned all the way down
when the clock is touched it launches the time/alarm settings (annoying)
So, what are you running on your today screen and why?
hey too bad nobody is answering to this i would love to know all the cool today plugins there is. Im running the HTC Home plugin and sometimes the cool Pointu interface.
How about you guys ?
I prefer the simple but elegant approach...until something really groundbreaking comes along :
TA Pro: controls LED, and gives quick stats and weather
GoodMobile Messaging Calendar and Mail (also displays sms count)
cLaunch: Three 2xtabs (each tab has 2 wrap rows) with my common apps. I've also modified cLaunch.dll to play nicer with the 240x240 display when in the settings area of the app.
Hidelogo to give a little more real estate
I've also replaced battery.exe with an HTC version that gives a better battery icon and little more display flexibility.
QuickMenu 2.7 to assist with app closing, hibernate, soft reset and additional menu browsing needs.
fTouchflo (last free version) for easier touch navigation
I've replaced the default tahoma.ttf with the one from my XP workstation for a smoother font appearance
================
I really like throttle launcher as a replacement for cLaunch, but presently it takes up too much memory and is a little cumbersome to configure on the fly.
PointUI is promising, but needs better hooks into "Good" before I can use it, plus needs more customization options to allow me to get to what I need in a minimum of "clicks" - it's not presently able to give me what my present setup offers me.

My Today screen is settled. I have finalized on HTC Home Plugin. No other plugins on the screen. You will notice that I have the bluetooth and the carrier information hid. This is accomplished with Memaid removing the "active call", and "lookup". This does make some additional challenges like the usage of the talk (green) and end (red buttons) as well as the ringer. These are easily overcome by registry changes. I also employed the HTC Home Customizer to make the background transparent and have the "Vista" icons. Music is being played on the device and only showing in the plug (not title bar) through the use of "wk Task". Also I have the battery icon on the today screen but on other apps the time is displayed. This is a result of HHC as well. You can have the time only always; I chose to have it only away from the Today screen. You will also notice that the left and right softkeys are different. Because I am using the standard Windows Mobile dialer, I can customize these keys. One goes to the mail/messaging and the other goes to my IM program. I am running WM6.1 Lite OS (ROM).
I intend to write a complete document on how to do these customizations. It can be frustrating looking for hours and days piecing things together. WinMob has been a lot more fun for me than Palm (former 650 user).
What other options are out there? Feel free to chime in.
Just added quick menu to the list. It is amazing!
Quickmenu
I have found that this application makes my Treo unresponsive. I noticed that after selecting the application, my phone seems to hang or be very slow. I have uninstalled it until I can figure what is making it unresponsive.

Well my today screen is running SPB Mobile Shell 2.
Version 2 looks real nice and has some cool animations too.
lew, i sent you a pm, id love to get rid of palm dialer and the att/bt logos while keeping red/green button functionality.
I got what I need installed (memmaid, total commander) i just dont know what to do.
what registry settings did you use to get the green and red phone keys functional again after disabling the carrier/bluetooth icons?
Green/Red Button Functionality
Use the following steps to remove the carrier info/bluetooth logo and still use the green/red buttons.
I got rid of the carrier info by way of the removal of "Active Call" and "Dial Lookup" startup items. These were removed using MemMaid. At this point the device will revert to the WinMob dialer. Pressing the green button will launch the dialer and pressing the red button will cause it to go away. However pressing the red button will NOT end a call. You have to press the "End" button on the screen or hangup via your BT device button.
You will need to change the service called "VOL0" to "manual" (MemMaid again).
You will no longer be able to select your ringer in the standard way. You will need to make the change in the registry. HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds is where the change is made. The entries PlmORingTone1, 2 and 3 are the entries for Known Unknown and Roaming calls. You will have to copy and paste (and over-write) the entries from there to "RingTone0", 2 and "RoamingRing0". PlmORingTone1 and RingTone0 are for "Known"callers. You will have to make this change every time you want the ringtone to be different. These steps are not necessary for changing the ringtone of a contact.
You need to remap the device keys. (Backup your device OR copy the values down BEFORE you make any changes if you want to go back!!) Make the following changes in the registry. In HKLM\Security\Phone change the Charmap to "ertdfgxcvzubo" and the Keymap to "ERTDFGXCVZUBO". In HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin change Enabled to "0".
Reset the device
NOTE: These changes are only necessary if you want to use the standard WM6(.1) dialer. Original Values for the Charmap and Keymap entries
Charmap "ertdfgcvbyuio"
Keymap: "ERTDFGCVBYUIO"

Thanks for the tutorial, but now the red key no longer turns off the screen. Any ideas
Red Button No Longer Turns Off Screen
I too have the same problem with the red button. To aleviate this I have created a button shortcut that allows me to lock the phone by pressing one button. Using QuickMenu, in the options, on the command tab, choose lock from the list and click on create shortcut. You can now assign a button to this to lock the phone. I choose the OK button. So if I press and hold OK, my phone will lock.
By the way, the issue that I was having with QuickMenu was a conflict with CTRL-Pro. After removing it I am now able to use QuickMenu without any problems.

I use the executable and DLL's from http://www.alensw.com/attachment/QuickMenu_2.7.rar
I extract to ExtROM and create a shortcut to the EXE in windows\startup.
All the settings are stored in the registry, use total commander or your preferred flavor of reg reader to import/export for backup/restore purposes.
Cheers
why not use the "hidelogo.cab"
The hidelogo.cab causes a reset loop with the HTC Home plugin.

Keep previous screen rotation?

Hi everyone!
I searched over the forum to find a way to keep the previous screen orientation when I push the power on button. It's useful when I cradle my Uni in the car...
Seems that I may stop the service "MIS1" but it has several side effects: it's hard to start again (requires registry modifications) and once stopped it doesn't make the screen to rotate anymore.
So, how can I make the screen to remain in landscape when I turned off my Uni in landscape mode?
Thank you for reading...
A solution may be hardware rather than software, if you ok to do such a thing.
Add slider button or similar to disable the internal switch.
Too much invasive for the device...
Since it seems to be a software function to reset to portrait mode every time the device wakes up, maybe there's a way to stop it, or to add a software button to enable/disable this feature...
On MSDN it's explained how to access the screen rotation features but I have no idea on how to do it...
Sound strange that nobody felt the need of such a trick before... Or not in the same way as me...
Thx...
try with mortscript.
use df task manager and configure that script in wake-up notification event.
Thank you for the suggestion, Tomal!
I partially did it.
When I'm driving in my car, I put the screen in landscape because of the cradle and I need the device to stay in landscape mode only in this case.
So I put in SPB Mobile Shell today a link to a script (using a renamed autorun.exe to make it appear in the programs list) that switches between landscape and portrait and writes on a file the status.
Then I added a link in the notifications list using DF's task manager to another script that reads the previous state from the file and flips the screen to landscape only if the file says that the device was in landscape.
Unfortunately WM6 seems to override the script and the screen barely returns to portrait on wake up.
I partially fixed it adding in the "notificated" script a 6 seconds wait time.
Doing this the screen rotate to portrait for a little time then returns, as it was supposed to, to landscape.
I need some more tests to ensure that the wait time doesn't create conflicts with other functions like phone or reminders.
One first upgrade would be to find a way to write on the file the screen status when the device goes to sleep, but I don't know how to do it.
The second, and most important, upgrade would be to understand why WM overrides the rotate function.
Another thought: I made a script that writes on a file the screen status on woke up. If I turn off the device while in portrait mode and I turn it back on, the script writes in the file that the screen is in portrait mode. Seems that when the notification starts the script reads the status wanted by Windows even if the screen appears in landscape for few seconds, then it rotates.
According to this, I supposed that the seconds needed to rotate weren't influent and Windows thought to be in portrait mode. But the other script won't work without a 6 seconds delay...
Any idea?
Sorry for the lenght...
You do not need to write on file, just write on registry.
Create a new reg key and add/remove all your values are there. It's the most reliable way.
just my two cents.
Auzman, don't know if you have found your solution. I was dwelling on iGo (NavNGo), that it sticks to landscape (when set, and I turn off/on Uni). However I think it's sneaky in that it isn't real landscape, but actually changes its images to suit the orientation you choose (in iGo) and totally ignores the PPC's (WM/Uni) orientation. But hey, it does mean I was still thinking of you ha!

Customizing Keys in WM 6.5

A couple things I want to customize:
(1) When dialing a call, I have to use the touch screen to dial numbers... unless I lock it into number mode first, then I can use the keyboard.
How can I make it default to number lock??
(1) The power button only works for waking up the screen.
How can I make the power button turn off screen or power off phone??
(3) Want to add icons to Home screen. Tried CHome Editor, but it's not working for me. No matter what I do, It won't commit any new panels or icons. It will only add or remove icons that are already part of the Windows Default.
Any ideas??
(4) And one more thing... The clock is not syncing with the provider. And I can't find a setting to make it.
Any help appreciated. Thanks!
I looked around a little bit but didn't see any other threads with answers so I started a new one. Is that ok?
