I have been going back and forth between rltoday and HTC Home. I have issues with both and I like them both. I am currently running the HTC Home plugin.
rltoday Pros:
Highly configurable (if you have time)
very light weight
can use with the hidelogo cab
free
rltoday Cons:
limited user community (for my device)
unable to navigate with five-way
limited native functionality (additional scripts or 3rd party apps needed)
no weather plugin
HTC Home Pros:
Customizable (HTC Home Config)
multi-tabbed
built-in weather
built-in ringer profile selections (with HHC)
launch music player from today screen as well as see what's playing
built-in picture dialer
no 3rd party apps/scripts needed
free
HTC Home Cons:
unable to use hidelogo cab
weather plugin is limited (even with HHC)
profile selections don't always work
a. doesn't vibrate but is silent
b. when the meeting/event is over speaker is turned all the way down
when the clock is touched it launches the time/alarm settings (annoying)
So, what are you running on your today screen and why?
hey too bad nobody is answering to this i would love to know all the cool today plugins there is. Im running the HTC Home plugin and sometimes the cool Pointu interface.
How about you guys ?
I prefer the simple but elegant approach...until something really groundbreaking comes along :
TA Pro: controls LED, and gives quick stats and weather
GoodMobile Messaging Calendar and Mail (also displays sms count)
cLaunch: Three 2xtabs (each tab has 2 wrap rows) with my common apps. I've also modified cLaunch.dll to play nicer with the 240x240 display when in the settings area of the app.
Hidelogo to give a little more real estate
I've also replaced battery.exe with an HTC version that gives a better battery icon and little more display flexibility.
QuickMenu 2.7 to assist with app closing, hibernate, soft reset and additional menu browsing needs.
fTouchflo (last free version) for easier touch navigation
I've replaced the default tahoma.ttf with the one from my XP workstation for a smoother font appearance
================
I really like throttle launcher as a replacement for cLaunch, but presently it takes up too much memory and is a little cumbersome to configure on the fly.
PointUI is promising, but needs better hooks into "Good" before I can use it, plus needs more customization options to allow me to get to what I need in a minimum of "clicks" - it's not presently able to give me what my present setup offers me.

Any screenshots?
My Today screen is settled. I have finalized on HTC Home Plugin. No other plugins on the screen. You will notice that I have the bluetooth and the carrier information hid. This is accomplished with Memaid removing the "active call", and "lookup". This does make some additional challenges like the usage of the talk (green) and end (red buttons) as well as the ringer. These are easily overcome by registry changes. I also employed the HTC Home Customizer to make the background transparent and have the "Vista" icons. Music is being played on the device and only showing in the plug (not title bar) through the use of "wk Task". Also I have the battery icon on the today screen but on other apps the time is displayed. This is a result of HHC as well. You can have the time only always; I chose to have it only away from the Today screen. You will also notice that the left and right softkeys are different. Because I am using the standard Windows Mobile dialer, I can customize these keys. One goes to the mail/messaging and the other goes to my IM program. I am running WM6.1 Lite OS (ROM).
I intend to write a complete document on how to do these customizations. It can be frustrating looking for hours and days piecing things together. WinMob has been a lot more fun for me than Palm (former 650 user).
What other options are out there? Feel free to chime in.
Just added quick menu to the list. It is amazing!
Quickmenu
I have found that this application makes my Treo unresponsive. I noticed that after selecting the application, my phone seems to hang or be very slow. I have uninstalled it until I can figure what is making it unresponsive.

lew, i sent you a pm, id love to get rid of palm dialer and the att/bt logos while keeping red/green button functionality.
I got what I need installed (memmaid, total commander) i just dont know what to do.
what registry settings did you use to get the green and red phone keys functional again after disabling the carrier/bluetooth icons?
Green/Red Button Functionality
Use the following steps to remove the carrier info/bluetooth logo and still use the green/red buttons.
I got rid of the carrier info by way of the removal of "Active Call" and "Dial Lookup" startup items. These were removed using MemMaid. At this point the device will revert to the WinMob dialer. Pressing the green button will launch the dialer and pressing the red button will cause it to go away. However pressing the red button will NOT end a call. You have to press the "End" button on the screen or hangup via your BT device button.
You will need to change the service called "VOL0" to "manual" (MemMaid again).
You will no longer be able to select your ringer in the standard way. You will need to make the change in the registry. HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds is where the change is made. The entries PlmORingTone1, 2 and 3 are the entries for Known Unknown and Roaming calls. You will have to copy and paste (and over-write) the entries from there to "RingTone0", 2 and "RoamingRing0". PlmORingTone1 and RingTone0 are for "Known"callers. You will have to make this change every time you want the ringtone to be different. These steps are not necessary for changing the ringtone of a contact.
You need to remap the device keys. (Backup your device OR copy the values down BEFORE you make any changes if you want to go back!!) Make the following changes in the registry. In HKLM\Security\Phone change the Charmap to "ertdfgxcvzubo" and the Keymap to "ERTDFGXCVZUBO". In HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin change Enabled to "0".
Reset the device
NOTE: These changes are only necessary if you want to use the standard WM6(.1) dialer. Original Values for the Charmap and Keymap entries
Charmap "ertdfgcvbyuio"
Keymap: "ERTDFGCVBYUIO"

Thanks for the tutorial, but now the red key no longer turns off the screen. Any ideas
Red Button No Longer Turns Off Screen
I too have the same problem with the red button. To aleviate this I have created a button shortcut that allows me to lock the phone by pressing one button. Using QuickMenu, in the options, on the command tab, choose lock from the list and click on create shortcut. You can now assign a button to this to lock the phone. I choose the OK button. So if I press and hold OK, my phone will lock.
By the way, the issue that I was having with QuickMenu was a conflict with CTRL-Pro. After removing it I am now able to use QuickMenu without any problems.

I extract to ExtROM and create a shortcut to the EXE in windows\startup.
All the settings are stored in the registry, use total commander or your preferred flavor of reg reader to import/export for backup/restore purposes.
Cheers
why not use the "hidelogo.cab"
The hidelogo.cab causes a reset loop with the HTC Home plugin.

Hi
Is there anyway to remove the 'E-mail' label for the left softkey?
I tried using the registry hack on:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112
to change it to 'Messaging'. After the change, when I press the left soft key, I see both E-mail AND Messaging (highlighted) and I have to select it to launch Messaging. Can I get rid of E-mail completely so that with one key press I can launch Messaging?
In addition, is there a way to remove the battery indicator on the top task bar? Or maybe even replace it with the volume indicator?
I'd also like to know this.. can anyone help??

That only adds another menu item to the left softkey, it doesnt remove the email item. We want to completely get rid of the "Email" menu option
To the best of my understanding, the today screen softkeys are handled by a Palm specific program. As such, the ability to customize the function of the softkeys is quite limited. You may, however, be able to "kill" Palms handling of the softkeys and alter them as per other WM5 devices. (Downside to this is you lose the, IMHO, nice right softkey popup menu.)
Ingenious developers will most certainly find a way around this, but I don't imagine it will be as simple as a registry tweak.
Yep the menu button is a great addition by Palm.
Hi there,
here's a question relating to the soft-keyboard:
I noticed that with some applications (e.g. PHM reg editor) when I want to punch in a value and hit the corresponding field the keyboard will pop up (which is perfect so far). Now, the keyboard sometimes hides the OK button which I'd have to hit to accept the changes but somehow I can't convince the keyboard to go back where it came from - there's no button to disable or change it (like the "12" button you sometimes see in the bottom).
What can I do to get rid of the keyboard in such situations? Is there maybe a hardware button??
Thanks a lot
There's an icon between the soft keys on the bottom of the screen that changes according to the desired input method. Touch that and a keyboard will magically disappear, regardless of the selected input method.
The input method icon, is always displayed when there's a possibility for text input.
ps.: RTM

Read the manual and like I said:
There's NO icon displayed at the bottom of the screen!
Then use another program, that's the best workaround that i can come up whith..
Or there's the possibilty of a greater underlying problem that would need a Hard Reset to fix it... so far you're the first whith this problem...
Indeed, I've had this too before, try using WM6 compatbile software, I though that was my problem a few weeks ago. An example is Mozilla Minimo, which is horrible on WM6, not being able to remove the keyboard, or even better, hiding it, but not refreshing the contents behind the keyboard

Exactly, Minimo is another one of those applications that show this problem.
How about changing your default kb to something else?
There is a reg hack to disable the SIP from displaying when you put focus on any text field, but that is not a good solution for a device that doesn't have a physical kb. I use it on my Treo 750 since I don't need the SIP. However, on the TC, it would make much sense.
On a bit of a side note, I have heard that if TC owners want to use another kb besides the standard Xt9 version, you need to apply the following to disable it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Layouts\e0010409
Ime File=\windows\compime.dll
Layout Text=COMP IME
To Turn on again
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Layouts\e0010409
Ime File=\windows\eT9Ime.dll
Layout Text=eT9 IME
Did your registry tweaks will stop pop up of any keyboard when accessing a text area?
That's what I 'm looking for. Because I installed a full screen keyboard and I use it with a button.
Thxs.
up!!!
Pleaaaaase'!
This app will keep the keyboard from poping up automatically. You can still open it manually. I've not tried it with WM6.

what full screen keyboard are you using?
I use SPB full keyboard.

yes it is possible
Yes! I've used Advanced Configuration Tool v3.3.cab.
In advanced configuration you can select different applications to set in the bottom of the home screen.
Could you tell me where will I find it (which option should I choose)
Search here in XDA for "advanced configuration tool V3.3.cab" (thanks shape!) and install it!
Then U go in "User Interfaces"->menu->more setting->key mapping and here you can sett every programs you want assign to the sofkeys!
in order to not make another thread; where will I find "phone"? I've changed it by mistake, and now I can't switch it back.
If you use AdvancedConfig then, you can change the softkey by looking up the "phone" shortcut from the drop down list or you can just leave it blank & it will change it automatically to the default setting.
Maybe a little OT... But I read that .NET 3.5 needs to be installed. Can I simply download and install it or do i need to manually do register changes afterwards (read that I had to somewhere)?
Just install NetCF3.5 to your phone (Main Memory or Storage Card) does not matter, mine is running just fine from SD Card. Soft reset & it should run with no issues.
Continuing the OT:
The Netcf 3.5 is not replace automatically but we must change the values on the register.
HKey_Local_Machine -> Software -> Microsoft ->. NETCompactFramework
click on item 2.0.7045.00 and change the value from 1 to 0
click on item 3.5.7283.00 and change the value from 0 to 1
Close ... soft reset and you have the ROM with the NETCF 3.5!
ok, now I know. However it worked for me without having to change registry settings.
or use this progam, works on diamond 2 too..
Does anyone know how you might, in a similar vain, get Notes to appear on the home screen?
@marcelvanblankers:
doesnt work on my td2! after restart it seems like it does, as there actually are the replaced buttons being displayed, but when tf3d launches there are "phone" and "camera" back again.
That's BS.
I just installed NetCF 3.5 via .cab and Advanced Config worked, without any registry changes.
i was talking of the softkeymanager1_1_diamond_beta.ARM_WM5.cab

I've these 2 apps already, how to do it?
To change the left softkey to lock with S2U2, do this:
Install a registry editor. You can get a free one here: http://freewareppc.com/utilities/phmregistryeditor.shtml
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/HTC/manila/
Change the value for HomeLSKPath, to this: \Program Files\S2U2\s2u2.exe
Change the value for HomeLSKText to this: Lock (or anything you want for the name of the button)
But....is it possible, to make a link to the build-in Lockscreen?
Greeting
Toni
I don't know if it's possible...I don't think the built in lockscreen has an exe file to link to.
Do you know how to set the left soft key to the Tasks? I've tried using a regedit and changing the Path to \Windows\Tasks.exe but get an error when I try and use it. Also tried setting it via BsB Tweaks, afterwich, the name Tasks is on the front screen but when I push it nothing happens.
I really thought changing the regkey (as stated above) to \Windows\tasks.exe would work.
Any help on changing the left softkey to Tasks please?

Actually I have already configured like this.
However, the performance of loading lock screen is poor.
In fact, I'm using the latest version of S2U2, which is version 2.30.
It supports a new feature to replace the default wm lock screen.
That is, if press "start" and then press "Lock" button at left softkey, S2U2 lock screen would be called.
I've tried to compare the performance of following 3 approaches:
1. turn on the new S2U2 feature to replace original wm lock screen
2. putting S2U2 icon to the quicklink at Manila home
3. modify left softkey of Manila home by S2U2 using above method
The result shown that 1 is the fastest but 3 is the slowest, even much slower than 2.
So, if it is possible to "copy" the Lock button from Start screen to Manila home screen, then it is perfect.
A couple things I want to customize:
(1) When dialing a call, I have to use the touch screen to dial numbers... unless I lock it into number mode first, then I can use the keyboard.
How can I make it default to number lock??
(1) The power button only works for waking up the screen.
How can I make the power button turn off screen or power off phone??
(3) Want to add icons to Home screen. Tried CHome Editor, but it's not working for me. No matter what I do, It won't commit any new panels or icons. It will only add or remove icons that are already part of the Windows Default.
Any ideas??
(4) And one more thing... The clock is not syncing with the provider. And I can't find a setting to make it.
Any help appreciated. Thanks!
I looked around a little bit but didn't see any other threads with answers so I started a new one. Is that ok?
