I think I have the opposite problem from everyone else when I search the forums. The base volume level under System on my Touch Pro is quite loud (when playing music), to the point that I actually take the earbuds out, and just hang them over my ears. If I use mortplayer, there's an option to use relative volume changes, so I can set the System volume to one highlighted bar, and then use mortplayer's controls to make it quieter. Unfortunately, I can't do this with the HTC media player.
Running ROMeOS 1.12. Is there anything I can do to make the volume levels a bit more sane?
Yes, you could try reading the RomeOS thread, which deals with this - it is due to the Audioparm file used in that ROM
Doh, scanned through that thread and must have missed it. Thanks.
Oh, I just posted the same issue in the German ROMeOS thread. I'll skim through the WWE release thread then...

Search for audiopara fix, should give you lots of options
Thanks for the hint. I did it (for now) lowering the TouchFLO Player volume in Advanced Config Tools down to 10 or 20. I'll look into what you proposed though...

Yeah its just 3 files that you copy/overwrite in windows. Takes seconds and viola, lower volume entirely. Some roms are loud and it breaks up/distorts on the speaker.
In the TF3D settings tab, under sound, I find the volume slider there is actually accurate within 1% increments, whereas the system volume buttons can only change the volume along 5 20% increments, I was unable to listen to music without killing my ears till I discovered this tidbit, no messy registry tweaks needed

Thats my reghack (well, I found it in a thread here but have adjusted the value down from what was posted here in other threads):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\AUDIOGAIN]
"EAC_GAIN_EMBEDDED"=dword:00000077
I personally have used this for a couple of months. I keep my ringtone setting (with this tweak) at the mid point level and its a little louder than my phone used to be on a stock rom with it turned all the way up. I only turn it higher than that if I'm going to be outside or in a somewhat noisy setting. I just like the fact this gives me the option for a LOUD ringtone when I want it.
Default setting is 6D I believe. The thread I found this in was setting it to 7D. I played around with from 70 to 7D and settled on 77. For my phone, it gives me a loud ringtone that doesn't sound distorted (like 7D did) and was loud enough for me.
As for ruining your speakers... Who knows. IF you run with it cranked to the top all the time, it may just do that. Like I said, I only run with my phone at half volume and it works fine for me. (Its funny, since doing this, even at half volume, my kids will jump when the ringtone goes off as it is definetly louder ). If I'm in a quiet place, I'll turn it down to just 1 click before off or 2 clicks for a "normal" volume ringtone.
wonder how that will work with the new photo contacts 5 because PC5 seems to love over running system settings for sound

Why don't you guys use the slider for louder ringtones ?
It's easyer ...when you're in a noisy place, move it up, when home or other place, just lower the slider....that easy.

What do you mean? On my personal phone on a stock default rom, if I set the ringtone to max, its not loud enough for me (Guess I'm older and past rock concerts have finally taken a toll on my hearing ;-). So I use this reg hack to have it so that the ringtone is louder, but yes I use the slider to adjust how loud overall it will be. I'll set it to about the mid point in most cases, then adjust it up and down if its a quiet room or a noisy one. But I find the default settings not loud enough on my 8125. Maybe other Wizards have a better volume, but everyone at my office with an 8125 has implemented this reghack as they all hate the default volume level, and this fixes that.

You know that when idle, if you press the volume boubble, the slider under the phone actually controlls loudness of the ringtone and if you access it from within a call or from the call menu, it controlls the in call loudness (that's the one that doesn't work actually)
Hope it helps .

Yes, I know how the volume slider works, and what each of the different volume controls do. I think people are missing the point and seem to assume I don't know what ringtone volume is. I've explained myself twice in this thread. If you don't like or want the tweak then don't use it. Its something I like and I use. ANTC picked it up from me when he asked for the tweaks I put it in Crossbow Reloaded. I won't comment on this anymore as its dragging this thread off topic, and I've made my points for why I use it (whether people think I know how to use the controls or not). My last comment is, that maybe your phone ringtone volumes are louder, but on the 8125, I don't think they are very loud even with the ringtone (and all other volumes sliders) turned full blast. YMMV

I didn't meant to offend you . Sorry if you felt that way. I said it because my Wiza sounds horibly loud when setting that slider to the top. Stereospeakers or not, the sound doesn't compare to the SonyEricsson W series, actually is awfull in my opinion. But one thing you're right and this is offtopic. so
Sorry ANTC
Hey all,
First of all, I want to thank everyone here for the wonderful tutorials. On my first try with very little experience modifying mobile phones, I was successfully able to upgrade my 8125 to the latest TNT Professional release, and am loving it!
A minor annoyance for me is when I change the volume of the device... The default sound 'notification' that plays when the volume is changed is so stinkin' loud on the louder volume levels. Is there any way to change the notification sound, or even disable it all together? Thanks!
Same here. I'd love to shut this sound off, I swear that I read somewhere about some registry settings that need to get tweaked, but I didn't find it after one hour searching... Could someone be so kind and help me (us) out?
Thanks in advance!!
Greets,
Andreas
Replacing sounds
My so-far-fail-safe method is to replace the sound file.
1. in My Documents (or wherever but not /windows), make a copy of a wav you want to use (quieter, or even silent)
2.rename the copy of the happy wav to the name of the icky wav (you get to find out which wav it is, or maybe someone else can offer that)
3. move it to \windows, overwriting the old
In rom it doesn't necessarily actually overwrite, but it's enough to fool the system into using the sound you want. Same with 2nd splash screen.
I figure it's easy enough to be worth a try, anyway.
still have this issue on Wm6.5 energyrom phoenix 2
I cannot disable the volume change sound.
Tried looking for wav files, tried using advancedtweak (And other tweak programs).
I can only get them to shut off when in a call. I want them to be disabled forever. Any solution ideas
Hi,
When browsing the HD2 forums (I'm gonna get one in a few days, yay!) I found this:
75. Disable Beeps When Altering Volume
When you press the volume key you getting annoying beeps. This tweak allows to change the volume silently without the beeps.
HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume\Mute Change from 3 to 1.
It worked on my TP and on also on my Wizard (running WM6.1) aldo the initial setting for Mute was 7. Setting it to 1 did do the trick though.
Cheers,
/Cacti
Yeeeeeeeeeeeee finally! It works!

finally found... thx works...
I have used the tweaks found in the Wiz/Wiz section (and subscribed to a thread without much response http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=256734 ), as well as other WM6 device tweaks and ones found by googling...my issue is, and no one seems to know what/how...
My internal speaker, the mono speaker used for phone calls, is very low. The tweaks I applied have made the speakerphone louder, and my BT earpiece louder, but if I am in my house, and get a call, I usually dont use BT or speakerphone. I sound like a reverse Verizon commercial...instead of "can you hear me" it is "I can't hear you".
I have used the audiogain tweaks (also known as audiogain cc), and also HKCU\Control Panel tweaks. I have reset my device. My physical settings are cranked all the way up (slider, and volume icon).
Does ANYONE know what reg entry specifically targets the internal single (top of device between flashing lights) speaker to increase in-call volume??
I dont mind being a guinea pig, so if you have any ideas about this issue, I'd sure love to hear from you and try them out.
As always, thanks in advance!
***PS- am using AMPv2 rom with radio 2.37 IPL/SPL 2.26 (if this helps at all)
BUMP
Does anyone have any idea which reg entry may specifically target the single internal speaker? Please and Thank You.
wish I did. that would be the first thing I would fix. try apache forum as well. it is basicaly the same hardware, But I remember that a lot of verizon users traded their's in innitialy, because they could not hear anything.
hERE ARE MY RELATIVE REG SETTINGS FOR YOU TO COMPARE`
HKLM/Software/Audiogain
EAC_GAIN_EMBEDED (mine is set to: 6d)
HEADSET 67
EARPHNE_UPLINK VOL 19
HEADSET_UPLINK VOL 13
RECIEVE_UPLINK VOL 18
SPEAKER UPLINK VOL 10
HKCU/CONTROLPANEL/PHONE
VOL 0X0000FFFF(65535)
You may also want to look at these:
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\InCall
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Loudest InCallVolume
InitVol 0x00000001(1)
HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume
Here are my settings:
Key 0x00010000(65536)
Mute 0x00000003(3)
Ringer 0xfffffff(-1)
Screen 0x00010000(65536
Volume 0xffffffff(-1)
I believe you will have better luck adjusting the volume in HKCU rather than HKLM.
I hope this helps you figure out this problem. I know many of us suffer. Somehow mine is either ok, or I'm just used to it.
Mahalo!!
Thanks for your response. I have played with many of those areas, but perhaps I haven't figured out the right tweaking level yet, so I will go back to those regs and play some more. I will check the Apache section out, perhaps I could gain more insight there. I'll say this...if I finally find the right settings, I should win a front row seat to see Barry Manilow in concert--make my hard work pay off (yes you read correctly, I love Barry!)
I will certainly post any findings. This is a real pain in the ass. I love my wizard, but the speaker issue is frustrating.
Thanks again for your insight.
**EDIT**
HKLM/Control Panel/Volume AND HKLM/Drivers/Speaker both potentially affect volume (I think), but in my rom, there is no settings. I am not sure if the no settings IS the default settings, and am not sure if I can futz with these?? Does anyone have an idea if it is safe to attempt tweaks in these 2 areas??
it is safe if you back up your reg (original)
these settings are in my 588 (which I haven't posted yet) which I will post when it is ready. it is currently being simmered like a stew.
PS. when I was tweaking the camera graphics, I noticed a lot of functions that are not in the registry. about 1/3 of the icons do not show up under any circunstance. which leads me to believe that the program is capable of more than the inhibited registry.
so perhaps I will export my reg for you to try. unfortuantely, I can't post them using opera mini
How about this one,
HKCURRENTUSER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\InCall \Attenuat ionCategory = 0
The setting was on "2", changed it to "0"

What did you find when making that change? everything I have read claims it only affects the incall beeps when raising the volume slider, so I haven't really bothered with it...but I have been toying with the possibility, just for sh*ts and giggles, because at this point I have pretty much exhausted the reg entries I can think of.
Thank you for your response. Every little bit helps, and keeps me from just randomly choosing a number out of my ass to change the reg entry to!
Did you try it? It should work. It will "increase in-call volume??" You will not crash your device for trying it.
I noticed only a slight volume increase using the attenuation fix. My speakerphone sounds great though. I may just have to save my pennies and get the speaker replaced==maybe it just gave up the ghost, because none of these reg entries is giving me the volume I need.
Any other suggestions, tips, insight, etc would be appreciated.
BUMP
Still seeking some insight. Apparently the repair shop locally wants to charge LOTS of money for the speaker. The speaker worked fine prior to installing the AMP rom. I like the features of the rom so don't want to swap if I don't have to, but I REALLY do need to fix this speaker volume issue.
Can anyone provide me further assistance/suggestions?
Thank you in advance.
while your at it does anyone know what reg entries are for upping the mic evel to make it more sensitive?
I know mine increased when I tweaked something in the 4 audiogain files...but I don't remember which ones I tweaked. Look through the thread I linked in my first posting it should help.
This is my solution , and on all versions and over 30 devices tested by me.
Hi,
I'm using the default headset that came with Raphael. It is extremely loud - I need to set the music to the lowest level so it doesn't tear my ears apart.
Is there any way to make the quieter?
Hi all,
Exactly the same problem here!
Even if I put the music volume at 1% it's really too lourd.
The TouchFlo 3D embed music player is unusable as is...
Any registry hack to fix this?
Thanks
Try using the Advanced Config Tool (posted a couple places on this board). Scroll down to Touch Flow 3d sound settings and bump the volume all the way down to like 20 (i'm testing 10 right now, will update with how that goes).
Actually, 10 works very well. I'd keep it there...
Great! It works fine thanks
Bumped the "Music player volume" down to 20, but I left my earphones at home - will let you know how that works.
Strange.. because mine even set at 100 isn't quite loud..
At the moment the volume control only has 5 levels of volume. I'd like to have smaller increments if possible. When i'm listening to music it's either too quiet or too loud so i'd like a level inbetween.
You can use your finger on the volume screen to give smaller increments, not sure if that helps or not!
Thanks for the suggestion but i've already tried that and it's still only at five different levels. I'm using the omega ROM though. Wasn't a problem before but this ROM changes the volume screen and other ones i've installed still only have five volume levels.
Volumex allows up to 16 leves for the speaker
http://volumex.jdbp.mobi
what the OP is asking... is if there is a way... perhaps a registry edit or something along those lines.. which will make the volume raise/lower in smaller increments... downloading a whole new volume application is not a fix/solution... he is looking for a why to keep the manilla/sense version of the volume interface and tweak it from there... i know this, because i was looking for the same thing a while back.. but to no avail... so yea.. sorry OP... unless you want to use a completely different volume interface... you're kinda stuck... just get used to it... that's what i did

You can use THIS app to add your music app to the allowed list for use of the smaller 'media volume' control (the volume control you get on the sense music tab etc). This has more, smaller increments so you have more control.
