Hey,
Is there ANY way at all to free up some space? As the ramspace is kinda small.. I just wondered if there was any way of freeing up some space.
It depends on what ROM your running, most of the cooks take out a lot of the useless files that load into memory. So if your running a cooked ROM like OpenTouch then there isn't much you can do other then download a lite or micro ROM.
There are a lot of threads about freeing up space and ram. try doing a search, i am sure a bunch of good info will come up. I am kind of busy right now so i can't link to some searches.
Okay thanks alot, found some stuff ^^

Is it wasting the rom's / ram's space cooking rom's without any programs?Isnt it when installed writes to rom and when we turn on device writes to the ram as using less memory? So we can use many programs at once because of more ram space?
Thanks...
The unused space in flash rom is wasted, if you burn programs into the space they are not taking any ram, they are always available and you are not using up your storage/program space , only when they run are they likely to take any ram, once closed they take nothing as far as I know.
I see thanks...
Hey guys,
My internal memory is low. And I'm having a popup message every 5 seconds of the day telling me my memory is critically low... It's driving me insane! I need a solution here. That's why I turn to you guys!
I would appreciate the heads up about finding more storage space. What I'm looking for all together is a program that will "trick" my htc wizard to think the sd card is actaully the internal storage memory. I want my memory to read something like this (example);
Storage
Total: 2000MB
In use: 50MB
Free: 1950MB
(Again, the total of 2000MB (2GB) is the actual SD card being read as the main memory.)
...instead of reading what usually is shown on the memory screen (below).
I am sure there is a program out there that can do this. I've seen something like that a while ago but chose not to use it since it wasn't any use to me.
Anyways, I'd really like a heads up...

doesn't work like that man... wish it did what rom are you running? whatever it is, reflash or flash something else... you are not out of memory, wm is just being stupid...
hehe it not possible to do it like that.
it's not the same as your computer, but try to convert part of your HDD to ram ( VIRTUAL MEMORY never act like real RAM ) .
the best way is to install everything on an SD card and to flash to the lightest ROM u'll find here .
WRONG!
Hey guys,
I'm telling you it exists. I've even marked it on a text file. I just don't remember what file that is... I think I got it from one of those site like freewareppc.com.
Anyways, like I said I wrote it on a text file in a computer; but which? My comp? My laptop? My girlfirend's laptop? My cousin's computer in Florida???
Heck, for the life of me I don't remember... But I will find it! When I do, I'll be waiting for appologies aside from the thank you's and financial "contributions" to have the prog! (Joking on that last one! )
Really guys, I'll be contributing something big when I DO find it!
Keep you all posted!
Phil
PS - I hope you keep ME posted if any of you find something like that...
PSS- If I remember marking it on a text file, could it have been a registry edit and not a plugin / prog? Hmmm, I wonder.

..maybe you need to think for a while...
you gave us screen, that tells, that you have almost clean, fresh booted machine.
try to see difference between STORAGE mem and STORAGE CARD.
try to measure speed difference, and overall gain ;/.
msg 'bout lack of storage MEM, while you have whole 45 mb storage MEM free is absurd.
check your hklm.init
check your startup(with startup manager(search on xda forum for that one..)),
check storage card space,
check your notifications,
try to figure out, which active(yet hidden/tsr) soft is making that "lack of space" message,
if you cannot handle software you are using...
there's no point in making storage card storage memory, anyway.
yet.
there is a little freeware called cleartemp that works just fine I had the same problem on my hermes after using this prog ended up with 20 MB of free memory I think this problem comes from installing programs that can not be completely uninstalled and just mess up ur phone
Thanks for the heads up...
Hey guys,
Thanks for the heads up on ways to free space and little progs that clear a lot of unused memory. But I am still convinced this program exists. I will find it and then I'll get my thanks!
Hey nothin, that is just an example screen. That's not my actual screen. I have less than a mb available in my storage.
And as mohen pointed out, it can be done on a computer. Shrink that technology and it'll be able to be applied to a ppc!

Yeah, I tried it. It creates another drive (like storage folder) that appears in your file manager called ramdisk. I used the reg file in the program to put the temp internet files and cookies to this drive. It works, my internet files are being stored here. We need some benchmark program to really determine if it speeds anything up.
About Ramdisk...
Hey guys,
So let me get this straight, this will actually use ram from my sd card and make it "virtual" storage memory? Or is it another program that cleans up the temp files???
Not sure if this is what I am looking for but I'm willing to give it a shot...
By the way, can anyone tell me how to install this file??? I'd really like to get it running!
Phil
Hello?
Anybody there...?
I'm still trying to figure out how to install this program. Anyone up to give me some pointers please???
Phil
what's the point to put the internet files cache on the virtual drive ?
u can put it on the SD card as well, i'm confused
Okay here's the deal...
Alright,
Now I've just about exhausted any and all resources I had to try and find this program / registry edit that turns my SD card into internal memory...
Here's my promise to the one that can find me this; 30$. The person that finds me this gets 30$. I will personally send it to you or transfer via email or maybe even paypal. I will also make a donation to this forum.
I can't stress enough how I had this on my phone back in January and after modding my phone so many times, it's gone. I'm pleading with you guys to try and find me this solution.
Phil
PS - You can write it on this thread or PM me with your finding
Before I ask this question, please understand that I am still a noob. Is the reason to have cooked roms with appz built in better because it is better for storage space and RAM than having a minimal ROM and adding the appz thru CABs? .....Please don't judge me
Cooked ROM anytime.
It's a good question...
The answer will always be cooked ROM though, because you can fit more programs into the actual ROM itself.... otherwise the space is just wasted.
When packages are cooked into ROM, they are compressed and hence take up less space. But when the same packages are installed on phone memory they are not. Also the ROM area is faster to read then the phone memory so, Yes, packages cooked inside rom will perform faster and will take up less space. But RAM usage will remain same.
but the problem with cooking in the cabs is it's more work to upgrade to later versions
Hey guys,
Does anyone know how to change the 'program' and 'storage' memory size.
I know you can change it a little by making the pagepool smaller, but now I am having like 60MB free of storage memory, but only 12MB of program memory.
It would be very nice if I was able to change those sizes! I probably have to edit some hex value (just like changing pagepool), but I have no idea with ones.
I have looked all over the internet, but could find anything usefull. Am probably using the wrong search text...
Thanks in advance

hey, that's really a nice idea. I would be interested too in this. I am using WM6.
Thanks
There are programs around for RAM to storage, but not the other way around. ROM cooks have hacked nk.exe to get more RAM, but minimal amounts (check out ANRYL, kaiser section)
you can't REALLY have more ram. RAM and Storage are different wafers.. RAM is read as fast as possible.. "virtually" reading RAM from Storage is pointless since it reads as fast as it would read from storage.
Hello Guys and Gals,
After a couple of weeks running the factory update I find the mem available to twindle down as the hours go by.
I run task manager to free up mem after closing apps but after about 4-5 hours mem available is Regards to 185.
Any suggestions, hints or tips please?

Stop using task manager. I have read that Froyo takes care of it by itself and using a task killer can actually make things worse. You shut something down that Android needs, it starts it up. You shut it down, something else wants it. Somehow that ends up using more battery and memory.
Other than that I don't know.
Tip: Stop thinking of the ram that Android uses the same way you think of ram in a PC. Period.
Why, Ever wonder why there is no 'exit' or 'close' button on most apps? It's b/c Apps don't close on Android, they just get moved down the stack so to speak. Think of it like a deck of cards. Some apps are thin (use little ram), some are thick (use lots of ram), the deck is only so big (total amount of ram). So if you have a bunch of small apps, then they will all be in memory. if you have a large app, it will push everything else out of ram to make room for it to run. So, if your ram usage is 100% then Android is working properly. This is why Task Killers are a bad idea on Android. The above is a pretty simple explanation and this topic has basically been beaten to death ever since Android was released. For some info, just google,

Thank you both for your insight.
I will take your advice!
Thanks again... great forum!
Apologies, but based on my experience, I kind of disagree about ignoring RAM usage. I'd read some of that info awhile ago, and it made sense. But I noted that my Gtab would occasionally act weird, freezing, reboot, stuff like that.
So, I installed System Panel, and when things started grinding to a halt, I'd check that, and I often found avail memory in the 10-50MB range.
One thing was that Xscope would sometimes take almost 200MB, so I emailed the dev, who suggested changing cache from default 8 to 4. I did that, and then rarely found avail memory less than 150MB.
The other thing is I noticed that there a lot of Apps taking about 10MB, that I wasn't using. Things like Settings, Email, etc. So, I installed Startup Auditor, and configured that to stop several of those non-used apps. The thing I noticed after that is that booting is faster. Specifically, instead of sitting on the Tent boot screen for a long time, it would boot past that in maybe 10 secs. I'm thinking of buying the paid apparently so I can stop more than 5 Alps.
Anyway, YMMV, but that's my experience.
