Read the Wiki. Hard SPL 3.29 is considered by some the most stable. There is a jump spl you may need to run. It's contained in the WIKI under hard spl. Good Luck.
it the 5th sticky, lots of info there about hard spl and troubleshooting

i was thinking the other day and came to wonder about hard SPL. we always stress to the n00bs that it is very VERY VERY important, but then i noticed that the htc rom tool in the kaiser kitchen has a place to build an spl into the rom. can't we just put the spl from hard spl into the rom tool on all of our cooked roms and save everyone a step later? i wasn't sure who to ask and i don't have a kaiser without hard spl with which to test this so i am asking anyone who can answer sorry if i'm not seeing why this can't be done
I think you've forgotten something.
HardSPL is needed to be able to flash your device. So even if HardSPL is baked into a custom ROM, it wouldn't matter. HardSPL has to be installed first, no matter what. Not having HardSPL installed would prevent you from flashing a ROM.
Luckily installing HardSPL ins't really that hard.
meschle's Artemis ROM's have two batch files.
#1 for HardSPL
And
#2 for the CustomRRU.
So First time flashers can't really go wrong.

Yeah but hard SPL does not always work the same way. Some get white screen. I got 3 devieces. All 3 original TyTN II's. First one (my first deviece) flashed spl easly. But the other 2 deviece were getting white screen. Finaly I managed to Hard SPl it but in a other way.

hard spl flashing...
hello skipper, thesire, and all others,
i wanted to reiterate that you should really read the forum linked above because it has a special "force usb" version of the hard spl installation that mau very well help you.
also, we could all maybe help you a bit more if you could post your firmware/spl versions (the numbers listed at top left on bootloader, but you probably knew that already, lol) Just so we can get a better idea of your situation- the more info the better!
i do a lot of kaiser and athena rom building, I posted a few decent roms at the beginning of the year but i havent released one since... (workin on one now though) but i am not exactly the caliber of rom builder that some of these guys are ... anyways, my point is that i have been in A LOT of hairy situations like this, but persistance is the key, so if i can help in any way i will....

hey genius you are replying to the wrong guy. I DID NOT make the post. The guy who did i already suggested the solution you provided (even before you did) under jockyw's hardspl thread where he posted the same exact problem ....
i have managed to get in to the bootloader to flash the hard spl, using the 1.56 ver of sspl..however,neither of all the hard spl works after that.i cant flash any of the hard spl packages. im really suprise this is happening as i have done a lot of flashing back and forth for my tytnII. oh yah,my spl is 3.29 from the official HTC WWE wm6.1
thanks for all the help..
I have an AT&T Tilt and would like to flash the firmware to the HyperDragon III which can be found in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397121
Following the directions in the TILT Specific Wiki, I flashed the HardSPL which was version 1.57.502.2. This was the file listed in the thread for the TILT.
Checking out the other threads in this forum, it looks like there are now HardSPL version in the 3 range like 3.07 3.28 3.29.
I'm confused if the file listed on the TILT Wiki was correct or if I actually need a different HardSPL file.
My other question is about Radio. I have read all the information about making sure that the radio on my phone will work with the rom that I would like to install.
What I cant seem to find though is how to check what radio my phone is currently using ?
Any help on this would be appreciated.
I know that answers are probably in the forum somewhere I just can't seem to find the right search string to pull it up.
Use the HardSPL found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922 (this is a sticky on the ROM dev page).
Here is a guide for Radios: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393182 - basically flash a radio onto your device and test it out. Different radios will give you better/worse battery life, affect connectivity, GPS, and the like. Performance varies by region and what ROM you have installed.
Here is another link you may find useful: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_Radio
Hope this helps.
So the newer versions of the HardSPL have the same benefits as the one I installed said it did ? Such as being able to go back to older, original roms and helping to protect against bricking ?

The 3.* versions of Hard Spl do the same as the 1.* versions - they allow you to flash cooked Roms. The 3.* have better compatability with WM6.1 than the 1.* versions, thats all.

Another question, I am trying to flash the new 3.56 HardSPL before installing the new Rom.
Do I need to use the SoftSPL even though I already have the 1.5x HardSPL installed or can I just run the update like normal.
Also, when trying to run the update like normal using the KaiserCustom RUU File, I run through the wizard and after getting my phone information it correctly shows that I currently have 1.5x, however it says that I will be updating to 1.00.000.0
Is this normal ? Or should it actually show that it is updating to 3.56 ?
yes thats normal one quick thing search for jockeys security unlocker that has saved many headaches

I don't believe anything has changed in regards to installing a HardSPL to a phone. I've been following the same procedures for the last year or two. The Jump Spl files are used when changing / updating your HardSPL via ActiveSync (the only way I do it). Following the instructions on the thread below works like a charm, I've never had a problem. The instructions say HardSPL v3.29, but you can use any of the current HardSPL's just the same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
Fair enough, as im used to just hardspl'ing the device rather than jumpspl then hardspl.. will do it by the book though when i get my new one (if i manage to sell my poxy blackberry!!!)
All the SPL types are on the SPL Questions wiki page in detail, so I'll save myself repeating.
The reason for the 1.* and 3.* different SPL versions is for WM 6.0 and 6.1 respectivly.
See my Hard SPL sticky for another breif overview.

I have flashed Haykuro new spl and his 6.0 build.
I was lucky i had the old phone and the new radio
and now we know that we can not reflash old radios with out risking bricking our phones.
I did not know that the radio had any thing to do with the spl.
(may be memory size and location)
My questions about the spl are this.
Was there a over site made / bugs with the old/new spls and radios?
When new radios come out, will we be risking bricking our phones by flashing them with this new spl installed?
With out Haykuro spl will we be increacing the chance of bricking our phones if we install new radios?
will the new spl be needed for all of Haykuro's new builds?
I have a fresh out of the box phone and the spl worked
I would like to know too! however it's difficult to say, we'll have to wait and see what happen when HTC roll out new radio in the future.
maybe haykuro can shed some light on this...
