Pedometer/step-counter fro HTC Touch Pro? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Anyone who knows if there's a step-counter app in the works?
Step-counters/pedometers are available in many shops, are recommended by healthcare professionals and there are pedometer apps for iPhone and Nokia N95, so I'm a little surprised there isn't one for HTC yet.
A pedometer is great for counting your total number of steps a day - something that can't be done by GPS/tracking solutions (as they don't work indoors, can't separate distances going by bus from walking and can't register small movement like frequently walking from an office desk to a nearby printer).
Anyone who knows more or have plans for developing such an application?
Thanks.

I am searching also

Im currently developing a pedometer, im hoping to have it finished within the next week.

Any progress on this?
i would really like to try it out!
Thanks

I sent him a message 1.5 weeks ago, asking about the development and how it was going. Here's his reply:
"Hi, The app is still in development, ive been busy over the past week, so havent had alot of time to work on it. As soon as its ready I shall release it for you on here."
So, if all goes well, I guess he will have it ready soon.
If you read this, s1nn0n, we really appreciate your work.

is it possible for it to say how long you have been walking/running? I run almost everyday changing my route and i wonder how much i run everytime. Thanks

Yes, a pedometer can help you tell approximately how far you have run (number of steps x average length of step). But you can also use GPS-tracking for this, like this: http://www.rungps.net
As mentioned above, however, GPS-tracking has its disadvantages if you want to count total steps a day, which sometimes is used as a health-parameter.

Pedometer would be great
I too am hoping to see a pedometer on the TouchPro (surprised no-one has built one for the Diamond yet either!)
GPS is good (I use SportsDo) but is pretty harsh on the battery and doesn't work too well when I'm indoors or in "urban canyons"

Bump. I also want this.

it's not a step counter, but it can measure your remote distance.maybe it helps a bit.

Google GPS without a GPS!!!!

Hey just thought id share this ran across it while on gsmarenaapparently google has just announced a new version of google maps that will tell u ur location within 1-2 km of u actual location and u dont need to have a GPS
i have used it and it tolod me my location within 500m
apparently it will use the tower that ur near to triangulate ur position
its great also has a meter to show how much KB`s ur transfering here the location http://www.google.com/gmm
enjoy!
Google Maps 2.x is nice, and thats an interesting feature, but for me it had my location about 2 miles from where I really was (my location was even outside of the circle it showed saying that I was somewhere inside that circle).
I've tried it in 3 places and same result in all three.
Ah well. Nice for getting a general idea of where you are, but don't expect to use it for real navigation
I tested this today driving down 45 miles of Los Angeles freeway and was literally shocked out how closely it tracked my location. Most of the trip it had me pinpointed (no range circle at all). Some locations it had to guess a range, between canyons or tall buildings.
I knew the towers could find your general vacinity, but had no idea they could come that close.
Neat feature!
any one have a package for this new google maps?
I like it. Now I'm not so pressed to get a phone with GPS. I guess if you're in a metro area it will work better (assuming more towers). I like how it even will do directions to addresses in the contact app.
Loved My Location for the 1 day I had it. I upgraded my AT&T 8525 from WM5 to the official htc WM6 Professional and now everytime I try to use My Location it tells me, "Your current location is temporarily unavailable." I think the answer to my problem and others who are experiencing it maybe be in Menu-.Options-> GPS settings, and properly configuring the My Location Settings. If anyone has a solution, any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Isn't that boost mobile (or whatever that company is). I wouldn't want that service. Talk about "Spyware". I'd imagine there are privacy laws against such a thing. Kind of like it being illegal (in the US) to record a phone conversation unless you let the person being recorded know about it.
hey yeah i get that sometimes here in pakistan but dont worry abt it just give it another try in a coupl eof minutes and it will show
hmm well in my case it pin points to about less than a km so its great and the details are great
enjoy everyone!
my experience
i used the new Version of Gmaps yesterday in the Atlanta/decuater area. i was on the free way on GA-400, I-285 & other various streets(in decuater,Ga).
on GA-400 i received a general 1,200 meters from exits 15-11. Ounce in a more populous area i was getting even better range within 1,000 meters or so.
i also started using the traffic Feature which provided me with information leading to make the decision to take I-285. on that highway i continued get about 1,00 meters ounce out of the red and into the yellow after the first few exits or so i got a real good distance was about 300 or so each time and continued until i got off the freeway though sometimes it had me on the opposite side. (though a quick "my location" and back where i belong) ounce off and on a suburban area with stores shopping centers and sub-divisions i had no idea where i was yet Gmap new the way. with finding my location every5 seconds i arrived about 10 minutes off of the expressway
oh and the addresses in the contact app is prty kool. like if you have a contact's adress stored on there number and click it
Not so good here in Central Oregon. It is showing my current location actually 37.5 miles SouthEast of my actual location. I don't understand the BIG discrepancy as the closest T-Mobile tower is less than half-a-mile from my current position.
Cool concept though.
this is just in Beta man. im sure itll get better & more precise later. at my house im about 1.1 miles from where i should be, but then again im in the country

I'm guessing that you really need to be covered by two or more towers for the location to be accurate.

That is what I was thinking. Now that google has released something like this I can imagine that anyone might break down the code and make it so they can track any phone?
I do a lot of visiting stores for my company and the last thing I want is someone knowing we are in the area by using something like this.
So I added it to my MDA and I get the screen that is blank for the most part with the little sqigglies in the square fashion.
Now is this becasue I don't have the Data or Hotspots plan??
I'm guessing that it won't work correctly (read: at all) unless I have one or both of these.
Can anyone shed some light? I'd really like to have this feature as well.
Thanks,
Ivan
the problem some of you dont realise is that if live in a small town with a little bit of cell towers than the acuracy is not that great. i live in nyc and the acuracy is pin point, perfect. it locates me exactly where i am and the more u use it the better it gets. remember it picks up your locstion by bouncing you signal off cell towers. less cell towerless accuracy, more cell towers greater the accuracy

[slightly off topic] The good aspects of the 21st century

There are several threads about how buggy HTC devices are and that almost all vendors release "unfinished" products so they can more quickly earn money with them and only at a later point the might fix the problems. I don't want to defend HTC or start an additional discussion of that kind but I want just to sate a positive statement as counterpart. I'm using HTC devices since the first one which came out and when I look back I find it amazing what's possible on today's PPCs. And to illustrate what I mean here is a list of things I do with my PPC:
Instant Email reception (pushmail) for Business Emails
Shared Calender (also instantly synched)
Shared with my colleagues
Shared with my wife - so normally my calender knows about family acitvity before I do
Using it as a torch (using hTorch of course )
Using it as alarm to wake me up
Using it as e-book reader for the daily newspaper I read
Using it to browse websites like this forum while lying in bed
Using it as a portable video player combined with PocketPlayer to watch selfmade DivX/XviD movies
Sometimes using the mentioned video payer in combination with TV out while traveling
Sometimes using the two above mentioned functions in combination with my bluetooth stereo headset
Using it as "external harddrive" - well with a 16GB microSD there is still plenty of space left even with iGO installed, a lot movies and music on the card
Using it for navigation with iGO
Using it for "GeoCaching" with my son
Using it to watch movie trailers with the youtube app while I'm bored at public transport f.e.
Using it as digital camera when I've forgotten my real one (as I do most of the time)
Using it to listen to music mostly with the stereo bluetooth headset which enables me to control the music player via the headset
Using the above mentioned function while jogging combined with a GPS tracking software to analyze the track afterwards
And when someone calls me during jogging my headset automatically witches to handsfree mode and I can communicate via the bluetooth headset without the need to put the PPC out of the pocket. After the call is finished the music continues automatically
Using it as Phone/SMS/MMS of course
Using eWallet to safly store all my passwords etc. (synced with the PC)
Using it to remotely control linux servers via SSH
Using it to remotely control windows servers via RDP
Using it to always have pictures of my family with me
And probably a few more things I didn't think of at the moment
I could probably state at least one bug about every point mentioned above. But that's not the point. My point is, that today a PPC is really a "Pocket PC" which enables me to do things I wouldn't have dreamed of a few years ago.
I really look forward to the years to come. And just to mention one very important additional aspect: My PPC wouldn't be worth half as much without this community! Microsoft and HTC should regularly donate instead of watching this community with Arguseyes.
Just my two cents which I had to state once.
PS.: Sorry for the slightly off-topic posting but since my impressions are related to my TP and a lot of people are whining about the TP's bugs I wanted to post it here.
"and just to mention one very important additional aspect: My PPC wouldn't be worth half as much without this community! Microsoft and HTC should regularly donate instead of watching this community with Arguseyes."
I totally agree you !! Thanks xda-developers and all members
@ DeepThought
Using it as a torch (using hTorch of course )
LOL
But you are right, it's really handy to have a flashlight at hand.
And I agree, without XDA-developers maybe I would not have a HTC anymore.
I'm really a bit disappointed with the Qualcomm chips.
I agree with every single thing you listed... although pitty is that you can't do all of this continuously for more than 3-4 hours.
I'm not complaining because I'm always near to an electric socket... but I wouldn't mind if the battery lasted a little bit longer ;-)

That's true. But on the other hand I do about two thirds of the list every day and the battery always lasts one average day for me (from ~0700 to ~2300). So it could be better of course but it could be much worse too.
Nice idea to put this all together on a post as some might have forgotten how cool it is to have just ONE device managing all these tasks! I fully agree with you on both - the features and bugs, but when reading posts like recently about where people complained about the poor graphics performance, I think to myself, hey, at least you CAN watch movies on it besides many other features lilke use it as audio player, use it as GPS system,.... and not to forget: use it as a mobile phone .
And if something does not run perfectly, well, it's annoying but having insight in today's software developing processes I only can say that HTC is not the worst performer there...
Just my 2 cents,
Cactus World

I think so too.
Using it as a Spying Utility, putting it in silent mode then letting it call any different phone number to listen in on what's going on.
Using it as a "Find The Thief that Stole My Phone" Utility.
Using it as a Video tape with the TV Out.
and off course for some of the unfortunate.
Using it as a PaperWeight, also off course made possible because of XDA

will be picking up either a focus s or titan in about an hour, question though

i'm jumping ship on android after many years and trading my atrix 2 in for one of the 2 for-mentioned. i'm leaning more towards the focus s since i do not like screen protectors and the focus s has GG.
however, my concern is the navigation. i know there's good navi apps on the market, but, they are $50! lol, and still don't look as good as google navigation.
does anyone know what MS has as far as features planned for tango or apollo? will bing maps ever be updated to more friendly navigation set?
also, google talk, how well does it work on wp7? gtalk is very important since it's the only way i communicate with my wife and friends (well, as far as chat/text goes, lol).

there is a five dollar turn by turn app that is actually quite good!
Just fyi
Also bing works for free, and will indicate when you make a wrong turn + say the direction if you tap the screen.
I bought navigon. I would have to say it's way better then google.
Turn by turn however is good. The online version is low cost but the offline version is 33.00 which at that amount you might as well by navigon and get 3d offline.

Dude, almost every post you've made in at least a week have been on the WP7 forums trying to criticize or talk down about the phone or to people asking questions about the phone. Yeah, you like Android. We get it. Why do you feel the need to come to another phone OS forum and sit around talking bad about it?

There is no native Google Talk client available for Windows Phone 7, but you do have options like IM+. IM+ actually works rather well and supports multiple IM services, even if it doesn't look as Metro as most apps do.

[App] [3.1+] WatchDog - Vehicle Alarm System

Hi,
I would like to introduce my newest application: WatchDog Alarm System. I built it to protect my KTM 990 Adventure R motorcycle from thieves and decided to publish it to the world for free.
I'll be very glad to get your feedback and tests on as much as possible different devices. tested it only on my Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Defy+
This application will help to protect any vehicle by examining their location and position relative to the ground by checking several sensors. If something is changed an alert will be sent to the user.
I love the final result and uses it every day.
App can be downloaded from: type: com.abware.watchdog_client in Google play store
Waiting for your feedback \ suggestions.
Thanks a lot!

How does this app work? You need two phones? One to notify you and one to store in the vehicle, that's not very practical? I don't understand...how can the phone left in the vehicle detect someone breaking your window or unlocking your door? The only thing I'd think that it would help if someone drove off with your vehicle...

Yes you need two phones and I think it's great. Forget about the word "phone", we need a black box with GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope and GSM. I checked Arduiono, Odroid, raspberry pi etc. much more expensive and too fragile. You have hundreds of cheap phones containing all needed sensors, reliable, dust/water proof So why not use them?
It works perfect with motorcycles. you have no door/window and even the slightest move/shake of the bike will trigger the alarm workflow.

^this.
Guys,
The agent device (the phone in the vehicle) doesn't need internet connection. It uses Google Cloud Messaging by default but if there is no internet connection available it automatically switches to SMS communication.
Don't know about prices in U.S. Here in Israel, we have basic service which costs 2.5$ / month including free SMS and 10MB data (every extra MB costs ~1 cent) so comparing it to 2500$/year of comprehensive insurance for my motorcycle - it's really a money saver for me.
Such stupid complaints, how else can it inform you if it doesn't have a second phone, by messenger pigeon? I'm a biker too and I think this is great, there are several tracker systems out there most of which can cost a good deal of money and might require long contracts, so I'm delighted to see this. Many thanks to the developer!

is no one concern about the edge sense failure in the announcement?

I saw the phone's announcement, and in my opinion they should never let Charlie Chang present a phones again.
It was one of the most awkward announcements I watched. He looked like he is going to explode, and every feature he presented it looked like he is praying to god that it will work.
but that's one thing.
during the presentation he tried to activate google assistant through the Edge Sense, and it didn't work, then he tried again and it failed again, then he made the most awkward "ooopss" he could make, while trying again couple of times until he continued presenting the google assistant without mentioning or talking about the incident (which is understandable but still troubling).
the weirdest thing is that I can't find any review or post that talks about it, I thought the press will destroy Htc for this screw up.
for me it's really troubling, this gimmick can be nice, but it's the first time we see something like this on any phone and I have doubts about its quality.
what do you think?
Meh, to say that I've never had stuff like that happen on any phone I've owned would be a huge understatement.
Had a unit in hand to test it one week ahead of the official announcement. On my test unit the Edge Sense worked really good, after getting accustomed after the first 30 Minutes and configuring it to my pressure sensitivity in settings.

Jeah some other people already tried Edge Sense and said something similar like @5m4r7ph0n36uru said. Its working okay or good - better then many expected. But for me its just a nice to have. Lets see how much they can improve this feature with future Software updates. Maybe its just a feature that ends up being a public prototype which would also be okay. If this feature is any good they will probably improve the hardware behind it in a future device.
I mean its the same with the fingerprint scanners, the first and even second version in the iPhone was quite bad in my opinion. The one in the 6s is good, but the ones before where too slow and the failure rate was too high (for me).

I wouldn't read too much into it - could be nerves, could be the phone wasn't set up properly for him, old software, etc.
Microsoft launched a version of windows (I think it might have been Win98) and during the launch they encountered the Blue Screen Of Death... it didn't seem to have much impact on their future!
I'm not too worried. If it doesn't work well I will just disable it. The phone is still nice.

They will update it. As HTC told in the same briefing, they are already planing to implement Double-Tab as a possibility to take further actions with Edge Sense, though they couldn't tell the date at this time but only that it is on the list. So I guess they are definitely planing to implement more gestures by such a step making short press, long press and double press available. With two different force settings, this would give us six gestures in total to configure for separate actions.
Something further is App based actions that'll be implemented to change the action resulting from a short press depending on the App you're using.

I hope so and i am sure they will but all I'm saying is that the hardware will be limited like i said with the fingerprint or another example the pressure sensitivity from the surface pen. In the first iterations it only had 256 different steps now they have around 2000. (not sure about the exact numbers here )
My hope is not too big about this squeeze feature in the first iteration but i am curious and will give it a try.

I thought the same Totally agreed with you... But I'm still buying the phone.. I hope after 1-2 updates it will work better.
I am lucky I wasn't in his shoes. Very awkward indeed. His hands were shaking.
I don't think it will damage sales. And in a live event anything can happen.
I don't think it even had to do with edge sense TBH... I think it had to do with the assistant apps themselves and probably the internet connection within the venue.
Mine works well do far. I just need to remember about it. I've left it starting the camera and it's good.
Honestly, I was hoping the edge sense would have worked just as the early videos showed of a couple walking the street and navigating the app drawer with the edge. Maybe version 2. But that was sick!

Can't say I've every been walking the street and needed to navigate the app draw. I have shortcuts for everything already. Actually only time I navigate the app draw is when I'm adding a shortcut lol. But I see what you saying. Maybe if they added volume up down or scrolling, but don't think that's how it works.
well... it would probably have worked better if she took them off..
