Well its 2 July 2008, its a really hot day (here in Greece) and I am tired of flashing more and more ROMS to my UNI. It's not only flashing but the boring procedure of installing software. If you see the other devices forum, the people there more happy with the releases (just see the small brother of our UNI, wizard (qtek9100 etc) it has many roms that are years after Universal roms. We have the problem that we have VGA screen, but I thing we can do smth better.
Can we make a team of donators (and testers both) and invite any cooker that will make a GREAT rom for everyone????
example:
If 50 users donate 20$ each = 1000$ = a good motive for cookers.
The name of the rom would be UCP (Universal Conspiracy Project) + the name of the cooker/team.
I 'm waiting your opinion and ........members

1) It wouldn't be good, the members would be put on randsom..cookers could then take advantage to mint money. I am a cooker and I can tell you that I wouldnt suggest it though I'm sure no one minds "free money".
2) if you want a great rom..contact a cooker and offer to pay them directly (you'll get through cheaper) - I'm honestly saying this, because this sort of thing happened (Ransom) for the Athena Project..no names or targets, but everything revolved around money.
3) You could go with that if you really want to though...but if flashing is the issue you could stick to a single rom and just wait...the time frame waiting on one cooker (eg. Tomal since you use his roms alot), and let him cook at his pace. If there are multiple cookers together (cartel) it will take much longer (with internal issues as well). Refer to the Athena Project....
Just my opinion since I saw alot of stuff happen on other projects...which wouldn't mind repeating here as well if we "PAID". I know its more like a contribution but once you make it clear you're going to pay or "offer money" for development...the idea of a community like xda begins to break and mess up...thats only going to make cookers and others expect to be paid for releases - if not the Universal forum the entire board and all the threads here...Cookers outside universal will follow a similar trend...the reason I started cooking was not to bother people with too many flashses but rather to design new roms and cook new things and offer to the community...
We're already paying Microsoft ( & HTC) a great deal....
I love the idea of working together on a project..but when you add money...though for the BEST INTENTIONS...they cause lots of problems..
Best Regards,
No Rom Bountys
I have to agree.
This is not the place to offer money for cooking.
Developers are here because they enjoy what they do, and enjoy sharing it with the community. Donations are fine, but offering to pay for Dev time will cause so many problems.
The main issue, and one of the reasons I have been so quiet with Rom Development for so long is that there are many users on this forum now, who seem to think they have a right to demand things from a Developer, and go as far as flaming a Developers work.
Never forget what this site was created for, for like minded "Developers" to get together to work on reverse engineering the software and improving the use, functionality and features of their devices.
There are far too many users here, who can not spend a bit of their own time reading up on the information provided (free of charge) that gives them greater knowledge and understanding of their device, it's functions and how to use the software available here.
Unfortunately the site has become full of demanding people who want a perfect Rom, exactly the way they think it should be done, and so they demand and criticise the Developers, bugging them in their threads and requesting time and time again, functionality that is not important to the particular Developer that they are targeting. This only leads to one thing, the Developers gets annoyed, loses interest and moves on to another forum or stops Developing altogether.
Feedback from users is great on the work that we do, the site would be useless without user feedback, but all said and done, we are all here to better our knowledge and help others resolve their problems.
We do not provide a software customisation and "help me un brick my device, because I can't be assed to read the Wiki" service.
All in all if you wish to have a Rom customised to your own needs and are willing to pay for it, them PM one of the senior Developers who's been around for a while and ask politely if they would be interested in doing so for you. I doubt you would get much response though as most of us do it for the community, not the individual.
There are plenty of people who sell roms on Ebay, perhaps you could ask them too. (although most of what they sell has been hijacked from here)
All the Developers here, share ideas and information on bugfixes, tweaks and porting issues, that's the idea of the community.
Rant over.
Cheers,
Beasty
I also agree it is a bad idea to let the 'money' element come into the community. I have personally seen devs and testers get burned because things went sore cause of 'immature testers/users' or 'deva-devs' who think they are the best and don't open up to the idea of sharing for the common good.
At the end of the day it really boils done to what motivates a person to do what they do. Allow me to be the first to say that this board is one of the best on the WEB...I consider it one of my virtual homes because I have made a few friends alone the way and learned a lot of crap too
I donate because I want to help, that's my way of saying to the community I appreciate all the 'love' and keep up the good work. Also, because it is my 'home' I want to see it improve. I have also engaged a few 'devs' direct when I wanted a particular cab built or a rom tweaked...so maybe you can do that (but of course manners maketh the man) however you need to show respect and not come off as a jerk
Cheers...
Youmeus
Agree!
Hi
I´m just a simple user, but since I got to this fantastic forum I´ve tried to READ, LEARN & RESPECT others people hard work for the UNI´s.
I think ROM devs have a lot of patience on all of us that only demmand things from them, if in some point they get tired of all of us, this forum and our UNI´s would be death.
I kindly ask all normal and simple users as me to respect Devs not asking so many things but yes contributing with feedback to their important work.
Let´s keep moving forwards and with good energy!
Best to all
Gracias
i don't agree with that idea of paying the cookers. it is because i believe they cook out of their passion to share and to improve themselves, not to earn a living.
money cant buy their hard works........

hmm, i don't believe if the cookers are motivated by money
i just believe that they are motivated by fun and sharing with others
money they got does not enough for their hard works and their knowledge has been sharing
honestly, i want make donation for them, for their fun shared for me
but, i never make donation for them, because i don't have any paypal account to make it possible
and, to appreciate what they have done
i never think that one ROM is better than the others, no ROM is best
because it has been developed by their fun and knowledge, to be shared to others
and, hey, sorry
if you don't like what they've done, just leave this forum
just take it or leave it, easy

hey that was just my opinion, I didn't say smth about our cookers, and I 'm thankfull for their hard work.
I have more than 3 different ppc's (UNI,WIZARD,HIMA and htc3600) and I can make a comparison to htc's roms that is good working or not. BUT THIS IS JUST MY OPINION. The thought of my post is just for a competition of cookers and the money is an award for their work (and maybe a try from other device's cooker/developers). Maybe it's right, maybe it's wrong.
Everyone have to say their thoughts without shouting and without offend ANYONE. Thats Democracy.
It's my decision If I leave or not this forum.

i think that's the point of many of us here. There is no room for COMPETITION here. this site is built for each one of us to HELP each other, the developers/cookers learn from the feedbacks, the end-users benefit from the output of the cookers. if you want it to be like a CONTEST, cookers themselves will not share their ideas to other cookers. They will not help other developers since only one cooker will win in your "competition"...
i bought the Uni for profess. work -- but feel like a beta tester
hallo michalis031,
maybe good idea. I bought the Uni to earn money -- intended to help me to become more efficient.
Result?
- System (too) often hangs or reboots (no error messages!)
- active sync does not work properly (sometimes o.k., minutes later errors )
- callers often only hear my 30s-answering machine -- slow respond to incoming calls (!!)
... only to mention the most annoying subjects...
Who has better ideas to make this great little machine a real professional one?? I am ready to pay for excellent work -- and this is the only thing i expect to get.

Very true.... right on the mark.
I have to agree with the majority on here, as a tinkerer I find that the forum is very expansive to those that are willing to read and not just post "help me unbrick my uni" posts.
If I had the techincal skills and time I would love to start cooking, but most of all I would do this for the good of the forum and not to line my own pockets. I hope I am right in asuming that the majority of cookers are profesional coders in another line of work and do this for the fun of the chalenge, this is very admirable.
Also the lack of finacial incentives and deadlines allows the dev's the chance to tweak and bug fix to the level that they wish and not just to get by with what they can do in the time space.
In reply to the post "I bought mine for business", I would say that you made a mistake to consider unlecking and adding new roms if you were to rely on the uni to help you earn money. I also got my 2 uni's for business, one is a test bed of software from this forum and my main phone / pda, the other is left as OEM just to be sure I have a totally working Uni.
Please dont push the dev's into not enjoying what they do best. Keep ROM's free, but if you wish to pay just give them a donation. Im sure they would thank you for it.
Dave.
Hello munkey_bwy,
I appreciate your opinion. Thx.
Bought a 2nd Uni with WM5, installed patches to add some missing WM6 functions, and even my 100+ programs. It runs with an acceptable speed. I am really happy.
Mod: Please feel free to move this thread anywhere you feel appropriate. I was thinking of creating it in "Off topic" but afraid they might not see it. My apology for wasting your time :-(
Anyway, Thanksgiving is around the corner for some of us in the U.S. The intention of this thread is to give some of us an opportunity to say "Thank You" to all the chefs for all their wonderful work. I know we said plenty in their ROM's thread, but this is special without clustering their thread.
I want to personally say thank you to the following chefs for their wonderful ROMs. I know there are many out there, but these are the one that I use (order of chefs has nothing to do with the quality of their ROMs. They all GRRREATT!!).
1/ Laurentius26
2/ -G-
3/ abusalza
4/ sakajati
5/ mbarvian
Thank you...Hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving day (11/27/2008) from Bay Area California, whether you celebrate it or not.
Amen Brother. Thanks from Idaho!!
I agree, Thanks from California!
Plus to more chefs
i too would like to say thanks, adding Ruppy & Alex.
From Maryland USA... Happy Turkey Day to all, and to all a good night. (oh wait, that's later)
Thanks
I agree too, from Campeche, México. Regards
THXS!!!
Thank you all for your time, effort and ofcourse for the roms you keep producing and the knowledege you provide us with...I would have thrown my kaiser against the wall a 1000 times if not for you guys....
+Bengalih
Same here - THANKS TO ALL THE WONDERFUL CHEFS, YOU GUYS MAKE OUR DEVICES HAVE PRODUCTIVE PURPOSES OTHER THAN BEING A PAPER WEIGHT, THANKS AGAIN!!! - Glendale Heights, Illinois.
i would also like to thank the chefs for being the only reason an htc phone is still worth buying.
+ pdacorner
+ anthine
I also would like to say thank you to all the wonderfull works of all the chefs and moderator here from this site, i admit that without this site i wouldn't more appreciated my HTC devices. Thank you again.
Agreed! Happy thanksgiving to everybody!!! Hope we get some good thanksgiving meals! Oh wait, we might have them already
+1 All Around!! -Apologies for the insanely long Thank You post-
I had originally had a giant reply typed out then decided to do the spell check feature annnnd it promptly refreshed my page and deleted EVERY BIT OF MY REPLY!! lol
So, we'll make this relatively short:
Chefs: You guys simply OWN. Everything. Period. The end. lol I would have already destroyed my TILT had it not been for you guys and all of your insanely hard work. I've tried my hand at cooking but I've come up rather empty-handed. I managed to make a working Apache ROM but can't make a successful one for the Kaiser and I know how much work I put into trying to make it work so I can only imagine how much time and effort you guys really put into making these works of art. HTC and the various carriers really owe you guys a hhuuggee THANK YOU and wouldn't kill them to toss you guys a few dollars here and there for what you guys do. While PDAs may be popular in the business world, XDA and all the chefs and contributers have made them something that new phone users all the way to uber tech geeks would love. I do believe that had it not been for this site and all the people involved that a LOT more people would be stuck with generic phones (not to knock companies like Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Apple...ok...so I'll bash Apple for hours lol...but HTC has all but run away with the PDA market and I love it) that wouldn't or couldn't do half of what they want. A big complaint I hear from people is that the stock PDA ROMs are too hard to work with or is just too much phone but once they see what all customizations that XDA offers and just how easy this place has made it to break free of crummy stocks then they jump at the chance to have a phone that they both love and can effectively use so, with that being said:
HTC!!! SUPPORT THESE PEOPLE!!! THEY KEEP YOU EMPLOYED AND KEEP YOUR PHONES FLYING OFF THE SHELF!!!
=]
I do believe that this site should be on the company payroll lol
One of my biggest reason that I stuck w/ my TILT was the fact that I stumbled across this site while looking up info on it and was THRILLED to see what all I could do with it. (All we need now is a motion sensor and some REAL 3D drivers **hint hint hint hint @ HTC** and TRUE TouchFlo 3D support lol)
Anyways, so much for that being short =]
I just appreciate you guys so much more than you'll ever know.
There have been soooo many times that I have wanted to simply DESTROY my TILT for not having something or not doing what it's supposed to but then I hop on here and VIOLA! I find just what I needed to know to fix it.
I don't think I've ever been as happy with a phone as I have been with my TILT and I've owned a LOT of phones and even used to work for a third-party retailer of AT&T and Sprint phones so I got to play with a LOT of different phones (which include the Samsung Instinct, the LG Vu, the Palm Centro, a trillion different variations of Sony Ericssons, several BlackBerrys and even the oh-so-disappointing Apple iPhone) and I always laughed when people asked me which phone I owned and when I pulled it out of the case they'd all just stare at it and drool over it (and it's nicely customized ROM. No more ugly stock rom =D ) Needless to say that I think me carrying my TILT around at work probably killed a few of our phone sales since the only place we offered it was online and the AT&T corp store had it in-store lol
So thank you, thank you, and THANK YOU!! =]
You guys rock!
Happy Turkey Day to all from the great state of Alabama and here's to all of the awesome people here in our XDA family!
NOW GO EAT SOME TURKEY!!!!!!!!!!
I just picked up my first PPC, the FUZE like a week and a half ago... knew nothing about flashing or even installing apps. Flashed ROMeOS yesterday and am loving it!
Thank Chefs!! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone
Okay, now that you're all curious..
This thread will sum up quickly the last month of hard work, and who deserves the credit. Everyone who deserves serious rep will be in bold, anyone who deserves acknowledgement will be in italics.
- xmoo and his source release a leaked copy of the HTC Magic "system" folder.
- xda members start to frantically get the system folder to boot.
- I go on the forums and try to persuade everyone to listen to me and fail to get anyone to care.
- I decide to take it into my own hands and get that m.f. to run.
* build 4 is released (builds 1,2, and 3 were in house builds until i made the build somewhat usable.)
- barakinflorida suggests that i put open home as the default home application to give you guys a GUI.
* build 4.5 is released
- After 2 days I received an OTA update while testing the 4.5 build and manage to track down where HTC is releasing updates.
- Playing with it for a bit I ported the first successful cupcake build.
* build 5.0 is released
- Some days go by for fixing bugs and sorting stuff out.
- dream_kill shows me how the boot works on the device, and how to fix wifi/bluetooth (simply changing something from sapphire to trout).
- fnord, Darkrift, and I work out how to get apps to sd working on cupcake (cupcake uses vold instead of mountd)
* this is now at build 5.0.1
- an anonymous tipster gives me the system directory to another build based on the vodaphone magic.
- I port that over to the dream again
* G build is released
- Daproy starts building kernels for me with built in ext2 and other goodies, bringing easier apps to sd and other nice features.
- At this point everything is pretty much going pretty smooth, I got a new SPL, new radio, and cupcake is running pretty much on everyones phone. (this was my initial goal, give cupcake to the community )
some days go by...
- Dude compiles the latest cupcake build from source and uses Daproy's, and my, boot image and other pieces (refer to his thread for what exactly) to have a nice working source based build.
- HTC releases ADP 1.5
- I mod ADP 1.5 and release the "root" build.
* ADP1.5H (yes the H stands for haykuro, not HTC.)
- Daproy cooks up a multi-touch kernel for the ADP builds.
- JesusFreke helps me through my compiler troubles and builds the multitouch browser.
* ADP1.5Hr3
this is pretty much it guys. no need to argue.
Me and Dude are friends, he has been very understanding and asks my permission before using any of the parts of my builds.
This is a developers community, and open source supportive.
I want to take a second and make sure everyone understands none of what we have today would be possible if it wasn't for 4 main players.
xmoo releasing the HTC image.
me porting the image.
Daproy building those wonderful kernels.
JesusFreke lending a hand when needed.
I want to thank everyone mentioned above for all of the hard work!!!
Much Appreciated!!!!
Haykuro = greatness!!
Thanks for posting this Hayruko. Those of us that have been following from the beginning (I started with 4.5G) or close to it knew this timeline pretty well, but there seems to be some misconceptions out there now that 1.5 has exploded. Many might think this is a pointless thread, but I like that someone is finally standing up and saying that this isn't a competition between You, Dude, and JF, working fervently to have the best build, but a collaboration between you all and many other hardworking devs, to give us all the best homebrew ROMs available. I wish everyone would stop the "Which is better" or "Just wait until JF gets involved, he'll kill Hayruko's stuff" discussions, pick a build that suits them, and be happy. There's plenty of cupcakes to go around.
Definatly a big thanks to everyone. I don't know what drives some members to shun ANYONE, not just those above for optionally helping them. The idea of Open Source is to help spread knowledge from everyone to everyone. The greatest learning experience. Yourself and among countless others have helped evolve the use of Android and the G1, and there isn't a single person on this forum that shouldn't be grateful for the hard work and countless hours you've slaved to do this work on your own time.
I'm sorry we have some of the members we do here, but on behalf of those that don't wish to speak their names and hide in the darkness.
THANKYOU!!!!!
thank you guys for all the hard work u guys done for us ! XDA DEVELOPERS #1 FORUM ! GOGOGO !
That's actually an interesting build ........... well done guys (& girls?)
Love the work you bring to the community here!
There is no "I" in T-E-A-M!!

On a serious note.... Thanks to all who have contributed to the advancement of android!
You guys are all amazing. Thanks for all your hard work.
Maybe you dont understand what open source means, The whole point of android was a open source projects that would remain open and free. Any TRUE open source developer knows and understands this and does the work not to get paid, But to help out a community. Yes there is a way to make money, And yes some people are making money from their apps, But that was never the point of a open source community, People contributed for the common good of the community not to get rich... But i am a capitalist and understand the all mighty dollar...

Lol @ darkrift. Agreed w/all above. Someone recently (don't remember who) brought up how roms are cooked for other HTC phones...and the fact that there are tons of customs for those w/ unique apps for each. We should be celebrating these guys with thanks for providing each something different to the open source community.
Ps. Tehseano I like your new sig.
To all devs who participated.....
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR AWESOME WORK!!!! Thank you all for your knowledge & watermelon sized cojones (each), for flashing the first releases & being fearless of the outcome, as well as moving forward at a blazing speed. I sincerely thank you for your hard work, and for making me look cool by being the first person around that I know with a working video camera on their G1!!!!
First and foremost I would to say THANK YOU to all involved.
Second; I imagine you guys are using IRC to keep in constant contact? If not I suggest we put together a IRC room for this board so all can idle, and discuss ideas.
Thank all of you guys...loving my G1 even more...personally I don't know how much I'd like my phone if not for all the mods.
Keep up the great work.
Can't wait until you guys begin compiling 100% custom builds...muahahahhahah...one can hope.
thanks so much guys! it just cant be said enought how much your work is appreciated.. i hated my g1 like a mofo, now i cant think of having any other phone!
Hello.. My name is Joel.. .and I am a FF'er.. Frequest Flasher... for the last 2 weeks I think I flashed my phone at LEAST once a day... and just wanted to say.. and give a HUGE thanks to Justanothercrowd, Drizzy and anyone else who helped create JacHero.. This latest 2.6.3 version runs by far the best out of all the releases I have tried. It is stable, pretty quick.. has the least amount of lag.. and is overall a GREAT release..
I would have just left a compliment in your release thread.. but It is growing so large, I feel a compliments thread is appropriate and leave the official thread for ?'s and ROM specific talk..
* To the mods.. sorry if this is inappropriate for the section... if you do insist on deleting.. can you at least leave for a short period of time for those that wish to give their thanks!
Thanks to all of the contributors of XDA! You all are great!
Good Work
I tried it, thought it was brilliant, but couldn't get my bluetooth headset working, so in the end had to go back to cyanogen.

well keep a good eye on the hero releases! because soon enough (if you've been watching them anyway) they'll be fixing the bluetooth! its been a huge bugger since the beginning with all of the hero builds, same with the LED lights. so far they can turn on BT via terminal! so thats pretty close!
STAY TUNED! you'll be shocked at how awesome it'll be
Lol I agree with the OP. Absolutely oustanding job by everyone. Cyrowski, db.hates.you. revox, JAC, drizzy, etc...
I like this thread, I want to say thanks but not blow up the dev thread (however this is questionable because this is still the dev sub category in the forum). So to all the developers a big thanks from Seattle/Tacoma Washington! Great work and because of this sort of community and tinkering I will never own an iPhone. It makes having the phone that much more fun =)

To all the developers - great job creating roms, recoverys, themes, etc.
Mainly Haykuro, Jac, db.hates.you., JesusFreke, Drizzy Drake Rogers, Cyanogen, and android.
Good Luck to all of them and keep the updates coming
I have to agree as well. The latest build is working great even on my class 2 memory card. A bit of lag never hurt anyone. The devs have been working tirelessly to give us a build that it stable enough for day-to-day use. I'm sure they still have a few tricks up their sleeves and can't wait to see what's coming down the pipeline.

Hey Plz read this a creation of a community rom you should be thinking what well:
I am thinking of the creation of the rom called "The Ultimate Rom" for G1/MT3G and hope it also moves onto newer phones as you can see the G1/MT3G is starting to fade as the newer phones begin to be born and because of this I believe we should make a community rom where not only the devs can join in but the community weather it be graphics to sounds I believe we all should be able to join in so I would like to get some help on making it come true I believe there should be a rom we as the community should be happy for that we all chipped in and made something truly amazing ^^
PS: And mods plz don't delete this for being in the Dev section I believe it is about Devs and I would like you to be part of this rom as well ^^
Hoping to start 4th of july so getting everyone ready to put stuff in or ready for it to start ^^
0o ill list down every single person no matter how big this gets up till july 4th and after july 4th and even testing is fine ^^
If it works or not at least we would had tried and at least even if we do fail we have gained knowledge, experience and had fun
A POLL WILL BE MADE TOMORROW SO THE COMMUNITY CAN CHOOSE WHAT THEY WANT ^^ AND ANY OTHER NEW ADDED STUFF THERE WILL BE A LIST TO ADD TO ^^

It's funny how he always comes back to G1/Mytouch Forums Update his roms with already released things, renames them and then asks for money for a mytouch slide... He is using the community to get him new phones... Anyway back on subject
Got like 4 people now 5 almost

.
I can't help..but I'll test anything that pops off
Please. We've been down this road before. When the glory and satisfaction of solo or small team ROMs isn't in play, development suffers. We need creative individuals pushing the limits to advance the scene, and unless they have their name on the ROM, things will slow down. This goes for life (free enterprise vs. socialism) and ROM dev.
Also, keep in mind, all the ROMs are community! There are thousands of man-hours of work already in every aspect of Android. The ROMs we see build on all that. This is a solution in search of a problem.

lol I have created over 7 successful roms some in a small team others in a big team lol and it worked out xD and I would disagree check I left a bit ago about a month if that lol and no everyone should get a chance not just one person thats just selfish also I think if one big rom is made we can keep some G1/MT3G users for longer lol we need something new and exciting can't you see that ^^ well whatever you say I will try and continue this IDK if it will work or not THE THING IS EVERYONE WOULD HAVE FUN TRYING ^^
If you are serious about this, I think it's a dumb idea. The best thing about having a rooted Android phone is that you can choose whatever ROM suits you.
Personally, I want a fast Donut ROM. I don't care for all the extra bells and whistles in SuperD/CM4/etc and I don't have any interest in running an Eclair ROM as I don't think they perform well enough on our phones. Given the popularity of OpenEclair/SuperE/CM5, there are obviously other people who feel differently and I expect a vast number of people here wouldn't switch back to Donut if you paid them.
There will never be "The Ultimate ROM" because everyone's needs and wants are different. Just let devs make what they will and let users choose what they want.
i have very little experience in the overall creation of the rom, however i am very willing to learn more and would jump at the opportunity to be of any help, if someone was willing to show me a little bit of how this all works i am positive i can be of great help.
To me I could care less about credit.... I rather help where I can then be selfish... Knowledge isn't a competition, it is a struggle as a group I would love to learn what I don't and Help others where I can Ego is the one thing that could destroy this project ...
SpeedTeam is there whenever you need us....Right K =)

I swear, when I read this, it sounded like you died from lack of oxygen at the end. Please, for the sake of readers, could you use punctuation? Throw a few commas and periods in there.
As for the idea, I would flash a beta version or two, but I can't see this working out as well as some might hope. There will always be disagreements. Some people want 2.1, others, 1.6. Some like SenseUI, and others don't. Words like "perfect" and "ultimate" are very subjective to whoever reads them.
Good idea, probably very hard to execute. Good luck.
