According to the rumors the Samsung Mirage (Omnia) or HTC Fuze (Touch Pro) will be coming to at&t within two days of each other. I fell into the iPhone 3G hype and ditched my Tilt for the iPhone. I have seen the error of my ways and want to come back to Winmo.
While the iPhone has its drawbacks, I have fallen in love with the large screen of the iPhone (and have missed the large screen from leaving the Blue Angel for the Apache and then the Tilt) Additionally I really like most of the specs of the Mirage (Omnia) over the Fuze (Touch Pro). However I love the support and tweaking available from the awesome chefs here at xda developers, and would miss it tremendously.
So if you currently had an iPhone, and were going to buy a new Winmo device from at&t at the end of October, which would it be? Mirage or Fuze
I'm not so sure I could go back to a device without a keyboard... If I did, it'd be the Touch HD, not the Omnia.

I am somewhat of a phone freak so I will get the Fuze or Mirage at the end of October and then switch to the HD when it has at&t 3g capability (if ever)
Eh, I love phones too but I don't think I could buy a phone just to have it for a few months and sell it... I'd lose my upgrade, extend my contract for 2 years... For me that's a big issue, I'm on a family plan with my mom right now and she wants me off!
I've already played with the Fuze for close to a month and made money off of it, so I'll have no problem waiting for the Touch HD... Hopefully.
Hi,
I had the same isue as you but then with the original products.
It actualy is very easy to decide. Both products are very different. So just make a list of your Need to have, nice to haves.
I have bought the touch pro because the Omnia doesn't have a standerd usb and the camera isn't that important for me. btw, I really like the optical mouse on the Omnia.
I also used http://www.infinitube.net/ to watch reviews (and bashings) of the Omnia, Xperia and the Touch Pro.

AJ

it sounds like the touch pro (raphael) is coming to at&t as the fuze. that's great and all, with the slick full vga screen etc... but why is the diamond not going to be offered?
when most people see our ppc phones, they think brick. yes the keyboard is nice, but i can type pretty dang fast with the on screen keyboards, and look at the raphael side by side with the kaiser, it's still huge!
the diamond is pocketable, a good business device, and the type of design that needs to continue in order to stop everyone from getting an iphone!
the xperia is a step in the right direction with the keyboard, but i truly can't understand how adding a keyboard to a diamond almost triples the size!
any thoughts?
AT&T picks and chooses what it offers. Since it has that exclusive agreement with Apple why would it offer a "rip off" (Not my Term, AT&T's Term) iPhone?
I will be looking out the next couple months for an actual release date. I wonder what the will offer it for? I am thinking $600-$700 compared to everyone else. I would love to upgrade from my Tilt for Diamond Pro. I have 2 lines eligible for upgrade next month. Kevin
The Pro is just the next evolution from the Tilt, its a no brainer for ATT to pick this up. They have never had a "Touch" Winmo phone either as the phones with keyboards are easier to market as "business class" devices. Thats my guess as to why they didn't pick up the Diamond. I cant wait for the Pro personally. My iPhone can only hold my attention for so long before I have to get another WM device.

fyi...keep an eye on this thread for the fuze latest & greatest news
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417844
I've been hearing about the Fuze for a few days now, it seems it will be out soon, hopefully. Then maybe Verizon will eventually take some initiative to get better devices, and put out some updates for crying out loud! I sometimes want to punch the verizon guy in the face!
Hey Raphael / Touch Pro users...
The Touch Pro was recently released in South Africa and im considering the move from my TyTN II to the Touch Pro!
There is alot of nice looking technology in the Touch Pro and its a beautiful looking device... Im just wondering if people are as unhappy after moving to the Touch Pro as they were after moving to the TyTN II / Kaiser???
Im enjoying the TyTN II, after alot of tweaking i managed to get it feeling good and with the addition of CorePlayer 1.2.5 we can now get around the disgusting video playback issue!
So my question is...
Is the Touch Pro worth it??
What do you guys think??
Thank you!!!!!!
I think it's pretty much on what you need? TP is my first WM device and I'm had up and downs experience. I know it's a new product but just the simple phone function is having issue (not for everyone, I have the mute problem).
I like the screen resolution, the speed is acceptable. The design is great. Anyway it's a cool phone. If you love tech and have the budget, TP sure a nice toy to play around with.
I'm still using my Kaiser as well, but yes I was very happy with the upgrade.
Next is replacing the Diamond with the Touch HD
It's a good question. I heavily used a TYTN II in place of a Blackberry and when I changed jobs in September I bought a Touch Pro and don't use it as much for email anymore, but still use this functionality.
The only thing I miss is the jog wheel, that was very handy although "flicking" the screen to scroll through the mail is just as easy - just different. It's what you get used to.
I have found a number of bugs with the Touch Pro that have been widely discussed on this forum such as GPS lag, answering calls whilst in your pocket etc etc but have cured almost all of them again thanks to responses on this forum.
The Touch Pro is asthetically pleasing where as the TYTN II was purely function over form, and it has really nice touches - such as FM Radio, Opera, YouTube player all built in.
However, am I completely satisfied with the Touch Pro ? No, not completely. The GPS issue is a particular problem as I use it fairly frequently, and I'm noticing that there is an occasional breakup of or jump of sounds - voice calls, MP3's, SMS message tones - like an old record jumping - which to me take the "polish" of an otherwise accomplished device.
If I had to spend my money again at this point in time, I would be hanging on to see what the Xperia was like and then choosing - I will be watching that one with interest myself !
Hey guys!
Thanks very much for the replies, especially Half Penny, that was a very comprehensive reply
Ive only been using HTC devices for 2 months, but ive moved fairly quickly through devices, P4350 -> TyTN I -> TyTN II and i must say that ive come to love the HTC quality, the feel and just the way everything works, which makes me immediately hesitant to move to the X1!
The other issue i have with the X1 (and the Touch HD) Is the WVGA resolution, im worried about compatibility with existing apps, games etc! The X1 is also (in my opinion) an ugly looking device... But (considering i was a TyTN I owner hehe) this doesnt bother me that much!
I want the hardware keyboard, its the reason i moved from "regular" cellphones to these devices, so all the other HTCs and various other devices are ruled out because of lack of the hardware keyboard!
I was hoping that the Touch Pro would iron out a few issues HTC were facing, the poor video playback, the poor 3D performance etc etc... To be honest, if this isnt the case and im not missing that much, i might stick with the TyTN II for a year or so and see what happens (unless i pick up a Touch Pro for a bargain hehe), i love the tilting screen, its something ive come to use alot and im unsure as to why they decided to not include it in their new devices!
Anyway guys, i just thought id open this 1 up for discussion, thanks alot for the great input so far
Pro's and Con's
Whilst the TyTn II is not the most exciting looking device HTC came out with, it was one of the most stable PDA's I have owned. If it had a VGA screen I would have not traded it for the Touch Pro.
OK, the TP is very sexy, has a great screen and keyboard and oodles of RAM. But it has to be the most unstable PDA I have used, with constant glitches and weird errors that cause me to soft reset a couple of times a day. I think there is a real need for HTC to bring out a new ROM build that irons out all the well publicised faults.
Having said that, I love the sheer coolness of this device and the WOW's I get from mates when they see it. So I am pleased I bought it and I wouldn't get rid of it any day soon. I will continue to put up with the glitches and keep checking these forums for solutions.
Would I recommend it? For those who want a functional office device that they toss into a briefcase without a care.... NO!
For those gadget junkies amongst us.... YES!
as for me the TyTn II will be my first and last HTC device
am gonna switch over to Xperia or G1 or even a smart touch phone(samsung-nokia)
cuz HTC dont have good updates and all there roms are useless and LATE

Good thing you're well informed and you know what you're talking about. "will be my first and last HTC device...", "am gonna switch over to Xperia (HTC) or G1 (HTC) or even a smart touch phone"... The only 2 phone models you named are made by HTC.
Still in love with my Touchpro, but as with all tech, I can watch it slow down with newer builds of 6.5. Its aging and I'm thinking of upgrading soon, but I want a phone I know the community is going to support the way we do with the TP.
The HTC Leo looks so sexy....but I'm having a lot of dreams about Android as well.
For me, I cant live without hardware keyboard and GPS, so TP2 is my next choice. If only Leo has hardware keyboard..hmmmm
I'll probably wait for the 3rd incarnation of the tP (TP3). I want that snapdragon processor!!!

I don't understand this. Touch Pro has the same processor and RAM as TP2, TD2, HD etc. In other words, it's the same phone, only resolution is different. Why do you think that for example TP2 is quicker? All specs are the same.
I'll be using a phone that doesn't exist now, but it will totally kick ass and iphone users will be really jealous.
Hate the hardware keyboard, extra bulk for me so....
AT&T Pure (TD2) enroute today!
One of the phones with the snapdragon or Tegra(?) chips.
I'm caught between the AT&T Pure (aka Topaz), cuz it is just so fine in the hand and has a beautiful screen and 5mp camera; the TP2 because of the keyboard; or wait for the HD2, cuz it's a capacitive screen, has a screaming processor, and 3.5mm earphone. It looks awesome!
I only find my Touch Pro faster with the latest WM6.5 builds. I initially wanted to purchase Diamond 2, so I went to the ATT store and checked it out.
IT does have a larger screen but the width of the screen is exactly the same as Fuze, so it doesn't improved the software keyboard since the area it takes up is exactly the same width wise.
And overall the Pure feels very much plasticy, and too light for my likings.
And the WM6.5 on Diamond 2 isn't even close to what the cooks have done for the Touch Pro, so I walked away empty handed.
Maybe I'll go back to the store when TP2 arrives, but I still think TP is a solid phone, I even like to use it more than my iphone 3g. (well my gf doesn't want to use the fuze, so that's the only choice I got =/
I will wait for the HD2
My next one is going to be HD2! Look at the video. It's really cool.
http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/htc-hd2-caught-on-video
I have another tab open right now, with an Acer F1 sitting in the basket for £338 - over £200 cheaper than the HD2's pre-order price from the same UK online retailer!
The only thing stopping me from pressing the 'checkout now' button is the lack of TouchFlo 3D and my uncertainty over whether anyone will develop it in the way I know the good folks here will look after the HD2. I'm so torn!!!!
Don't...know...what....to....do!
im just gona bide my time and w8 because just when i bought my tilt they came out with the fuze about 2 months L8r.... but i do have the fuze now so i will just w8 til my contract is up and see what is out then.... i love my fuze and i think its the best phone that they offer @ at&t prior to the release of the new tilt 2 and pure
I feel the same. Acer F1 looks great on specs, but the HD2 has both WM 6.5 and Touch flo.
Im going with the HD2, since theres always upgrades on XDA and WM 7.0 will show its furry little face in the Spring lol
whatever the next TP3 is - gotta have snapdragon/tegra, HD kb.
have been thinking about omnia2 qwerty...

+1 on this one. Why purchase an expensive device just for the larger screen with same specs. My only concern is that ATT may not offer it due to the direct competition to the iPhone (in regards of the HD2 at least). Though double dipping money with iPhone and WinMobile based device could just kill the last thought...
I'll wait for the 1 GHz device without any doubt.
So what are the options for someone on AT&T?
I want a new phone because my TP is falling apart. The keyboard doesn't respond well, some of the keys barely work, etc etc.
The TP2 simply isn't even an upgrade. It is amazing they are even calling it an "upgrade."
I've seen soooo many reviews(Engadget,Gizmodo) bashing WM 6.5. I haven't used Android or the iPhone, but these reviews must mean WM sucks compared to Android/et al.
So I'm thinking of getting an Android phone, or would love to try a WebOS phone, etc.
Are there any phones from Europe or other carriers that I might want to look for? Something that is an actual upgrade from the TP? Thanks guys!
@schwalbach
Touch HD aka Blackstone from down under perhaps (Telstra enabled for frequency match). But, again, same specs larger screen. Get a replacement or at least check how much it is and hold on a few more months until ATT or another US carrier announces snapdragon based phones. I could likely happen that they'll wait for MS to pair it with a WinMo 7 release (just a guess).
I messed around with a Touch Pro 2 the other day and I really liked it, but as has been pointed out, with the same chipset I'm not sure it's really worth the outlay, especially for someone who buys their handsets sim free. And they took away the handy 'torch' from the back. Cads.
Has anyone been to Qualcomm's website and seen the next Snapdragon with 1.5 Ghz cpu? Eeeek!
The trouble with waiting for the Touch Pro 3 is it's bound to be only 3mm thick, but the size of a coffee table ; )
If I can get over my current love of the Acer S200/F1 I may try and play with an Omnia Pro and see what that's like....
I just got my Fuze for my Bday a couple months back knowing that the Tilt 2 was coming. I still really like my Fuze, but I really like the Tilt 2, but I'd never get it because of the now mandatory data plans, which I'm thankful for getting my Fuze early enough. If I had my choice I'd jump ship on the next 2 generations after the Tilt 2 on AT&T, but those data plans are too expensive for me so I'll probably have to jump off my first WinMo device and go to Nokia for unlocked phones, unless HTC or someone starts selling unlocked WinMo/Android phones.Which I really hope someone starts doing, I'd really like to stick to WinMo.
Hi all! I've had an LG enV Touch for a few months, and I love the phone. Besides making phone calls and lots of text messages, I've been using the doc viewer, youtube, RSS feeds, etc. often. But the TP2 looks like a perfect device for me -- I've missed having a PDA with a keyboard since my HP200LX went tits up years ago. (My Palm E2 never really fit the bill -- no physical keyboard!) And looking at ebay, I could probably get 3 bills for the enV Touch + extended battery, which would cover the TP2 and a few months of the increase in my monthly VZW bill.
Has anyone here moved from an enV Touch to a TP2? Any regrets?
Thanks!
no regrets
hey just thought i would reply as i had the enV Touch and went back to my blackberry from there. ive had a ton of phones i get bored very quickly with them. anyway iive mostly had blackberrys never really cared for winmo phones i always felt them to be very sluggish and not all that finger friendly ( i happen to like touchscreen alot some dont). the enV touch like the voyager before it was a great phone for what your using on your touch i think the touch pro 2 will be the perfect device for you. i have to say it after many years of being a winmo hater (like i said i mostly owned blackberrys and for a brief time the iphone 3g) the touch pro 2 however has won me over. i really couldnt ask for a better device. i think you will feel the same as well.
Thanks very much, rcklss1. That's helpful advice. If the damn thing ever appears back in stock at Verizon, I'll buy one!
I switched from the Voyager to the Touch Pro and now the Touch Pro2 and it is MUCH better. The only thing I like more about the voyager was i felt that if i damaged the touch screen i could still use the inside screen, but a screen protector like invisible shield will solve that.
There is SOO much more you can do with a WinMo phone...i say upgrade
Thanks, Kern. I just ordered one! Can't wait to dig into it.
My entry into the smartphone/pda industry was an original HTC Tilt/Kaiser. I loved it and still do.
Recently I renewed my contract with AT&T and made the knee jerk decision to get an iPhone 3GS. I was enamored with the phone in the beginning but its over. I am trying to decide which phone to get but none of them fit the bill! So I need some assistance deciding when to sell my iPhone to buy a newer one.
I want to sell it while its still crazy priced on ebay and I can land over $700 for it still heh... crazy people.... So I want to time it about a month prior to the release of the phone I am after.
The one I am eyeballing now is the Sony xperia x10. Although I do sort of want windows mobile (my currency trading broker has some sweet trading software for it.) But I will take the hit and use android with a vpn to my home pc.
I really want a high end phone with a great camera and fast processor and beautiful large screen for multimedia and stock charts...
So what future phones for AT&T fit the bill? Also, if they are not a AT&T direct release is a big plus also since you can get cheaper internet. (Yes I am looking at you x1 users! I hate you!)

Hi Mercilus
The obvious phone that fits that descreption is the HD2 (or Leo, depending how it's being branded where you are), however, for me i would choose the Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium) as it has a phisical keyboard, as a Winmo user, I am unaware of the stats of the android phones lying around
(Go For Winmo )
Badwolve1
I would go for Rhodium or Leo
Thanks for the responses I will research into those a bit.
Doing a quick search and it seems they both are expected any time now?
Still trying to decypher if they are available for US-AT&T 3g.
Rhodium is out since some moths
Tils2 is the name of it on at&t and I guess it has 3G...
And for Leo I know it´s also already out in Europe

Htc leo/hd2 is coming exclusively to t-mobile u.s.a
For People saying get the HD2 a.k.a HTC LEO, that phone is coming EXCLUSIVELY to T-Mobile U.S.A. If you want that on at&t that means you have to buy the unlocked version and get only EDGE on at&t.
I know this since I follow t-mobile usa and htc on twitter and they both said it. Phonedog said and even facebook said it. Go google it if you doubt me.

Yeah, that definately would be a problem. I definately do enjoy using high speed data, so 3g is a must.
So for the current phone options, it looks like I may be keeping my iPhone 3gs for a bit longer god it hurts to say that.....
Any ideas what I should keep my eye on for the future? The LG Expo looks pretty cool but I dont know if I trust LG....
People here have a bias for HTC, and I don't think they considered that you might want a phone that is being offered by your carrier.
So you are satisfied with Windows Mobile and HTC was a good Xperiance.
I suggest HTC Touch Pro2 or an LG Expo.
HTC Touch Pro2 for functionality.
LG Expo for speed, and performance.
i've been using a dopod u1000 / athena / ameo / advantage for quite some time now...and finally opted to sell it.

Here is what I anticipate and what I know and I will list as Pros of the Touch Pro2 (AKA HTC Tilt2) over the LG Expo:
Pros:
Stereo speaker (LG Expo does not have 2-speakers)
Tilting screen (LG Expo does not have)
Dual microphones (LG Expo does not have 2-mics)
Touch FLO3D Home Screen (subjective) (LG Expo does not have)
Better keyboard design and feedback (subjective)
HTC's tendency to offer updates (input fields will be enlarged finger friendly!)
LED Indicators for CAPS Lock and FN Lock, which has proven useful
LG Expo's Point Of View
Pros:
Projector attachment (HTC Tilt2 does not have)
Twice the CPU speed (technical) (HTC Tilt2 does not have)
Fingerprint reader and scroll pad (HTC Tilt2 does not have)
Other Stuff
Things that I never consider when comparing phones: form factor and size difference, and XDA Support (cause I rarely flash and do that kind of stuff).
Things that you must consider when reading my opinions: I have never laid my hands on an LG Expo. I never touched the LG Expo keyboard but from the looks of it, the keys look amazing, but I've laid my hands on top keyboards before and Touch Pro2 is the best so I am just guessing that LG Expo isn't as good.
As you can see, if you need a speedy device with keyboard almost as good as the Touch Pro2, get the LG Expo. If you are tired of the lag of the likes of Xperia X1, Touch Pro1, or Touch Diamond, then maybe LG Expo is better than Touch Pro2.
If you really like the fact that you have an indicator their to watch your back and protect you from Capitalization/Symbol typography-mistakes, and if you like a beautiful home-screen to soothe your stress while you load a movie and watch it via a 3.5 inch tilting screen with high quality and loud volume, then get the Touch Pro2.
However, you might consider getting external bluetooth speakers and attach that projector on the expo so you can have a movie experience, but the setup is just too much of a wasted time. The same goes for the TV-Out on the Touch Pro2.
The best reason to get Expo2 is for speedier response and for projected presentations (not entertainment).
The best reason to get Touch Pro2, aka Tilt2, is for it's multimedia value and capabilities (better sound, tilting screen) and for the effectiveness of typing messages (especially when you don't make mistakes with CAPs indicators).
What would seal the deal for me was that if the CAPs button had the LED indicator build into the button, it would be perfect. The same desire applies to the FN button. Besides, sometimes I forget to read the indicator because I am used to looking at the indicator directly on top of my CAPs button on my laptop.

Why?
I was hoping for an advantage as an upgrade to the Universal. To me, the touch pro2 is just too small and fiddly.

apologies as this is deviating from the topic =)
the thing is, i've been using my u1000 for like 3 years now. don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic device. but i've also outgrown the size factor. meaning, the u1000 is not as easy to carry around unless you tuck it in your pocket...in which case you'll have a bulge that deserves its own zip code. of course there are pouches or cases that can be strapped on your belt...not that i'm not a fan of it...and there is simply carrying it around with one hand. given that, when a call comes through i either have to use the handsfree or bluetooth...the former of which has a dangling wire which i'm not too comfortable with...and the latter which can be a drain as you constantly have to be aware of battery life (both for the bt and u1000)...and trust me, i never had plans of putting the unit right next to my ear to answer a call. again, it's a fantastic device but my preferences have changed. so last monday, sent it off to a buyer in ebay and then got myself a touch pro 2.
on that note, i was considering a touch hd 2, an acer m900, lg expo, and the touch pro 2. my views in order of preference
touch pro 2 - keyboard is fantastic. was able to try this out myself when i borrowed my mate's unit. tilt screen is awesome and the display was simply tops. i already have a 16gb micro sd so memory is no problem.
touch hd 2 - fantastic all out but lacks a physical keyboard of which i've gotten used to.
lg expo - a very good contender but the screen doesn't tilt. plus i get all the support i need through this site for an htc. not really a fan of the fingerprint thingee. i was able to play around with this while in hong kong. keys are good (definitely better than the acer m900 per below) but not on par with the touch pro 2. for the projector which you need to purchase separately, there's a whole bunch of mobile projectors that can be bought and linked to your ppc.
acer m900 - lacks memory (@128 ram), while in hong kong i was able to fiddle with one and i must say that the design wasn't as good...no offense to anyone using it. keyboard was not as easy (sticking keys), screen does not tilt, sliding the keypad kinda gave me the feel that it would eventually fall off (?) as it was "shaky"

TBH, Acer is the worst of them all, and Touch Pro2 and HD2 are the best.
And the LG Expo isn't that good either but it is a sign that LG is finally making good phones. I'm tired of their voyagers and env's which are too popular in the U.S. and they are the worst 'smartphones' ever. Their new chocolates with 4 in super-wide displays and 4.8 inch super-wide displays have also increased my enthusiasm for LG phones.
