Is this possible to connect to Uni? - General Topics

Hi all
Perhaps I´m being noob with this quiestion, but it´sbetter to try
Is possible to connect this speakers to my Uni?
Any adapter for USB to mini USB exists? and if so, does the power will be enough to feed the speakers and work?
(Nominal power 100mA / power tension 5 Vcc)
Thanks a lot for any help

if it's normal usb speakers extusb is not really a factor
as usb speakers dont use analog signals but have a kind of
usb soundcard integrated into them
so it comes down to drivers which works for universal if it
support usb host that is pretty sure it don't in which case it would
never work
if I were you I would try taking the question the universal forum
where owners of the same device as you will be more likely to
read it

Dongle vs USB

ok This may seem like a dumb question but I dont want to screw up my ATT HTC FUZE. Do you really need to use the little dongle or can you plug the USB directly into the phone? What does the Dongle do?
Thanks in advance,
SoBBie
just plug the usb right into the phone the dongle is an adaptor if you are using headphones and charging or using 2mm or 3mm headphones.
THANKS!!! I was hoping you would say that... I just wanted to make sure there was no voltage stuff in it.
Thanks again,
SoBBie

Which HTC phones have normal mini-usb slots?

Hey guys
long story that i wont bore you with but I need to find out a HTC phone that has a normal 5 pin mini-usb slot, uses this for its headphones AND has a break-out cable (3.5mm slot halfway up it for normal headphones).
Can anyone help with this please?
NOTE: I dont want the 11pin ENHANCED mini-usbversion like on the touch-diamond. I want the version with two slanted sides, not one square and one slanted.
I don't think a 5 pin usb could carry audio as well. USB has wires for data+, data-, power+, and power-, and then the audio would need wires for left, right and earth, and another for a mike.
My old wizard had a 5 pin USB, and it had a separate 2.5mm headphone/headset socket.
yeah they can and do, its just the headphones that come with the Acer are S*&t but they do operate over mini-usb.
Thanks though, that probably means the Wizards not setup to pump audio over its mini-usb, i'll avoid that one then
My Uni has it
Thank you. I'll check them out on Ebay
the designers at htc should be clubbed on the head for their enhanced mini usb connector.
3.5mm audio + mini usb - that's what it always should have been.
I cant understand why would you want a standart mini usb if - "standart mini usb" works with "htc enchanted mini usb" --- I personaly have a standart mini usb for my Touch HD to use with PC and enchanted usb for charging it - it doesnt bother me that they are different they both do the same<- or am I missing something?
im just curious!
Lets put a couple of things straight...
1) standard mini-usb absolutely can NOT carry (non-digital) audio, no matter what some people in this thread think/claim. It simply CAN'T BE DONE.
If some device *DOES* have audio over mini-usb plug, then despite its shape, it is NOT USB. I *have* seen devices *misuse* the physical plugs it has.
2) The non-standard plug used by HTC is *fully compatible* with existing USB wires.
3) Because of (1) and (2), there is no use whatsoever for a standard USB plug to be on the device. It simply does not matter that there are extras in the plug.

Wow, jump down the throat there.... nice guy obviously.
I can think of a way it can be done ......

edit:
Would you like to also clarify how any of the 3 mini-usb cables (from various sources) work fine with the phone and PC and then can be swapped out for the Acer headset which is through the same mini-usb port? If it was a non-normal port then as you say, its unlikely the other generic cables would work.....

Do you mean an Enhanced USB will fit in a non-enhanced port? I don't have one spare but they are a physicaly diferent shape....

Agreed (sort of)... just a bit worried that you keep saying "standard" though, you do mean a standard MINI-usb right? But agreed, there is simply no justification for not having a 3.5mm jack .... its madness and a madness not just confined to HTC sadly

I think, if im reading you right, your looking at it the wrong way round
The phone I have has a STANDARD mini usb. I think your saying your phone has an ENHANCED mini usb port (guess that answers the above about them not fitting/fitting). And ENHANCED wont fit in MY STANDARD and the only HTC phones I could find had ENHANCED.
My thinking was that if I could find a HTC that had a 5pin mini-usb, I could try one of those remotes - im getting desperate!

Guess I am!! my english aint perfect and its hard for me to understand this thread with all the technical stuff in it!!!
so youre looking for something like this - http://cgi.ebay.com/3-5mm-Headphone...ries?hash=item3ef2fd81ba&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
but with a standart usb plug, right?

It appears that you use a 3.5mm jack for your audio and not the Mini-usb
I could be wrong as its an old product and the only info I can find is on PDADB. Can any Universal owners confirm this? If it uses a 3.5mm jack for audio then its mini-usb cable is useless to me and I won't bother ordering one.

Youre welcome, just check out the prices- maybe you can find the same thing only cheaper-- this was just a search for the right usb not price!!!
when you receive them- tell us did they work!
Good Luck

Yes, you are right
I´m sorry I got confused with the question
The 'enchanted' mini USB is total crap. Just check out the thread about people reporting problems because the looseness caused the little pins to be bent.
HTC should just put in a mini usb for data and power and a 3.5mm for audio.

Ordered this one as its a UK seller and will be much quicker.
However, im now temtped to start my own personal campaign against Acer and keep sending the phone back to them over and over again until they fix the Black Screen Of Death issue.... why do companies release phones with this common fault? Do they not use there own phones? I simply don't believe this can escape QA testing.

Simultaneous micro usb to 3.5 mm audio out while charging possible?

A similar question has been asked on modaco but I don't think a solution was found. Therefore I am going to ask if this would work here.
Is it possible to connect a micro usb (male) to mini usb (female) adapter up to this thing (HTC 4 in 1 adapter: I can't post link because I am a new user but just search it on youtube). This would connect to the tg01 micro usb and provide a 3.5 mm audio out in addition to a mini usb connection where one could potentially hook up a charger. I was thinking of testing this out as it would cost about 10-15 dollars but I do not want to damage my phone in the process. I have no electrical engineering knowledge but maybe someone else can explain if this would work before I order anything.
On a side note: I order samsung WEP870 bluetooth headphones on sale as an alternative to this. Note sure how sound quality is but I will try answer any questions you guys might have.
Any input is welcome.

I was heavily involved in the discussion running on MoDaCo you refered to; unfortunately there has been no breakthrough on this issue to date.
I did look into the the HTC adapter you mention, but it actually uses the proprietary HTC ExtUSB plug on the input end (connecting to the phone) and NOT a normal mini-USB. The ExtUSB has 11 pins which include a discrete audio output (being used to feed the 3.5mm jack socket) and also hard-wired power (used to accept the charger input).
In the case of the TG01 uUSB socket, it is too 'intelligent' for its own good. Every function, charging, audio out, USB data transfer, etc., is under procesor control. Different functions are triggered by the device 'seeing' a certain resistance across the sense pin and ground; depending on this the processor then configures the use of the socket pins accordingly.
I am after what you are trying to achieve also; there is a chip supposedly available which is intended to fulfil exactly this functionality, but I've been unable to find any devices on the market which use it and attempts to contact the manufacturer with a view to getting a few samples to try and build an interface have so far been unsuccessful.
I've attached a couple of documents which explain the uUSB Charger Adapter and also the chip spec sheet for reference.
View attachment MC34825.zip View attachment batt_charging_1_1.zip
If anyone else knows anything to help move this one forward, will be much appreciated !
Thanks for the nice explanation,
Hopefully one day there will be an adapter that can make this possible.

[Q] Help with USB Host (OTG)

Hi All,
I'm trying to get a USB device connected to my phone (specifically an OBDII reader with Torque Pro). No matter what I do, I can't get it to recognize on my Nexus S 4g. When I run USB Host Diagnostics, it basically says it can't find anything.
I'm running a flavor of Cyanogen 10 with its stock kernal.
My questions are:
Do I need to go through a powered USB hub to get the proper power?
Do I need a specific kernel with the correct host modules enabled? (if so, can someone point me to one)
Thanks,
Torque Pro worked fine with my NS4G with a cheap ebay bluetooth adapter with no hassle. That adapter had no batteries at all, it was powered through the ALDL port on the car. I couldn't imagine needing power since no scanner I know of needs power at the ALDL port, it pulls it from the port itself. I would bet it is USB driver problems, or problems reading the USB adapter through Jellybean because of this new MTP protocol that sucks
Good to know.
Should I try a HoneyComb ROM? I guess it COULD be the OTG cable I got from amazon. Maybe it's not plugging in all the way.
thx

No Honeycomb roms for Nexus S...
I highly suggest a OBDII bluetooth adapter. They're 15$ on the net and will spare you the trouble. Make sure you find one that has good reviews, some cheap ones have problem connecting to some cars because of broken J1850 PWM (i think it's PWM, might be VPW) protocol.

[Completed] [Q] USB OTG Solution - Question

Hello guys
First of all I will excuse me for my bad English.
I've a question about the use of the USB OTG system. I'd like to use a general 3xUSB (female) to MicroUSB (male) cable in this way: 1 numpad/key arrows, 1 mouse and 1 port for charging the Android phone itself at a power point. Is this possible with the general cables in the stores? So not, does it exists and where must I pay attention(I don't really mean the OTG Y cables, because I can't find one with 2 USB (female) ports and I don't know where the energy gain from the Micro USB (female) port and charger is good for (Recharging phone or powering the USB port)
The reason I'll ask this is becuz I like to play Oldschool Runescape play easier on my mobile phone with XDSL Wheezy than I do now. I hope the mouse and numpad/key artows work already with it.
Greetings Delelith and thanks in advance!
Hi there,
Please give us more details about your device/firmware.
Thanks
