Yardie V4 Rom.....What ch'all want??? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

OK, so thanks to all who have tried my ROMs and left me feedback and an especially big thank you to those of you who have donated to my beer fund!!!! But what i wanna do now is throw it open to y'all! Lots of people have asked for this and that adding or removing, it's been impossible to keep up with! So what i want, is for y'all to use this thread to tell me what tweaks/programs etc you all want, please do not ask for radios though as obviously they all work different around the world, my Rom will ship with whatever radio i feel is best for my locality and battery life! Also DO NOT ASK FOR ANYTHING THAT INFRINGES COPYRIGHT.......It will be a waste of your time!!!!!
My initial thoughts are to drop the D3D drivers for now as they slow down the screen rotate too much, other thoughts are to drop TCPMP for you tube player and add music ID, possibly a couple more coffee break games. Would also like to add manilla 2D(But a couple of issues to sort with it first!)
So let me know!!!

Add-on for Yardie Rom
I would like to cast a vote for the Raphael Keyboard (unless there is a working version of the Opal Keyboard released before the Rom is made.)
Thanks!!!

i agree with the raphael keyboard, haven't seen the opal keyboard. SJ's HyperDragon PRO Manilla 2D runs flawless so I would like to see that in the ROM. Also, the youtube application is the best i've used hands down. BeeJive compatability is a must but other than that i can't think of anything else.

Hi yardie,
Ive been a big fan of your roms. Just wanted to add somethings id love to see in them.
1 - The action/quick menu tab in place of the calender tab on the bottom left soft button.
2 - The long press keys for power/send/end
3 - Not a big deal, but a few new games would be nice
4 - Not sure if you would be able to because its only beta, but adding in skyfire browser, or if not maybe opera, as PIE is terrible and slow.
I personally like a real full rom, the more programs on it the better, as long as you can maintain good speed.
As long as you can add some of the recommendations, but still keep up the speed as you have done, I will be sold!
Thanks again.

IMHO I like more a very light and clear merged ROM (Kaiser/Raphael), newest build with so less as possible apps. Contains only essential apps as:
- Standard WM (eg Office, Outlook, QuickGPS, Camera, Symbol Pad)
- 3D drivers of Samsung Omnia
- Flash 3.1
- MS_NETCF
- MS_SQL_CE_MOBILE
- ESMERTEC_JBED
- Hou Ming FileExplorer extension is handy but not necessary
The rest should be installable by users. Changed icons are nice, but not too blinky or full change. It looks not clear and I've been in the situation I couldn't find the apps immediately, I had to look twice.
Standard theme: I like the looks of your previous ROM

hey yardie,
Here's my input:
1. Stick with the media versions, I personally prefer these (DiamondMedia lol), and love yours.
2. Stick with 3.29, it's very stable and I've never had your ROM crash on me
3. Manila2D is cool, but so is HTC Home IMHO. I'm fine with either one.
4. For Beejive compatiblity, you might want to take a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2581946&postcount=1
5. I prefer YouTubePlay over the new Youtube application, for speed and stability, and its extremely lightweight and has more options
6. I suggest taking a peek at AdvanedConfig 3.2's .xml files, it has some VERY useful Registry edits
7. I prefer 19588 and some newer builds rather than the standard shipped one
8. Please keep your current theme, I love it!
9. For me, I like light ROMs, but also like ROMs that are completely functional out-of-the-box. This means that I really like to keep the base clean, but I also don't like to have the user add millions of .cabs to get it the way they want it
10. In case you are deciding to place opera in the ROM, I would highly NOT recommend it. It takes up about 10 MB cooked in and around 4-5MB in .cab form
That's about it,
good luck on your next release man
EDIT: Please elaborate further on this "slowing the screen rotation down too much" because I'm not having many problems with a ported XIP and SYS with the Samsung Omnia drivers, but would like to hear your input on the subject

Ok, so I installed your ROM in the morning, filled it with all my programs to see how it would behave.
Booting is ultra fast and everything still runs smooth even tho I installed something like 50Mb of programs on the phone's memory.
Tried a movie aswell, 1hour and a half of a DVDRiP running at 640*360, XViD(890Kpbs) and MP3 (130Kbps).
I had flashlite running on the background from my cube, and the movie only messed around once at the 4minute mark, and never again, saw it flawlessly. Used TCPMP v0.81.
Overall it feels very nice, fast and stable, great job here man, keep it up.
As a side note, you could probably consider removing Voice Speed Dial and Office, for it to be even smoother.
Cheers.
This could be flash time....!
Looks great, gonna try it soon. Will let you guys know how it works.
bug report: can not open music player from htc home, seems battery go fast.
HTC Audio Manager not included in this light ROM. You can use Home customiser to change the selection of Home plugin to windows media player, also you can install Audio Manager.
the phone is running whole day, and seems fine. rom is fast and stable. one thing bothering me is I try to hide sim contacts with registry edit, but it come back after soft reset, anyway to fix it?

[REF]Support Diamond Rom Development

I created this thread for the support of having a DIAMOND ROM build , created for us Touch/Vogue owners. As always, its almost impossible to have a developer start such a project based on the request of one person.
So show your support and hopefully we can encourage one of the dev's here to give it a go. This is already available for a couple other phones, which really amazes me, because this is by far the phone it would look best on.
I would particularly like to see a DIAMOND style ROM selection that could be used with the PPCGeeks Kitchen. That way we could add the other features we wanted to accompany the Diamond theme. But any diamond rom would be pretty nice.
So if you would also like to see this, show your support here guys and gals. And as always, tune in again. Same XDA time, Same XDA channel!!!

Hi yes it's WM6.1 but a hybrate build for now because I still need to do some learning.
can you link me to info on getting GPS working and what is REV-A?
and finaly ETA can't say for shure I'm waiting for next version of ThrottleLauncher to be released.
the new setup I use for Throttle makes htc Home, Cube, Action screen, Longpress end key, Audiomanager and almost Comm manager useless and are not going to be in my roms
Because Throttle can replace that in next version and some more stuff too
so It's kind of funny because when the ELF first got released I spent monts getting the Cube working on Prophet now I got a ELF last night and the Cube was the first ting I removed

Raphael vs Universal

Hi!
I've been using my uni from the past couple years or more and am waiting to switch to the raph. I need to wait for another 15-20 days before i can get my hands on one (and thats killing me :-( ) and until I do, I was hoping that someone who's made the jump from a uni can shed some light on how it compares.
EDIT: Most importantly, can someone compare the two keyboards???
Cheers,
San
difficult....
The Universal keyboard is superb but bigggggggggggg.
I like the Raphael keyboard very much. Had a lot of problems with the TytnII. No numbers without the function key and easily I touched one of the hardware keys, entering in a menu etc.
This is all solved by the Raphael.
I may want to remap the sms and mail key in spacebar or so. I type them accidentally now and then, entering in those programs. But I can live with it
Huib
I also have a universal and have found no other phone that is as complete as it is 3+ years on from when I got it but with the extended battery pack on I am a little sick of the brick type comments I get and fancy a change.
However the limitations of the touch diamond mean I am only seriously considering the Touch Pro but the current £500 sim free price tag is too much - waiting for some decent conrtract deals..
Is the touch pro actually that much smaller than the universal in real world use? Anyone have any pictures of them side by side?
With a Windows 6.1 rom on (tomal!) the universal it really flies, does everything I need (apart from maybe HDSPA 3g occasionally) so if anyone has both it would be great to give us some comaparisons...

Much, much smaller. Nothing negative said about good old Universal.
But it comes with an extremely handly pouch that you can keep in your shirtpocket after having taken the Raphael out.
It is a small but very handy thing.
And you get a lot of extra tools, like GPS etc.
I also own a TytnII, and I miss some buttons, but this TouchPro ..... brrrrr.
I also believe that battery life in 3g mode is acceptable now. But I could not fully test it.
With both Universal and TytnII it was unworkable and I could only use GPRS/GSM to save battery live.
And GPRS and MSN MEssenger bite each other and were giving me many missed calls. Data and voice are impossible in GPRS mode.

Thanks for the replies guys.
That sizeasy site is cool adamdon89 - I have bookmarked it
Minds made up - just need a decent offer on a UK contract now then!
If the picture doesn't do it for you, volume-wise, the Universal is ~275% the size of the Touch Pro. That is, grind some Touch Pros up (no, please don't actually try it!) and you could almost fit 3 Touch Pros in the space of the Universal.
thanks for your feedback guys!
can someone specifically answer on these lines, in comparison to a universal -
1. Overall device speed, through menus, launching proggies etc.
The uni is quite sluggish in my opinion....is the TP a lot more responsive??
2. Keyboard layout...
Minor changes, no windows key, no OK button.....does this feel like a huge loss in happiness?
3. Keyboard usability...
how does it really feel when compared to a uni's keyboard? The uni has a fairly large keyboard....now, using the TP, do you find it really hard to type on?
4. Is the OS a lot more stable?
I hope so! My Uni on wm6.1 is usually a nightmare....crashes atleast 5 times a day (i have a bad rom now i guess)
cheers & thanks again!
San
i had the Uni swapped it for a tytnII i wished i did't now i have the touch im happy again.
it is defently faster than my uni that ran wm6
the only complaint i had with the uni was its size, i find the touch just right.

M2D or M3D for my Sprint Touch (Vogue)

Hello and thanks in advance for any responses.
I have a Sprint Touch phone that has been upgraded to WM6.1. I installed iFonz on it to give it the iPhone look and it has been fantastic so far. Now I'd like to know if it's possible to install manila 2d or manila 3d on this phone. A friend of mine has the Sprint Touch Pro and I really like the new touchflo 3d on it. I was wondering if it could be ported to my phone.
-Regards
samaruf
you "can" install Manila3D on your phone but... well.. don't.
Manila2D will work pretty well tho. you can install it and have fun.
I think this may be right, but this is my first post here.
If you have the sprint cdma htc touch (called the vogue here) you should definitely get M2d, not M3d, as this phone lacks the 3d processor in the sprint touch pro (diamond). I have a vogue and absolutely love M2d- it works great, and after playing with the touch pro it looks and feels exactly the same, sans a few 3d effects.
M2d installs as a today screen plugin, but when you have it active it's all you can have running.
Few bugs, a little memory hit, but works awesome for the price- which is free.

Thanks for the replies. If you can provide a link, that would be appreciated. Is it easy to uninstall if I don't fancy it anymore?
To be honest, I really like iFonz and appreciate the good work the Italian programmer did. When I go to Sprint stores to check out new phones, I show the sales reps my iFonzed vogue. They go gaga over it and ask me where they can download it from etc.

and yes, it is very easy to install and uninstall
here is update M2D ( update 20 )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2860699&postcount=4764
click on the megaupload or the 4shared link at the bottom.
then install with number 1 down the manilla test is the M2D software program.
Also ver the very Noobish......
M2D is easy to install, but you will have to tweak it to get everything running properly (custom weather cities, youtube, etc).
It will run fine installed clean (I have a Vogue as well), but it runs faster when cooked into a custom ROM. If you goto the Vogue upgrading section of this forum you will find alot of custom ROMs for your phone, or get specific answers to do with your Vogue.
If you do it clean I recommend version 21 (elfin version) as that is very close to our device.
By the way, if you want to be Iphone ish on your touch, check this out...........I guaruntee you'll Love it (after your done picking yourself off the floor)

Thanks Jason,
I got a kick out of the apple/htc logo
I'm a little leery of getting a custom ROM because of side effects and general warranty busting hazard. I upgraded to Sprint provided WM6.1 as soon as it came out although I had noticed cooked ROMS with 6.1 features long before Sprint supported it.
The other day I went to the local walmart and noticed they were selling the iPhone 8GB for $199. To make side by side comparison, I whipped out my Vogue and held the iPhone next to it. The main difference was of course the awesome screen and the general build of the iPhone, but to be honest I didn't care so much for it. I was saying to myself, "my little phone allows me to tweak everything and not be stuck with just one theme". Also the numerous freeware WM apps available in these forums are a definite plus.
samaruf
hehe, iPhone has themes as well.. but it's obviously not as changeable as WM devices.
anyways, you should be installing version 21 from the link i sent. you can also search for M2DC.. which is a customizer for M2D. with time you'll get the hang of it and be able to do pretty much whatever you want.
takes time to learn.

New Approach (end user)

In short!
Build a G1 rom without so many stock applications!!! This will defiitely cause a snappier feel to functionality.
(I once used a rom with 37 stock apps, the g1 can only handle about 40 unrooted! ridiculous!)
I've had a G1 since the beginning, and as things have progressed along no one has really noted how much we've crammed into the device with each OS update, much like bloatware.
I've recently been running the latest up to date roms I can find, and they don't run up to par, there is a lot of lag and waiting. This isn't to say all roms or slow or even any at all, just my experience and I hope with that we can build a 2.2 rom without added applications.
Maybe make two roms, a bare bones rom and a full one.
I don't need: launcher pro
an extra email client
3d gallery
music
news and weather
talk
voice dialer / search.
There are better alternatives on the market, and the voice search is horrible.
All Android phones will eventually slow down with OS updates, lets not cram the g1 with new services found on better phones. (bluetooth 2.0)
I think it's great progress I do, but I think the majority of g1 users would be grateful without them/ a pick between barebones and full roms.
I've deleted most of the apps mentioned above, but without the extra email app my gmail wont sync, and all sorts of quirky things.
The g1 isn't slow, it was fast and snappy with the firmware version it came out on, let's keep stock apps to a minimum!
Tried to keep this short, sorry.
You know, you can easily edit any of the roms, by hand, or using dsixda's kitchen
Or if that sounds too geeky, you can always install root explorer and delete the desired apk files from /system/app. it works for me. i remove the onscreen keyboard (extra 4mb of ram), voice search, voice dialer, bluetooth (which i rarely use, so i dont need it there), extra mail client,
soooo..
What your saying is because you dont want to do it yourself and you are the only one who uses these roms, the developers should do more work just for you.
You do understand how easy it is for you to delete what you dont want from a rom right?
Let's refer to the OP and see what is now bolded.
I've used Root Explorer to delete apps (and still do) but it never is as sound as I'd like.
My Gmail won't sync and will crash after I delete the extra email.apk,
my contacts will crash when trying to join with FB small here and there things.
I'm all about being "geeky" with my phone, I'm a little bothered anyone would think I wasn't considering I've been using this device since the beginning with ADB and all that noise.
It was a suggestion for less technical users to not have the hassle. I read Cyan the other day saying how these devices are still fun to hack and they just keep adding to it not regarding (it seems) if it will be snappy and functional for every day use.
and thank you fonix232 I'll look into it
dude if you dont want all the "bloat-ware", you should try a plain phone like this, i use one my self

Simply install an 3rd party app like android commander and remove what you desire from /system/app. Going to request a close/move on this, as there isn't too much development going on here+already slightly off topic.
EDIT: Also remember barebone roms, about 2 or so were released. The reason why you don't see more as it didn't really impact the G1 that much. Let's face it, we're lacking ram mainly and os support.

EDIT: Also remember barebone roms, about 2 or so were released. The reason why you don't see more as it didn't really impact the G1 that much. Let's face it, we're lacking ram mainly and os support.

I uploaded a few stripped roms in the past, but nothing recently. This was mostly when I was repacking WG's kernel into various different roms. Now with AnyKernel Updater (and pershoot, dumfuq, exterry, etc) constantly building kernels, there's little need.
It really comes down to the fact that there isn't the perfect rom for everyone. It's easier for me to strip what I don't want out, throw some extra scripts here and there, and testsign the zip.
