Apologies if this has been asked before but a quick search of the forums and google came up with nothing.
I have my long press end key set to lock my device, which works great to prevent accidental key presses, etc. while in the pocket or case. However, I think that 5 seconds is too long to have to press the key. Is there any registry setting that would allow for, say, a 2 second duration to activiate the long key press function? Similarly, I am using the tweak that allows for a long press of the phone key to open messaging, but, again, 5 seconds seems overly long. Thanks in advance.

Regarding locking the device, try firing up advanced config and use the lock function which locks the device when you power it off (standby). really usefull.
Where is that setting? Sounds useful but I can't seem to find it.
Thanks,
Steve

Folks, any idea how to switch off the screen / lock the keyboard without the need of double press the red power button?
This is kind of bothering cause when you're in a application and need quickly to put your Treo into your pocket, you need to press 1st to get to the home-screen and 2nd to switch off.
Yeah, seems to be something new with the 750 (no other treo before did this). Palm set this up purposely, so I wouldn't assume there's a workaround for it. You'll get used to double clicking
Not that I know
I have used it for ages and found many shortcuts but no "quick lock".
Sorry
How about getting an application that device locks your phone upon return from standby? I use BatteryStatus Today Plugin by Chi Tai Dang.. This plugin has the option to lock device on wakeup and set cpu speed(I use this a lot)..
But mine's a wizard, what do I know about Treo.. but what I do now is, press the power button to get the phone to go into standby and when I want to use it again, I press the power button and it will device lock upon wake up.
I don't have a Treo. How do you initiate said keyboard lock normally?

"Device lock" that you may know of isn't used on Treo's. Palm uses their own "keyguard," which uses the red END button as a power button when not on the phone. If you are on the today screen, one click will shut the device off. However, if you are in another program, the first tap brings you to the today screen, and the second click turns the screen off (and the keyguard on if you have selected it to be that way). On all other treo's, WM or POS, one click of the end button would shut the screen off (unless you were on the phone obviously, it would be the END function), regardless of what program you were in. Palm changed this, I assume, to be like most cell phones, where when you press the END key it returns to the home screen, regardless of what you were doing. Like a RAZR would do.
Thats the best way I can explain it. You would be surprised Vijay on how many customizations Palm made to the OS.
Yes, I've heard that they did - thank Goodness one of the OEMs finally saw fit to do something original.
Hmm.. from what you describe, clicking twice doesn't seem like a very big chore... I did something similar in VJOkButt. Is it really necessary to convert the 2 clicks to 1 click? Investigating it barely seems worth the effort
V
I agree, hence my original post.
When you are on the today screen, it works normally. And you can double-click quite rapidly and it will work. Not a big deal for me.
yes guys, its not that dramatical, but still, it would be an improvement also considering that I want to stay in that one application (a note which I'm editing) and want to get there after waking up the device again without the need of again starting application, look for the last note, opening etc...
with HTC hermes and others the power button works exactly like this and its even better.
Hi all,
If you're using it two handed hold option (the white key, left hand end of row 3) and press the red button once - closes the app and powers off.
But you need an odd-shaped hand to do that one handed!
It is not that the double click isn't easy to do, it's waht fire00 said; if you are in an app, it closes it and then powers off. Case in point, this weekend while driving to a friend's house, I had directions in my email and would have liked to have turned off the phone, but then I would have to find the email again and open it up. On my Wizard, i would just turn it off and then back on and the email would be there for me.
Gotta be a reg hack for someone to find.

On my device, that method doesn't close the app. It just locks the keyboard and then powers off. When I power on again, the app is still running and on screen. I think that's what fire00 was looking for.

Sorry PJC ACE, my mis-type - using option + red button powers the device off WITHOUT closing the app - just like the power button on the Wizard ;-)
My apologies!
GUYS YOU'RE ABSOLUTE TREO-EXPERTS !!!!!
thanks a lot, going to dance with the Treo cause I'm so haaapyyy !! )))

Option (hold)+Red Phone button is a nice alternative, but I'd really like to find a way to prevent the Red Phone from reverting to the Today screen, so I can power off directly with it with one press...Vodafone's excuse for specifically asking for it this way (every other phone's "End" button brings you back to the "home" screen) is ridiculous, these aren't like every other phone.
I installed HTC home plugin and now my red button wont let me go into standby. I uninstalled and still not working. Any ideas?
Side Button + Suspend
There is a thread at TreoCentral that explaines how to activate the side button and make it available for button assignment in the settings screen.
Second there is a small program called suspend.
I have mapped the 1 press of the side button to suspend and away we go.
1 - Click keyguards/screen off.
Also it resume in the place or program you left when you unlock it.

How to disconnect GPRS via code? (eg Mortscript)
I mean just launching a script, without use CommManager or the "bubble"...
There must be a way. Some people have written software that turns 3G on/off, so there must be a similar way (without using something that switches the connection off after a few time)...
Thanks in advance for any answer...

Any help?

I knew that command, but it doesn't work on my device (and in others too)...
Please help!
If i'm not mistaken, in the main Mortscript Examples thread in the dev&hack section there's a script to automatically download emails using a data connection. you can see if it contains that script.
cant you use long press key and choose disconnect data? works for me no probs?

Do you know what is the reg key which is editet with this simple operation?
Is there any possibility to simulate long press red button to disconnect GPRS via code?
I too would love to find a key button way or larger touch screen way to manually disconnect the data connection. The 3G sign is so small - I have to take out the stylus.

well depending on the build of your rom, the long press end key will end data connection if yoyu so wish, you just have to select the item in the settings as decribed above. I dont see the need for script or code to do this if your rom supports the function anyway?
That's great advice - thanks but my rom is obviously different.
ie. In the pulldown menu for button functions - there is no end option. The nearest thing is OK/Close but long holding that changes the speaker/vibrate - it doesn't effect the data connection..
Sorry I was assuming we needed to add a different function to one of the hardware keys. In which case an `end' was not in the pulldown options for button assigning. I finally realized that simply pressing the call end key itself does indeed disconnect the data connection.
Thanks a lot for your help.
no problems my friend
As it is tweaked right now, pressing the rigth button is shutting the screen down, yet not locking the device, which is v. convenient.
However, sometimes I need to lock it, which right now is only accesible via start --> lock. So, what I am looking for is a way to lock the devide by pressing the right button twice (e.g. once only shuts it down, two locks it).
Can you help me?
If you leave it with the screen off for a while, it automatically locks..

It sounds like you've got the known issue where the end-call button does not lock the device.
It SHOULD do that - there's a fault that stops it happening.
After doing Start, Lock, the lock button will then lock the screen, as well as turning it off.
If it doesn't then I suggest you have some software on your phone that has altered what the button does.
Use AEBPlus - keyboard remap program - it's free.
For every one button you can assign action for single, double, triple and long keypresses.
In your case assign "Lock" for double press on red phone button.
I hope that this can help you.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was some of BsB Tweaks' tweaks, dunno which tho, however I find it quite useful as it is. Will check out AEBplus, thx.
Hello everyone.
The HD2 Power-off procedure takes extremelly long, first perssing the power hardware button for a few seconds, then waiting for the Quick List Action Screen to pop-up, then pressing the Power Off Button on the touch screen.
Id like to request a simple mod the can bypass/eliminate the usless Quick List Action Screen so that (like in most phones) once the Power hardware button is pressed for a couple secinds, the phone shuts down directly with no further confirmations or pop-up lists.
Thanks much
here is something i cobbled together for you from an app i had lying around that can shutdown with no warnings (sorry cannot remember who created it) and a tweak to map it to long press power key.
Extract all three files into your windows folder and long press on power key will power off with no warnings.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
I have seen this tweak/app to wake phone by using volume button mentioned a few times but no instructions on how set it. Any information that can be shared on how to do this?
Thanks,
Chris
that would be a nice option to have. sometimes the phone feels "too tall" to reach the power button and pressing the side button while it lays on a table is much easier too.
Also looking for this mod - the Sense ROM forum mentions that it is something to do with android.policy.jar?
Leedroid ROM has this.
I know this is a late reply but I found that the tap tap app works well.
I combined it with no lock, so i can just wave my hand and it'll go right to home screen, bypassing the need to use power button, moving the htc ring and pattern lock.

I would highly recommend avoiding this app. I installed, played with for a few minutes then put in my pocket for the drive home from work. When I got home, my phone was locked up, too hot to hold and upon reboot, I had no data connection. Literally nothing I tried returned my data until I did a full wipe and nandroid restore losing a week of data. The app didn't even work reliably in the first place...maybe 1/3 times would it unlock as promised.

Ok, I'll experiment it later with my jeans. Do you remember the settings for your sensor? (sensitivity, how long will sensor be on). Can you suggest an alternative to wake up the phone w/o using power button?
Some say no lock can wake phones via volume key but that doesn't work on my one s.
Brief instructions
It's quite easy actually. Here is a very brief overview.
1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Install a recovery
3. Install something like SuperSu
4. In /system/usr/keylayout/keypad_8960.kl, replace the "key 114 .... " line with "key 114 POWER WAKE". Voila! Now it works, but not when it goes to deep sleep to fix that
5. do this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038726.
If you need a more detailed answer or encounter some difficulties, don't hesitate to ask.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Indeed, a button won't fulfil 2 purposes at the same time. What I do when I want to lower the volume is press the volume_up button. At this point a scroll bar appears on the screen. I then lower the volume by sliding the bar
