It's actually an older problem.
The joystick on SPV C600 with any non AKU 2.0 Orange rom just doesn't work as it should.
In WM5 and say.. a rom from I-Mate the joystick still works.. very bad.. but it still works.
In WM6 it's like almost completely dead (tried all the current cooked roms)
One stupid thing that I found is that actually pressing and holding a random key makes the joystick work.
Yup.. holding 6 or 2 or VOLUME DOWN actually makes the joystick work. What the?!
Has anyone encountered this problem?

I have the exact same problem. With the original C600 ROM from Orange, teh joystick will work. I tried several WM6 rom and Joystick is performing like yours. Cannot move up, hradly move down, but pressing the volume or any other key while moving the joystick will make it work perfectly.
Like you, I am at loss. Anyone has a clue on this behavior and how to fix it?
I have already observed this problem in this thread.
If someone ever bothers to reply to it, we may have a solution.
Wow, thanks - i thought my joystick is almost dead, as it sometimes takes like 3-4 moves to one direction for system to actually recognize one keypress of joystick, if the problem is only caused by softwware, there is still chance! (as the tornado is practically unrepairable in my country )

tilt & spray the joystick with deodorant (i've used denim )
Hi there DSF, I know about that fix for the hardware failure of the joystick but we're talking here about a faulty software.
Joystick failure related to software
In my case, the joystick problem is not a hardware failure
How do I know that? Simple:
I installed the original C600 Orange ROM and have no problem with the joystick. I then try back any of the WM6 out there and unfortunately, on all of them, my joystick will have issues. I even extracted the Keyboard.dll from the Orange Rom and incorporated in one of the WM6 rom but it did not fix the problem.
Is there more than one Joystick file that needs to be copied?
What is strange (and as stated in the first posting) pressing other button while moving the joystick will work fine
In the meantime, I reverted back to the original Orange Rom.
My belief is that by adjusting the keypad backlight timeout, this problem could be fixed.
The new joystick driver disables the joystick when the phone is locked, or when the screen shuts down for powersave. I think that the keypad powersave causes this too.
There was a Tornado ROM out for a really brief period that I read had the ability to tweak the keypad timeout, but I can't find it for download.

Wow, I have just tried turning Light sensor off (settings-power management), and it seems to do miracles so far - joy works as new (on WM6 V4 from this forum)!
EDIT 2 hours later... it doesn't anymore at least i know it's because of software... Seems to be connected with keyboard power management.

Yes.
For some reason, my keypad backlight has stopped turning on. And the stick gives me no problem at all now.
No idea how that happened. But I'm fine with that.
Still having Joystick issues
It seems that very few of us are having that joystick issue. I tried the backlight trick, which did not help. There is definitely a driver issue with a combination of hardware. However, even if I try the Keyboard.dll from the original rom and cook a rom with it, I am having that issue.
My question is: does anyone know what other drivers will need to be extracted from the original C600 Rom and cooked on the WM6 to make the joystick behave as it should?
Thank you
I've the same problem.
WM6 v.3.4
Same problem as i have ....but if i press the volume button it seems to b working just fine ...

Not sure about some of the other cooks (I'm using vjgrace's 3.4) but on mine it's:
HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/KEYPAD/KB_LIGHT_TIMEOUT
It's in milliseconds - roughly. I set my display timeout to 30 seconds and the keypad light timeout for 30,000 milliseconds (30 seconds) and the keypad turned off just before the display. Keypad timeout at 30,069 milliseconds turns the keypad off at the same moment that the display dims.
That was way off topic, but if editing the keypad timeout helps fix the joystick problem, that's how to do it.

If it is a fix, I don't see how it's off-topic at all. It's bang-on. I'll experiment w/this over the weekend and see how it goes. Thanks.
seeing this with 3.4 rom from vj and cingular 2125. I can move down/right pretty easily with joystick. However, up/left are sticky. Sometimes they don't respond and you have to try a few times. Really kills usability of the phone on WM6, feels slow and clunky.
I've changed it to 60,000
I'll report back later.
So, I got fed up with joystick problem, and ordered a new keyboard part form ebay - here for $20: ebay link
Should arrive in a week or two, will write how it worked (i expect joystick to work as new after that )

HHHRRR. Yesterday i have bought my third HTC Tornado. Today i have installed the WM6, and found, that joystic doesnt work when trying to get to the top, or left.. Now i've found this thread, and tryed to move joystick while holding the "6" or "2" - then it works fine! Guys, dont want to roll back to the original ROM..
Hi all,
I read through a lot of threads and downloaded tons of ROMS for my TyTN II. Most of them were from dutty's or no thrills. Problem however is that everything seems to work, it is also very fast.
However after a while my (hardware) keyboard and also the buttons (e.g. sliding wheel and keypad on the front) does not respond anymore. When I click any of the hardware buttons the light goes on so it does react on the buttons, however it just doesn't do anything...
Did anyone else experience this issue? I will no try to switch back to the original HTC rom (6.0) since I have no choice but if anyone knows how to fix this?
P.S. I just noticed that all my buttons do not work, it is no hardware issue since It does work after a hard reset, might be caused by incompatible applications? (e.g. SPB phone or SPB theme)
Kind Regards,
Nico van der Linden
If a hard reset fixes your problem each time, then it sounds to me like a bad flash. I would try reflashing the ROM you are currently running. Make sure to hard reset immediately after the flash also.
ok thanks, I'll try to download the ROM flash again , and perform an hard reset directly after the flash. Hopefully this times the ROM update will go better.
Regards,
Nico...
Just my 0.02$:
I think this is related either to WM6.1 builds or to a hack/fix/setting that most custom ROMs use.
I flashed Dutty's Apr 01 ROM and i had this issue. Then i flashed Mobile Vista 1.3 and it happens again . So it's not present in just one ROM, or just in ROMs cooked by a certain chef.
By "issue" i mean every once in a while the touchscreen stops responding to clicks and the keys stop working (but the keys backlight comes on, so HW seems ok).
During this unusual behaviour i noticed that the device is NOT frozen - BatteryStatus updated it's CPU usage while the keys and touchscreen didn't respond, so only the input stops working, the system is ok.
I have a feeling this is a common issue, but people see it as a freeze, and think their processor is too loaded, and they don't report it.
EDIT: Oh, and i got flamed and ignored whan i reported this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385080
EDIT2: I have a feeling this will get a lot of attention soon, just like the time i noticed the Tytn II is underperforming, and the fact that's it's missing 3D HW support

The quickest way to get out of that situation is turn off the backlight and turn it back on again, aka power button...and your screen will work again.
Also I noticed that if I flash the radio again my screen taping problems go away.
Also sometimes flashing to the original shipped ROM and then flashing back to a WM6.1 ROM also works.
Well I do not have an problem with the touch screen, this always keeps working (although the device does get VERY slow sometimes) . 'Only' my hardware buttons do not work anymore (including the hardware keyboard). It is strange that it does work after a hard reset or an install of another ROM. However, also then it stops working after half a day or so.
It might occur as soon as I change the hardware button assignment but I am not sure about this yet.
However, if anyone knows a ROM where this does not occur (e.g. an original HTC WM6.0 ROM dutch or english) then please let me know which one. I just want a working Tytn II back and I do not care anymore which version .
Kind Regards,
Nico...
Ah by the way, when this problem occurs it does not go away anymore when I turn of the device. I also tried removing SIM, memory card and battery but after it is started again the problem remains. Only a hard reset solves it....
But I am a bit confused? Is there nobody else who get these issues???
yeah...
i can confirm all of your bug...
with Vega R8 italian ROM from UDK
Hi Folks,
I had my Cuise to repair at o2 (rubber issue). After receiving my gadget, I had to re-install my image (original o2 WM6.1 and restore my backup (Sprite Backup)). Since then my Cuise tend to freeze after wakeup for several seconds. Not every time, just sometimes.
Does anyone has an idea what happens?
Best regards, oli
I have the same kind of problem. When I push the on/off button to get my Cruise off of standby mode, it doesn't do a thing. All other buttons are ineffective too. If I do a soft-reset, it acts normal for 2 or 3 minutes, but if it gets into standby mode again (automatically or manually), same thing happens.
I now run Touch-IT Lite v.1.0 on it since yesterday, but I had the same problem with the full version of Touch-IT. The full version worked very well for maybe a month, but I don't know if it's the firmware or that's something wrong with my Cruise. Can anyone please help?
EDIT:
Nevermind, I found this topic about my problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366558&page=1
I fixed the issue on my Touch Cruise. As I tried to optimize my power management using the Tweak Tools and enabling power management for SD Card etc., I set everythin to "Default" there and now it is working fine again!
Well, still now got a hughe battery drain left... :-(
Hi guys,
When I get a message the phone vibrates 3 times, like normal. But sometimes randomly it vibrates 1 time and then unlimited vibration. Until I get it out of my pocket and press the powerbutton so the screen goes on again. When the screen is on again the phone resumes the 2 vibrates. Very strange. I had it on multiple roms with different radio's. I don't use TF3D but HTC Home Plugin VGA edition.
I've experienced the same issue you speak of with the stock ROM, and I haven't found a solution or cause yet either.
I think it was this what caused my phone to sometimes go out. Because the vibration consumed all the power.
Do you use Touch Flo?

That would be the angry bee. It is something that just happens. I've had it so bad that I have had to soft reset the phone. It only happens to me every great once in a while. However, I haven't run the stock rom since about 2 hours after buying the phone.
has happened to me twice now.
ive had the phone about 2 months.

I've had it happen to me a few times and had to soft reset it to make it stop. It doesn't happen too often, so I haven't been too worried about it.
I've had it happen when I launch an application just as it is starting to vibrate to signal a notification.
Do you guys also always have it as the second vibration? When it hangs it always is the second vibration at me. And when I press the screen again he makes 2 after it again.
I had a similar issue with the initial stock rom - my wife messaged me in the middle of a meeting and my phone would not STOP VIBRATING. Since it was on the desk, it buzzbuzzbuzzed really loud.
Now I'm on the Energy 3.0 rom and have not had an issue. Even with the updated leaked stock rom I didn't have the issue.
I discover that it only vibrates wrongly when I have the screen off. Pretty annoying though.
Don't we use some kind of stuff in common?
I use:
HTC Home VGA Edition for front end instead of manilla
HomeScreen++ for the handy shortcuts
I checked some things again, I am not 100% sure but I think it was HomeScreen++ that caused the problems here. The exact settings: at the Tools tab "Lock if Display is Off and vice versa, which didn't work anyway at the touch pro (did work on htc's I had before though), but I checked it off and now it still rings 3 times and no less or more. Hope this was it.
I do not use HomeScreen++ and it happens to me at least once a day, sometimes twice. Mine always seems to happen on the third vibrate, it will do the first two and then the third one just stays on. I press the power button for the screen to come back on and it stops.
I have it too sometimes.
EnergyRom 3.0
And you guys have something that auto lock the screen when you press the power off button? Or do you lock the screen before pressing the power button? Because here it seems to have something to do with the locking in combination of the standby mode (screen off)
Hi guys, I find this quite annoying and wish there is a mod for this. I don't know about other HTC Touch Pro owners but i find my fone quite sensitive.........it's "EASILY" turned on by a single "SHORT" press of the power button.
I didn't even hold it for 1 second, if i suddenly press or tap on it really quick, for not even a second, it turns on.
In case ppl don't understand and tell me that maybe my fone was on in the first place but just have the backlight off, and with a single tap on the power button, the backlight goes back on again. I knew that already. But what the problem really is, is that it's totally off, and when i tap the power on button, it turns on, i.e it vibrates and shows the welcome screen and all that other startup animation.
Is there a way to increase the delay of the finger-press on the power button? Coz it's so annoying that it gets turned on when i don't want it to, especially since this fone's weakness is that it hogs battery even though i've already applied tons of tweaks etc to lower the performance and increase battery life......
Oh and i have another problem, i find the signal kinda weak, is there a program or tweak to increase the signal?? Coz on my old phone Sony Ericsson W950i, the signal is great and I never have bad signal problems with it. But using HTC Touch Pro, i have this problem. This only happens when i'm at Uni, but it's not like they have bad reception or signal blockers there like how schools or colleges have. Just that when i'm inside buildings and there're tons of other buildings around, i can't send the txt coz of bad signals and it's bloody annoying, but using my W950i works fine.....
also I noticed that when i type a txt message using the hardware keyboard, it seems to fail to send most of the time, but only when i'm in UNI. But if i switch to the software keyboard, the one that you use ur fingers or stylus, then when i send the message it often works compare to using hardware keyboard.......any ideas?
Problem No 1: Try Touch Lock Pro
Problem No 2: Try to burn the newest RadioROM.
thx but i'm not trying to lock my phone, so i don't think TouchLock Pro is what i need.......
My Raphael turns also on after pressing the power button for a little few moment. With touchlock Pro you can prevent that you mistake your Raphael. I hope you can understand what I write in my "own" english
Ok so i've got it installed now and went through all the settings but couldn't find anything that can delay the power-on button press, I still have this problem. The app is a screen-lock app, there aren't any options regarding to power-on delays.......
plz tell me what settings etc to use.
I've never said that you can fix your problem with TouchLock Pro. With this you prevent to use your Raphael when you press your power button accidentally.
ya but that's only useful when my fone is on and it locks the phone but i'm trying to prevent my fone from turning on in the first place if i accidentally press the power on button for not even 1 second, because then it will turn on and i don't want that.
same problem here...the phone I thought I had turned off was back on, because accidently it got touched by something else in my luggage.
The only solution which to me is unsatisfactory, is to take out the battery so that it cannot power up.
C'mon...there has to be a better solution than this, no???

wow yay finally someone else other than me also report having the same problem, boy am i glad to know that i'm not the only one having this problem, i thought it was just something wrong with my fone and not all HTC Touch Pros....
i can't believe there aren't any results on Google, no forum discussions or solutions to this whatsoever. Also, nobody seemed to report this problem or come up with a solution on XDA as well as other forums i use like PPCgeekz or WMusers etc.........which is odd considering how this problem is quite annoying, that if u suddenly power on the fone by accident, it can drain battery life and god knows HTC Touch Pro has a crap battery life.............
I think that htc has done a bad job testing the powerbutton on the tp2.
There are some other things like weith, thikness and batterylife that could be improved but the powerbutton issue is realy a BIG bug.
Why they didn't make a slidebutton or a timeout between push and activation?
A dobble tap on the powerbutton could also be a solution.
The next rom shoold have a improvement about this button.
People, please react on the powerbutten problem so someone can fix this.
Thanx

Leaving the Touch Pro (Raphael) for some minutes without battery will stop the clock. So, when you put back on the battery and power up the device, the clock will display the wrong time. The time when you remove the battery.
This is hardware related.
Can produced different symptoms though.
Facts Behind the Power Button
If take a look at the inside of the powerbutton, there are 2 points making contact when you press the button. If you press it, the software will recognize this and the screen will turn off.
If you press it long enough you'll get the "QuickShutdown" message.
But, if water/alchohol/liquid gets underneath the button, the 2 points may be making contact, because water/alcohol conducts.
The button is very weak. Due to this, it may not properly work if you have used it for a long time.
As a result, despite the fact that you hit hibernate/sleep/suspend on the hardware power button = yes, the screen fades to black. But IT IS STILL ON. That explains the battery being drained.
Solution:
Open the phone hardware. Clean the power button connector manually.

i heart everyone talking about the sleep of death and to be honest, i havent really experienced this, but i definatley do have an intermitent power on and off button problem on my touch pro 2.
i read on some other forum that it could possibly be the slider that is casuing the problem. but to be honest, the button its self feels fine and looks fineand when i does work it works a treat. i havent had any water damage done to it what so ever. so im not sure , i am new too all this self help mobile stuff. so please excuse my ignorance. Ive doen the usual hard reset, button works for a few hours then calls it a day. soft rest, was working up until this week. i cant get ot to boot up again, while fiddling with the batter and a power lead. but the power button is so intermitent its driving me nuts. id be so grateful if anyone could shine any form of light on this. thanks in advance
