Screen lifting from keyboard? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I was just wondering if anyone else could confirm whether the top left corner of their touch pro pushes down slightly into the keyboard when the device is closed.
The bottom left corner seems pretty solid and does not move down onto the keyboard as it sits very tightly on top of it where as the top left corner sits slightly above the keyboard and pushes down to close the gap between the top and bottom layer.
I just want to know if it was supposed to be like that or if mine is the only one, if it is just mine i might worry it might get worse?

yes, there is a very tiny amount of play there, but i'm sure its nothing to worry about.

Same here.
There is a gap of about 1 mm or a bit less at the top left corner.
I've checked another 3 TP's in a shop and they were all the same.

thanks for the info, that clears things up and brings a lot of relief. thanks

there is a bit of play here too
I can even... rotate it a bit

Thats exactly what mine did. I really hope these $1000 devices dont fall apart before I get another phone, that would really suck

both the tytn's had some play, I beat the hell out of my 8525 when I had it and never had a problem, from what I remember I think the actual tracks that the slide mechanism uses are metal so unless they changed that there shouldn't be any issues.

I don't expect it to become any worse soon.

Squeaking noise at top of the screen ?

After the squeaking back cover of the Touch Dual, another noisy HTC unit ! At least my test unit it seems...has anyone else noticed that when you tap at the top of the screen, say the x box, when you let it go there is a noise of something coming unstuck/unglued ?
If you swipe your thumb from let to right applying some gentle pressure it is event more obvious. Anyone else or is my screen maybe not properly glued on...
I listened really closely, and the only sound I could detect was my oily finger coming off the screen! You may have a defective unit because I don't seem to detect the problem you are talking about. Hope this helps!
Yes, thanks, will need to take it back then, just my luck !
You did apply some moderate pressure didn't you ? It's particularly noticeable around the loudspeaker and camera openings. Or it maybe static I'm hearing, doubt it since I don't have the noise at the bottom of the screen.
GpsPasSion
i tried several times but there's no noise.
Maybe u should check it with HTC or the store where u got it?
I
I have the same problem. On the top of the screen only
Rather annoying isn't it ? I have it on the sides a bit too, it seems to be worse when the screen is hot. Possibly the joint between the "touch" screen and the frame.
I guess I'll take it back but I think the guys are going to look at me "sideways" over there ;-) It seems to me the quality of HTC phones has been going down a bit lately, prices stay high though. I wonder if all the Cruise devices aren't going to develop that problem over time...
Hi,
I've got a similar problem. It also happens when I firmly press X, but the noise comes from the back cover (the antenna-box ) and it's because the back cover (top, not the battery cover) is not stuck tight enough (left side, so right side if you're looking from the front). Annoying? Maybe. Deffective? Not really I'll live with it
i have the same issue with the screen, i have done about 20 minutes of "up close and personal" tapping, pushing, etc and it is definately the screen...
not so worrying right now, BUT if it is loose now, how will it be in a few months.
i had this same problem when buying a Nokia a while back, I went through 4 of them sitting in the store and they all had the same problem, so i gave up and bought a different phone.
i wonder how Devicewire will handle this? as i really dont want to, nor can i be without the phone for too long, but obviously i dont want a faulty unit.
Devicewire if you are listening out there can you advise?
So it seems there are a few of us with that issue, on mine it definitely comes from the front part, not the back. I think I'll take it back and try another one, if it has the same problem I'll pass on the Cruise and get a refund, it really isn't very acceptable to have that type of problem on a €500+ device ! I don't remember reading about any such problems with the Touch or Touch Dual, HTC must have skimped on the glue this time around!
I have triesd to reproduce the screen problems, but I do hear anything at all.
Overall I really like the device, notwithstanding the slightly slow graphics when watching video (although MUCH better than my old Samsung SCH-i730).
T
I have it too. I noticed it after putting on the screenprotecor...and i'm suspecting it has somthing to to with it. The protector is really stiff so it may just be it making that noise....in my case at least...
That might come into play I guess, but mine really had a problem, I took it back to the shop and I had a hard time getting the guys to acknowledge it, but one of them had his own Cruise and when I pressed on the side there was no squeaking at all so that sealed the deal. Unfortunately they had no spare unit so I had to settle for a voucher...
I too have been experiencing the same from the top of the screen after long use It´s a pain, as I am really happy with the Polaris but for the money you´d expect better. I removed the screen protector to see if that was the problem but the sound is still there. It only goes away after the screen has been off for a while.
I have spoken to the shop where I bought it but they said I should get in touch with HTC, however if a lot of devices have the same problem hardly seems worth sending it away....
Anyone else have the same problem???

I Have the same problem but it comes from the screen protector, cuz I get some air between the screen and the protect.
OK... but the problem I have is definately not related to the screen protector as it´s still there without it.
No squeaks at all on the Orbit 2 - I wonder if it's confined to the TC case?
I've got the same squeeking thing with the screen, but it really isn't critical. What is really annoying is the knocking sound that the volume slider produces when shaked or just given a little finger punch. What do you guys say?Is yours fixed tight?
Same problem here. But it takes my mind off what the wife's saying when I'm on the phone to her!
Having the squeaking too, as most of you its still there without the protector
anybody get any noises from the d-pad? whenever i press left, it makes a double click (the standard click when you press in any direction, but after that, it seems to stick a little and click again as if it's sticking to something when i press down, then unsticks and makes a click when that happens). it's bugging the crap out of me and it only does it when i press left. if i press left hard, it stops doing it for 30 seconds or so.. it's not as if i spilled soda or anything on it and it is brand spanking new..

worrisome slider button

can anyone who has had his phone for more than 10 minutes confirm that the little silver slider button on the side of the phone will stay attached to it??
it seems awefully flimsy... (the scroll wheel also)
does this pose a problem?
i have not got to test it yet as i just picked it up from the UPS office.... I CANT WAIT!!
Seems ok.
The Microsoft UI is outdated but the hardware seems solid enough.
Unfortunantly, the slider and scroll wheel are a bit flimsy.
True those controls are rather unhandy (something like the apple iPod's naviagtional wheel would bet more appropriate) but you don't HAVE to use them.
Luckily the scrollwheel is also 4-directional buttons, and that makes up a lot.
ok, i am glad that its not only mine that feels that way, i thought maybe i got a defective unit, but if they are all that way then what can we do!?? hopefully they stay together for a bit.
mine too. just the slider though. but to be honest i haven't really used it until now.

I'll just add that my slider is also pretty loose and jiggles around in its housing. But oddly enough, it is really difficult to push up or down! I have to hook my fingernail on the little raised area in the middle of the slider and push up or down with some considerable force in order to get the volume to change. I changed it to be a scroller with AEButton plus, but it was pretty much unuseable because of this fact, so I changed it back to volume - and I hardly ever use it.
Anyone else with the same experience?
ye p i got the same problem lol.
it does seem like a delicate deivce.
No problems whatsoever, feels better than the same buttons on the Artemis (P3300). The scrollwheel is a lot more precise for functions like adjusting volume and zooming in on photos than any directional button with repeat function could ever be.

Slider and scroll wheel shouldn't be a problem, after 14 months of very hard use the similar items on Artemis have no problems...
thanks... for the response to these questions.
one cant be too worried about a product that they just shelled out a bunch of $$$ for.
as someone said, the slider is really used that much, but the scroll wheel still feels extremely cheap to me.
maybe had they had put a bit of resistance on it it would feel more "attached"
anyway, thanks...

That's funny - my scroll wheel is so tight that I can hardly get it to move! I have hold the TC in one hand and use my index finger in the other hand with pressure to get it to budge. Maybe it will loosen up with time. I hope so, cause it sucks for one handed use. Too bad we can't meet in the middle, xrrkrrkx!
Had to edit this post - I found that it was just because the air is so damn dry here this winter! My thumb is so dry, it just slips over the wheel instead of getting any friction. If I quickly lick the end of my thumb and then use the wheel, it works like a charm - just can't share my phone now! Now that I read this, that's probably more than you guys wanted to know!

Front screen 'wobble'

I've had my touch pro for nearly two weeks now. I'm liking it a lot.
Now, in my unfortunate hamfistedness, I've managed to drop it. Didn't seem like it'd caused much of a problem.
But I've noticed that the front screen 'wobbles' a bit. Not much, and not enough to be particularly annoying, but I was wondering if there was an easy way to tighten it up again, so it stopped doing that?
Mine has done this from new.
With the device in your right hand with screen facing up the slide part of the screen wobbles on the left side.
Annoying.
Well, I must confess I didn't notice whether it did or not initially, so I'm only assuming it didn't.
It's pretty trivial, and doesn't really affect anything, but ... well, would rather it didn't, really

ok....mine too... but it seems most sliders have that. it was very tight the first few days, but after quite some sliding the screen is slightly off center to the right shifted. and it wobbles a bit.
my kaiser had the same issue....but i had to drop that one for that...
I too have the same problem. was wondering if one of the cases that has the keyboard cover would prevent this wobble or some sort of skin. Thanks and sorry for bringing back such an old thread.

Fuze Hinge Flex - Video to Compare

So I just wanted to compare with others on here to see if the small hinge flex that I have is normal.
I tool a quick video so we can discuss differences.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfiRhNkkZiE
Just to clarify...I'm looking for any responses as to whether or not this is normal or more than you currently have.
I never would have noticed it otherwise, but my Fuze has exactly the same amount of movement yours does in the video. Looking at how the slider works it makes sense that it can tilt a little on that edge. I'm pretty sure it's normal.
Thanks for the confirmation. I just wanted to be sure of everything within the first 30 days since it's expensive
Just picked mine up on Friday and it has the same amount of flex. Suppose it's normal or within the normal limits.
Exact same as mine.
Yep same as mine here. Mine is slightly messed up though. Mine slides back too much and the top section does not properly align with the bottom section. A little annoyance but not enough to take it back, especially after all I've done to it.
Same flex
Yep, my fuze has the same flex, and I've been obsessively careful with it since I got it 5 days ago.
I dont have that play wit mine. i'm sure if i stick something like a knife under the screen it will but as far as with my hand, Na

Hmm, that's odd. It's almost impossible to have 0 play in a slider type device since the surface area where the slider attaches is so small. Even my tilt has 1-2mm of it. Oh well, good for you
my sprint pro has about the same, maybe slightly less, but there is some play.
Also see:
Touch Pro wobbly keyboard issue
Rather than get into a long story...I'll just say I ended up getting a new Fuze and it does not have the flex I displayed in the original video.
Guess it's hit or miss.
ya i have the same wobble in my fuze.. seems shady since my tilt seems much more solid.. i may go exchange it as well
UPDATE: i went to the at&t store and compared my fuze to the display model and another one they pulled from the back, and mine had a lot more wobble than theirs (mine had as much as the OP's). Needless to say, i exchanged it out... now to put all my settings back...
My first fuze was extremely 'wobbly' - 2nd fuze was less so. 3rd one was perfect. There's a specific level of tolerance before they let these out of the factory, btw. You can find the exact value in mm in the service manual..
ya this was my 3rd one as well i guess third times the charm
I've noticed that the ones that aren't as tight have nicer feeling slide mechanisms. Mine seems to be somewhere in the middle.
for me the most annoying thing was that when i pressed down on the left side of the screen i could feel the whole screen moving up and down. it gave it a real cheap feeling and it just felt very flimsy. so i definately recommend changing it out if ur still within ur 30 day return period.

Loose hard buttons?

First post, I have searched but didn't find anything on this in the forum. So I received my Fuze yesterday via mail from AT&T and I have been playing with it and it is a great device. I have noticed that on my Fuze the hard buttons on the bottom seem to move around on the right hand side as if they were loosely connected. I have made a youtube video to show this movement and I am wondering if this is normal for the Fuze/Touch Pro or if mine may be defective. Thanks for any help in advance and I will certainly be using this forum for lots, good community you have here.

16 views and noone can verify if their Fuze also has loose keys on the bottom? I thought this one would surely get a quick response since it is so simple.
I just want to know if I should not worry about it or if I should consider sending it back before I start to get into flashing ROMs and whatnot. It very well could be that this is just the way it was designed but I have no idea.
Mine also does it. Never payed attention until you pointed it out. Not too worried about it though.
I'm also not too worried about it myself but just wondering if that is something standard with the device or if only some of them do it? Thanks for the response.
This is certainly faulty. My TP keys move a little bit, but not that much. I am sure yours is buggy. But... I think it is not getting worse because the movement is limited by the frame
My TyTNII/TIlt did the same thing and HTC said this was normal. I just hope they don't decide to make a car, the wheels would fall off any they would tell you it was normal.
I did end up sending a message to HTC to see what they had to say. I'll inform if i get a response.
I've had 4 units, all of them did it but one, and that one had a pad piece that was such a tight fit that it rubbed on the bottom of the screen when you pressed the home or back button. They all seem to be slightly different sizes.
When you buy HTC, don't examine too closely or you'll always be disappointed.

My HTC Fuze (AT&T) does not have loose key on the bottom.
my Fuze is rock solid. It is a perfect fit, sturdy, and held in place.
Looks like your touchpad has a broken screw hole or missing a screw entirely. I definatly wouldn't be satisified with that.
I have checked 2 and both had the loose button panel
HTC responded with:
Thank you for sending your email inquiry about your device.
I understand you have an HTC Fuze with AT&T service and your device may have loose buttons on the right side. I know that this situation can be frustrating when your device buttons do not perform the way you expect. If you suspect the buttons are loose, you should contact AT&T about this issue. They maybe able to exchange or replace the device for you.
Robert, I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

So I went to the AT&T Store to talk to one of them and to check the phone there and that display phone had the loose buttons. I am going to try to check the rest of the stores. I am going to hang onto mine as it really isnt an issue and I still have the warranty if something goes wrong. Still I would like to get this poll filled out as it is now an interesting thing to me.
I bought mine on 1/27 and it is loose on the right side too
I went through three Fuzes for various different problems. The one I have now has an uneven lower button area...the left side facing up is higher than the right which causes a sharp corner. I was just happy it wasnt worse. If you compare the build quality to the sprint's touch pro there is no comparison, the sprint version is solid, every one I've handled has felt well built and had no problems like this.
Mine does exactly the same, had it for a week, but only noticed it yesterday. Probably not quite as bad as the video tho....
My Kaiser also does it but i'm not worried out that as the button pad is 'encapsulated' by the cover and doesn't any where near like the TP. The other thing I'm not too keen on is the hard qwerty keyboard doesn't feel as robust as my kaiser one either.
This is must disconcerting as I look after my phones really well.....
