Problem with transferring duplicate sim contacts to phone ... - General Topics

Hi guys ....
I just reflashed the phone with crc32 winmobile 6.1 version.
Normally I have in my SIM card duplicates like this (that came from my motorola before this):
name1 mobilephone1
name1 homephone1
name1 someotherphone1
name2 mobilephone2
name2 ...
and so on. I try to transfer them with SIM manager, select all, copy to phone, but the duplicates it either wants to overwrite or skip. that's over 50 entries, so it's pointless to copy by hand, I can forget something.
Is it possible to do real copy of them without losing data?
Second question: Is it possible to somehow correctly sync (SyncML protocol) to gsmsync.net ... I could not find any free tool, the only one I've found (that MIGHT) work asks for 60$ My Motorola V3X was able to do it out of the box ... really useful for synchronizations, since I'm not using ms windows on my computer.
Also, SyncML *might* be the solution, as on the syncml server all contacts are correctly organized
My phone is AT&T 8525 if this matters
thanks in advance

Accessing storage card from apps on PC

I would like to sync all the files on my phone (M600) storage card to my PC, so I have a backup. I have a sync app (good sync) on my PC and ideally would just like to set it to sync the storage card to a folder on the PC every night.
Is there a UNC path or similar that will let me access the storage card from a PC app? In explorer it just shows "\Storage Card", but that only works in an explorer window that is already 'inside' the mobile device.
I know there are backup apps that will backup the whole card, and I use sprite backup to backup the device memory, but creating lots of very large backup files (mostly with mp3s and map files on them) doesn't seem like a very efficient way of doing things.
thanks
mark.
If you really want to backup the whole card, how are you going to get away from having some very large backup files? (summing your card is very big too lol)
Depending on what OS you're using, there are various options for mapping the Storage Card to at as a USB Drive. It'll be assigned a drive letter, and you can backup normally through the PC.
There are free options on WM5, paid for versions on WM2003.
V
Thanks - mounting as a drive letter would be perfect. Could you please point me in the direction of one of these programs (for WM5) - I couldn't find any on handago or pocketgear.
Search for WM5torage

V
Thanks. Unfortunately, I don't think WM5torage will work for me - you have to manually activate/deactivate it and when it is activated the phone can't access the card and activesync doesn't work. It's very much a manual solution, in which case it would be as easy to manually remove the card and plug it into my pc direct.
What I am hoping for is something that just runs permanently in the background without getting in the way of normal operation, so I can automatically schedule a sync each night.
What are the commercial options? I don't mind buying if the price is reasonable.
Haven't seen a commercial solution, but I guess you could use mortscript or skschema to schedule WM5torage, run it at say 11pm-12am, and at the same time cause your pc to do a backup of the now visible card.
After 12am, have your scheduler app disable WM5torage. All good hopefully.
There used to be 3rd party software for PocketPC that could map the storage to a Drive Letter, but I haven't seen it for many years.
V
Thanks vijay - that might be a workable solution. I'll give it a try. It would be nice if there was something a little more straightforward though!

You can try Card Export II for pocketPC.
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
Unfortunatly wm5torage nor cardexport2 work on my TyTN
Anyone knows a suitable app for the Hermes?
Card Export II didn't seem to offer anything different from WM5torage.
I've tried using skschema and WM5torage and while it's a little 'manual' to set up, it works pretty well so far. Good Sync on my PC can be set to sync whenever it sees a specific new disc mounted, so all I had to do was schedule WM5torage to switch to USB drive mode at night, and then back again to normal mode 30 mins later.
Thanks everyone for the pointers!

Activesync - "exact" syncronisation?

Hi,
I won´t bore you with the complicated story that put me in this situation.
What I would like is this…
1. That the calender and tasks FROM the computer is exactly syncronised TO the smartphone.
With "exactly" I mean that if there for example are objects on the Smartphone that are not on the computer those should be removed. No objects, wheter updated later on the smartphone or not, should be taken into consideration.
2. The second thing I would like is the reverse, namely that the "Files" folders FROM the Smartphone i exactly (as described above) syncronised TO the computer.
Please be concrete in any advice I am new in the game, and the active sync help is not much of help
/Danne
Sweden
ActiveSync will not do this as it will *synchronise* your PC, and phone.
It sounds like you just want is one way synchronisation, something ActiveSync can not do.
Pumasoft's Intellysync used to do one way synchronisation, but I am not sure if it's available as a standalone desktop application anymore.
I am unsure why you need only one way transfer though, if yo uare away from your desk, and you make an appointment on the phone, why wouldn't you want this updated on your PC?
Also with the files, they should update both ways, nothing will go to the phone unless you change it on the PC, so that should already work as you require.
too bad... I guess you are shure about this.
Do you know why then it is possible in Activesync (Tools / Alternatives /)
too choose from what I want to syncronise in the:
Hermes / TyTN
VS.
The PC?
What is that function for, why is it splitted?
Ok, I will explain the background.
I exported outlook and what I didn´t know was that the things I had exported before would come back when I Imported outlook again (.pst - file).
So on my travel I was stuck with lots of information that was outdated.
(Pocket PC:n could not syncronise all the info I had so therefore the export to external harddrive.)
So I decided to temporarily use only the files and contact parts of outlook and then one way syncronise it the best parts of what I had on the Pocket PC vs. home computer outlook.
I have enormous amounts of information i outlook so it will be some work to get rid of the outdated info - and the outdated info is not always older than the updated.
/Danne
OK let me get this right.
Your PC is correct.
Your phone is outdated.
If this is right, then delete the activesync connection to your phone, and recreate a new one. When it asks you if you want to combine items, or overwrite them, just overwrite them, and this will replace everything on the phone with what is on the computer.
Yes that sounds like a good solution!
As said I am new and don´t know the how´s.
But first I will syncronise only contacts and files since these are the most updated on the Pocket PC.
But do you know why there is a split between sync between the Pocket PC and the Home PC? (tools / settings)
Should the settings be that all relevant things are checked on both units?
Thanks!
/Danne
I have to to to town for a while, will be back in a couple of hours.
/D
Even thou I erased the mobile from active sync and restarted the computer it had saved the files somewhere and I wasn´t given the option to erase what was on the mobile more than mediaplayers files.
Welll... there will be some work but..
End of story.

In which file is the call history stored?

Hi,
I would like to know in which file the phone (mine is an HTC Artemis P3300 = XDA Orbit with WM6) stores the call history (outgoing and incoming numbers).
I know that there are tools for exporting this data, but they are of no use for me now because my phone's display broke a few days ago, and all I have are the files that I could copy to my PC via ActiveSync (all except some that were locked).
If I know which one is the correct file, I could copy it to my new phone and retrieve the call history from there.
Thanks

I think all this is stored in PIM.vol, but I may be wrong.
I have written an app to read from it only, but all that is done via the API on phone.dll.
On the other hand, have you tried an app such as MyMoblier, it allows you VNC style access to your phone, you should then be able to install a product like PIM backup and backup you call logs.

Thanks!
Indeed I tried to use MyMobiler to install a backup program, but since MyMobiler was not installed on my mobile phone before, I never got it running. For a successful installation you have to perform some action on the touchscreen, but if the display is dark your chances are rather bad.
Happily, with the help of ActivSync I managed to save many files. And pim.vol was within those. I restored that file to my new phone and voila, my call history is there again!
By the way, that app that you wrote for reading pim.vol, where can I find it?
Cheers

I never released the App, it has no UI output.
If you can code, I suggest you have a look on MSDN for help writing the app.

i700 to i760 contact/calendar transfer w/o internet or PC

Hi all,
To make a long story short, I basically need to transfer contacts and calendar from a Samsung i700 (SD Card) to a Samsung i760 (microSD I believe) and I don't have internet on the phones and the phones will not sync to my PC (lets not get into that...long story short, remember). I need only basically those 2 items from the phone.
What I have thought of is backing up the PIM on the i760 then putting it on my computer through a card reader and using an adapter take the data to the i760 and using the same backup software, restore that file.
Here's my problem though (if you agree this is my best solution), the i760 will not see the .cab file for spb backup (which I tried to install for example to do the backup). Is there a reason? Does WM2003 not see cab files or was I maybe installing a version too new for the phone? Any other ideas? I saw an XML Contact backup utility before but then it skips over my calendar. Any help is greatly appreciated!

kitting and staging 1,700 Motorola ES400's by 9/2/11 help with contacts

Hi everyone!
Started a new job and trying to make a good impression. I need help Staging and Kitting 1700 Moto ES400 devices running Windows Mobile 6.5 by this weekend. Each device will need to be identical to each other. The changes that I need to make are below. I was able to copy and load all the changes on 200 devices so far using rem-capture.
1.Loading new apps on the Doc
2.Creating a new App view and making it the primary
3.Setting home page to company's website in IE
4.Loading a PDF doc
5. Install Truck- tracking system
6. Delete all contact and load 5 new contacts
I renamed the empty pim.vol and dropped the new pim.vol containg the 5 contacts and did a restarted the device. But the contact list is still empty. I cant figure out how to get the device to see the new pim.vol has 5 contacts saved in it. Could someone please help me with this?
I dont want to use a 3rd party tool or program that I would have to load on the actual device since I have over 1400 left to do. If I would have to use a tool for this I would need one that runs from the computer.
