WM5storage on HTC Herald - General Topics

Hi,
I have small problem with WM5Storage 1.8 on my Herald. If I plug HTC heral to computer where is installed Win XP, everything works my copying speed in both directions are app. 700KB/s. But if I am on computer where is Win Vista installed, only one direction works correctly ( from Herald -> PC ). The speed from PC > to Herald is app. 30KB/s.
Please can you help ? How can I solve this issue in Vista, some special drivers ?

i thought wm5torage was just slow!
i want a fix for this too!

Turn your device to USB flash drive

Softick Card Export II for Pocket PC turns your Pocket PC and Windows Mobile PDA into USB flash drive.

Holy crap, this is nice.
But trial version? Please make sure you mention things like this =]
But yeah, installed, tested great. Puts a little icon in your "System Tray" to select between "Activesync" and "Card Reader".
Works on my Magician, connecting to XPSP1 machine. Yes, it had to install drivers but the drivers were native so in about 10 seconds I had access to my SD Card.
Did a quick file transfer test - MUCH faster than Activesync.
This might save me having to carry my card reader everywhere, despite the fact that the cable doubles as my Magician charger ;D
Now check this
change your owner name to
Dcs [RCAPDA]
then see what happen
Haha, thanks, but I've already fixed that little problem ;D
No go with the latest Qtek rom.
It say's you will have to download the newest USB driver ?!?!?
I discoverd that this one is for WM2003, downloaded the one for wm2005 but won't work either.
Lets see if there is an update some day.
Cheers,

on the download site
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
there are three downloads
1. ZIP Microsoft Windows Installation (English)
2. CAB package for Windows Mobile 2003 (English)
3. CAB package for Windows Mobile 2005 (English)
first one ZIP is ver 2.21
others are ver 2.11
try the zip
and they say
We are permanently developing support for the new devices. Tell us what device support do you need.
try it hope you get some luck
hay Jed D`Lagged tell me the secret
next time i will be careful to mention about trial versions
Unfortunately, it seems only to function in Read-only mode on WM2005, and quite slowly too. (at least on my himalaya)
You can make your phone a USB drive without extra software. I have read that it can be done. Havn't done it yet with my 6700, but did with my 6600 but cant remember how I did it
The WM5 one works a treat on my Universal and Wizard. Or rather,it did untill I upgraded the roms to direct push capable ones. Now I have to disable direct push and kill activesync before switching the card export to 'export' mode. Irritating but still quiet usable.
If you're worried about the trial version you could alway, er, buy it! It's cheep!
USB mass storage driver
i dont know what is this & what will it do ?
USB mass storage driver is free for personal use
http://www.deje.gmxhome.de/software.html
... wrong way around. That installs a driver that let's you plug USB thumb drives into your PocketPC.
Although... I don't know any Pocket PC devices that have a USB Slot A connection?
The Fujistu-Siemens Loox (older model) had a USB host.
Thanks

2577 won't autorun

Hi all, new here. Be gentle...
I've seen this problem alluded to elsewhere but I'm still confused.
I'm trying to install tomtom6 on an IPAQ3850.
Pocket PC 3
ARM SA1110 processor.
I have an SD card with the tomtom software, with 2577 folder which
holds autorun.exe, autorun.exe-run, ttn2003.cab and ttn.cab files.
When I insert the SD card I believe it should execute the autorun file
but nothing happens.
I have read this ( http://tinyurl.com/ywayr8 ) but am still a little confused about the 2577 folder feature.
I have tried manually executing the ttn2003 cab file, which extracts, seems to
install but fails when I try to run via the tomtom icon.
I believe 2577/autorun feature can be disabled in the registry. If so, how do I check if mine is disabled?
I know my way round a PC's registry but I don't know how to access a pda's registry.
Should I be able to manually execute the autorun.exe in the 2577 folder and expect it to install in a similar way as executing setup.exe on a CD / DVD if no autorun activated?
Yes, I think it can be disabled in the registry, although I don't know which key. About how to access it, there are many registry editors, and they work exactly like the Windows version so you won't have a problem with that. Among other apps you can use for that:
- PHM Regedit
- Resco Explorer
- SkTools
- etc
About Tomtom: do you have a start.exe file in the root of the SD card? I believe that's necessary.
Last but not least: yes you can execute autorun.exe manually
Cheers!
Hi,
The Ipaq 3850 comes with Windows for PocketPC 2002 and TomTom6 requires Windows for PocketPC 2003-there is an upgrade available on eBay for just £2-3.There are different vesionds for the 3850 and 3870 so make sure to buy the right one.I applied this WM2003 to my 3850 and also my 3870 and installed TomTom6 and it works well..
Ashley
Ineluki, thanks for your reply. After reading AshleySear's reply I was looking in the settings to see what version I had and noticed the autorun feature. It was disabled...
Strange, I thought it would have been enabled after I did a cold reset to set it back to factory default.
AshleySear, I think you may be on to something. In 'settings/about' it shows pocket pc version 3. In my ignorance I thought that *was* 2003. I'd be interested to hear what your ipaq has in 'settings/about'.
My Ipaq 3850 with WM2003:TomTom Nav6 is OK
Bios 3.00
OS:Microsoft PocketPC 4.20.1081 build13100
Prior to upgrade WM2002:TomTom Nav6 would not istall
Bios 1.2
OS:Microsoft PocketPC ?
Hope this helps.
If you do upgrade to WM2003 you lose everything and need to create a new partnership.
Currently I use a kaiser-so bith the 3850 and 3870 are in a box
Let me know how you get on.

Hi Ashley,
As you suggested; bought an upgrade on EBAY for £1.75 to Pocket PC 2003. Exactly the same OS build as you. Tomtom6 loaded straight away, maps recognised OK.
Please accept a virtual pint from me in appreciation.
Incidentally, where do you see which BIOS you are using?
Hi,
As you cold start/hard reset the iPaq the red/white screen, booton right corner it says something like BIOS 3.00
FYI
1.10,1.15,1.20=Ipaq 3800 without bluetooth & Windows for PocketPC2002
2.10,2.15,2.20=Ipaq 3800 with bluetooth & Windows for PocketPC2002
3.00=Ipaq 3800 without bluetooth & Windows for PocketPC2003
4.00=Ipaq 3800 with bluetooth & Windows for PocketPC2003
Glad to be of help.

Windows Live Messenger for PPC: Problem installing

I recently bought a new SDHC card and decided to hard reset the PDA (FSC loox N560 with WM6) and install everything from the begining. The problem is that WLM will not work. I tried installing 10.6.33.0600 and 10.6.34.0800 but neither of them work. It installs ok, but the messenger doesn't even start (it doesn't show in the list of active programs). I tried cleaning the registry in safe mode and everything but the darn thing refuses to work. The funny thing is that before the hard-reset WLM worked like a charm. Btw I'm installing on device memory not the card. Anybody has any insight on this?
The list of currently installed programs:
Paragon Software PenReader
JetCet print5 SDK
Chapura PocketMirror
Microsoft .NET CF 3.5
Garmin Mobile XT
DVHA_79 Adobe Flash3.1 plugin
Adobe FlashLite
Opera Software 9
Macromedia flash Player ActiveX
SPB Weather
Pocket Xpdf
WebIS FlexMail
Spb GPRS Monitor
Pocket Mechanic
Resco Explorer
Resco Keyboard Pro
GreateVK & 777-Team - SD Drivers for SDHC
I'll be grafeful for any solution to this
UPDATE: i did a hardreset again and the first thing (after SDHC driver) I installed was WLM and it doesn't work... I tried all the available versions and no luck. I guess it's the SDHC drivers then? Anyone with similar experience?

Can't browse too many folders on mobile device without explorer crash

I have two completely different computers, both running Windows XP Professional SP3. One's my work PC, and the other's a home built one.
The situation is, whether it's my StarTrek phone, my HTC Kaiser (AT&T Tilt), or even the AT&T 8525 I had before that, if I go into My Computer > Mobile Device > My Windows Mobile-Based Device, as soon as I click on Storage Card, Windows Explorer closes and reopens itself. There's a log in the Application Event Viewer which says:
Source: Winlogon
Event ID: 1002
The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.
I then tried to check "Launch each folder in a separate process" in Tools>Folder Options>View, but I get the same problem.
Strangely it happens on both computers, which have very different configurations. At my previous employer it happened there as well, which was again a different computer of course.
So I thought maybe it's my Storage Card, because that's the common denominator. It's a 1GB Corsair Micro SD card. Well not exactly, because I can go to the Program Files folder on my AT&T Tilt for example, but then no matter what folder I try to enter in there, explorer closes again.
I'm running ActiveSync Version 4.5.0 (Build 5096), and I don't think there's another version available for Windows XP.
Any ideas? Thanks for reading!
Update:
I can easily browse any folders if I plug my phone into a Windows Vista machine.
Guess there's a bug in Windows XP SP3 explorer.exe and activesync 4.5. Same exact device, memory card, and usb cable work flawlessly in Vista.

Samsung i780, Windows Mobile 6.5

Hey guys.
How do I install 6.5 on my i780? Guide, anyone?
Few other questions:
-Is it stable enough to use?
-What will happens to my files and programmes?
-Is it fully supported by my phone?
Thanks
You can find how to flash on this forum in i780's threads, basically you need an xp pc, mirage, modem drivers and activesync.
-It's stable except for a mouse bug (when you move the cursor a little square appears on the screen)
-Flashing the device you'll lose everything (except for the files stored in the micosd card) but you can backup sms, calls, contacts etc (no files and no installed programs) with a software called pimbackup
-Yeah but it has the mouse bug (for me it's terrible, but maybe you can live with it)
Ah I see. I'll go look for the stuff and give it a try.
Also.. I heard something about bricking your device? Does this occur often?
Mouse bug shouldn't annoy me that much, since I use the D-pad function.
Thanks for the info
EDIT: I'm using Windows 7, but I can also switch to XP. I have the Activesync program for Windows 7, so would it work?
thanks too
The flashing program (mirage) only works under xp (there are some ways to use it on vista but i suggest you to use xp, i flash from a virtual machine under win7 x64 without problems).
Bricking the device is possible, someone bricked his device and some others people didn't. I hope you're not in the 1st group. This doesn't happens really often but the risk of bricking exists.
i m using samsung i750 How do I install 6.5 on my i750? Guide, anyone?

thx.
