Windows Mobile 6
WCDMA and GSM
and it starts at $195?
is this some kind of fantasy?
It is real, but it is far from $195, closer to $800. According to them it is scheduled to come out in December but you won't see it until next year.
May i remind you that i've never heard of Meizu before, its a newcomer, expect bugs and even shortcuts...

Meizu has been making MP3 players ( http://en.meizu.com/ ) for 4 years, but that's true: they hasn't made any Windows CE based device ever, until now.
I supose this Phone has Windows CE 6.0 Core, and own GUI so it can be uncompatible with Windows Mobile 6 stuff (CE 5.2)
They are offering another Iphone clone for 169 Euros in the NL. The CECT Clone. So the pricing could be correct.
This will run probably CE 5.2 so we can take all the goodies we have to this phone and from this phone!

Yes, As I read it doesn't run WM6 but Windows CE 6.0 under a special miniOne GUI so it can't run conventional Pocket PC apps. Unless the miniOne GUI only an app which runs on WM6 but I haven't read about this anywhere, so it isn't likely.
It can run most PPC apps, that's real.
Yeah, multitouch and USB Host / Client
now that's what i call an iPhone killer :O
the functions / ui of the apple phone + the things i love about wm (great community, so much programs, etc.)
I just stopped into a Meizu store today (I live in china) and saw this phone and heard of it for the first time. It looks very cool though. The price is around $350 US and has 8GB and is multi-touch. I think I want one
it definitely looks as the best PMP player and phone together.
if only it could run WM apps, it would rock..
Apps on Meizu
I got my hands on one of these devices and it is pretty slick. There are still lots of bugs in the os, but new versions are still being put out there. It sucks that it does not run WM apps. I have found 2 that work. Coreplayer and TCPMP run well on it, but really are not needed because the integrated player works well.
I am hoping someone will develop a Windows Mobile rom that will run on this device. It would really rock.
i really want this phone. It may not be an HTC phone but Meizu has some big potential.

in some Onlinestore`s
the Technical Data Rocks,
soo i ll say ,
but think, its a big Problem,
with runing, all the Win CE / WIMO
Software, and on a lot of Threads i
read, that the Bugs almost not
solved from one to another Firmware
they always only put
only new Options in
and didnt Solve the Bugs
USB Host OTG i am not sure that is implemtet,
and TV Out, also too not implementet yet.
will wait and give Meizu
a Chance to come with a good Concept !
Stable and Bugfree Sortware and OS

Hi
Do you think Windows mobile 7 will be available for Universal?
Considering the fact Windows Mobile 6 wasn't - I'd say No.
No
Non of the current windows mobile phones will have upgrade to windows mobile 7, it must have a diffrent hardware ( which is not in any current phone).
For Example : the multi touch screen
Although WM7 itself won't be, there will likely be some things that can be extracted and ported to the Uni. For example, FlashLite 3, if it isn't generally released for WM devices.
-PJC
The porting of WM7 to Universal down the line is VERY POSSIBLE (Thumbs Up)....however again depending on the timeframe and is basic requirements we should have better knowledge. How it will fare against new WM 7 devices am not sure, but I believe it will be pretty good. Even today, Universal is still in the top 5 devices of all time and still the best in terms many areas including Speakers, Screen, and keyboard (still the easiest to use, and easier than Touch Pro ...yeah really)...
Officially WM 7 will never be a part of Universal..Universal's production is at it's end..(was over for most retailers ages ago)..of course unsold boxes are still around.
Anyone know any specifics about release dates etc? Wouldn't mind changing 6.5 for something a little newer. If I hadn't absolutely hated Nokia and Mac I would've started looking for something else by now
Cheers!

October to November is currently the best guess.
Recent rumours are suggesting that there may be two different versions of WM7, a stripped down "Business" version and a richer "Media" one, with Business being out Q4 this year, and Media not till next year.
if they split it up like that then I wonder why they'd need 6.5 anymore....
I recall first plans were WM 6.5 for media hype and WM 7 for business. Even if I thought this didn't make a lot sense to not have the new OS for media bimm bamm.
Rumours are also that it's no longer based on Windows CE, but on the Zune HD kernel instead; that it WON'T be backwards compatible with earlier versions, and won't run on 99.9% of existing WM devices.

IF the rumours are true, it'll be a blow for existing software BUT, a good step for Microsof to take. I mean, have you seen the Zune HD's UI? WM7 is meant to be using that, and if so, iPhone is in trouble.
well if it runs .net then at least some apps would work
There is even newer rumor or supposedly unofficial response from microsoft, about this CE rumor. Ant it states, that Wm 7 bill be using CE7. And CE7 was already offcialy announced as to it will be using ARMv6 arhitecture.
And there is a Microsoft Commercial, where you can see some WM7-style thing beeing run on HTC touch Pro, and Xperia X1. So ported it will be, but how fast will it work on such devices, having only MSM7200.

It's false.
I don't know if it definitely CE7, though it probably is. I am hearing that it can run 6.x apps so long as they are the same resolution. Trying to get more info.

6.5 is for cheaper, lower-specification hardware. Remember that the HD2 represents the least powerful, lowest resolution device capable of running WM7. Any new WM phone with a hardware spec in any way inferior to the HD2 will run WM6.5 instead of 7.
read this:

there's only 1 choice left for us: 100% stable android rom.

I'm not 100% sure about that. The problem is that Windows Mobile 7 will run on either Windows CE 6 or 7, as opposed to the Windows CE 5 comprising Windows Mobile 5.x and 6.x. Someone will likely have to create nearly every low level component from scratch, so the OS will support the older unsupported hardware. It might be doable, but it won't be as simple as running 6.5 on a WM 6 device. There's a thread here which goes into more detail concerning Windows Mobile 7 on a current generation device (Touch Pro2), and it doesn't look good.

Until MS officially announce something, everything we hear about WM7 is going to be rumour; and one rumour can't refute another because they're both just that, rumours.
We'll have to see if they drop any more info in Feb.

Well it was also possible to run 6.5 on PPC 2003 devices. Probably not really stable but it was possible. but anyway I don't really care. 6.5.x will stay on my Topaz and I'll pick up a new phone for WM 7 of course

Yes, but every version of Windows Mobile from 5.0 onwards has been based on the same Windows CE kernel; that's one reason why other OSes (like Android) run so much faster than WinMo on the same hardware, and permit 720p video recording, etc. - a lot of the underlying code in WinMo hasn't been upgraded in six years.
To put it in desktop PC terms, going from Windows Mobile 5.0 all the way up to WinMo 6.5 is the equivalent of going from Windows 95 to Windows ME - it's still basically the same OS, just with a few tweaks to the UI. By contrast, going to WM7 will be like going from Windows ME to Windows Vista - a completely different operating system kernel, with a completely different driver model.
The drivers will be the biggest problem. Unless there is some device out there that officially runs WM7 and which uses exactly the same component as one on your target platform, there simply won't be anywhere you can get a driver file from; and even if such a thing exists, piecing together complete support for every component of a device by picking and choosing driver files from many different platforms would be an enormous effort.
There is a reasonable chance that we will see WM7 running on the HD2, even if there isn't an official release; that's because HTC is apparently using the HD2 as a WM7 development platform, so if someone leaks the ROM they use for testing, the cooks here could probably cobble together something reasonable using it as a basis. But for any other device, realistically there is no chance at all.
Look Here
Its CE 7.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618631
odd would be the first time ever ms made a wm release based on a ce core not available already and tested for stability
Probably everybody already knows that Microsoft was working on totally new Windows mobile version what will have multi touch gestures and fully revamped UI something like Vista style.
The latest news is that it will be shown off at Mobile World Congress next month with expected release date late this year. I hope to see some leeks very soon in these forums
You can read full article here.
Cheers, whitealien
it could be very interesting, get it works on polaris
I'm scared that it'll be too heavy for the Polaris isn't it?
And no multi-touch for us, or am I wrong? Don't know if multitouch is possible with resistive technology :/
polaris cant even touch win7. we might get cooked ROMs with similar UI
Thank you for the news.
what he meant is be prepared to buy a new powerful device ...

from what i know not even HTC LEO is confirmed to run it smoothly as it only meets minimum specs (and all devices below it cant run wm7)...
im gonna be looking for tegra devices...

sounds pointless, i'm sick of buying phone os's that need a quicker CPU than the average laptop.
iv'e been waiting for the next SPB Mobile Shell to come out for download. does anybody know when it's going to be available? i have 3.5 but i really want 5.0. there was an article that came out in february about it coming to android, symbian and wm but i still haven't seen a download for it. any thoughts??
I just got an update mail by SPB yesterday and I thought: "yes, MS5.0 is out!!"
And then I read that it was only a 3.5.5 update for Symbian.....
i believe this platform won't be released until winter. main reason is the launch for all major device OS, instead of just wm6.0 +, now windows phone 7, android, nokia Symbian, iphone 3 &4 ++ compatibility. i don't understand why they jumped over version 4, and instead called it 5.0! it makes no sense!! SPB makes solid products, it doesn't really matter how long it takes to release because you know what your buying is going to perform like a champ. also if sales are still strong for 3.5 why end a strong line up in marketing.

Besides if it is out they are trying to keep it a secret.... only 3.5.5 on their website
lol de wolf ... i did the same exact thing. i was like..yes finally! but when i found out it wasn't,i still downloaded that version thinking..maybe there's something new thrown in. if there is..i can't tell.lol
Did SPB close their Forums? I use to go there and lately I cannot link up? Thanks!
im just hoping our version doesnt get dropped in favour of total wm7 support.......i really enjoy having spb 3.5 running along side CHT. by the way, what does the new version have to offer?, anyone know...?
I think that there will not be a SPB mobile Shell 5.
Windows Phone 7 is born, and htc is going to Android.
So Wimo 6.5.X is not in good health.....

spb 5 whil come since its for wimo 6.5 and android devices plus also symbian and dekstop here is spb 5 running on nexus
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sS_aQKJ-Zc8
Still no news?
Considering this was announced in faburary it makes no sense to hold back the other platforms while waiting for others to be released. SPB won't be allowed by MS to run this on WP7, it will be on WM6 only.
I was initially excited as this could have made me switch from Sense UI to spb shell 5 on my HTC HD2, but they have taken so long I think I'll already switch to WP7 before shell 5 is out.
It's over 7 months since it was announced, why did they bother until they were ready?
Here is a link I found for more info and a video of SPB Shell 5
