Hi,
I have just taken delivery of my new Touch cruise which I am really quite happy with - except perhaps one thing - the sound of the phone. It seems to be a bit distorted, like the earpiece rattles a bit - does everyone else's do this too and its just a case of getting use to it, or have I got a faulty one ?
Yeah i got the same problem too. They replaced the mainboard, but it doesn't help. I,m going to return it for the second time now..i hope they will fix it now.
btw if you press hard against the earpiece, the "rattly" noise will dissapear ( for just couple of minutes :S ).

Ummm, interesting !
This suggested that it was perhaps the speaker just rattling too much, and if it was pushed down, thus stopping it from moving so much, that the sound would improve.
To test this I cut a small amount of cotton of the top of a cotton bud (AKA a Q-Tip for our American brethren) and put it in through the open earpiece, and then (lightly) forced it down toward the bottom of the speaker.
Hey Presto it done the trick, the sound is much much much better and is actually really quite good now !
Perhaps not the most sophisticated fix in the world, but it works for me, and it means I don't have to clear all info off the phone to send it back and then wait 5 weeks for a repair.

I know sounds a bit silly, but when I move my $750 TC the volume button on the left side seems to jiggle. It makes a noise like a cracker jack toy. It's annoying to me, but if any and everyone else notice I would not feel so bad about it.
ditto.
also the aluminum d pad scratches easily. hairline scratches..arggg
Mine is solid...
The same problem with my volume button. I was surprised when I discovered where that silly sound comes from. Not acceptable for such an expensive device.
Same problem with mine as well.
Yeah mine also is pretty loose
The same here...
Can only hear it slightly if you shake the device voilently. Can see it becoming a little looser over time.
I have the same experience in my TC too
same here !!!
Though I was the lucky one. Guess not.
I agree that this is totally unacceptable.
Looks like HTC just don't want to make a 100% perfect device. At least one little problem exists here or there (besides the driver issue).
same same on my damn cruise...
Same for me .. really a boring noise..
Mine too, actually noticed it right after I took it out of the box. Problem is I like this phone the most out of all of the ones I've had so far, so I tend to over look it.
HTC seems to love making loose devices. The TyTN II hard key face plate on the front is very loose too. Nice to know that selling my TyTN II to try and get away from shotty workmanship was for nothing as it seems to be following me.
yup it is a shame. my 555€ cruise sounds like a cheap toys.
Also the power button doesn't look that strong.
dara
Here as well....
Loose here as well, not THAT bad, yet loose. Does not make you feel very confident about its quality, does it?
.......
Actually my problem is that the bloody volume button is loose but is very hard to budge up or down so I can never do it when I am using the phone.
The slider seems to be very stiff. I tried to move it backwards and forwards to loosen it up but didn't help at all.
Same for me... a boring noise. It's true, it's not acceptable for an expensive device like the TC !
yess
Same problem???????????????? any solution ?
Hi
Just bought a mate 7 and absolutely love it. One issue though. It rattles when shaken, as if something loose inside. Sound comes from the top ear speaker area. Any one else notice this??

I test it and I have that noise but it.s not loud, i must take the phone near the ear to hear it. I think it's normal.
Me too. Don't know what it is...
Good to know it's not just me. Must me normal then
Me too, but it is the first time I Have heard it...you really need to have your ear close..
Sounds like it comes from the upper part of the phone around the camera..
Don't think its the camera lens...sound more like a metal part moving about...I notice it when receiving or making calls. Bothered me a lot initially, but I'm over it..
Its the camera lens, it is fairly common and normal.
No need to worry, rattling occures cos of how the camera is built.
I have the same noise on my mate 7, i was worried at first but now i kinda dont care to be honest it works, and i have no problems for almost 3 months now.
I have the same thing, but its really really hard to hear... Even in a quiet room. Don't think it's a problem.
I only want the best, so give me what I want! BMW!!!

As long as you are not trying to use the phone as an maracas it is no problem.
( may have been talked about before but I don't remember it . . . )
I decided to load in the 500 songs that were sitting on my hard drive onto the phone.
I wanted to test out this new $30 Bluetooth headphone and I felt the pixel was stable enough not to have to redo loading all these songs over again.
I wanted to test out the sound quality of the pair of front speakers, seeing if it was much better and be up to snuff in quality sound coming out of the phone .
.
And the verdict is YES, the sound quality of the music coming out of the front-facing speakers is fine. Not great when you drive it at 100%. You'll notice very good sound at like ~ 80%.
Well that was when I was holding it in the air. Or I was just basically holding it up to my head, - you know - , trying to see if I could detect the lower one being louder.
.
I sit all the time at this cheap 'Ikea' desk, in the back of this place where I have my main development computer at....
I just rested the cell down on the top of this El Cheapo wooden surface . . . . and noticeably, just by having the phone resting facing up vertical on the computer desk and the sound got twice as loud and a little better.
.
For me, it was to a noticeable degree, having a chunk of the cheap wood right next to it.
Hmm, maybe that'll be a new product of some kind. . . A vertical kickstand for your wood desk. . . The sound coming out of the phone is nicer and louder.
.
hope this helps...
This works with most small speakers, they will use a flat surface (make it vibrate) which effectively turns the surface into a speaker itself
I wonder if a hollow timber/wood surface would produce better sound?
Something worth trying

Oh wow lol who would've thought
Hi,
my in call volume on my earpiece loudspeaker is very low. I thought it's broken and I actually opened the device today and replaced it with a new one. And after all that effort, the volume is the same! It's still sooo low.
I'm trying to increase the volume through the mixer_gains.xml, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what values to change.
I'm running RENOVATE ICE 15.0 btw.
Can someone tell me what values I need to change to increase it? Or had someone else the same issue and found a fix? It's really frustrating, especially after going through the effort to replace the earpiece loudspeaker with a brand new one.
Same issue
That's funny. I just bought my s8+ from a 3rd party about a week ago and one thing I've noticed is that I can't hear who I'm calling for ****. So much so that I decided to log in here and see if anybody else was experiencing the same issue.
So I guess we're in the same boat. Seems like there would be a way to make it sound like a cheap phone at least
Did either of you, try cleaning the speaker area with a needle? It worked for me.
It's just a piece of protective plastic, with very tiny holes. Which, is why it gets clogged so easily. It's also why you won't damage the speaker, as holes are way smaller than a needle.
Just run the needle across the top a bunch of times, until crud stops coming off. Just keep blowing off the crud (don't sweep off, or you might press it back into the holes)
For full service cleaning, use a dust buster/vacuum, while using the needle, to suction off the crud. As well as possibly getting crap farther in the holes. You can also try cleaning the individual holes with the needle point, if needed
I've got this exact issue and tried cleaning the holes. Nothing seems to work and I might need to factory the phone or put on a custom ROM.
My camera is really rattly and doesnt secure in the closed position!
Its ****ing disgusting of a sound when I put in down on a table, is this normal?
Really kills ALL fun I can have with this device
Mine seems pretty OK. No rattling when I control the camera.
There might be some quality control issues. I've seen a few mention rattling but most say theirs is fine. So with that in mind it sounds like you risk having to RMA the device when you get it.
My camera was rattling too if I did not use the Quick Control Button to retreat the camera regularily because the camera is hitting the case even when shaking it.
I fixed it by placing a strip of duct tape under the camera and now it is silent.
The same problem with my flipcam.
Mine works fine.

Duct tape on a phone? 2019.?
No thanks
My camera is firm and doesnt rattle, it does make some noise when the camera moves but thats to be expected I think.
Well, it seems as if it's going to be a crap shoot whether you get one that rattles or not? Too risky unless we get way more reviews saying that it doesn't rattle.

Difficult to say with such a small sample size.
Could be 1%, 5%, 20%, 50% or 90% with issues. The quality control might get better or the mechanism might just have that bad yields. So right now we have to assume it's either a small number of devices or first batch problems. I find it hard to believe they'd bring a device to market with glaring issues. You never know though.

Yes and it isn't comparable.
This is a quality control issue from the factory. I haven't heard anyone say it started rattling later (nor does it seem there would be time to start breaking the device through regular use unless it's sensitive and starts rattling from dust and debris).
The Fold worked fine at the factory and testing in a controlled environment did not reveal the fragility of the design. Otherwise we may as well bring up Note 7 too. That's also a design flaw.
Since not all models rattle it isn't necessarily a design flaw but one of quality and yields. Of course Asus is welcome to make a statement on what causes the issue.
Mine also rattle when put down on table and same with just tapping the screen. Otherwise it is good. Weird that no review mentioned this, not even tech tablets. If the phone didn't cost 570 euro, but 250 euro I would not mind, but I'm going to return it, it is unacceptable for the price.
Mine doesn't rattle when closed, but also doesn't open fully. It sits at a slight angle when open, so I have to press "volume up" for a second to straighten it. As far as I can see there's no calibration tool for camera angle. This might help solve both problems.
Mine rattle to
the camera opens a little whenever I was fast walking with the phone in my pocket or when I wear lose pants but I fixed it by adding 2 strips of tape behind the camera :/
I found out that the rattle is coming from the hinge at the side where the volume buttons are
picked it up from table https://youtu.be/QcbjNwhLVIE ...
EDIT:
To clarify - this is how it always is, but it happens - lets say once a day - camera just get _more_ loose by itself. I will create another video how it is all the time (it is still pretty bad in quiet environment) - but it will be harder to catch with one hand holding camera phone.

Can other users of this phone confirm if it is a faulty unit or it is "normal" behaviour? Camera module seems to be wonky and loose, not firmly closed/locked. No reviewers mention this problem.
Mine moves a little bit too.
And 2 strips of tape help. I'm fine with it.
