Anyone willing to donate Skyfire Beta to be tested on Raphael? - General Topics

I've been waiting for the SkyFire Beta since like early April, and tomorrow I'm getting my AT&T Raphael... If anyone has an extra beta release or doesn't like it that much, I'd greatly appreciate the donation. Thanks.

Skyfire is designed to work on QVGA devices only. Only resolutions as high as 320x320. It will not work on a full VGA phone.

Well, considering other members have posted about using it on their diamond, don't tell me it won't work. They did say the zoom function sucked because it was designed for a QVGA device, but don't say it won't work at all.

..............

I would. But I just love Skyfire too much :]
It's not all that great though. The only cool thing about it is the GUI and the flash support. Otherwise it's a pain in the ass to scroll. I'd rather scroll web pages with Opera. I only use Skyfire for Flash ;]

Skyfire VGA dosen't seem to be any different on my Fuze

I installed Skyfire on my Att Fuze and noticed that the browser was very pixelated.
I checked and found a VGA beta version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2895457&postcount=4
However, this version is also pixelated, it still seems to assume I have the screen my old Att Tilt had.
Is there any version of Skyfire that can use my full screen resolution?
The aforementioned reason, and the general GUI are the main reasons I hate Skyfire.
Me too! It has lots of potential, but at the moment in my opinion it's just not suitable for vga devices...
can't enjoy porn sites with skyfire
well this thread defintiely answered my question as well.
i hate how they hype this browser with vga capabilities when it DOESNT. it merely runs on VGA phones, that doesnt mean it supports that resolution.
so much wasted potential.. hope they get their act together soon

WVGA resolution unsupporterd

So far on WM6.5 there is no solution for emulating VGA resolution. Of course we used to use WVGAFix from Cotulla to get this done so we could run programs that needed VGA res to run. But his fix doesn't work on 6.5 There is one app that I like so much I have been going back to wm6.1 for it. That is Orions: Legend of Wizards. I know a lot of members here play this game, the ones that have discovered it anyway. It's a lot like Magic the Gathering.
So, I'm caught in this catch 22. I would like to use the latest cooked Roms for my X1 but I would also like to continue to play this awesome game. WM6.1 is about to be left to die in it's old age. I decided to ask about a WVGA supporting re-release from the developer. Their reply sounds like a no-go and I'd like to share the exchange with you...
Hello,
I would like to say that I really like Orions. It is an excellent
game and is just my type. I can no longer play it though because my
new device has a WVGA resolution 800x480. Do you plan to release a
new version of Orions that will run on a WVGA resolution ppc? This
will be important for your company as soon enough all new PPC devices
will be WVGA. In fact, as I understand it wm6.5 can only run at WVGA
resolution.
Thank you for your time,
Me

Hello You,
thanks for your feedback, there are will be no support for resolution
800x480 and wm6.5, but if you are interested we've recently ported Orions
to iPhone/iPod Touch.
In the near future we are going to make our games for iPhone/iPod Touch
platform only.
Kind regards,

This makes me sad. This app is my favorite but the experience has been getting worse for a while. It was great on my Kaiser at VGA but when I upgraded to an Xperia I had to use WVGAFIX which left me effectively with less physical real estate to play on than the Kaiser. Now if I upgrade to 6.5 I can't run the game at all. And the dev is leaving us out to dry.

Fennec (Mozilla's offering)

Hi Guys..
I have installed Fennec.. Mozilla's offering into the Win Mo browser market...
has anyone else tried it out at all? at first glance it seems quite good but unsure what pitfalls there are to using this.
Ta
i tried it, but its not finished yet. nearly nothing works and its very slow.
i'm waiting for it too, but mozilla is making verly little progress on that.
you should really try opera 10 beta 3, its the best browser for the hd2
at this time, i think!
No! Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 is the best browser! It's soooooo fast! Much faster than Opera Mobile (no matter what version)!
not tried a nightly of fennec for a while, been watching the progress of the maemo version though.
Maemeingast everyone is entitled to their opinion, personally I think mini is a pile of java poo

LOL
And why is that?
(Just interested in why some people don't like Opera Mini eventhough it's so fast and even has the same interface as Opera Mobile.)
had a look at the latest 1.1a1 nightlies, (both 1.9.2 and 1.9.3)
and it's starting pretty fast (after the first time it takes ages during setup).
Pretty responsive now with moving around etc now which i a huge improvement, but still can't get it to load a website!
its also not cleaning up properly i dont think.. for example it wont restart unless you soft reset

I'm not really struck on opera mobile 10, don't like java very much, and dislike intermediate server rendering of what I'm looking at
at least teh opera mobile has an option to turn "turbo" off
fwiw I love opera desktop. 10.50 is ace

What do you guys think about Dolphin browser?
I personally didn't like Opera on my Android. I found most webpages didn't load properly and it was difficult to enter forms etc.
However, it did run quite a bit faster than other browsers.
I have since switched to Dolphin, though a tad slower than Opera, it seems to be quite reliable at loading webpages properly. It also has a ton of cool features.
I've not tried Skyfire.
Cheers
Guys, he wasn't talking about Opera Mini... He was talking about Opera Mobile which is a more fuller browser for our phones.
Op, you said it was just announced. Do you have a link to the article about the announcement?
Oh my bad, didn't know there was a difference
http://www.androidcentral.com/opear-mobile-available-android-you-cant-have-it-yet
It wasn't just announced. Opera announced it quite some time back. However, currently it is available on to OEMs. They haven't made it public yet due to unknown complications.
I'm testing dolphin browser right now,not bad,but can't play flash either, anybody knows a browser that can play flash?
opera mobile, lol. skyfire can do some flash video, but not real flash

How is your opera mobile performance?

Opera mobile on the desire z is rapid, the panning is so quick and renders as it zooms for quick reading. The performance isn't as good on my friends evo 3d and I'm concerned I might not take much of a leap forward in browser experience with the note if it suffers like the evo 3d.
The browsing experience on Ics isn't that great yet and poor for opera mobile compared to GB, so I'm also looking for a phone that will perform well with ICS (I presume the note will)
Does anyone have any footage or general comparison conclusions between the different browsers on the note?
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using xda premium
I own a note. I have tried every browser I know of, and opera mobile is still my day to day driver. Its smoother than anything else when loading big sites like engadget (not the mobile version) and I really enjoy the way it renders fonts.
I'm terribly sorry to hijack the thread, but do you find as fast when enabling Opera Turbo on 3G?
I am no expert on this, and do little browsing on my phone, but when I do, OM seems the best of all. I especially like that reflow of text to the screen. That seems to work regardless of what else may be on the screen, which is great (meaning I do not have to think).
Regarding performance, it certainly works fast enough for me, but I am not a speed junkie.
I too find OM to be the best for my needs. Primarily the pinch to zoom with auto text reflow is crucial to me and none of the others seems to have this feature. Some websites do not allow pinch to zoom whereas most do.
One issue I have with OM is when I am on a website is that it closes every time I switch from portrait to landscape. Every time!
When I launch OM again, it goes back to the webiste I was trying to view in landscape.
Is anyone else haveing this experience and is there a way to fix it?
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but that is not the fox.

I hate opera and dolphin and firefox and stock. I can't wait for the ICS update and use android stock or chrome.
I used to use Miren Browser but can't find it anymore in the market.
I am happy using 2 of the browsers
1. SimBrowse ( My own Developed one)
2. Firefox
They keep me alive for most of the time, and I am happy using them
