Hey guys,
Sorry for the extreme noobness of this post, but I am completely lost here. It appears that ROMeOS 4.1 is the ROM to get. But then I read that you need to install HardSPL first, then you need to pick the right radio and install that, but you need to be sure that it is the right radio for you, etc. None of this makes any sense at all to someone who has never done this before. Will I lose all the apps I've installed when I do this? If so, what is the best/easiest way to back them up so I can reinstall them after the ROM update? I also read that you need to install a keyboard fix, a screen freeze fix, and extra apps that came originally on the device need to be downloaded and installed.
I guess what I'm asking is, how do I make this $650 piece of junk that HTC won't support (they refuse to give me ROMs for it since I bought it through Amazon) into a device that is worth using with some simple step-by-step instructions? The speed and unreliability of it in its stock form for this price is completely inexcusable. I am very ready to make some donations as well.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you so much Kareem! That pretty much answered all my questions. Maybe I'm blind, but I did not see a link to that particular wiki in the stickied thread about tutorials. I think there should be a sticky in this forum with a title: HELP! I'm a noob and I need to flash my ROMS! With that link included.
Thanks again, you rock!
Oh, and I do have one last question, what radio has had the most reliability with the ROMeOS 4.1?
If you are looking for a section dedicated to n00bs, check out GWENI, linked in my signature. It was written for n00bs, by a self-proclaimed n00b.

According to Hang Tuah's (the creator of ROMeOS) post in the dedicated thread here: "I personally tried NEON 1.58.25.17, KAIS 1.65.24.36 & KAIS 1.71.09.01".
Hi, the trickiest part of the bussiness is to do the HardSPL, which will allow you to flash any ROM or radio.
Then, if you do not want to complicate your life too much, flash one of the HTC WM 6.1 official ROMs.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs
Or pick a cooked ROM that has all included (i.e. not Lite ROMs), operating system, Office, Windows Live, and a radio firmware.
hardSPL install is not tricky but its the MOST IMPORTANT thing you need to do. just follow the directions carefully and you will have no issues. Radios are personal preference BUT newer WM6.1 roms need the newer 1.65.xx.xx radios but again there is a whole thread explaining this also
enjoy your toy!
wow someone who posted with concern before bricking the device..and he did his homework as well he could before hand CHEERS!! As you'll quickly learn most noobs flash first, brick, then want the xda community to fix it without them having to do anything(like read). So I applaud you.
Heh. Thanks liquidfork. I'm pretty big into Linux and open source, so I know to read as much as I can find first and then attempt.
So, I did successfully flash ROMeOS 4.1 on my device after putting HardSPL 3.56 on it and the newest radio (forget the version offhand). It's blazing fast now. But, a small problem: When I try to restore my sprite backup, the phone will start up with the "bios" screen, but it just sits there and never boots. Now, Sprite backup complains that it needs a .sbu file that I can get from their website. I see nothing on their website about .sbu files. Is there any way to restore my stuff, or am I hosed? I do miss the HTC today screen and some of the utilities I had. I'd hate to have to roll back to an "official" ROM for this.
Thanks again for your help guys, this community is great.
Anyone? I would like to avoid reinstalling everything if at all possible. Thanks.

You cannot restore Sprite Backups from ROM to ROM. It is designed to restore your files and settings when doing a hard reset of reflashing the same ROM.
Sprite Backup does have a ROM Upgrade feature, but I've yet to see it work.
Through experimentation, I figured as much. That's too bad. I've come to find that while the ROMeOS is quite a bit faster than the WM6 that came on the device, it is very spartan. I've gotten used to the little gadgets in the HTC roms, particularly their today screen, some of the settings, and some of the utilities. I think I'm going to flash with a shipped WM6.1 from HTC and see how it works, I will try doing a Sprite backup restore on that as well, but I'm not holding my breath that it will work. Is there a huge difference in speed between the shipped HTC ROM and a cooked ROM? Better yet, is there a cooked ROM that gives most or all of the HTC functionality but is faster?

The perfect ROM is like the perfect beer. Everyone has their own opinions and taste.
However... I will say this. It is better to find a fast rom and then search these forums for the appropriate cabs for those applications you can't do without.
Not only will you only have the ops you want, but I have all those cabs on a secure digital card... then you use sashimi to load them when you perform a flash...
Because once you have done a flash... you will be doing more...
As they say on the TV about golf weenies... these guys are good... and there is always a new ROM that looks marvy.

True, I can see that now. I think the main thing I'm missing that I can't live without is being able to click in the upper right on the today screen and stop running processes from there. Especially since with ROMeOS 4.1, going into the task manager has locked up my phone twice now. If I can figure out how to get that functionality back, I think I can live with the rest. Is that functionality in the HTC home CAB that is in the extended cabs for ROMeOS? I'll probably install the CAB anyhow just to see.
Download and install this cab I've attached.
Heres a link to AllTheWays 4Shaered pages he's one of the mods on here. It has all the applications you're looking for.

Great looking forum here and great to see all the people offering so much support. Had my Wizard for about a year and now its out of warranty I thought i'd have a play . Theres obviously a few tutorials to follow before flashing a ROM, but i was just going to say, I regularly get Connection Error while trying to flash other ROM's onto this phone. I tried to flash Schaps WM6 ROM to it, but it said connection error. However I have sucessfully flashed the T-mobile 2.26 ROM twice, therefore I am not sure if its the phone or the rom or what. Do you reckon if i follow those tutorials it will sort the connection error issue, or is that a problem with my PC. I have a few WM6 on my PC, crossbow, helmi, etc etc, so i was wondering which you recommend etc. Thanks very much, hopefully ill be able to input something when i learn a bit more
follow the tutorials,
be sure you are cid /sim unlock
only flash roms found in the wizard forum, not on other devices forum, roms are device specific
happy flashing

Schaps rom is for HERMES
If you want to brick your PDA, then be bold and try roms designed for other devices, but you will certainly BRICK IT
If you have a HTC Wizard then, just like the man before me said, do the following :
Find out if your device is a G3 or a G4
If it's a G3 CID Unlock it (not same as SIM Unlock !!!). If it's a G4, then check the G4 Forum to see what you can do.
Choose a rom that you like most but make sure that it's designed for WIZARD, so i suggest only search in the Wizard forum.
check here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435
Ah right, thanks for that guys, im very glad i didnt flash it with a other ROM now. I certainly don't want to brick it, although it is insured for a while so i could happen to drop it haha
Are there any ROMs you can recommend to me . I am always up for trying them
ok, i think ive CID Unlocked my phone now. Dropped it to Button 1.05 did the lokiwiz bat then dropped it again to bring my SPL down. Ive just put on the t-mobile 2.21 ROM, now am I ready to upgrade to WM6? or do i need to put 2.26 on? Cheers

That is a ROM Kitchen that has pretty much every option you could want in it! Very stable base, and many many options. and if you have any questions, they have probably already been answered in that thread, and if not, "theloon"(the creator) will answer them for ya. Right now its one of the best IMO, and especially for what you are looking for.

hi
As u have still not flashed any wm6 roms as yet, I wud rather suggest first flash and install a couple of cooked roms from others, just to have the feel of them and get used to the newer features added in them. Only when u get urself comfortable with them and understand their working, and above all r successful in flashing roms, inly then start thinking about cooking ur own rom.
There r a couple of very fantastic build Roms by excellent cookers here in this Forum u can start off with e.g
faria's "The real thing Rom",
Mfraaz " Xm6r3"
it's right " Tnt 5 or his Latest Professional+HTC Home"
Xplorer1.1 etc etc
They r all cooked for Wizards specifically.Just search the forum or hit the 'SEARCH' button above,
Welcome to the Flashing lunatics Forum
Happy Flashing
Just put on WM6 TNT1437 and am really impressed. Didnt take long to flash and didnt have any problems with it hanging Runs like a beast, dead quick and I am really impressed with this whole cube thing it seems a bit of useless fun hehe . although there is like a red, yellow and green line at the top of the screen. is that normal?
Okay, I feel a fool Thats the battery meter haha This is great. Its dead fast and runs a lot smoother. I think i am going to like this whole cooking your own Windows thing
Thanks

Glade to hear, that u have upgraded and enjoying it
it's a whole new experience.
If u don't feel comfortable with TouchFLO and the cube, than I'll suggest u flash the other equally excellent Professional + HTC Home Rom,u'll even like it much better.
If u dont want multicolor battery bar(comes by default) at the top,u can disable by open WinXplore then startup folder and remove battery level.lnk (you can use file explorer on the folder windows/startup)

I need help choosing a ROM, this is my first time. Memory doesn't matter, I have SD card. Hoping for some extra programs, good wifi, and stable, I don't want it to freeze too often. Battery life doesn't matter as long as it lasts a FULL day. Let me what you think is best, so far I like the wizard titanium, but people tell me its too old. What do you think? ALSO, IT HAS TO BE WM6! THNAKS!!!

If I had to recommend a fast stable rom with some nice extras, I would have to say TNT.1437 is one of the best. It has plenty of nice little extras and is one of the most complete and stable rom's I have used. I have been using it for the last 4 months and only switched Roms to test new releases and then always to back to the 1437 build. I personally like the TouchFlo version.

Very true, the best ever Rom I have tried so far and specially the 10mb ppool
I spent a fair bit of time re-working TNT 1437 to suit my own needs and preferences. I have relatively easily moved from TNT 1437 to 1921 and recently to 1933; each time having to make some modifications to it's right Base ROM. However since he has kept the ROMs reasonably consistent between versions my time spent modifying has decreased somewhat.
My choice of ROMs would be it's right's 1933 Base and my own customisations. Most ROMs are likely to have something you don't like or don't want and I think it is now so easily to learn how to cook your own the best option is to build your own using one of the bases available. That way it will be the 'best ROM' for you.
For me, I will be sticking with it's right 1933 base for the time being as I have had very few issues with it, plus he has worked hard integrating the original 5.2.318 drivers into it, oh and it's (currently) the latest
My 2 cents..
Andy
I use XM6r3, it has given me no problems at all. I have tried many other roms and felt this was the best for my needs. Are there faster roms? I did like tnt, I tried a couple different builds (including touchflo which I don't care for) and after configuring and installing all my normal things, XM6r3 seemed to run faster. Available memory was almost =. I do like some of the bug fixes TNT has.
You think your question should be easy to answer, but really your asking what is the best car manufacturer, who has the best tasting beer. In time you will find one you like. I initially flashed my brains out with everything I could get my usb cable on, but now, I just want something that gets it done.

What kind of modifications did you make to the TNT.1437 Rom? I have been using it for some time and love it but for whatever reason I can't seem to get any of the many available kitchens to work on my computer whether it be on my Vista partition or my XP partition. Neither work.
Ok, I want to thank everyone for all your help. Also, charile_mx, if you didn't have any advice for me, you shoudn't have posted anything at all, there was no reason for you to post the stupid comment. Does it open apps quick, and can I open 2 or 3 apps at onve without it freezing?

The best thing that you can do for yourself is simply read up on everything involved with your wizard first. Is it unlocked? Is it G3 or G4? Does it have an IPL and SPL higher then 2.XX ? Please don't answer these questions to me. I am simply giving you some things to follow up on in your research, so that you can avoid ending up with a Brick.
Personally I have been using my own cooked Cross bred version, although I really like the look of It's Right 1933. I may have to cross breed something there.
Good Luck

Nothing too major. I modified a few .RGU files to remove some settings I don't like (Wireless on the Today screen is one I can think of), replaced the various TNT skin customisations with the default ones, replaced the Calc1 with the original Calculator, removed the themes and added my own, customised my own 'Office Mobile' folder, added battery status with my own settings, removed some unused applications and replaced them with some of my own. I replaced some of the included packages with the same ones I have that I have had continued sucess with - i.e. the various media related packages that all have reliance on certain codecs and system files that everyone seems to have issues with (Audio Manager, Voice Recorder, Streaming Media, Camera & MMS). I also included my Personal Stuff and locale settings in a custom .RGU file as well as changed the Autorun stuff to launch my own extended ROM. Oh and I have my own custom splash screens (which it took me a while to get installed and it really pi$$ed me off when I used to install a new ROM and these got overwritten..... )
Basically when I flash my ROM (or hard reset) there are minimal changes that I need to make and no software to manually install to get it back the way I like it (my VoIP settings, a Certificate and TT get installed from my extended ROM).
I am currently using the 'HyperCore' kitchen but have used others with similar results. Using the HyperCore you must follow the instructions since it is easy to miss a step and end up with a partially 'dead' Wizard.

Starting this thread was a bad idea. Sorry I didn't saw it yesterday
Reasons :
[*]This has been posted too many times before.
[*]The "Best ROM" for you is the one YOU like most. You'll have to try a few on your own to figure out which one works best for you.
[*]Everybody will give you different answers so you won't get much out of it.
[*]ROMs don't act the same on all devices. One ROM that works perfect on my device it might not work the same on yours or any other one here. You don't trust me ? Do a benchmark on your PDA..then ask someone else to do a benchmark on his PDA with same ROM and you'll see differences.
In case that didn't convinced you, here's a small list of similar threads :

Flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679. You'll then be CID unlocked and have the ability to flash another ROM. If you have any issues, start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361039 This is the SIM unlocker that everyone has used. I have not used it because mine could be unlocked via AT&T.
Then read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356895, the wiki and the stickies before flashing. Remember, you can brick your phone if you are not sure of what you are doing. Take a day or two to read as much as possible. That being said, the chefs have made it super easy.
As for ROMs, they truly are opinion. Everyone has their own needs. I like clean ROMs and don't use things like cubes. Currently using Q-Mobile 1.2. Just flashed from Dutty's V2 medium. Loved them both. Also really liked Alex's and Custel's. Even tried Jack's for a while and liked it. The differences are often minute and sometimes even just perception about speed and performance. Someone recently did a performance review of a bunch of ROMs - there's an excel file around here somewhere. I have spent a couple of months trying to find my ideal and may never (as fast as great new ROMs come out here.) It's an addiction. Go ahead - take your first hit.
Again thanks for your answers.
I get the fact that I need to CID and Sim unlock the phone 1st. What I'm not quite getting are the different ROM's. I must assume the phone has one for its out-of-box operation. So when I flash a new rom does it overwrite the old one or does the old need to be unloaded (saved somewhere??). Does the WM6 remain untouched? How about the other features of the phone like GPS, WiFi, MP3, 3G, GPRS, etc-etc? Are they part of the rom or hardware withing the circuitry
After all the reading (2 weeks now) these items remain unclear to me. Thanks for not flaming at me, but if in the midst an answer is unveiled....I have thick skin
I feel like I'm getting somewhere and this thread will help others too.

Well, flashing a ROM means to replace the default operating system with a modified one, so, the answer is yes to your question whether or not WM6 is touched. No matter what ROM you flash, you will have GPS, WiFi, MP3, 3G, GPRS, etc-etc. Think of it this way: You will still have your CD-ROM drive, your ethernet card, etc. if you reinstall Windows or upgrade to another version.
Think of a ROM as a full hard drive image. On your laptop you have Windows XP, Office and a bunch of other programs. But you like your buddy's setup better. He tweaked his registry and has chosen free programs that you like better, etc. So you are using his full hard drive image and overwriting yours. You'll be using his copy of Windows XP, but it will be legal because you have a key that came with your machine.
The ROMs here overwrite everything. They include everything basic you need to run your PPC and have tweaked the settings and registry keys to get the most out of all of your equipment. The differences are in those tweaks and then the programs they add on. Check out Alex's new wiki. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Alex's ROMs He gives a great idea of the range of ROM options...everything from the absolute basics (all hardware works and comes with the supporting software but you get to add everything else you want, including Office - so this basically equates to just a windows install for your laptop) all the way to all the possible "bells and whistles" including .pdf readers, games, etc. etc. All of the programs that are add-ons to the ROMs are freeware, because XDA doesn't allow warez. As such, you may find a piece of paid software that you like better than something that is used a lot here (for example, I've purchased Opera Mobile), but you'll learn which are the best free options via the ROMs.
The beauty of ROM flashing is it's fast. Takes about ten minutes to flash a new ROM (plus time to install all your add-on programs). If you don't like the one you tried this week (or in some cases day), try a new one next week (or tomorrow). Just make sure you use the radio that is suggested with most ROMs (some include the radio, some allow you to install the radio separately - this will be documented in the post/wiki). Thus you can figure out which optional programs you like the best and use the appropriate ROM. Learning to flash is relatively easy. Figuring out which of the ROMs and other programs you like best - that takes time and it is truly individual opinion.
Edit: BTW - you do not HAVE to SIM unlock your phone before messing with ROMs. I didn't when I started because I'm using on AT&T anyway and wasn't that worried about it. FYI.
With all the reading I've been doing here I never came accross the thread you referred me to....PRICELESS (THX)

Also I now have the impression that the only reason he's made ATT vs HTC Roms has noting to do with the labeling on the phone (Mine's ATT) but only to do with using the ATT .09 radio, otherwise I can use any of the HTC roms and pick a radio that works for my T-mobile service. If I'm wrong please say so.
Also, still wondering whether I can get away with NT2000(sp4) as an OS on my pc.
im fairly certain that you will have no issue using win2k, as its the same kernal as winXP(just not as pretty), which is what most people use to do their flashing. as long as you are able to install activesync and its not vista you should be good to go.
His wiki is pretty new - perhaps that's why you haven't seen it yet. Again, there will be 20 people on here that will swear the ROM they use is the best. You could go equally well starting with Dutty's work (or Q-Mobile or whichever). However, Alex's work is topnotch and as good a place to start as any of the top cooks.
Without knowing precisely, I believe he made the AT&T versions because he's in the U.S. and probably uses AT&T himself. His AT&T versions use the standard AT&T radio and come preconfigured with all the standard AT&T Medianet settings. I've flashed both versions and they work great (I'm on AT&T). But, yes, in your case I would use the standard HTC ROMs.
Good luck.
P.S. As for your PC OS, not really sure. Too much of a newbie for that one myself. Have only heard about specific problems with Vista, but it seems they've made a fix for that. My guess is that you're fine (I know it's the same kernel as XP), but if you're concerned try Pof to find out about HardSPL.
thanks for all the input.....
Here's my new dilemma
It's a G4....so now I need to find nothing but G4 soft/hardSPL along with G4 Rom's and of Unlock the SIM of a G4
That's a Wizard variant. Check the Wizard forum. I think there's also a G4 specific area. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=343
will that work for the Kaiser/Tytn II/ tilt?
I was reading about the Wizard but nothing from there was actually working on my phone
I'm befuddled. Do you have a Tilt/Kaiser/TYTN II or a G4? Perhaps I didn't understand your previous post. No, the Tilt stuff will not work on the G4 and the G4 stuff will not work on the Tilt. Different units/different hardware/different CID unlock/different ROMs.
Do you have a Tilt/Kaiser/TYTN II or a G4?

they are the same. The Tilt/Kaiser/TYTN II comes in both the G3 and G4 versions.
So now I seek the G4 versions of the CID and SIM unlockers as well as a G4 safe ROM
Any help is greatly appreciated
Greetings. I'm so glad I've found this forum, I've been reading and learning a lot. I have a Tilt and love it. Stock WM 6.1 rom, "clean" no bloatware install. I'd like to upgrade it using Dutty's rom, my question is what is the main number one advantage to doing so?
I'm pretty happy using SPB Mobile 3, having switched from Point UI, SPB Mobile 2 before that, M2D before that, and the phone is reasonably fast. Are other roms noticeably faster? That would be my main reason for changing roms. Sorry if this is a noob question but I have been reading a lot and only find a few references to speed in new roms. Thanks for any help.
The beauty of this community is the diversity of customizations which includes all the cooked roms available to us.
Windows mobile (in my view) would be no where without all the hacks/tweaks/customizations that this forum brings to us.
Now you ask the benefit to flashing custom roms?
Basicly it allows you to transform your device/phone to how you want it to the tee! Each rom has its pros and cons. I personally use Abusalza's roms as they are really snappy and have many useful apps included.
Duttys roms are great as well. I want to say one of dutty's roms is the best i've ever put on my device but he hasn't made a rom recently for the kaiser so its kind of outdated and i need to have the latest and best running on my device )
Its not that hard to flash a rom and check it out for a couple hours to see if you like it or not so go ahead and expirement with different roms!
Also reading is key! i'm pretty confident in saying any trouble you run into has already stumped someone else before and there is a solution. As you search and read to solve your own problems it will expand you knowledge which enables you to help someone else on this community making you a valueable member!
Just make sure you check out this thread and when bored, read through the wiki.
It's just fun! I am a flash junkie ...thats why I flash all the time!
Thanks!
Thanks so much for your answers. The fun part has grabbed me as well, I really want to try it but have to go through the unlock business first I guess.
Dutty's last rom was from over a year ago, you may want to look into something newer, ROM's have changed a bit since then.
Yes, a new rom will significantly improve your phone's speed, functionality and if you install a newer radio as well will even improve your phone's battery life, reception, media playback and your camera's functionality.
Read this guide before installing your first rom as you'll need to install a hardspl before you do a rom install...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
My personal recommendation for you is to install this rom (Abusalza's PDACorner X4)...
AT&T Tilt Rom - http://www.ponack.net/abusalza/Ultimate-X.V4.Lite-S.2G.rar
Upgrade to a newer radio and install SPB Mobile Shell 3 and iGO(you can get it from torrents) after you install the rom.
It's the perfect combination.
I'm sure others will recommend a few additional programs to install on top of that as well.
Thanks, I've been thinking about the WM 6.5 roms....
Hey Guys
Hey Guys,
Closing thread in an effort to keep threads clean and uncluttered.
Rom flashing is all personal preference which you will discover once you begin flashing roms to find the perfect one for you. a new thread is not needed on this subject.
Peace and take care,
Joshua
I don't have the knowledge of what I need to do to my phone before I start all this
I just got a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 and it has WM 6.1. Do I need to immediately upgrade to 6.5 or can it just be 6.1 till WM7 comes out.
What do I need to do with my ROM....is it necessary to FLASH my phone(whatever that means) I don't wanna mess up my phone and void my warranty.
I don't know what Manila it has because for some reason when I try to go to Software Info in Device Info...there is no Software tab(weird right?)
Do I need to go ahead and dwload the latest Manila? What is the latest?
I want to get the most out of this phone and do all the cool tweaking and stuff.
I also want to beable to do the upgrades on the ppcmods website
They weren't working for me for some reason(can't tell what version of Manila I have)
anything else I need to do to be on the same page as all of you let me know. I don't want to mess up my phone or break it so this is why I'm asking.
thanks in advance

Whether or not to upgrade to 6.5 is entirely up to you. Some ppl like myself have tried 6.5 and have gone back to 6.1 because of performance issues. Give it a try and see for yourself.
If you've been following the news related to Windows Phone 7 Series, you'll realize that the Touch Pro2 doesn't meet the minimum requirements. In fact, there are some leaks that say even the HD2 (with its superior specs) might not get upgrade. There's about zero change M$ or HTC will release an official WP7S ROM for our Touch Pro2s. We can only put our faith in XDA chefs.

Again, whether or not you flash to another ROM is up to you. If you flash to an official ROM, then you won't void your warranty. If you choose to flash to custom cooked ROMs, then you'll need HSPL which will void your warranty. But you can undo it. Please read the stickies in the ROM section for further info.

Go to the Settings tab in TouchFlo3D. Scroll down and you should be able to see your Manila version in the "About" section. Otherwise you'll have to look in your registry at this key: "HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Version"
The latest is 2.5 which runs considerably slower than 2.1 on our devices. And you can't just install different versions of Manila. They have to be cooked into the ROM.

what are some of the Official Roms that are pretty cool? I think I want to go the official route...is Max Manila official?
Also..I did read a few stickies....but how long does "flashing" take. I get calls throughout the day so I can't just not have a phone for a few hours. If I mess up how can I backtrack to fix it?
I just wish there was someone I knew that knows how to do all this stuff and let him do it but I will try this myself...probably wait till this weekend that I way I have some stuff planned out
Also...I like 6.1 and I think I'm just gonna stick with that
so I guess I need to flash my rom to get the right version of manila
what are some of of the "official" roms out there?
Right now, the only official ROM from Sprint is the one that shipped on the phone. IMHO I would not recommend flashing a VZN ROM to a Sprint phone.
The only other option for other ROM's are the cooked ones. A WORD(s) OF ADVICE -- if you decide to flash to a cooked ROM -- READ, READ, READ, READ, READ and then READ, READ, READ some more. For example, if you read you will find out that flashing a GSM ROM on a CDMA phone can have very undesired affects (and if you read, you will know that you should never do this) -- DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST. I'm saying that it's not cool to flash to a custom ROM, I'm only saying that you need to understand a little before you do it.
Have fun if you decide to flash to a cooked ROM and DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS IN THIS FORUM IF YOU ARE UNSURE.

is there no custom cdma roms?
I guess I have alot of reading to do because I want to make sure I don't mess my phone up..lol
not afraid to ask questions....just don't know the right questions...haha
I seem to be clueless on the phone stuff even though I'm a whiz at the computer
to tell you the truth...i like the way it is right now...i just want to beable to change the slidebar, background, clock, take the curtains off the top and bottom of the today screen and add lots and lots of cool aps
but to do that I need manila 2.5 and right now i think i have 2.1
If there was a way to get this without having to flash that would be great but I don't think there is a way to.
It would be nice to beable to have some of my fav aps on the today page but it's not a big deal...i can just hit Start and it takes me to a good enough page
Here are some helpful links:
Hard SPL : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578660
Hard SPL allows you to unlock your phone for flashing custom ROMs. This does not unlock your radio (which is something you probably wont mess with yet, link below).
SIM Radio unlock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578642
Custom ROMs sorted by most popular: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=98&daysprune=30&order=desc&sort=views
You can use any of these, be careful downloading the ones on XDA as they are mainly GSM roms and can brick your device. Read each ROM page carefully to find one that is right for you. I currently use MightyRom and it works great for my needs. Very stable and responsive.
Flashing the phone generally wont take long, my first time it was probably around 25-30 minutes at most. Also, i'm not sure how its done on sprint but I had to call vzw and get a unique activation code, until then I could not make calls (but I could receive them still). Take a look at this video for some tips for flashing your phone:

Also, there are two different versions. tf3d is one and the other is sense UI. More info here:

Most of the cool apps can be installed on either version, just depends on exactly what you are talking about.

right now all I need to know is the approximate time it takes to flash it....as in
how long will I not beable to get calls...that way I can pick the best time to do the flash
also...what all do I NEED to save on my phone....I have most stuff(apps, music, pictures) on my miniSD card

What is the least buggy ROM?
I was looking at Max Manila(if that's a rom) and it was pretty cool
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/4017/ultimate6.jpg
mightyrom is pretty cool too but I wish that some of the apps could be on the today screen
http://i33.tinypic.com/n48cco.png
It seems like you have most of the stuff you would NEED already backed up. Maybe text messages are the only other thing I can think of.
It usually takes me less than 20 minutes to completely flash my ROM and get it ready (provisioning, favorite apps, etc). My first try was around 30 minutes, with about 15 minutes of actual phone downtime. At MOST plan for about 30 minutes of phone downtime...and depending on how your carrier does it you may have to wait on hold for outgoing calls to work again (call from a landline/different phone and get custom activation code).
Max manila is going to be less stable and more buggy by nature. Our phones just don't have the best cpu for sense 2.5. Juicy r10 seems to be one of the favorite sense 2.5 roms, but has some issues with mms. Energy leo is another good 2.5 rom with max manila but also has some minor issues, read the respective threads to find out more info. MightyRom and Energy Pheonix are going to be your two most stable roms IMO, but they come w/ sense 2.1. Only sense 2.5 will have the today screen launch icons.

Just keep playing with your phone (while erring on the safe side) and continue learning. Keep searching the forums and reading when you have questions. There are a lot of great themes and apps out there, so don't think you are stuck using sense (although I still enjoy using it from time to time). At the very least you are on your way to really understanding how to make this phone YOUR phone.
Watch the youtube video I posted earlier in this thread, its a great visual way to learn how to flash your phone, and it is done in under 10 minutes.

Oooh, I'd like to help a little here. I'm also a Sprint user, so here's my cent:
This site is mainly comprised of users that have GSM devices (ATT&T, T-Mobile, and such.) So, I advise you to use this and PPCGeeks as well, since that's sort of a CDMA counter-part to this site. Some knowledge!
- You currently have TF3D 2.1 on the Stock ROM, but when most people compare and ask whether you have 2.5 or 2.1, they are referring to HTC SENSE 2.1 vs. SENSE 2.5. This is because all the other Touch Pro 2 variants have already had the 6.5 upgrade from their carrier, which comes with Sense 2.1. We are supposed to get ours by the end of first quarter of this year (Which leaves by the end of this month.), but Sprint still hasn't specified a date.
- Here's the thread you want to look at for most of your CDMA needs: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=98
- Here's the thread for unlocking your phone to flash custom ROMs: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=93252
-Unlocking your phone is not too hard and the way the peeps have made it, it's pretty much safe. In the second post of the thread in the above link, there is the relocker, if you wish to lock it for warranty purposes. Remember, always flash back to Stock ROM (If you're on a custom one.) THEN re-lock.
- Here's the thread you'll find the original STOCK ROM download, in case you want to flash back to stock after a custom ROM: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=91940
Also, from your last screen-shot of your home screen, you are using tab icons meant for QVGA devices, since they're so small (Of course, the messed up flip-clock, top cutain, and icons, are also a little messed up, haha.). HOPE I helped, and if I mentioned stuff you already knew, maybe someone else can benefit from the info.
Stick- you posted a very nice piece there.
I would also add, try reading up flashing from the ROM card. What I do is place the Stock Sprint ROM there so that I can always go back to stock when needed.
Sometimes some cooks suggest flashing to stock first then a custom ROM especially when moving from one cook's ROM to another ROM.
