noob question, sorry but this is my first ever flash and im confidant i can do it
basically i want to unlock my phone to work with other sim cards im on orange uk stock rom but i want to use other sim cards, even if its just to check ones i find around my house
i picked up instructions from here
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361039
in this it tells me i need to flash the phone with the radio again once i finished but ive checked threads and theres only htc roms and atnt roms and cooked ones
ihave rom version 1.81.61.2 wwe adn radio 1.27.14.32
What rom do you want? you can use a cooked rom just fine with your phone.... Or you could used the generic HTC rom.
Did you register for the HTC club? if your phone is HTC branded you can usually download roms right from there.
double posting you should be ashamed of yourself
Yeah, you really should be flammed... Cause I commented on the other post too...

This is because the 'unlocking' process is specific to a particular ROM i.e. install a ROM that can be unlocked, then replace the 'unlock-ROM' with the original ROM or one of your own.
Not all ROMs are available, so searching for a copy of your original ROM to re-install is beneficial if you wish to keep the original on your phone (warranty etc blah blah blah).
PS. There is nothing wrong with the 'unlock-ROM' if you wish to keep it on the phone.
i should ashamed but im not, since this post has slight differences to the one in geberal and besides i needed a fast answer and theres more people here

just follow the instructions to unlock the phone ( by flashing the patched radio) then once it is unlocked flash a different ROM. ( Dutty's or the new Throttle ROM, best one so far. Looks COOL!!! and runs great too.......lol ) Once you step away from the HTC ROMS the Kaiser is in a world of its own. So much better with a cooked ROM compared to a branded one. No contest....
yeah but i cant find my radio anywhere its 1.27.14.32 and now spl wont flash

just flash a newer radio after you unlock. Should work OK...... a lot of the cooked ROM's have preffered radios anyway.
The way I did it:- First flash HardSPL, then unlock phone using instructions, after complete decide which cooked ROM to flash and its corresponding preferred radio. The result: works like a charm, no problems....
see that the thing ive done my device just the wae i want but the sim unlocker needs my origional radio and i cant get it
and now my hard spl wont work after the dos bit does its business in loads up kaisercustom ruu or summit and this nees an activsync connection but the stepss on the first part of the hardspl thingy render the phone in bottloader and the activsync icon grey

Hi everyone,
I have a refurbished ATT TILT (my 4th TILT), and the warranty is over, so I would like to entertain the idea of flashing some cooked roms to my phone. There are so many posts about the ROMS and how to do it and I just have a few questions:
1. What is the best ROM to use on a locked ATT TILT? I have not unlocked my TILT and don't really have a need to, so what are my options for a good ROM to use (NON ATT).
2. What software is best to use to flash a ROM from Windows Vista? I've seen several tools available and would like to know what the different opinions are on which one to use.
3. Is there anything else I should know about flashing a cooked ROM on a locked ATT TILT? I'm new at this so any advice would be helpful.
Thanks
Best I can tell you is read these threads even if they don't pertain to you at the moment and read the stickies and the wiki listed at the top. tells you everything, from what is a good radio to flash to what rom, what apps, etc. all there for the taking!
Absorb! absorb like a sponge!

It's all about taste, check every link that has a ROM and look into the screenshots, all the ROMS on this section works on your tilt of course you have to install HardSpl first. Check also this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362987
#1 is use hard spl (as they said above)
#2 verify the radio you have is compatable with whatever ROM you choose.
i just installed dutty's v4 with radio 1.27.12.11 and the ROM is great. the different radio ver (i had 14.09 before i think) is much much better as well. I'm almost 2x better reception with the radio (or its all in my head LOL)
as a noob to this site myself i can understand you are overwhelmed, but take a day or so and READ all you can; including how to recover from a bad flash (read: hard button combo for boot loader) and some issues ppl have with certian rom's.
good luck!
Read the stickies...

I am new, recieved my Tilt 3 days ago and have flashed 2 roms already. It is really easy once you understand the basic steps.
1) Flash HardSPL (mine went to the solid white screen, it freaked me out but the sticky that has the fix works and is easy to do).
2)Choose your ROM, if you have AT&T, I suggest you look at one that has an AT&T version, it takes care of alot of the manual setup for you. (Alex's and Q-MObile have AT&T versions) I am using Q-Mobile 1.2 and am loving it.
3)Add any extras you want. So far I have added GoogleMaps, HTC Home, TotalCommander (registry editor).
I swear I have used the Search tool, but lots of topics have HSPL in their title, and I weren't able to find any FAQ topic talking about that.
Everybody here talks about SSPL, HSPL, how to use them and so on. The only think I understood is that to flash custom roms you need HSPL, and for official roms SSPL is "enough". Could anybody tell me something more and explain me why do we need this stuff to flash a rom and not just run a .exe on the device which could do everything automatically?
I also didn't understand what the Radio is. I thought a part of the rom which manages the GSM/3G antenna, but I think I am wrong.
Thank you in advance

okay
spl = Secondary Program Loader. Think of this in the same sense as bios on a pc. (it sets where your system boots from, intialises sub system process etc)
sspl = soft spl (this allows you to flash another spl or hardspl).
hardspl = hard spl .. basically it allows flashing of any rom. It protects you from bricking your device. If you have a bad flash it just forces the phone to load into bootloader, from where you can flash another rom using pc or storage card to get your phone working again. Using a hardspl you can flash any carrier rom without cid unlocking your device first.
Radio = you are correct about your assumption as to what a radio does .
Now if you are flashing your carriers official rom than you don't need any of this stuff but different carriers set their cid in their roms so only phones that have their cid can flash those roms ... now if you like the wwe htc rom and want to flash it onto the tilt you will first need to hardspl your device or otherwise you won't be able to flash the rom ... it will time out with an error telling you invalid vendor id.
Many thanks! Now it is much clearer! Just one more question: why do people care so much for the radio and post their radio version to their signature? Is the radio revision so important? Why is it not just part of the rom?
Thanks again!

well radio is definitely important ... i mean if you have a uncompatible radio you will loose sound, camera, connection etc on your phone. Reason people list the radio they are using is basically to let others know what radio is working for them on the rom they have. This way if someone else doesn't know which radio to use with the rom than can use the radio they have listed. Radios are location dependant. Some radios give better reception here in states while others give better reception somewhere else in the world.
Most of the time chefs will include a radio with their rom, but some leave it out so you can choose the one that works best for you. Just a keynote to keep in mind when selecting radios is that wm6.1 roms need wm6.1 radios and wm6 roms need wm6 radios. Also DO NOT flash a radio that is intended for another device i.e a rapheal radio onto a kaiser (this will brick your device). There are exceptions to this rule. Also you should get your phone security unlocked before proceeding with flashing various kinds of radios. This will save you from getting stuck with a radio that locks itself to the device (thus rendering itself unchangeable; no matter how many times you flash another radio you will be stuck with that radio) an example of this is "the radio from hell" which alot of people in the kaiser forum got stuck with and weren't able to get rid of it until "FrankenKaiser" came along.
Hope this helps.
Thank you, it does.
Another term I read is Jump SPL. What's that?
Some poeple encounter problems trying to flash hardspl, Jump spl "jump starts" the process.
(problems like the kaiser white screen issue here)
Ok, thank you all.
Now I only have to wait for the Blackstone Hard SPL.

How do you know that? In the placeholder topic there has been no update about the development status since a while.
WOW!!
Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to thesire and joel2009 for being so extremely nice to a newbie!!! This is probably one of the first posts I have seen where a newbie doesn't get their head bitten off for asking a question. (I don't think I've ever asked a question for that very reason! LOL)
I was searching for the answer to 'what is SSPL' because I couldn't find it in the Wiki acronyms section. What a pleasant surprise! Sorry if this steers away from the topic but I just could NOT pass over this thread without saying THANKS!!!!!!!!
You wont get flamed for asking Questions in this Forum

my friends, you need to master the art of searching
So I actually risked to find my skin burnt by the flame?
I didn't even know that there was a wiki/knowledge base here. Well, I actually felt somthing like that, but I completely forgot about that when searching. I searched carefully indeed, but only in the forum, and since lots of topics contain the words SPL, HSPL and so on, I was unable to find relevant results.
I'll look there next time, thank you all again.

how to find original SPL FOR HD2
Does anyone know where to fin dthe original 2.10 spl for hd2 so i can return it ?
Hey everyone first of all i would like to thank all of you for all the amazing info. you guys really helped me with unlocking the phone took me almost the hole day as was getting errors but now that's set......the help i need is in firstly answering certain questions .......
1).....Is it true that if I flash my Rom again I dont have to worry about it getting locked again.
2).....When BootLoader Mode shows SPL-1.0 OliPof means I am ready to flash any Rom right? Or should I go through CID unlock.
3).....If I flash my Tilt with an HTC Rom will I still see all those ATT Logo and 3G Splash screen and will I have all those useless ATT software.
4).....If something does go wrong or I dont like the new Rom can I flash back; the reason I ask is because some said that you couldnt. Are there a lot of issues using an OFFICIAL HTC ROM... or have they all been fixed.
5).....Has the Keyboard Issue been fixed yet for the HTC Rom or not.
Thanks,
no sim locks are not reapplied with rom flash
1) Once you are unlocked, you stay unlocked through all rom flashes
2) You should go through the CID unlock if you want to flash a rom that is not meant for your phone (cooked rom ) Most roms also require a HardSpl update to 3.29 or 3.56
3) Yes, All the AT$T stuff is in the AT$T rom, it makes sense that if you dump the rom for another, you are dumping all the stuff contained in the rom.
4) You can flash back, forward, up, down, sideways, anyway you want to any rom you want as long as it is a rom written for a Kaiser. What is wrong with the OFFICIAL HTC ROM ? There are bugs in any rom, most are user initiated, program conflicts, or they just happen on one phone and not on another and no one can figure out why. Cooked or Official, they all have quirks, official probably less so.
5) There is a Tilt keyboard fix out and also an HTC keyboard fix out.
Just follow this tutorial step by step and you will have no problems,

I am never surprised by the smugness on this site. He is obviously from a different country and may not be able decipher through lots of English posts quickly...

Obviously if he has 333 posts on this site, then he does know a little english.
Also, he knows to ask for a RUU for a custom ROM.
I would BET that he knows what HardSPL is as well, but like most people, simply too lazy to look

Oh, you free lance moderators and your worthwhile posts that contribute to the forums so much. The best way to build your post count is to respond with "search before asking!" in every new thread.
Anyway, yeah, a hardSPL is useless if we don't have an RUU. It's supposedly confirmed (according to a Sprint employee... who knows) that WM 6.5 WILL come to this device, so if/when that happens, we've got our RUU.
Good to hear. Thanks for the info to0

@ everyone: I need a RUU bcoz I want to flash some patched radio to try some things, thats all. I have SPL MFG and other stuff
here is the RUU that you can extract out of the 1.04 update from sprint.
I think we have to make things a bit clearer:
1) You CAN flash your device with any localized rom WITHOUT having to hard-spl it (ROM must be signed). HardSPL is only needed to upgrade the radio part (and to block dangerous IPL/SPL upgrades too, obviously) and flashing unsigned cooked roms.
2) You prolly CAN flash your device without CustomRUU. Generally speaking all devices made by HTC can be flashed from the SD simply putting a .nbh file with the proper name for the device in the root dir of the SD expansion card. Then, pushing a combination of buttons, you can start the flash process.
For the HTC Panther (the codename of the TP), we can only guess what name we have to use (PANTimg.nbh and TPimg.nbh could be good candidates). Then we have to guess the right button combo. Hard? Uneasy? Let's try...

Hi, do u mean taking the logo off the front of the device or flashing a faster rom? for rom make sure u flash Hard spl(check the noob guide) and for the logo if its not actually in the glass on the front then u would open your phone cover up and scrape the logo off(not recomended). once u have hard spl u can change the logo that shows when u turn it on and the gay att animation.
That's pretty much what this entire forum is all about. You need to check out the ROM section of the Raphael sub-section and read the sticky's there. I would HIGHLY recommend installing the Energy ROM series. If you are going from the AT&T ROM to that you will be floored with the increase in speed and just overall sexyness.

Just the software/firmware. I could care less what the phone actually looks like as long as it works correctly.
Anybody have any recommendations on what ROM to flash? It's actually going to my girlfriend once I get this ATT branding off of it, so the easier to use the better. I was thinking about just loading the unbranded touch pro's ROM if I can find it, unless the cooked ROMs would be ok for someone who probably won't want to reflash ROMs often.
If you need stability, flash a WM6.1 ROM, the WM6.5 ROMs are still beta and a little buggy.

I think I'm gonna try one of the engeryrom 6.1 ROMs. Thanks guys!
Out of curiosity, lets say that I brick the phone, anyway to bring it back?

To brick your phone implies that is is dead and cannot be brought back.
There are very few instances where a device cannot be bought back.
If you read the Noob flashing guide, make sure you have Hard SPL installed and follow the directions to the letter, you won't brick your phone.
One thing to remember, as you start flashing ROMs, you will want to flash back to stock ROM in between flashing customs ROMs as the RUU wrappers do not completely overwrite the previous ROMs but flashing back to stock does.

I'm not really planning on reflashing a lot honestly, since it's not my personal phone. If that was the case, then I'd probably play a bit more with it.
It does look pretty straight forward but I always tend to worry a bit when I do something new. I don't really expect anything bad to happen though.
Just a warning, its very addicting....
It looks like it is. I wish my e63 had the same hacks that these have for them. I see a lot of room for improvment on it...
I wouldn't say all the 6.5 ROMs are buggy. Get the latest EnergyROM which is 6.5. The buggy ones are 6.5.1 which are changing the UI.
First.off all lets stop the discussion about which is the best ROM! LOOK FIRST into debloating a stock ROM. Arupenthal and myself have good threads about it. SECOND look into hardSPL and understand what it does. THIRD I agree that a good start would be a 6.1 based ROM again arupp and NRG (2.0) ROMs may be the best start. Careful flashing a stock HTC TouchPro ROM. It may work w/o hardSPL but the keyboard layout differs and requires at least one more cab (fuzekeyboard) and even ATT connection setup.. Be patient read a lot and understand what you are doing and what'ss going on!! It'll take some time but Rome wasn't built in a day either
