ROM with VoIP? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Hey, I currently use Dutty's ROM. Not sure of the version, but I put it on in March, so it is probably a bit behind as of now.
I really like the ROM overall, but I'm looking for a VoIP option. I like the full featured ROMs and I'm searching through the threads, but wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the full-featured ROM I'm looking for with VoIP.

Laurentius26's L26_KaiserDiamond_V9 has just that animal.
It's also a full feature rom that is very nice to use.
Psi

It is pretty easy to re-cook most of the ROMs with VoIP integrated
I took the latest official HTC WWE ROM, dumped it and put it into the kitchen and re-cooked it with VoIP included. It was pretty simple to do. There seem to be 3 different VoIP file versions floating around however I used the latest I could find (files from April & June 2007), if there are newer ones I would be grateful if anyone could post them or post an URL?
There is still the ongoing issue of the audio being routed to the external speaker and not the phone speaker (unless you use a wired/bluetooth headset). It looks like the Hermes is the only HTC device that gets the VoIP audio routed correctly?
I replied to a previous thread about this

Uprade for dummies? A few newbie questions.

Okay, I'm absolutely new to the PDA-Dev stuff. I'm a normal desktop software developer and I only use the PDA's as a normal user ;-)
I have the german T-Mobile branded MDA Pro.
So here are my first questions:
1.) Here in the forums we have a few threads about WM6 on the
- WM6 kitchen release
- Jwrightmcps Crossbow
- Final ULTIMATE - No Bugs HTC Universal WM6 ROM
- Universal WM6 Professional Rom
So, on a first look this is oabsolutely verwhelming. What is the right choice? In other words: When wanting to upgrade, what is the most stable version?
2.) What is this AKU stuff that's mentioned in nearly every post? I can't find a clear explanation of what this really is.
3.) I want to upgrade in a legal way. Loosing support on my MDA is not the problem, but I want a legally licenced WM6 on my pda. So where can I get that?
Are there any other hints, tips & tricks you would suggest for starting with that?
I think you on the wrong forum man!
You need Microsoft website
The only legal version of WM is WM5.
reed this
http://www.xda-developers.com/modules.php?name=News&file=showarticle&threadid=294142
1) Really, the only 'stable' ROM is WM5, WM6 will have some problems, but they are getting better.
2) I actually haven't figrude that one out yet... I assume its the version number or something... never really been important.
3) Short answer you can't, long answewr talk to t-mobile.I'm not aware of any carrier releasing WM6 for the universal, but for a legal upgrade you'd have to get it from your carrire (and most likely have them do it)
Okay.. well.. then.. hrm.. just ignore point three.
Back to point 1.) I do not want a rock stable WM6 on my MDA Pro. But when it comes to different WM6 versions/distributions to choose from, I want the most stable of them. So which one is the one to go for?
To Point 2.) I thought about some version numbering too, but I'm not pretty sure about that. But when it's not really important, why making the difference? ;-)
Is video call important to you?
There is still no known stable Video Call on WM6 yet except for the Video Call Beta by Jwright.
I think there is only 2 known source (correct me if I am wrong) of WM6 for Universal floating around in many forums. The one by Helmi (older AKU) & the one by Ivan (newer AKU). The rest are just variants of this 2. With Plus & Minus features, some bug fix, etc.

There are 3 bases:
The "Old" base (helmi 0.1, midget 0.1[.1], JWright, etc)
Ivan's new ROM (Ivan V1,2,3)
Midget's new ROM (Midget 1.0, Ivan's customisation of Midget, PDAViet (Latest)
My recommendation (and I think this is the fourth, possibly fifth, time I've said this - grab all the ROMs that are stickied to the forum - and test them all. If you're concerned about stability during your tests then get a spare phone to use.
And if you're trully concerned about stability and legality - stick to your vendor's version of WM 5
PhoenixHawk:
I 'was' in the exact same position as you. I'm a software developer, have never upgraded a ROM before and all these "Crossbow", "WM6 Final", "WM6V3.??", "No Bugs", "Final", etc, etc, had me somewhat scratching my head.
In a total nutshell, I did the following:
1
Followed this guide : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...tion On How To Upgrade with Bootloader method
(i.e., downloaded WinRar, and "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe")
2
Downloaded the first RAR file from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305512
3
When part 2 had downloaded, I copied the "MaUGradeUt_noID.exe" into the "NOCID_RUU_flasher_xda-devs" directory which is from the extracted RAR file.
4
Copied the "nk.nbf" file from the "Uni_WM6_v3_Ivan" directory into the "NOCID_RUU_flasher_xda-devs" directory from the extracted RAR file.
5
Double-clicked "MaUGradeUt_noID.exe" in the "NOCID_RUU_flasher_xda-devs" directory.
6
Started to worry as the program flashed my ROM.
Some 10 minutes later I had a fully working, zero problem HTC Universal running what looks to be a rock-solid stable version of Windows Mobile 6.
Hope this messages, coming from someone who has never done anything like this before is both easy to follow, 'n00b proof' and proof that it can be done from someone with zero-experience.
I'm sure there's a load of pro's and con's in which ever ROM is downloaded, but I took the chance at what I thought would be an easy to follow option, read as much as possible and it seems to have paid off.
Hope this helps,
J

Your answer should be like above.
PhoenixHawk need the second part, not me.
I thought Midget's was derived from Ivan's, so I was wrong.
@J
You are right, once you get the first working, you can read on or try as many until you are happy with one.
I'll give it a try.
I don't have a spare phone, so my regular one will have to keep up with me ;-)
But first things first: Currently I have some problems getting my MDA Pro syncing with my Vista client. The mobile device center just won't recognize my pda when it's connected. And I can't start about thinking flashing the rom until that's not working... anyone a clue?

Take some advice (I didn't listen, thought I was better than everyone else and ending up bricking my phone everytime).
Do NOT use Vista. For the sake of an hour's additional work in either installing another harddrive or swapping it temporarily, do everything within an XP environment.
Trouble free.

Does nobody use VoIP? Or is everyone just ignoring the issues?

There is quite obviously an issue with ALL ROMs except the original 5.2.318 with regard to VoIP and the Wizards integrated speakers. I would have thought VoIP was one of the major attractions of WM6 and I can't believe everyone who is using it is using a BT headset permanently. However it seems to me that there is a distinct lack of enthusiasm for getting this working in the newer Wizard ROMs or have I missed something
I need VoIP (& L2TP/IPSec...) to work reliably, I also want a recent ROM for the speed and because it's newer (don't reply with 'just downgrade to 5.2.318...').
Is anyone working on fixing the VoIP & Speaker issues with the latest ROMs? (please)
Andy
after your PM, i'm really listed your issue with others, i have many foundations in VoIP differences between .318 build and others (2 of them we tested them together).
there are two roms comming soon (1437 build and 1908 build), test them and report please to try more.

Do I understand it well that you are working also on the build 1908?
I was a bit dissapointed that you announced using 1437 for future...
Well, I understand that stability is the most important (so far I think that TNT 4 was the best ROM), but I would like to try a higher build from somebody who really tries to fix things...
From what I read I am not very satisfied with 1908 ROMs available (quite a few complains about bugs).

yes, i'm working on both.
i think i will release them at the same day.
1908 build has many of fixes, but it wasn't very compatible with wizard drivers, i'm at the last touches with the drivers.
I think until a post appears with a title like:
New Microsoft RIL & HTC Wizard Audio driver update to support VoIP

Then VoIP is going to be a problem in all ROMs later than the 5.2.318 build. My understanding is there is an issue with the Wizards audio driver and that it doesn't interface with the M$ RIL correctly? correct me if I'm wrong?
Does anyone know how we could modify the driver to work with the latest M$ RIL?
Andy
p.s. can we keep this thread on topic as there are hundreds of others dealing with the latest builds and custom ROMs, I wanted this to open up a discussion regarding why VoIP doesn't work with the Wizards integrated speaker and how we can resolve this.

on the next releasing, i used exactly the same drivers of 318 build (some roms used as files, but this time used as modules), so if something fails because of drivers, it should be fixed.

No, I know how to get VoIP working, the issue is with the latest ROM builds the VoIP audio is not routed to the Wizards integrated speakers (either the Phone speaker or the Stereo speakers).
My understanding is the M$ RIL (Radio Interface Layer) has changed considerably in the latest builds and the HTC Audio Driver has not been updated so does not interface correctly with this RIL. Therefore the drivers from the 5.2.318 build are not going to solve the issue. Correct me if I am wrong here, but this is how I understood the issue?
Andy
That thread covers a plethora of issues. Having read through most of it, I believe this was a problem that may have been addressed earlier, but not solved. I would put out some feelers with Sleuth255 and eluth and see what you come up with and tie your feedback into this thread. I'd be willing to help, it's just that I've lost interest with WM6 since I've been running AKU3.3 on my device and had no hiccups, and I'm also using my device very heavily in my new job.
Still getting nowhere............
I have asked several people on here and there seems to be no resolution to this fundamental issue
I still see everyone including VoIP (or providing a link to an 'add-on') in their builds of ROM's based on 5.2.1437 or later, yet it doesn't work
If anyone has any updates to this then please post them.

I can and have cooked many ROMs. The ROM you posted previously as a test would not work as I said in the thread. I did not want to waste time extracting this as the VoIP components you posted to test with I have already tested and they don't work. If you have some alternatives then please let me know.
I currently have a kitchen that I have modified based around WhiteRat's 5.2.1437 Base. I have VoIP integrated into this, however with all ROM's created from this the fundamental issue remains - no sound from the onboard speakers when using VoIP I assume there are no differences between your 5.2.1437 Base and WhiteRat's since you both have rebased drivers based on the original 5.2.318 ROM.

ok, we will play with SYS folder, you have to get 318 full kitchen (which work with you), then we will start with replacing some packages on the SYS folder, the most important Phone folders, then shell folder, then OS folder, and after every change test it if it worked or not.

Hi, I have tried TNT5 and VoIP appears to work, however when I make a VoIP call there is no audio via the integrated speaker. If I use a BT Headset I can hear the audio but never from the speaker, this works with the older 5.2.318 based ROM's. Can you give me more details of what settings you use and whether you have a G4 or G3 Wizard?

Help with upgrading my K-JAM to WM6 & picking a ROM, etc.

Hey all, I hope you'll go easy on me as this is the first time I've ever flashed a WM device and the prospect of going wrong has caused me to post here! If anyone could talk me through this I'd be most greatful.
First off thanks for the guide which I've been studying for the best part of the day! I now think I'm ready to give it a try.
I have an i-mate K-JAM with an IPL/SPL of 2.16 which I assume means I have a G3.
I hope I've got it right...
I assume I'll need to downgrade using the Button rom to 1.05 then use Lokiwiz to perform a CID unlock (dunno if my device is CID locked or not, I'll just guess that it is).
Next step will be to upgrade to this T-Mobile ROM and then upgrade to IPL/SPL 3.08 to make the device boot faster.
Now it's time to flash with a WM6 rom right?! .
I'm a little wary of the huge variety of ROMs available. I realise I can't ask 'what's the best ROM' which is fine but I'd like to know which roms people would recommend for maintaining the same functionality of the original WM5 rom that came with my K-JAM, give me the ability to make VoIP calls (I have a voipcheap sip account) and be rather speedy.
I've heard good things about the TNT ROM which appears to have the above things I need. I assume this is the ROM I'll need - I think I'd prefer to add apps seperately so I guess it's best to go with the 'Official' version over 'Professional'.
About VoIP - I've seen people have been having issues with the other persons sound coming from the loudspeaker, has this issue been sorted now?
Let's say I decide to go back to WM5 (for whatever reason) at a later stage, I assume this'll still be possible by following the exact same downgrade/upgrade steps in the guide?
I hope I'm on the right path. Thanks to anyone who can help out!

Sorry, I've tuned into your question late. If it helps, I'm using mfrazz's XM6r3 ROM (I tried a more recent one that was buggier and went back to 3.) VoIP (Internet Calling) worked "right out of the box"- I just had to load one of the VoIP configuration utilities floating around here to enter my provider settings.
The only two issues really are that it uses the loadspeaker instead of the earspeaker (but bluetooth works fine) and the biggest issue- the Wizard is just too d**m slow for Internet Calling to work well- the audio is very choppy without overclocking (which I'm loathe to do.)
Fring, from Fring.com is a decent app for VoIP on slow WM phones like the Wizard, so I have that installed as well. It lets you use Skype, Google Talk, and a few other VoIPs as well as one SIP provider all in one app. It's not perfect either- it also uses the loudspeakers, it's akward to dial from (it has no real "dial pad"- you can either dial an existing contact by selecting one, or another number by selecting any contact and "overriding" their displayed number), it doesn't support DTMF (so there's no way to "press 1 for English...") and it always leaves the device volume at full blast when you exit the app, but it's got the best audio quality of any VoIP app I've used on the Wizard. (I used it from Mexico back in January over my hotel's WiFi to make $0.02/minute calls back to the States rather than T-Mobile's generous $1.49/min roam rate!)

Two Versions ROMs - Different Benefits

There are two different versions of ROMs floating, each with different benefits. For seek of ease, I will name them Version A and Version B.
Version A:
1. MSVC (MicroSoft Voice Command) - Once the bluetooth is paired to the headset, from then on if the bluetooth is active, the incoming ringing sound goes to the headset, and not to the speaker phone. Thus, it either requires you to wear the headset 24/7 or to watch the display 24/7 for the incoming calls. This results in lots of mis-calls and then calling back.
Please Note: For more information on the above and how to resolve the above issue, please check out the excellent thread by Bengalih. Please go to the new Definitive MSVC thread to read about it. Thanks Bengalih!
2. The Resco Keyboard and some others cannot the set as default keyboard, no matter what sip program (or combination programs) is used. Forget that, just to activate the Resco Keyboard is impossible.
Version B:
1. IMAGiNet and/or MOBiDIV Arabizer refuses to install. Period, no if or but about it.
2. Skype installs but it doesn't work, though not all ROMs.
To wrap up:
In one month's time, I have almost flashed my tilt daily, thus trying all the latest ROMS. The only ROM which doesn't suffers from the above problems is Dutty's April 1 (April Fool's Day).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380991
There is another latest ROM which falls under the category of Version B is the latest PDAViet ROM. The ROM is lightning fast and thunderous. It has 32 PP and after installing lots and lots of programs (software), it still has:
Storage Memory: 102.24 Free
Program Memory: 49.75 Free
I can only say, WOW!

if Skype (or MSN) is not connecting, go to Start\Settings\Connections\Connection\Manage existing connections\Proxy settings\ and deactivate 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet'
- I added BT AudioToggle to my Multimedia build so that you can switch between the Bluetooth headset and the device speaker.

Hi userwag,
The HyperDragon II is a beautiful, stable and very fast ROM. I believe the ROM is built from the NoThrills ROM.
Unfortunately, it falls under the category of Version B. It would be nice if we can combine the benefits of both Version A and Version B together. I believe Leo would be not very far from doing so!

King,
since you spent alot of time on this, would you be able to point me towards which ROMs out there fall into the "B" category. I am looking for a fairly new 6.1 clean/lite ROM that does not have any bluetooth issues.
Also, do you think that the Version B problems may be because of NetCF 3.5 instead of 2.0? And, what exactly is the Skype problem? I have had issues after installing Skype that it doesn't properly connect, but after messing around with network and proxy settings it would function.
thx
KOR, good summarization of the most annoying problems I faced along the last 2 months. As Leo stated above, his ROM version C 6, May one is good regarding the BT problem, I am using a sterio BT headset, and the ringing tone is directed via the headset while still there in the phon speaker. I have not tried imaginiet arabizer yet, but it worked with version A.

I am not a very heavy user of Skype. As far as fast and stable ROMs in category of Version B are concerned, the HyperDragon II ROM released on May 4, and PDAViet ROM released on May 3 are the way to go. The links for them respectively are as follow.

I see that PDAViet have released a new ROM today on May 8. I am downloading it right now and will give it a try to see how it fares.
As far as A2DP is concerned, I believe, master Leo had it mastered during his Universal cooking days!
I am charging my stereo bluetooth right now and will try to test some of the other ROMs for A2DP.
KOR!
Hi there KOR,
On the Kaiser I'm still using my Motorola HT820 and it works flawless
It's nice to have incomming call anouncement with MS Voice Command over the A2DP headset too.
I pickup by pushing a button on my headset and start talking, also I can start Voice Command over the headset and make a call.
Cheers,
Leo

Hi Buddy,
No doubt that the A2DP works flawlessly in your ROMs.
I am still using your drivers and settings for A2DP for every ROM I flash to the Universal. The Motorola HT820 rocks without a hitch in my Unis.
Best regards,
KOR!
No Resco Keyboard function?
King of Rapture™ said:
There are two different versions of ROMs floating, each with different benefits. For seek of ease, I will name them Version A and Version B.
Version A:
. . .
2. The Resco Keyboard and some others cannot the set as default keyboard, no matter what sip program (or combination programs) is used. Forget that, just to activate the Resco Keyboard is impossible . . .

Can you provide a list of ones that fall into this category? Resco Keyboard function is of prime importance to me, so I would want to avoid these.
Thanks!

Hi cushcalc.
Sure! These are the ROMs which I have tried.
Version A:
1. Dutty's all ROM released since April 2.
2. Leo's latest release Laurentius26_V4.
Version B:
These below ROMs are built from the NoThrills as a base.
1. Leo's releases Laurentius26_V3, Laurentius26_V2 and Laurentius26_V1.
2. Sakajati's HyperDragon II.
3. PDAVeit's ROMs released on May 8 and May 3.
4. Its Right's TNT 19202 Series.
When I first got my att tilt, TNT was one of the first ROMs I flashed. Then I tried lots of other ROMs. Yesterday, I flashed this ROM again and honestly I am impressed. I am sticking with this ROM for a while, even though the TNT ROM doesn't install the IMAGiNet and MOBiDIV Arabizer.
Please Note:
1. Dutty's April 1 ROM, is the only ROM which combines the benefit of both Version A and Version B.
2. I have not tried any ROMs released before March 31.
3. All the ROMs mentioned above are great, fast, stable and so forth. Each one has it strengths and weakness.
KOR!
Hey guys, based on the MSVC issues listed with the ROMs in this thread, you may be interested in a new tool I wrote for MSVC. Please go to the new Definitive MSVC thread to read about it.

Dear Bengalih,
Excellent thread on MSVC (MicroSoft Voice Command). Very useful and informative.
I have added your thread on the first post and have bookmarked it in my PC.

WM6.5 ROM with SIP VOIP

Hi,
Can someone suggest what WM6.5 ROM I can use that has SIP VOIP capability? I am using 6.5.1.7 - 23085 from md_bluelily (which works great on my 8125!) but it does not appear to include SIP.
Thanks.

What do you mean with SIP VOIP? Sorry no time for research
Hi,
I mean "Internet Calling" feature of WM6.x
Please read this post for more details on what I am looking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299950
I was unable to get this to work with this ROM, so I assume that it is not included.
Thanks
Sorry, my bad. It does work fine with this ROM... just my lack of understanding of how to use the SIP feature of WM.
You can use BsbG rom, Makeveral has not removed the voip files
Voip ENERGY Leo ROM
Dear all I have searched en searched but didn't find a answer anywhere.
The problem is next:
I want to use VOIP on my TP2.
In the ENERGY Leo ROM VOIP is integrated.
I only download a SIPconfig tool to make it work.
But I don't get the speaker and the mic. to work properly.
Calling as a fact is working but then the people can’t hear my.
And I hear than only over the back speaker.
Does somebody know how to solve this problem??
I wonder the same thing and I searched too on the forums, but SIP seems to be also something to do with keyboards
Since the VOIP funcionality has been removed by HTC (probably necessitated by the telephone company) am I to assume that all the custom ROMs have not removed it? Because in the versions they modify (i.e. kitchens) it is still included or not? It would only be logical, as it's such a useful - not to mention incredible cost effective - function!
So could someone spread any light on this: do all the ROMs have it or just some? If only some, which?
Or do I still need something like the CAB files from these sites (which don't quite work for me on the original ROM).

I just want to only have to plug in my sip server and account details and be ready to go... which ROM(s) have that?
sip voip solved
