Does nobody use VoIP? Or is everyone just ignoring the issues? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

There is quite obviously an issue with ALL ROMs except the original 5.2.318 with regard to VoIP and the Wizards integrated speakers. I would have thought VoIP was one of the major attractions of WM6 and I can't believe everyone who is using it is using a BT headset permanently. However it seems to me that there is a distinct lack of enthusiasm for getting this working in the newer Wizard ROMs or have I missed something
I need VoIP (& L2TP/IPSec...) to work reliably, I also want a recent ROM for the speed and because it's newer (don't reply with 'just downgrade to 5.2.318...').
Is anyone working on fixing the VoIP & Speaker issues with the latest ROMs? (please)
Andy

after your PM, i'm really listed your issue with others, i have many foundations in VoIP differences between .318 build and others (2 of them we tested them together).
there are two roms comming soon (1437 build and 1908 build), test them and report please to try more.

Do I understand it well that you are working also on the build 1908?
I was a bit dissapointed that you announced using 1437 for future...
Well, I understand that stability is the most important (so far I think that TNT 4 was the best ROM), but I would like to try a higher build from somebody who really tries to fix things...
From what I read I am not very satisfied with 1908 ROMs available (quite a few complains about bugs).

yes, i'm working on both.
i think i will release them at the same day.
1908 build has many of fixes, but it wasn't very compatible with wizard drivers, i'm at the last touches with the drivers.

I think until a post appears with a title like:
New Microsoft RIL & HTC Wizard Audio driver update to support VoIP

Then VoIP is going to be a problem in all ROMs later than the 5.2.318 build. My understanding is there is an issue with the Wizards audio driver and that it doesn't interface with the M$ RIL correctly? correct me if I'm wrong?
Does anyone know how we could modify the driver to work with the latest M$ RIL?
Andy
p.s. can we keep this thread on topic as there are hundreds of others dealing with the latest builds and custom ROMs, I wanted this to open up a discussion regarding why VoIP doesn't work with the Wizards integrated speaker and how we can resolve this.

on the next releasing, i used exactly the same drivers of 318 build (some roms used as files, but this time used as modules), so if something fails because of drivers, it should be fixed.

No, I know how to get VoIP working, the issue is with the latest ROM builds the VoIP audio is not routed to the Wizards integrated speakers (either the Phone speaker or the Stereo speakers).
My understanding is the M$ RIL (Radio Interface Layer) has changed considerably in the latest builds and the HTC Audio Driver has not been updated so does not interface correctly with this RIL. Therefore the drivers from the 5.2.318 build are not going to solve the issue. Correct me if I am wrong here, but this is how I understood the issue?
Andy

That thread covers a plethora of issues. Having read through most of it, I believe this was a problem that may have been addressed earlier, but not solved. I would put out some feelers with Sleuth255 and eluth and see what you come up with and tie your feedback into this thread. I'd be willing to help, it's just that I've lost interest with WM6 since I've been running AKU3.3 on my device and had no hiccups, and I'm also using my device very heavily in my new job.

Still getting nowhere............
I have asked several people on here and there seems to be no resolution to this fundamental issue
I still see everyone including VoIP (or providing a link to an 'add-on') in their builds of ROM's based on 5.2.1437 or later, yet it doesn't work
If anyone has any updates to this then please post them.

I can and have cooked many ROMs. The ROM you posted previously as a test would not work as I said in the thread. I did not want to waste time extracting this as the VoIP components you posted to test with I have already tested and they don't work. If you have some alternatives then please let me know.
I currently have a kitchen that I have modified based around WhiteRat's 5.2.1437 Base. I have VoIP integrated into this, however with all ROM's created from this the fundamental issue remains - no sound from the onboard speakers when using VoIP I assume there are no differences between your 5.2.1437 Base and WhiteRat's since you both have rebased drivers based on the original 5.2.318 ROM.

ok, we will play with SYS folder, you have to get 318 full kitchen (which work with you), then we will start with replacing some packages on the SYS folder, the most important Phone folders, then shell folder, then OS folder, and after every change test it if it worked or not.

Hi, I have tried TNT5 and VoIP appears to work, however when I make a VoIP call there is no audio via the integrated speaker. If I use a BT Headset I can hear the audio but never from the speaker, this works with the older 5.2.318 based ROM's. Can you give me more details of what settings you use and whether you have a G4 or G3 Wizard?

I don't think so, when I leave my WiFi connected and then connect the USB for ActiveSync the Internet Calling goes to 'No Service'. I think this is by design, however I could be wrong?

Yes, I can also confirm than Broadcom stack works great on new WM6 releases.
It is very fast, absorbs not much program memory, but quite a lot of storage memory
(>5MB, so I have now only 8MB on my storage space )
Works great with File Transfer, A2DP, OBEX Push, VCard Push and BT Serial
Ports (BT GPS). I will test HSP/HFP next week.
2 bugs:
- Can't turn off/on Bluetooth from Comm manager
- BT Icon in Setings->Conections is not VGA and has darker
background than Settings windows background...
Is this still in developement or abandoned?

WM6 Wish List.....Please Post your non-Rom-Specific WM6 Issues here

Hi all,
Please could you post any issues you are having, tweaks/ OEMs you would like included into the next WM6 Build.
Leo and I will try to tackle all the known issues people are having with the WM6 builds and release a completed Rom.
Of course we need to know what issues you are having first, so post away.
Please keep this thread clean and only post current Rom problems.
This is not a QA post, it is for us to collect a complete list of known issues.

Current Issues posted.
Conference call.(It let's me swap two calls but not letting me putting in conference (no button, no menu voice))
VOIP working properly through the phone earpiece and use the built in GSM CODEC, but mainly the earpiece.
True VGA
An update with the new HTC apps (audio manager, today, …)
Video Call, and if you could fix Messenger Live, so that it doesn't download my MSN contacts to the Address Book
3G data to work properly and STAY connected when push/a constant connection is enabled
Vanilla version + kitchen (I prefer not to have msn and live)
wifi wpa
fully-functional phone (quick responding keys) -- when i tried leo's v7, the response was slow and Talk button doesn't always work.
Ringtones on SD Card.
after turning on wifi - the bubble still stays as "turn ON wifi", and not "turn OFF wifi"

OK, to start off with one that seems to have been only commented on a couple of times - the "Turn on WI-Fi" works to turn on Wi-Fi but still says "Turn on WI-Fi" even after this, and cannot be used to Turn off Wi-Fi as it could in WM5 (which meant we didn't need to use the Comm Manager).
omg.. we have 2 stickies catering to bug reports/tracking. I personally prefer TehPenguin's bugtracker.. it looks much more organized (but I hate the color combination and font sizes of his site.. no offense ThePenguin ) I already posted I few bugs there that I remember I had when using the ROMs.
More memory Please
Hi Leo
I am using your current rom. Works great but would like to see more program memory up to 10 mb even at the expense of storage memory. Out of the 48.9 mb program memory available I am using more than 70% at 34.57 mb which only leaves me < 14mb free. (Pocket Breeze is a TSR using 3mb alone unless minimized)
In conjunction with this request can you also look at memory leakage? At reboot I get around 60% usage before opening anything, then the memory appears to leak or increase even without loading any applications up to 80% usage after around 2 days.
Cheers,
Simon
simonsalo, it's not the ROM. It's your today screen plugins that leaks. Or the apps/programs that you use.
The base ROM used in Laurentius26's ROM is Midget_1990's ROM.. which is by far the most memory efficient WM6 ROM out there.

No offence taken - I stole the style off another site
Just a reminder - If you need Admin\Developer privileges to my site, just PM or email me
I've just gone to the bug tracker to add those I've found - I think it's a more structured way of reporting bugs than a free-for-all in the forum. I think we should try and encourage people to use that to report bugs.
Cheers,
Steve.

Hi Midget,
Yes we have a bug tracker (congrats and thx to TehPenguin for that), but what I am after here, is not necessarily bugs.
What I want to collect is what people want working on WM6 in general, I don't want bugs listed from each different Rom.
I need to know what features are important to everyone so that we can prioritse fixes better and make a WM6 Rom that suits all (now I know that's near impossible) but if we can collate a list of features/apps and functionalities, iron out the bugs we can get a stable functional Rom for WM6 that the majority will be happy with.
Cheers,
Beast
We(speaking for probably everyone here... ) could use the video call, and if you could fix Messenger Live, so that it doesn't download my MSN contacts to the Address Book, it would be great.
Or at least make sure that even if it downloads the contacts, they don't disappear from the MSN contact list when deleted from the address book(I recently had that problem: half my contact list vanished without a trace when I merged the downloaded instant messaging addresses into the existing contacts(to have everything in one place), and when I tried to re-add them, messenger gave me a curt response: "There was a problem. Please try again")
Also, if you could fix a small bug that makes the backlight button open Backlight Settings in addition to turning on the light, it would be great.
Also, system sounds seem a bit on the quiet side, it would be welcome if you could amp them a notch or two...
Thank you very much for your efforts in advance!

Nicetrack for WM 6 ??

I wasnt able to work with Nicetrack and found that the link to their site is dead.
Is there any other software that works similarly to nicetrack on WM6.
Im on nfrazz62a ROM.with Radio ROM 02.47.11
maybe you can fill us in on exactly what nicetrack does, because this is the first time ive seen or heard of it and maybe for others as well.
Hi mdajunkie,
Its a software which gives us the information about the signal strength in dBm.
well I know you asked for something similar and the only thing that I could think of that has something similar or close to what you might need is batterystatus. That gives you a percentage on how strong your signal is, also does a few other very useful tricks. I wish I could leave you with a link or something to download and try but unfortunately im not at home, otherwise I post it for you. hate to say it but use the search for batterystatus or hopefully someone else has some better input than I could give.
Here is batterystatus
Hi Binder
Thanks for the link.....
And thankyou mdajunkie for the info...
I will try this out and will post back.
Emm,
Nothin upto Nice track.
That was really perfect !
You can download nice track still
I downloaded nice track 8/14 here. I agree that nothing matched nicetrack for maintaining a database of signal strength, cell towers, and even locations when it is hooked up with GPS. However, I have met nothing but failure in trying to get it to work on WM6 - It needs to know the COM port for GSM, and none of the available ones work - either no signal, or it locks the application. Because I really need it in the current cell-strength purgatory I find myself, I might be going back to WM5 if I can't bumble my way through it.
The author released the source code (waaaay beyond my skills) at the same website.
PLEASE let me know if anyone gets it working on WM6. I am currently running Jaguar2 on a wizard.
THANKS.
Please, could anyone send me a copy of the Nicetrack 1.6 sources (binaries would be fine too but I need the source) ?The website is down...
At the moment the site is up to work

YES! it is working on my Qtek S100 with wm2003se !!! very nice m8
BUT i can't get it to work with wm6.1 well, the 2008 versions that site actually *WORK* (you can see the cells already being detected) but it has a small resolution. Versions from 2006 have correct resolution, but don't work at all. I'll try contacting the developer, as i don't have any coding skills whatsoever
PS: i tried the batterystatus today plug-in from previous page, but it reveals to be a huge battery hog (at least for me). the constant refreshing of data probably is to blame.

VoIP in Windows Mobile 6.1?

I have been playing around with building some WM 6.1 ROMs and have got VoIP to work using a combination of the drivers that are out there. It isn't perfect as there is still the issue with the audio being routed to the stereo speakers and not the phone speaker (I have a feeling unless HTC get involved then this will never be resolved?). I have also noticed that it is slightly quieter than my current ROM - TNT 1933.
If I use the drivers from TNT 1933 the audio is almost inaudible - certainly unusable - however after some playing around I have got audio that works but is still a bit quiet. The drivers I am using are:
Code:
dnsapi.dll - 23 April 2007, 13:30:54, 5,968 bytes
voipphonecanvas.dll - 23 April 2007, 13:30:54, 134,992 bytes
rtcdll.dll - 31 January 2007, 17:35:00, 1,663,488 bytes
The dnsapi.dll & voipphonecanvas.dll each have a digital signature, whilst the rtcdll.dll doesn't and is obviously older.
Does anyone have any other (newer?) VoIP files I can try?
Thanks
Andy

Is it THIS specific ROM that you're having trouble with, or you need help on how to dump a ROM?

No, its this specific ROM. I have been using the Hypercore kitchen for a while and previously used Molski's cooking pack. I have no issues cooking ROMs and have in the past dumped ROM's without issue. I know there are issues with WM6.1 ROMs - the imgfs tools seem to take much longer and the CPU on my PC peaks which it didn't before. When I use either Hypercore or Molski's tools to dump the ROM it only takes a few seconds and I only get a handful of files.
If either someone can tell me how to dump this ROM or dump it themselves and post the VoIP drivers, either way that would be good...

Any updates on this?
voip over windows mobile
Hi,
I use htc tytn II. Details are as under. Window mobile 6.0
1.56.405.5 rom
08/28/07 rom date
1.27.12.11 radio
22.45.88.074 protocol
I did whatever has been told in this forum being wm6voip.cab and the utility. fring works however inspite of the utility stating that sip over 3g/gsm, it is not working. To find out, i removed the sim and started the machine. Tried to connect through the wifi. It is not working. it states sim not available to make it clear that it is connecting the sim rather than the voip.
Can somebody clarify what is the issue.
Just install fring and be happy! It accepts SIP configuration also!

Two Versions ROMs - Different Benefits

There are two different versions of ROMs floating, each with different benefits. For seek of ease, I will name them Version A and Version B.
Version A:
1. MSVC (MicroSoft Voice Command) - Once the bluetooth is paired to the headset, from then on if the bluetooth is active, the incoming ringing sound goes to the headset, and not to the speaker phone. Thus, it either requires you to wear the headset 24/7 or to watch the display 24/7 for the incoming calls. This results in lots of mis-calls and then calling back.
Please Note: For more information on the above and how to resolve the above issue, please check out the excellent thread by Bengalih. Please go to the new Definitive MSVC thread to read about it. Thanks Bengalih!
2. The Resco Keyboard and some others cannot the set as default keyboard, no matter what sip program (or combination programs) is used. Forget that, just to activate the Resco Keyboard is impossible.
Version B:
1. IMAGiNet and/or MOBiDIV Arabizer refuses to install. Period, no if or but about it.
2. Skype installs but it doesn't work, though not all ROMs.
To wrap up:
In one month's time, I have almost flashed my tilt daily, thus trying all the latest ROMS. The only ROM which doesn't suffers from the above problems is Dutty's April 1 (April Fool's Day).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380991
There is another latest ROM which falls under the category of Version B is the latest PDAViet ROM. The ROM is lightning fast and thunderous. It has 32 PP and after installing lots and lots of programs (software), it still has:
Storage Memory: 102.24 Free
Program Memory: 49.75 Free
I can only say, WOW!

KOR!
Hi KOR,
That makes my version 4. '4 flavours' a version 'A' I supose, with a little exeption to the BT.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=389915
- Imaginet Arabizer compatible
- Skype compatible
if Skype (or MSN) is not connecting, go to Start\Settings\Connections\Connection\Manage existing connections\Proxy settings\ and deactivate 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet'
- I added BT AudioToggle to my Multimedia build so that you can switch between the Bluetooth headset and the device speaker.
Cheers,
Leo

Hi userwag,
The HyperDragon II is a beautiful, stable and very fast ROM. I believe the ROM is built from the NoThrills ROM.
Unfortunately, it falls under the category of Version B. It would be nice if we can combine the benefits of both Version A and Version B together. I believe Leo would be not very far from doing so!

King,
since you spent alot of time on this, would you be able to point me towards which ROMs out there fall into the "B" category. I am looking for a fairly new 6.1 clean/lite ROM that does not have any bluetooth issues.
Also, do you think that the Version B problems may be because of NetCF 3.5 instead of 2.0? And, what exactly is the Skype problem? I have had issues after installing Skype that it doesn't properly connect, but after messing around with network and proxy settings it would function.
thx
KOR, good summarization of the most annoying problems I faced along the last 2 months. As Leo stated above, his ROM version C 6, May one is good regarding the BT problem, I am using a sterio BT headset, and the ringing tone is directed via the headset while still there in the phon speaker. I have not tried imaginiet arabizer yet, but it worked with version A.

Dear bengalih,
I am not a very heavy user of Skype. As far as fast and stable ROMs in category of Version B are concerned, the HyperDragon II ROM released on May 4, and PDAViet ROM released on May 3 are the way to go. The links for them respectively are as follow.

I see that PDAViet have released a new ROM today on May 8. I am downloading it right now and will give it a try to see how it fares.
As far as A2DP is concerned, I believe, master Leo had it mastered during his Universal cooking days!
I am charging my stereo bluetooth right now and will try to test some of the other ROMs for A2DP.

Hi there KOR,
On the Kaiser I'm still using my Motorola HT820 and it works flawless
It's nice to have incomming call anouncement with MS Voice Command over the A2DP headset too.
I pickup by pushing a button on my headset and start talking, also I can start Voice Command over the headset and make a call.
Cheers,
Leo

Hi Buddy,
No doubt that the A2DP works flawlessly in your ROMs.
I am still using your drivers and settings for A2DP for every ROM I flash to the Universal. The Motorola HT820 rocks without a hitch in my Unis.
Best regards,
KOR!

Can you provide a list of ones that fall into this category? Resco Keyboard function is of prime importance to me, so I would want to avoid these.
Thanks!

Hi cushcalc.
Sure! These are the ROMs which I have tried.
Version A:
1. Dutty's all ROM released since April 2.
2. Leo's latest release Laurentius26_V4.
Version B:
These below ROMs are built from the NoThrills as a base.
1. Leo's releases Laurentius26_V3, Laurentius26_V2 and Laurentius26_V1.
2. Sakajati's HyperDragon II.
3. PDAVeit's ROMs released on May 8 and May 3.
4. Its Right's TNT 19202 Series.
When I first got my att tilt, TNT was one of the first ROMs I flashed. Then I tried lots of other ROMs. Yesterday, I flashed this ROM again and honestly I am impressed. I am sticking with this ROM for a while, even though the TNT ROM doesn't install the IMAGiNet and MOBiDIV Arabizer.
Please Note:
1. Dutty's April 1 ROM, is the only ROM which combines the benefit of both Version A and Version B.
2. I have not tried any ROMs released before March 31.
3. All the ROMs mentioned above are great, fast, stable and so forth. Each one has it strengths and weakness.
KOR!
Hey guys, based on the MSVC issues listed with the ROMs in this thread, you may be interested in a new tool I wrote for MSVC. Please go to the new Definitive MSVC thread to read about it.

Dear Bengalih,
Excellent thread on MSVC (MicroSoft Voice Command). Very useful and informative.
I have added your thread on the first post and have bookmarked it in my PC.
