Can't flash rom - battery is dead - HTC Tornado

Hello,
My old Tornado had some battery problems, but i didn't suspect it was that bad until it turned off in the middle of flashing. So naturally, i'm stuck in bootloader...
I've retried several times and using USB from computer, after a full charge, it won't go past 25% of flashing (WM6.1 Pro ROM). I wouldn't buy a new battery since i only use my Kaiser, but i would like to get it out of bootloader.
I've been searching everywhere for a solution... Now i'm asking you if you have an idea, like flashing from the SD card, getting a light rom or something ?
Thanks

Hey there,
I am new at all this, but are you doing Format BINFS
Sounds like memory error (hdd error) so format binfs (not just FORMAT) would help.
I am sure you know this pic tutorial.

Thanks for your reply, i've been through all of this already (it's not the first time i flash it). My biggest problem is that battery life (idle) is around 10 minutes, and if charging with USB, it's only a few minutes more (it drains faster than it charges). Only AC charger gives enough power to charge it.
That's why i'm looking for a solution that allows me to keep it plugged to AC charger, or a way to start without the battery

Finally !
I've successfully flashed "WM6.1 Pro DIAMOND CZ,ENG by Veisen" in approx 3'30 ! I guess the battery had enough rest to sustain the flashing process.
Moderators, please close this thread

Hey before thread gets closed you might want to give aditional details to people who might get stuck as you did.

wrong rom update

After I mistakelt upgrade my s200 with a Kjam rom, the device will not turn on again, now I need to boot from the sd card has anyone an OS backup which work on Sd card?
I ll try to alive the device from sd card but I dont know how I copy the os to the sd card.
Do you have the bootloader alive?
thanks for your help, no I could only reach to Bootscreen when the wall charger plugged, but naturally I could not update the rom from the charger, so I think the only solution is using a backup image from the sd card.

AFAIK, it means that your battery is empty. Try to charge the battery with any working S200/100/110/9100 and you will be able to run the bootloader, then you will restore the device. Correct me, if I wrong.
the problem is not about the charger or battery, although the battery 100% it still cant be opened the problem is after load the Kjam ROM, the device reject to open, it could onyl turn on if the wall charger is pluged however I could plug the USB data cable at the same time. I send it to the service center hope they could recover the device...

This behaviour is typicel for a device with both broken image and discharged battery. The battery WAS at 100%, but the Prophet does not charge it if has no working OS, so the batery was drained until you tryed to reanimate the device. Ensure that the pattery is full with other, working device.
Walker;
I charge the battery with an other prophet I ll wait untill the light become green and battery is 100% then after when I tried with the boken prophet it did not reanimate the device. it is very interesting to see that wizard could work with prohet's rom but not vice versa
Flash wrong ROM consequences
Let me relate my experiences; exactly the same problem.
Update KJAM rom on DOPOD 818Pro ... Damn phone could not power on at all, at most on bootloader, plugin USB cable --> no USB word displayed at bottom.
Try to flash any RUU also no go ...
ON battery, could not power up at all, only plug in wall charger then managed to get to bootloader ... so all was lost.
Send to EBAY (where i bought from) and they flash the bloody Dopod 830 ROM..
During collection, plugin my own battery, same cannot power up... evidently the flash to Kjam killed my battery too !
The good thing was that with the 830 rom, my IPL became 2.16 (from 1.00).
So i reflashed to Dopod latest 2.15 ROM ok... further flash to AKU 2.3 hacked ROM also no problem.
SO, ultimately the cause was a killed battery from the ROM update.
Use a meter to measure contact pt 1 & 2 from top edge of battery, (supposed to be min 4.7V) I believe it's 0V or totally shorted out.
This battery cannot power on the phone, but still can be used as spare battery by power up with wall charger first, the battery still has it's 3.7V available to sustain operation.
So u can go buy a new battery and Flash to the correct ROM now.
Good Luck
to buyaoxiao;
Thanks for your comments but;
I think there is something more serious than the battery; I have two prophets, and I also try with the other's battery and still nothing happened, more than that, both of the batteries work with the non-broken prophet.
Flash wrong ROM
Hmm.. that may be true also.
I cannot really conclude as i was lucky the ebay shop i bought from agree to flash my S200.. i believed they had some trouble too as it took them a week to get it to Dopod 830 rom ... when normally they say 1 day will do. They refused to go into specifics though... (afraid that i demand for 1-1 exchange)
I have had the same problem, so that's why I decide to sent to dealer to try to fix it. Now I'm expect to have a call to pick it up. Hope they can improve my prophet to the new chip G4.
I tryed several times, hours to fix it, but no way. Sorry I can not tell you something good.
I am sure that there should be a way to fix those devices Jtag should not be the only way( if it really works) it is meaningless to loose a device only because of a wrong rom update

How I bricked my 8125

At The Beginning
I have a Cingular 8125 G3. I first began flashing new roms onto my phone 4 months ago after I unlocked it using "the definitive guide to unlocking phone" by DrDot. Everything went smoothly.
The Start of the Problem
A couple days ago, I was running the TNT 1933 with CoolCamera. SUDDENLY, my phone started to reset itself everytime I went on the internet, or downloaded emails.
The Attempted Fix
I decided to flash my phone to another rom, so I began by flashing it back to 1.05 rom that you use in "the definitive guide to unlocking phone" by DrDot, before flashing it to a better rom.
The Final Finally
In the middle of the udate process (for the 1.05 rom), my computer screen said, an error occured, and to redo the update. When I looked at my phone, it started to blink on the 3 color bars. It kept blinking until it died. Now it cannot read a charge or turn on. I tried leaving it on my charger overnight, hoping it would charge, and nothing (not even the charge light on the phone would go on. I also made sure the phone charger was fine, which it is. I even tried to charge it on the usb cable, and occassionally I see the 3 color bars flash). My phone is bricked.
buy a new battery and then flash a new rom
It is not bricked
I will try that

Okay, I'll try that. I'll let you know tonight.
keep in mind that when you are in bootloader mode (tri-color screen) the phone cannot be charged, this is why you should always have a 50% battery level when you flash a rom. A new battery should definately fix it, id flash it with a manufacturers rom that is known to work like the wizard love or t mobile 2.26
Everything is good thanks
I put a new battery in there and it is fine now. Thanks. How can I delete this thread? It is pointless now.
bringing the emty battery UP again with home tools
Please note that the following is highly experimental and if you consider to use the following "workaround" it is TOTALLY AT YOUR OWN RISK and i can not be held responsible for damages caused to your hardware or to yourself!!!!!
I had the same issue 2 times till now, what i made:
i took a USB cable (like the normal one i use for the wizard to connect it to the pc), cut off the mini usb jack. There are 4 wires in the cable we need the black one and the red one. The red goes to the + of the battery and the black goes to the - of the battery (on my battery the + and the - are marked), if on some batteries there are no marks for + and - you can use multi zet tool to check. The next thing is to put the cable in a free usb on the pc and the wires on the battery. Its quite difficult to find out the right place and position for charging the battery this way - but you actually need to charge it this way not more than 5-10 mins. Then you can boot normally and continue charging the "right" way. Use your old battery again. Thats all...
Regards

My prophet doesnt recognize the battery

my prophet cant recognize the battery ....i can turn on the device sometimes and when i go to seetings\battery\it's 0% i have alredy try other batteries that are fine in other devices ....i try to flash the rom but the update utility cant recognize the battey and dont let me flash it help please....
oh god i am so new and fresh...so many problems with my prophet help me guys

the device dosent have the right drivers for the prophet because the rom get an error while flashing
Have you flashed a ROM before?
If the battery is not working in your device, try checking the connections. There are no 'drivers' for the battery, I can flash a ROM in bootloader after flashing a ROM with nothing in it, which means that the RUU is using the hardware rather than software to determine the battery status.
i cant flash again the pro+het because the update utility verify the battery status and then give an error because the prophet doesnt have more than 50 of battery . . . help please
My prophet had the same issue in the past weeks.
I had to restart several times until the phone recognize the batery.
The issue is not only at the OS level because even with the phone turned off it was not able to charge (you can see because of the orange lid).
Sometimes the phone just stoped recognizing the batery and the charge value just stops decreasing.
My guess is that this is related to some ROM's i've been testing, have you switched ROM in the past weeks?
Last night i started using iProphet 1.0.2.3 (sounds familiar? l3v5y) and until now i'm not having problems. (Just appears to consume a lot of batery but ill confirm this in the next days).
The battery drain may be because of the camera. but you can remove it if you want. (it is an installed app)
I think the issue is to do with the hardware, and so upgrading the software will not help. If your charging circuit is damaged, the battery will not be detected. If the device is under warranty, I would suggest getting it repaired...
I've just been looking at the Universal Wiki and I may have a solution:
Solution 3: Recalibrate the battery (2)
Charge the battery overnight with the supplied poweradapter, not with the USB cable
Drain the battery without SD-card, powersaving off and backlight on full
At some level, the device will turn off. Switch it on and go to the bootloader and drain the battery until it's really empty
Charge the battery again with the supplied poweradapter
The idea of this is to completely discharge and then recharge the battery, so that the battery status monitoring system in the battery is reset.
I had a same prob, tested with new battery problem continues...
also help needed over here
Hi All,
After installing Prophet_G3_G4_RadioRom_v2.69.21.exe onto my QTEK S200 it's completely dead. I cannot start it up anymore, even with the battery connected to power. The orange charging light doesn't even go on. I don't get anything here, no QTEK screen, no boot, no nothing even after pressing the button for several seconds.
Anybody knows what happened? Is my battery dead? When I connect the QTEK to the power supply without the battery inserted, the light flashes red for a short second and then... nothing... The battery was almost fully charged when I started the upgrade. IPL was at 2.20.
euh... help!!!
I've already opened a thread for this but anyway... help help
I'm afraid i cannot help you much...
When that happend to me i just made several resets and tryed to start charging until it worked.
After that i've changed the ROM i was using and my batery seems to work better now. Sometimes if i overclock it stop's getting the correct batery values but never stop charging like it used to.
Try charging with diferent methods, a couple of times i was trying to charge with the standart (power line) cable and only worked if i used usb connected to my pc. Maybe a different voltage worked... i'm not sure.
Best of luck
Hi mate...

Stuck in bootloader PLUS USB won't connect to ActiveSync! :(

Hey guys...I recently upgraded my SDA to WM6 without any problems using Kar Hoe's guide. The only thing I noticed was that I couldn't connect to the internet via GPRS/EDGE (only WIFI). So I found a radio ROM last night and forgot to format BINFS before I installed it. It said it was successful of course but now I'm stuck in the bootloader. Here's the horrible part: The phone goes in USB mode for the bootloader, but won't connect to ActiveSync so I can't reflash it or anything! I really liked this phone and can't really afford another one at this time. I'd appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks. I'll be working until 5 but will check back after that!
p.s.: When I installed WM6 previously, I DID app unlock it and make it SuperCID.

try mtty and and kar hoe`s guide
to Profy_X
Thanks for the quick response! I've downloaded mtty (similar to Tera Term huh?). Is it possible to copy the ROM image to the mini SD card in order to flash it? I have the original one for my phone and I tried copying the NBF file to the card via a card reader I have by Vakoss but windows won't recognize it. (due to its format right?)
I know I have too many questions but I need my phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
Thanks again!
I have the same problem and really looking for a solution.
The phone enters bootloader mode after pressing the camera button and inserting the usb cable. However activesync or anything else does not recognize the device. mtty and teraterm cannot connect to the device.
When I hard reset or turn off/on the phone, it keeps resetting itself after a couple seconds of booting.
Any ideas what I can try?
I fixed it...
I tried everything! I ended up extracting this fileTor_TMOUS_10140_191916_10900_SHIP.exe with winrar and running the RomUpdateUtility. Even though ActiveSync wasn't working I went through with it. It randomly worked though! So then I just followed Kar Hoe's guide for installing wm6. Now the only thing is that it will turn off randomly unless it's plugged in. And it's not the battery though. lol 0_o
To Burkay: If mtty or teraterm can't recognize your phone then the only thing you can do is copy the original ROM to your memory card and then flash it directly from the phone through bootloader....or at least that's the only way I can see since USB's out.
After an unsuccessful rom flash, phone always stuck to bootloader screen, it happened 2 or 3 times on my phone. In these cases ActiveSync couldnot recognized my phone (thru USB). But I always successfully reflash my phone just running RomUpdateUtility connecting thru USB. How come so complex in your cases, I just wonder

Well...It might just be my battery after all (current surge or something). Because I tried 2 different wm6.1 roms and now am using Nitro's wm6 rom, and the same thing would happen on all of them (but less on Nitro's). It looks like if I do something demanding then it turns off after a minute or so. And there's no warning at all. It seems to try to turn back on, but fails. After that, the only way to start it is if I plug in the charger.
I'm going to order another battery from ebay and we'll see what happens I guess.
I hope it works!
@unforsakenrule: When i flashed, normally it takes hardly 10min, how your battery discharge so quickly. I tried most of rom found here now I stick to Kamikadze's 6.1 pro, it is quite cool and I don't want to back to STD.
Sometimes, flashing did not success and I tried again but I am always sure to be fully charged before start. If it stuck in bootloader charging is not easy. I sometimes use some crude method on my other phone, just connecting terminals of charger to battery directly using some wires, but it is really dangerous

That's pretty hardcore man! I'll try that ROM out and see what happens. In the meantime, I'm still waiting for a battery I bout on ebay. Thanks!
I received my new battery today~
No more problems since I got my new battery. The old one was a Sanyo and apparently had issues. The new one's a Celxpert. I'm now running wm6.1 Pro and it IS tight. Thanks for your responses guys!

[Q] MAGLDR: Lack of USB battery Charge or Bootloader USB connection Fail?

Hi,
do you have the following problem?
Has your battery stopped charging by usb?
CAN access SD card from MAGLDR via USB to transfer files between computer and phone?
CANNOT access SD card from android via USB to transfer files between computer and phone?
CAN install roms via magldr?
The boot-loader screen only shows serial but Fails to connect via USB? as a consequence you cannot remove magldr or even update it
wondering why only magldr has access to USB?
please join me in a pursuit to find a solution and if you have it please share it with us
I use HTC HD2 LEO 1024, i have been forced to buy an external battery charger, my phone has magldr 1.11, my wive's is magldr 1.13 and both of them cannot charge via usb.
I found something related but didnt offer a solution since the uSB connection problem happened after upgrading to a new magldr
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905570
To answer some questions about battery charging whilst flashing in MAGDLR etc...
If you're anything like me, new to Android flashing and got into MAGLDR and CWM like a kid with a new toy... You may have completely knacked out your battery!
I've just bought an HTC HD2 and done just that!
This did my nut for approx 12 hrs lol, yeah it ran plugged in but everytime I took power cord or USB out it popped it's coggs! This concerned me in several ways, as I've been flashing for years and always heard flashing with lower than 50% battery was a VERY bad thing to do, so I was very hesitant in doing this, also there seemed no way to charge as every time I connected the charger it would reboot into MAGDLR 1.13.
With more read up on Hard SPL I thought it more likely it would be OK to screw about as from what I've read it's VERY VERY hard to brick an HD2.... BTW yeah I read all you experts 'READ' posts but none of you actually said it in 'plain English'!!
If your battery runs out whilst screwing about installing different Android builds and/Or playing with MAGLDR and CWM bits and bobs then don't worry.
Connect to comp, then goto the Rainbow screen (reboot with Vol Down button held down)
Find install of MAGDLR 1.10 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893618) - install using RUU in the download.
When your phone reboots it will boot into MAGDLR 1.10, GOTO PowerDown, (last on list.) Power down and your phone will start to charge!! - Hallelujah!!!
Once you have full battery charge, reinstall latest MAGLDR 1.13 atm, and in future be quicker installing your Android OS LOL!! xx
Hope helps some people, if i'd had this post here I would have saved a LOT of time lmao!
D.
Thanks a lot! This saved me having to go and purchase a docking station to charge my HD2.
Thats what i get for attempting to change my ROM with 10% battery!!!!
WONT DO THAT AGAIN!!!!!
