i want to sell my hermes - General Topics

hello everyone...
after 12 months of using my T-Mobile MDA Vario II (hermes) i got an offer for the new kaiser.
as i don't have any other use for my phone i want to give it to someone else. sure, i could keep it, but the only effect would be a change of the color because of the heavy dust-layer covering it after a few months
i thought about selling it on ebay, but as this forum helped me so much, and i just like this community, i wanted to know if anyone is interested in it here.
you know all those technical things about this phone, so i will just describe the differences.
currently a cooked rom from shaps is running on my phone, but i don't remember which release beceause after flashing shaps it just worked so fine for me, i never thought about flashing again
i also flashed the spl&ipl and the radio several times, so i just don't know about their versions either.
uhm... yes. it has some major scratches and damages all over it, so it doesn't look so good anymore, i would like to post some pictures here, but at the moment i can't find my camera i hope i can upload some photos after weekend, so you can see those "injuries".
but nothing is broken, just scratches and a bit of the color on the top buttons (messagin & web'n'walk) is mmissing.
i'll just post the pics in a few days.
technically the phone is absolutely intact. no scratches on the display, all pixels on the display are working, and all buttons too.
the charger is working, the charging port is working.
one other thing to mention is the headset, because i modified it so i can plug in any earphones i like to. so its basically the same headset, but instead of the hard-wired earphones a 3,5mm audioplug is coming out of the microphone-volume_adjustment-headset-box...
uhm...
what else to say... if anyone would like to have it, i would send it with all the stuff i got from tmobile, so i will ship it with the original packagin and everything that was inside.
some other important thing: i live in germany, but can ship everywhere, we just have to talk about postage.
so, that's it.
i would prefer if you would send me a mail, but pms and thread responses are also good
i hope i can give it away here, cause i really liked this phone and don't want to give to just "anyone" on ebay...
greetings
garfield

Should i buy into the XDAII or not ?

HI
Looking for some input from users of the XDAII.
I have been reading these forums for a while now and i see lots and LOTS of problems with the XDAII. Specifically it seems to be flaky as a phone ...go figure.....
So what i am wondering is if you had your time over would you buy into the XDAII again or give it a miss based on your user experience?
Primarily i need GPS navigation around U.K (as an Aussie who has only been here a few months i find the road signs and directions on signs confusing to say the least...lets not even get into some of the stupid junctions and the way they are set up...). The phone part is nice and is of course why i am considering it over an Ipaq. However whats the point of an XDAII if the phone is flaky ? i need reliable comms on the road not excuses ..or lost data on the SD card...or blue tooth problems etc etc....
Having said all that i still really want one but i am just worried about all the niggly problems i will in all likely hood have to deal with and frankly who needs more s*** in their life then the boss/wife/kids/lover/s already give us ;-) ( i'm talking about you guys there not me , i only flirt with my computer )
So i am stuck right now between the XDAII or an Ipaq........perhaps the Ipaq and my trusty 6310i is the way to go......but the idea of a phone wrapped into the pda is SO so appealing......
ah , decisions decisions.....
anyone got any words of wisdom ?
Thanks for your input
Regards
Mark
I'll always choose XDA II hands-down over Ipaq and 6310i. Bluetooth for the in the latest ROM update is fixed. I've had my XDA for 3 months now and I have no regrets...Well, maybe when XDA III comes out probably
I was pondering this same question just yesterday, wondering whether I was happy with my XDA2 when I see so many people in these forums with problems.
The truth is that it's still a superb machine. These forums will always be full of the users who have problems and questions - that's why this forum exists. The phone isn't flaky at all, IMHO. I've never had a problem, and everything works as well as I would expect, including my (original, never-upgraded) ROM and Bluetooth stuff.
But then I've never tried GPS, and this seems to be the cause of a lot of problems for people.
A small vocal minority of people will never be happy with their XDA2 because it isn't perfect in their definition. The posts of those people might give the impression that the XDA2 is fundamentally flawed, which IMHO it isn't at all. It's not perfect, but then nobody who complains has ever proposed an alternative that is.
All devices have their faults and weaknesses. The XDA2 has far fewer than anything else I've ever used. Go for it!
also people without issues dont really write that many thread
looking for asnwers as to why they dont have issues and what they
are to do to change that
Integrated Wi-Fi and blue tooth on the 6300 and it'll most likely be cheaper for U.S. customers who don't want a plan, it's an easy decision for me.
Hi
yeah i'm on the fence with this one. When i read a problem post i decide to give it a miss. then i read someone who say they have such joy with this unit and i think yeah i'm going for it.
i do this evryday. result ...a monh later i dont have anything !!!
so i reckon a lot of you are right, its probaly screwy software that messes up the phone.
I'm going for it !!!
Now watch all my frantic posts ...Help BT not working, my phone talks to me after midnight , ...my XDAII has a crush on me and wont stop stalking me etc
Thanks for the opininons
Best Regards and you'll be hearing from me soon heheheehe

Well, good luck! If I had a choice, I wouldn't go with O2 again. While the XDA2 may be good, I have been distinctly unimpressed with O2, having come from Orange.
If you can (and I'm not sure when Orange are to release their M1000) go for a non-O2 XDA2, or get an unlocked one.
Let us know how you get on.
i just gotten my 2020 after being without my xda1 since it were stolen i'm happy with it
though i think that people should know that a xda1 and 2 are much closer to the pc world then cellphone world
also i feel that palm is more of a PDA and pocketpc's are more well
pc's which fit the pocket
this mean that the user have to be more active making it spin
and also that the user have more power to mess up the device

very well said. i think the issue with the XDA2 is either people are too tech-oriented and want to make the XDA2 do amazing things (which it can, but of course we cant claim that it was designed to do EVERYTHING) or the noobs who tinker with it and end up messing up, then blaming the manufacturers, software, etc. etc.
But if you're a normal user. . . out of the box, the XDAII in GENERAL is a sublime piece of hardware.

Suggestions please for XDA

Hi
Please suggest a XDA for me . I am 100 miles from nearest shop to see and try XDA's
I have had the o2 XDA Mini S (wizard ) for a year now and I hardly ever use it.
Its simply too bulky and heavy to carry round with me all day. I had hoped that the bigger screen size than my Nokia 6600 would make it easier to use as I need reading glasses now to see anything. Unfortunately the text sizes on the wizard are minute and I find simple jobs like taking a series of pictures and storing them very fiddly and ill-logical . You have to use the pen .
Making calls is straightforward enough but texts are... well I have never sent one cos I cannot work out how to send one. The same goes for sending picture messages on this thing its reallly hard work.?
What I need is this
Large screen
Large text size option for making receiving calls
built in simple to use camera
No slide-out keyboard (too bulky)
Must be thin and light enough to carry in shirt breast pocket.
Bluetooth and 3G
Can anyone suggest an XDA they have used even an old out of date model It doesn't have to be current just simple to use
i doubt such a device exists,
a large screen makes for a large device, but VGA is the biggest screen resolution and size, but, they are all BIG devices with keyboards.
you can change the text size on the wizard but it doesn't change the size in the start menu or file explorer or program/system menus - there may be a registry setting though, i don't know.
i assume all the cameras will be the same to operate with wm.
for no keyboard and small and lightweight you'll need to check something like the xda orbit (i forget the htc name) but that's almost the same as the mini s (htc wizard) except without the keyboard. and with a 2mp camera.
nearly all phones have bluetooth now, but being 100miles from a phone shop will you even have 3g access/coverage.
you could look at 'smart phones' instead of 'ppc phones'
looking at your other posts
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=1302479
esp the flame, it seems you'd be better off with a normal phone not a ppc where you need to set it up how you would like to use it, that's the whole point, i doubt any two users are on exactly the same setup. On my phone sending a text takes TWO keystrokes (excluding message, unless i predefine it) from start to finish, I've never had another phone that would do that
I just noticed you live in merriott, which is 12 miles from Yeovil, where you nearest o2 (or any phone) shop is.
i also live nearby and there is no 3g coverage in this area
Hi thanks for your response.
yes I seem to remember a similar XDA mini s which did not have the pull out keypad but frankly it will still run winmobile5 and be an absolute pig to use like the wizard is.
yes there are phone shops in Taunton and Yeovil but none with xda's there.I reckon the nearest shop with a decent selection is going to be Bristol or Exeter 100 miles return groan
I have trawled through 100s of smart phones but don't like any of them to be honest. The screen sizes are too small for me to see the text (The 6600 is just about big enough at 2" )
All the modern phones all look the same bland black and boring with far too many features and a tiny screen. Have you seen the LG Shine ? it looks to be the most promising at the moment
Although the 6600 is a brick it is the easiest most intuitive phone I have ever used Everything you want id just a single click away just wish it was available half the thickness and weight.
I had looked previously at the o2 XDA 11i . It has a camera and large screen presumably you can adjust the text size and it doesn't look as big as the XDA mini s
You do know that HTC devices all run windows mobile?
Why do you even ask for advice on a new xda if you hate so much about them, and if you hardly ever use your wizard, will you use any other ppc more?
Yeovil has the same phone shops as any other place (I was in Bristol on Thursday and Yeovil every week) if you are buying on a contract, o2 selling xdas, t-mob & mdas, orange & spvs, vodafone, carphone warehouse, phones4u...
why don't you just get a tiny 2mp camera off eBay and a nokia 3300 or whatever they're called nowadays...
wow how unlucky was I to get a tosser like you eh I could have got anybody else and I got you.
If you can't be bothered to be civil don't bother to offer help is my advice
pleasant fella aren't you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=269623 maybe you could have got a reply like in this thread again.
what are you even taking offence from?
lets recap,
you want an xda but not wm os
you want a big screen but not a big device
you want 3g but live in an area with no coverage...
you want a flying pig?
why are you wanting a ppc phone???
I thought I was being polite.
I suppose I expected intelligence but rarely see any on here. I had forgotten the last flaming. Seems like the only peeps on here are unemployed disgruntled kids who think the world owes them a living and spend all day flaming everyone else or keying cars.
I said the wizard is too heavy and too bulky to carry round with me all day. Read my post !..
The wizard has a lot of faults just count the number of posts over the last 12 months and see what percentage are happy users .
I didn't say I didn't want m5 os I just said I don't need it . My car's top speed is 172 and I don't use that either !....
I need a large screen for easy visibility mobile screens are too small.thats the main reason why I am considering an xda for the screen size. I said this already
It doesn't have to have 3g but as I travel 150 miles a day at work over 4 counties it would be useful.I don't need 3g at home why would I ?
I am going to de-register as a member and will not be seeing this thread or site again so all you idiots out there that feel like flaming again it will only you reading it (if you can read) ha ha

Im Buying a new device suggestions anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok price is not an opition as long a its below 600 us dollars.
Im am looking at buying one of these:
HTC Advantage x7501
HTC Kaiser(the one with video calling)
XDA Flame (maybe)
Right now i want a device with at least 400mhz or higher and some kind of video chip. So kaiser is a maybe because of the acceleration driver missing and VGA, 3G, and GPS is a plus
If you have other devices even if old please post suggestions.
I have a HTC wizard and typhoon so i need to update to a faster and newer looking device
Thanks
Thanks everyone for your help use this thread for device discussion if you wish or mods delete
My son has a Kaiser, Awesome. The GPS works great with TOMTOM
I personal use the Kaiser, (AT&T's version) I don't mind it because I don't even watch videos on mine, so the driver don't really matter to me, and I love it.
My girlfriends use the Touch Dual, I really like the form factor, and for some reason, the touch screen feels more solid. It's a hard plastic piece. The only thing is that its missing WiFi.
GPS is a must, not for directions, but I love for Windows Live Search, Turn-by-Turn directions is not so great even with third party software. I believe my car's GPS is alot faster and accurate.
thanks im looking to buying then a kaiser even a att one if i dont find a cheaper one with the camera in the front.(i just want to stand out from the rest)
for the x7500 i lost my chance to get it for less then 600 and only see x7501 above 700
the flame does not have gps
but started to look at the i-mate spl looks cool but limited
i will sell you my kaiser if you want a cheaper one? its slightly marked but i can forward some pics if you like.will do it for £200 (about $400) its not locked at the min but i will get it unlocked for you before i ship it. I live in the UK but i assume that it will work over there. Let me know what you think
i'd suggest the HTC Touch Cruise very nice phone. not sure about WiFi, but has a 3 megapixel camer, GPS & 3G

pics would be nice just how would payment go(paypal)
The HTC Touch Cruise has wifi but i cant find one on ebay for less, but here they dont get them until feb 1st http://www.mobileplanet.com/d.aspx?i=159609
aye paypal would be be the best way. i will take some pics now, can you pm me your email address for me to send them to you?
got to go to school will check later my email
ok. i have emailed you all the pics
i am looking at a new phone too. I want to be able to move up to the sdhc standard, so I can put video on it.
I was eyeing the cruise, but there is something going on with the cruise. They keep pushing back the dates. Does this have something to do with the video driver and video playback on the kaiser?
I had the utmost faith on the xda forums gods....but now i have seen a 4k bounty to someone who can fix it, and the class action lawsuit post. I hate to say this, but shoot htc didn't even support wm5 on my ba, i have little faith they will fix the kaiser for the above issues...unless that is what is causing the delay of the cruiser.
Should i look at competitors? who are they? i found the eten glofish, are there others?
well i put my Kaiser on ebay now. but the deal still stands, if one you guys on here wants it then can have it for £200

touch cruise unboxing

Can anyone point me in the right direction for an unboxing movie.... or list the box contence.
Mine is coming on Monday but I just can’t wait.
To be entirely honest I still can't believe that "apparently many people SAY" they have one and yet I can't find an unboxing video for it.
http://www.msmobilenews.com/windows-mobile/reviews/htc-touch-cruise-review.html
There seems to be an unboxing but this (I’m hoping) is the demo pre-release version I’m guessing the massive tell - tell sign being the hole on the back.
I've recorded my box on video. It's being processed by YouTube right now, title "HTC Touch Cruise Unboxing". It was taken with my own TC, two things to note: it's obviously the unboxing "preview" you wanted, and you can also see the awful frame rate on this thing...
Oh yeah, never mind what I'm saying, just blabbering
It’s alright mate, thanks. its much appreciated.
btw can you quickly list the contense of the actually retail unboxing? And if possible the link to your you tube video?
Thank you.
YouTube video just in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuM_-yalUpo
It's actually just a preview of the box, not so much to see.
Contents:
The HTC Touch Cruise itself
Good manual
Screen protector
Small pouch + extra stylus
Battery
Charger
USB Cable
2 CD's (1 for extra software like TomTom, 1 for drivers and Windows moblie and such (I guess, didn't check really))
Quick Start guide
Some extra flyers (some from HTC, TomTom, local resellers)
I think that pretty much sums it up
Ok cool, thank you so much. if u were a woman and in front of me I would have no problems in hugging you with glee lol.
I was really just hooked about the case, well more like slightly worried as all the other touch devices have a case of some sort.
Anyway if it is not too much trouble is the case like the one from the first touch or the one from the touch dual.
Once again, Thank you.
I’ve just seen it. Thank you so much it was only 44 seconds but now I REALLY can't wait until Monday.
I have no clue whether it resembles the Touch (Dual) boxes.
You're welcome, and I'm NOT a woman, so a pat on the shoulder should suffice
I understand how it feels having to wait for the ultimate package Been there lately
Trust me, it's worth waiting for, especially if HTC is going to release the GPU drivers, then the speed thing would be solved too...
lol well a pat it is then...
ive had to put up with the eten glofiish x800 it s was OK and that about it. good screen.
i meant case as in its protective pouch btw but ive seen a few pics now. unless the one i saw was an after market one.
anyway thank you so much you've provided a real service
really have made my day
once again thanks.
You're welcome. The pouch is nothing compared to what you see online, its just a bag with a strap at the top to close it, like a garbage bag, but then smaller, containing your TC and in soft tissue
Sorry to hear bout the X800, I wonder where everyone gets the money to buy *multiple* pda's... (and phone and gps i know )
Meh. Well the x800 was a bit on an experiment for the IT department I work in. unheard of going for something so untested but someone has got to test it. I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes that made them say "I want my employees to work with sheer crap" but it happened, anyway I'm giving it back soon, like I said it was ok, a bit like paper, you use it every day but you never truly take any notice of it.
Ye as I suspected the one I saw was an aftermarket one, looks like HTC just took it off the touch dual. It’s slightly disappointing I was looking to have a rubberized case like the one from the touch.
Yeah, unfortunately, the TC comes shipped with a very limited set of accesoiries, in contrast with previous devices, for that price!!

You’re absolutely right and it’s appalling.
I know it’s a really good device but I still feel like for my money there should be more production value.
Oh and Tracy and matt's blog has now got an unboxing of the pre-release version... it seems funny that it only comes out now as people are receiving their devices.

About to buy a used one. What to check ?

Hi,
After some research I decided to buy gtablet. It will be my first android so I don't know much about it. (I'm aware that I need to learn about rooting etc after purchasing)
In about an hour, I will be buying one and I'm several thousands away from home so I have to check it well before buying.
What should I check other than the obvious tests ?
Is there any software that checks internal components ?
Or any program suggestions to run ? (For example if skype is installed I can test wi-fi, speakers and microphone at the same time).
thanks alot.
best.
honestly...i was about to buy a used one too last week...and then the price of a new one just keeps dropping and making it not worth it to buy it used...unless you are getting some kind of amazing deal. (like less than 200 dollars)
woot just had it for 255.. tigerdirect had them for 260 recently... i think the peace of mind is worth it for the extra 50 bucks...but i dont know your income ..
I second that. If its under 200 or comes with sweet accessories buy used. If not, save and buy new.
Make sure it has had a screen protector on the the whole time and that the power plug and audio plug work. Biggest issues so far have been broken power ports and headphone jacks.
As far as rooting goes, you don't really need to. All the roms here are stock rooted and if you follow the update.zip method of installing a rom or clockwork mod from stock you will be fine. Oh, and make sure you check what bootloader you are on before flashing a rom. Just read and read some more, tons of us are here to help when you got questions
Thanks for the replies, I agree your comments.
In my case the machine was not used and with a warranty so I purchased it.
