What's up with G3 or G4??? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Okay guys,
I don't understand... I have a Wizard and I've been busting my head getting all the info and programs + roms and apps to upgrade my wizard to TNT Vanilla (with WM6.1).
This is the story, my wizard is ipl/spl 2.26. I currently have TNT 19199 / WM6 with radio 2.19... Works great! But get this, it's a G3 wizard!!!
Now as I was going through the screenshot tutorial to upgrade the wizard and I saw when I ran the wizard service tool, my pda was G3... So what do I do now??? Is it possible to upgrade my phone to a G4? some people said it was impossible to get wm6 on my phone, but I have it along with the tnt 19199...
I don't know if I should go ahead with anything until I find a solution. Help me out here guys.
Phil

G3 is great, you can flash any rom. G4, you couldn't flash if there was a radio or spl included. G4 is not an upgrade of a G3 and in fact is more likely especially with older roms to brick your phone.

I have a g3. and have been flashing every rom there is. it is more of a hassel to deal with g4. consider your sell lucky.

G3 and G4 is difference of DoC chip, that is a hardware difference and not changeable through software.
G3 devices can be CID-unlocked to accept any ROMs by just using unmodified RUU package.
For G4 devices, CID unlock is not possible, however you can use HardSPL to let the device accept ROMs not for your CID, as soon as the ROM does not contain IPL and SPL.

Well, you already are on wm6 with TNT 19199,why can't you upgrade to wm 6.1,yes!you can.
G3 device is much easier to upgrade than G4,count yourself lucky there
Vanilla Rom is just a plain rom without any Applications/programs or very few of them, its basically provided for cookers who want to cook their own roms with applications/programs of their choice, but it can be flashed to any device.

YeaH, BUT...?
That's just it!
You're all telling me it's ok to flash and ok to set new roms on my G3...
What I do not understand is why in the "Wizard Upgrade Guide and Tools-DCH" it's written that this upgrade is only for G4 phones only! Furthermore, I do not want to brick my phone either!
Maybe it's for this type of upgrade only...? In this case can one of you guys give me a link to upgrade that works???
Once I get the ok from you guys, I'll try to upgrade the TNT 19213 Pro or moderate edition. Seems like Vanilla really has nothing else than the basics...
Phil
P.s.- By the way, I keep on reading about UC included in these roms... That's a good thing right? I wonder exactly how it works...

When once you have already upgraded to wm6 TNT 19199 custom rom,did you get any problems, did your phone got Bricked, whats the problem now ?
I don't understand what exactly you are asking ?
Which "Wizard Upgrade Guide and Tools-DCH" you are referring to,in which its written that this rom is for G4 devices only ? Just take my words, there's no such specific G4 rom only, all the custom build wm6 or wm6.1 roms are build for both the devices,G3 and G4,coz they do not have IPL/SPL included in them, only those roms which have G3 IPL/SPL included in them are dangerous for G4 phones, even all the official Stock roms have IPL/SPL in it for both the devices,it can be flashed to either of the versions without any danger, Yes! if any rom which only have G3 IPL/SPL flashed to a G4 phone will Brick it ,or a Rom with specific G4 IPL/SPL,if flashed to a G3 will Brick it also. But those are all old Roms,Now all the latest custom build Roms are build without any IPL/SPL in them, they all are absolutely confirmed safe for both the devices,ok

oh my friend, I am sorry about that, I wrote that particular guide, and the instructions in the guide itself is only for G4 devices, the ROM that I mention in the guide and in the screenshots is just for example, it CAN be flashed to a G3. My particular device is a G4, so I wrote that guide from a G4 perspective. Sorry for the confusion!

ashasaur
Yeah ! right, thats nice of you to clarify the confusion, but I'll suggest,if you have not already rectified your guide, its better you rectify and clarify it in there too,so to avoid any further confusion and also clearly warn that its for G4 devices.
Cphil1
You shud have read the guide correctly,if you had, there wudn't be this confusion,Thats why its been emphasized over and again through the Forum,to read n read the guides to fully understand and only than proceed further, its for your own benefit.
Have a nice day !

That was weird!!! No Upgrade!
Hey guys,
The craziest thing just happened... I went through all the steps, upgraded the pda. I saw the status bar and the rom completed it's upgrade!
Then my phone turns back on and it's my old TNT rom...? So no upgrade at all! What happened? Did I miss a step?

sounds like your CID locked?
Try flashing the old button rom 1st then your carriers then the new rom. After which for new roms flash your carrier rom then any new rom. I find the amp 2.0 rom to be better then the tnt as in less buggy.

I bet you were using ShellTool when you upgrade to the old TNT ROM.
Now flash your original carrier ROM, then download IPL and SPL using button's ROM and perform full CID unlocking, then you can flash any ROM as you wish.
p.s. DON'T try to upgrade your IPL/SPL to 3.08 before full CID-unlocked!

Alright!
Okay guys,
I just got the update to work... It was simply that I ran the rom update setup from the tnt 19213 file.
The cut and paste indicated on the "Wizard Upgrade Guide and Tools-DCH" didn't work. Bottom line, I now have the new tnt Professional rom (No Touchflo!) on my phone with wm6.1! Now I'm very happy and very grateful
I also got pim backup to restore all my files and contacts. Great little tool! Now I have to start customizing it with all the nitty gritty...
I'm looking forward to some advice on stuff to add onto this rom. I'm more of a graphic and games fanatic, so I went along and downloaded the vanilla fun pack.
By the way, does anyone know how to add color to the clock and icons display on the home screen? It's a bit bland all in white...

Wizard rom on Prophet

Hi all
Is it possible to use a wizard rom on a Prophet ?
I want a Danish rom for my Prophet, and it is impossible to get.
For the wizard there is several Danish rom here.
The processor and most hardware should be the same on those two devices (exept keyboard of course), so why don't use a Wizard rom on a Prophet.
If it is impossible to do this, can I edit the rom in a Prophet and make the translation my self in the rom ? Is there anybody that can guide me in the right direction ?
Best regards
Kina500
DO NOT Try this, you might BRICK your device.....
Hardware are same to some degree but not exactly..
Hi again
Is there somebody who can guideline me translate the english firmware ?

Kina500
Hi,
After some searching i got a little experience in upgrading my Neo by reading/following the tutorial by Risidoro in Wizard Forum.
(U can search for--'How-to install any 2.x ROM in a CID-Locked G3 or G4 Wizard.')
With this info/tools i tryied many combination of OS,GSM,EXTRom,HTC and Splash except ipl/spl (as of now i dont want to touch and stuck in it and even i dont know whether my Neo is unlocked or not. my ipl/spl: 2.15.0001) successfully.
I suggest every confusing newbee to follow that tutorial and do upgrade but do not touch ipl/spl they dont want a brick.
At present im happy with Jesterz-r1 rom, however i exluded spl part from his rom.
To top the enthu, i decided to install the Wizard Rom on my Prophet, i just use Risidoro's RUU_RIsidoro_2.26.10.2_WWE+CF2SP1_G4.exe for Wizard and excluded ipl/spl as usual, reform nk.nbf file and used Prophet's RUU
to flash this rom. It completed full installation successfully, device restarted successfully up to HTC logo and after that Bootloader started and could not proceed further.
It was sad to come back to Jesterz-r1 rom now again.
Failure might be because of conflict btwn my maintained ipl/spl(2.15.0001) with OS rom of Wizard
Im guessing it,
as HTC Logo appeared due to ipl
and spl could not proceed( may be wizard os rom require higher spl)
Whetever happen, it was a enjoying process.May someone get success in future.

Help Upgrading my M5000 to WM6

I am a new owner of SPV M5000..It is my first time upgrading my unit and I have decided to use Jwrightmcps Crossbow ROM Update 2.02.02 WWE rom because it is receiving lots of positive feedbacks..I have already downloaded the rom for M5000..What should I do next?Do I just need to click the .exe file or what?Or if there is any other rom that you could recommend, tell me please...
WM5 or WM6?
Thanks a lot guys
it depends on what do you want to do with your device.
if you need a very stable ROM, and a Wifi, Email, Bluetooth etc. working, then you should upgrade to the last version of WM5. for this you must go in the "Universal Upgrading" forum.
WM6 is much faster, but sometimes there are problems with bluetooth handsfree, and with the wifi (you cannot access some specific pages, but you can access other) and with others.
whatever you choose, keep in mind that upgrading your SPV can be dangerous if you don't fallow all the steps.
First of all, be patient and read the Wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/. A lot of things are explained there.
After that, read as much threads as possible. Always read the threads of the ROMs you want to install. you will find out all the potential problems with the ROMs and you might decide to use a different ROM.
Keep in mind that you will loose the waranty of the device by performing an ROM upgrade.
1
the first thing you must do, is to upgrade the bootloader.
for this, go here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Bootloader
2
the second thing you must do, is to unlock your device. in this way you will be able to use different SIM cards, not only Orange ones. you will be able to use T-Mobile, O2 etc.
it is important to remove your SIM Lock before going any furthere.
for this you must go here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Uni_Simlock_by_Buzz_and_team
3
after the SIM unlock, you will have a Radio version 0.00.00
you need to upgrade your Radio. the latest Radio is 1.15.00
for this you must go here:http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=UNI_Radio
you can download the Radio from here: http://rs45.rapidshare.com/files/21256271/11500_Radio_only.rar
4
with your new radio 1.15.00 you must upgrade the bootloader again.
so again go here and repeat all the steps: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Bootloader
5
now you can upgrade the ROM. to do that, download what ROM you prefere and then go here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Uni_ROM_Upgrade
i advice you not to hurry and upgrade your M5000. spend more time on the forum, read the whole Wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/ and learn more about your device. probably you still don't know how to enter in bootloader, how to hardreset your device, what to do if you get stucked in bootloader mode etc.
meny people brick their devices. for example, if you unplug your device during ROM upgrading, you will no longer be able to use the device. it will be gone for ever.
don't hurry to upgrade. there are meny meny things to find out about your M5000.
good luck !!!
thanks
I just did the upgrade without upgrading my BL and radio version..Everything went fine...I am a happy user now of WM6 on my M5000..
Thanks a lot

After the HardSPL...

Ok after doing all that was told to do to flash a G4 (which I did sucessfully) It does now show the SPL to be 2.21.olip.
At the end of the instructions says:
"After it is complete, your device will automatically reboot. The IPL version will be 2.21.0001 and the SPL will be 2.21.olip. If you see this then HardSPL was successfully flashed to your device.
Now you have HardSPL. You can flash any ROM using the RUU provided in the ROM package, should you have trouble with upgrading, try Mun's RUU."
I flashed my G4 Wizard with the new Diamond "clean" version. I think I want more bells and whisles; Question is...Do I have to do everything all over again or can I just flash with a new rom to a better OS?
I did try to flash to the Hyperdragon 6.1 and the SNN Diamond but, I think the OS I just flashed is too new to reflash to the others (error 264). (maybe I just answered my own question) But the HardSPL IS in there.
Someone please tell me what you think.
Thanks you!
Kim
Depending on my own experience you don't need to do hard SPL all over again. all you need to do is to do a good hard reset and try to update with nice and slow steps
i had a G4 before my current G3 and i know wht i'm telling you
just care to review these steps
- 50% battery or more (100% recommended)
this is a must .. cant flash without this condition
- laptop or pc with ups (you dont want to brick ur device cause electricity was out!) or you can risk and update on power supply
- use faria RUUs (they are the best) they can be used with any rom.
- connect the wizard to the pc after the hard reset (dont forget to backup) and follow the on screen (wizard not pc) till u get working windows mobile device
- when asked for setting ur device .. click escape (as said ... this device is guest till it has the WM that i want!)
- finally try it's right rom it's G4 safe if you ask, you'll find its link in my signature, also i suggest using radio 2.19
- last hint .. never use a rom with IPL or SPL. they will brick ur device (it did to mine )
any more help?

Confused with Rom upgrade

I have upgraded roms on Tytn II and Touch Pro 2 with no problems. Trying to upgrade a G4 Wizard from WM5 to WM6.x and I am completely confused.
When I have downloaded G4 safe roms all that is in there is an nbf file. What am I supposed to be doing with that? Is it similar to a cab file and run from the device? Should I have more to install the rom upgrade?
All help appreciated.
just find RUU and flash it from PC... There are tutorials, soo READ IT
Yeah except that only the last rom we downloaded said to put an RUU in the same folder as the nbf file.
Like I said, I have upgraded roms on Tytn II's and a TP2. So Im not new to a rom upgrade. But thanks for your help.

[HSPL ROMS Spark_W] HSPL stock Verizon Trophy roms. [Updated 05-22-2012]

I took the stock roms for Verizon (NoDO v1, Mango v1 only so far) and simply recooked them to work when HSPL is installed. This was to provide an easier way to flash back to stock and rom ##DIAG and *228 for the time being while mwang works out the kinks in DFT Freedom for Verizon Trophy. This will also help since you won't need to flash OSPL to flash a stock rom!
THESE ROMS WILL NOT RETURN YOUR SPARK_W TO TRUE STOCK, YOU MUST USE STOCK ROMS IN FOOTBALLS THREAD FOR THAT!
Also refer to my HSPL thread for all details on returning your phone to true stock!
Read this for information on why YOU should avoid flashing official Verizon 8107 rom!
I stripped out the following from these roms:
SPL (if it were to flash with HSPL installed, you wouldn't like it one bit!)
RADIO (its easier to simply flash the radio you want from my radio thread).
Spanish language support (you only need the phone for programming and diag anyway, does this really matter?).
I will not modify these roms unless someone REALLLY wants Spanish support put back in. I will not add non-stock languages into the roms.
There are NO modifications to these roms other then what has been stated above. Only use these for diagnostic reasons!
Code:
NoDo v1 rom -
[URL="http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?a59z6n7evkpt6o9"][HSPL version - TheXev]RUU_Spark_W_VERIZON_WWE_1.03.605.22_RS0512_2K_4K_hybrid_new_partition_RELEASE.rar[/URL]
Mango v1 rom ([B]YOU MUST DOWNLOAD BOTH FILES TO EXTRACT SUCCESSFULLY![/B]) -
[URL="http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mdw8qpzlx91pe24"][HSPL version - TheXev]RUU_Spark_W_S_VERIZON_WWE_2.01.605.04_2K_new_partition_RELEASE.part1.rar[/URL]
[URL="http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mub65nddefvik7n"][HSPL version - TheXev]RUU_Spark_W_S_VERIZON_WWE_2.01.605.04_2K_new_partition_RELEASE.part2.rar[/URL]
The split Mango rom requires no special software to combine, simply use WinRAR to extract, and the parts will be joined automagically.
Thanks again TheXev!
I will also be adding the Mango v3 rom very soon(I don't see the point to the Mango v2 rom since there is hardly any changes between that at Mango v1). This rom uses the 8107 sys, and has updated drivers that may address SMS texting issues in CDMA mode with Unicode characters(there are some strange new registry settings relating to SMS that have appeared that I will document about here).
The biggest reason I will add this rom is because if you flash OSPL using DFT's tool (for stock rom return), and then flash official Mango v3, EVERY SINGLE TIME in my testing it half bricked my bootloader, even after flashing different roms with non 2.04 SPL's!? Only time it wouldn't half brick my bootloader was after using GoldCard method to fix my phone. I'll need to point this out to Cotulla...
In short, if you don't want to halfbrick your bootloader for now, DO NOT install official Verizon update to 8107 via Zune without HSPL [meaning, if you had HSPL installed and then reinstalled OSPL (I need to test this if the update is even out on Zune), and DO NOT FLASH OFFICIAL 8107 rom named RUU_Spark_W_S_VERIZON_WWE_2.04.605.02_Radio_NV_0215_NV58008_RELEASE. This rom is in football's rom thread and it is the official 8107 rom that I recently extracted a radio from in my radio thread.
Also because of this new official rom, you might expect me to write my own guide to GoldCard (the entire method, reasons for doing it, and all nhb model names, and "WHAT IS A GOLDCARD?!" lol). This guide might not end up on XDA, as I might write it on my own blog because of the sheer size and formatting I'd want to do.
If you don't want to wait to try the 8107 official rom, then simply update either of the roms I previously posted on Zune. If you have HSPL installed, it will prevent a new SPL from being flashed.
I don't know about the SMS fix yet, but it would appear that Spark_W/Verizon support for CMAS support was added. I didn't know anything about it, but its a neat read.
How would I get started cooking my Own ROM? Tango preferably? Can I modify one of Ansar's ROMs? Thanks!
I found this:Manual Kitchen am I going the right direction?

I recommend OSBuilder.. beyond recommending a kitchen.. I hope you have some high level Windows OS knowledge outside of Windows Phone before getting started... if not, I can tell you this isn't PPCKitchen... it isn't easy enough for anyone to use.
