OK, I love the WM6 rom, because it is nice. However, the camera is really really bad on the one I installed, can't adjust lightness/dark, and even night time mode is too dark indoors with lights on.
Please post which WM6 rom has at least a halfway decent camera??
I am also interested in a camera .CAB file, if anyone knows where I can get one. Otherwise I am stuck trying different rom after rom...to try and find a decent cam app.
dindn't try a lot of roms but in vjgrace's 3.7 camera is quite good imho...i don't think the poor 1.3 mp of tornado can do much more...as said in the other 3ad maybe you should try coolcamera if it works on sp5 wm6

Tested, and it works
I'm pretty sure that no software in the world can ever get the Tornado camera hardware to produce even remotely acceptable pictures.
I used it before with WM5, and it was a lil better then the WM6, this rom was made originally for a different hardware.
So, yes I am well aware of the hardware limitations but I did not know that UPgrading to WM6 was going to cause a DEgradation of the camera quality..because nobody warns about that. Then AFTER you install and notice it, you do a search and realize that it is common knowledge the camera sucks on WM6 on this phone.
I was the one posting how great WM6 is on this phone. Now I can't even make a call, when I try to it give and error. Apparantly I tweaked the settings and it was a tweak designed for a different phone...I got all kind weird stuff going on.
I see that rainbow colored battery thing...when I try to call...but I never installed lordsmitt's, or whatever it's called.
Now I am trying to find the clear storage in this thing go back to baseline and see how it goes....
As far as the camera, I have noticed you want to use the presets and not manually adjust the lightness cause it don't work at all.
I Absolutely agree , none of the new Roms have good cam old WM5 was atleast Ok with 1.3m hardware. Well with new added features in WM6 i think i can live without the cam. For good mobile cam one can always go for some nokia with good cam.

glad to see...I didn't tried it yet on tornado...any real improvement over wm6 rom's camera?
I have a Tilt and I have noticed no matter what Rom I have used, other than the stock ROM, the scroll wheel does not change camera function types. I am assuming this is due to Radio Roms. If it is a Radio Rom issue or not does anyone know of a fix?

I'm using Dutty's No.7B and I have no problem changing the camera mode using scroll wheel. Checkout this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349375
Using the latest non At&t roms require you to flash the radio, and, thus losing the scroll wheel capibility to change camera picture types. Are there any radios that will allow you to use the scroll wheel on the Tilt with HTC Roms. Hopefully, the great chefs out there will consider making Tilt roms to fix this issue. But, that means I will have to use the stock-shipped Radio Rom? "Sigh"....I need a Kaiser!

Just one point, I don't know where you got the idea that you could not use a non AT&T rom with a AT&T radio or when you flash a non AT&T rom you are forced to reflash the radio, you are wrong on both counts. you can use ANY non AT&T rom and the AT&T radio. The only time you need to reflash the radio is if you flash the new 6.1 roms which are matched to the radios so in the case of WM6.1 you have to use a radio that is designed to work with 6.1. Try reading more of the post around here and use wiki, I mean that in a positive way I am not jumping on you. there are so many cooks and hackers around here that all you have to do is read a little and you will learn everything you need to know. Um, read some more yourself... there is an AT&T ROM build that REQUIRES the specific radio shipped with that rom - instead of .12.xx it was .14.xx.
Most builders quit using that ROM as a base, only a few do and they're packaged with the .14.xx radio typically so that people don't post any more stinking - "hey my sound doesn't work after flashing xx"
I am using Dutty's v4 with either 1.27.12.17 or 1.27.11.31 depending on what city I am in. If I were using a Tilt Rom I would use 1.27.14.09 and the scroll whewl works as it should. The scroll wheel does not work with this current configuration. Am I wrong in assuming that the radio effects the camara's scroll wheel function? If interested I can pass-on a sprite backup that I built without a SIM card so someone can see that I am not crazy.
Looking back at one of my earlier posts. This thread was in response to how the new camera, htc camera 5 does not allow you to change the type of picture, (contacts, gps photo, theme, etc...) with the scroll wheel. I stated in another thread that if you were to downgrade the camera to version 4, you can use the scroll wheel while in the camera to change photo types. I just wanted to clarify as my vocabulary and knowledge wasn't properly equipped for the situation when I originally started this thread.
I believe the scroll wheel is dependent on the version of the Camera software installed on your phone. I seem to remember that 4.x uses the scrollwheel, while 5.x does not.
Check your camera version by going into your camera settings and clicking on 'about'.
It would be nice perk to have HTC camera v5 working with the scroll wheel. I am all about the stylus-less-ness until needed.

v5 camera might have come from a device that didn't have a scroll/jog wheel. I believe it came from the Polaris.
You could always find a v4 camera cab. I believe one exists in Nadavi's v5 thread, should your only alternative is to downgrade...
If everyone uses HTC Camera v5 because is is the latest version I don't see the sense in that. If HTC Camera v5 has quality over v4 it is a perfect reason to use it minus (wheel) some functionality.
Anyone have a quality comparison of HTC Camera v4 over v5?

Ok guys ive run across this alot people downloading roms with radios that are designed to go with them and having trouble playing back video recorded on the device. I for one am having this problem i bought a new tilt 4-28-08
everything working fine, flashed duttys rom on 4-29-08, now this problem has arose. Now this thread is no way saying anything bad about Duttys rom i have had a tilt before and wore the thing out flashing his roms, he does awsome work this thread is to raise the question, has some thing been changed on the newer divices I know for a fact its not the rom and radio combination. I don't remember but on my old tilt i believe it had a 2 something meg on my new one its a 3 meg regardless somethings fishy.
I can't tell you if there is a difference in camera hardware or not, but I bought my Tilt about two weeks ago. First ROM I've flashed is Laurentius' V3 ROM, and I have not had any issues. It comes packaged with a radio. So far this ROM is superb, no issues to report from me, and much better of course than the stock ROM.

What has video playback got to do with the number of megapixels in the camera? And suntzu is right, the camera in the Tytn II/Tilt has always been 3mp (well, technically speaking 2.8, but who's counting!)
ive flashed three different roms the htc and the att versions of duttys april 29 rom and alexes att rom and had the same issue on all three roms on duttys i shouldn't have to change the radio because that is whats packaged with the rom why would he say it compatiable if its not, come on this is dutty, i don't think its the radio rom combination. any way i started this thread to get people with the same problem to respond and see if there really is a problem. ive taken all logical steps to correct this, redownloaded roms, changed radios, reflashed still no solution

Did you try it on the stock rom to determine if you just have a bad tilt? If you've tried multiple roms/radio's, it does indeed start pointing at the hardware but doesn't necessarily mean anything has changed. From a business standpoint it would not make any sense to just change the camera and keep the same model number....they'd add a letter or change it up a bit to identify which firmware was needed.
you are probably right about the Rom
check out this post. This guy has found away to resolve the camera issue with his new TIlt

I'll go ahead and try flashing that ROM to see whether it affects the camera on my new tilt too.
I think it's already been confirmed, but I'll confirm it as well:
The older Stock AT&T ROM I downloaded from somewhere off this forum (file name RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_1.57 - Originaly Shipped AT&T ROM.exe) did not work in terms of fixing the video camera issue. On top of that, it listed my processor as 7200.
I flashed with the newer:
RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_1.62.502.0_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.14.09R2_Ship.exe
And the video camera works flawlessly as the day I got my tilt (which was about a month ago).
Seems a slight change in the phones has occurred to cause this issue in most of the cooked ROMS being put out right now. Hopefully someone will be able to pinpoint exactly what it is....
For now all we have to go on is the models with the 7201 processor. Anyone that mentions they have a newer tilt and has now problems, please double check the processor to make sure it lists 7201 and not 7200. That way we know whether or not checking the processor is a reliable method of predicting whether there will be a problem or not...

I tried Laurentius' V3 ROM just now. I still get the issue, although, when I go to the video album the thumbnail isn't the usual sold green image for the video. It's got big red dots patterned across it. Also, watching the video, I can discern some bright objects amongst the garbled colorful pixels. That's about it. This rom seemed considerably slower than Dutty's latest one. I guess I'll sacrifice the video camera until someone figures this issue out

Okay, I've seen converstations here and there in unrelated threads. I thought to myself, why don't I start thread that might better explain the differences/benefits of either.
I myself have only enough information to speculate on anything. I won't input, just allow others to share what they know.
What do I know? I know I have a 2 month old AT&T Tilt, that was bought new from the local store. I noticed this evening, for the first time, that it is the MSM7201 processor.
Is this a bad thing? Should I attempt warranty switcharoo?
XC
It's just be more people unable to comprehend what they're reading:
7201 = Broadcom non-infringing for USA
72xxA = 45nm die shrink
Parallel differences.
question
how can I see what kind of chipset is inside my kaiser?
So did they remove anything in the 7201 versions to not be infringing on any patents in the USA? Like would there be any differences to the end user compared to the 7200? I have read no but I haven't really read what it takes out or changes to be compliant.
what THE?

I just got a new Tilt as warranty replacement from AT&T and it also has MSM7201.
It came with:
ROM 1.62.502.0
Date: 01/17/08
Radio: 1.27.14.09
Protocol: 22.45.88.07H
OS 5.2.1622 (Build 18128.0.4.4)
This is what I found about the new chip:
It looks like Qualcomm infringed several Broadcomm's patents and several Qualcomm chips (including 7200) and devices using it were banned from being imported into U.S.
From what I have read it looks like the patents cover video compression algorithms. That may be the reason people are having problems with video using certain radio versions.

Dunno how accurate that is, but it does have some relevance to an issue some of us MSM7201 owners are having with recording video on our cameras.
The thread on the recording issue can be found here:

Finding out which chip version you have can be tricky if you've flashed your ROM (depending on which one you flashed). Some will still list your MSM7201 as an MSM7200 (as I've noticed with mine. using Dutty's latest hybrid it says 7200). If you check your device information with the original stock software, then the processor listed there will likely be accurate (7201 on mine).

Mine was accurate in the original and in duttys. I have a 7201 and I have camera problems. I had mine replaced under warranty and got a 7201 back. Three of my friends have purchased Tilts in the last few weeks and they all have 7201. They've flashed theirs and all lost their ability to record video with anything but the stock ROM and NoThrils ROM. It doesn't seem to be any different aside from that although(call me crazy), mine feels faster. Not like it has drivers or anything. Just snappier.

I have used may ROMs and a few different radios on few different ROMS. They don't record the video, only the audio on Duttys and every other I've tried except for NoThrils. I don't understand it. I've used a few different radios on this Nothrills ROM and it doesn't seem to effect the video. I'm thinking it's fairly simple like just one single file for the camera being different.

I haven't seen anyone in the latest Nothrills ROM thread complain about it and since the vast majority of people have a 7200, i would think that it does. I learned about a possible fix for my problem which was actually talking about a slightly different issue from the fallowing thread. They were having issue with pixelation in the video were I was just getting no video. Their solution worked for me as well.

Looking back at the collection of ROMS I've accumulated since I got my phone about a month ago, I don't see any cooked WM6 roms Which means of the several I've tested ever since this issue came up, none were WM6.
The only WM6 ROMs I did test this issue on were original AT&T Roms:
RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_1.57 - Originaly Shipped AT&T ROM.exe
found somewhere in the forums. The camera still produced junk for output.
Then I tried out the more recent:
RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_1.62.502.0_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.14.09R2_Ship.exe
which works just fine and was probably modified to support whatever changes they made in the MSM7201.
is there any different between 7200 and 7201
i'm so lucky to see that our kasira is use 7200
Howdy guys,
I'm curious if anyone knows whether Netflix works on the Xoom using CM9 or 10. I ask because I own an Atrix which seems to be remarkably similar hardware, and I know the CM9 and presumably 10 roms will not playback Netflix video due to Nvidia not releasing the necessary drivers. Because of that I keep it on CM 7. Since they're both Tegra 2, well....? I'm ready to flash over the stock ICS rom, but if that means losing Netflix I might have to reconsider. Would that also mean no hardware video acceleration as well?
I've searched high and low and found one post that suggested someone was running Netflix fine, but I couldn't infer which specific rom he was using. Any thoughts, folks?

Howdy guys,
I'm curious if anyone knows whether Netflix works on the Xoom using CM9 or 10. I ask because I own an Atrix which seems to be remarkably similar hardware, and I know the CM9 and presumably 10 roms will not playback Netflix video due to Nvidia not releasing the necessary drivers. Thanks for the tip--always meant to try some different roms. I did go ahead and flash CM10 since I already had it downloaded and I'm pleased to report that Netflix does in fact run fine. Makes me wonder why jokersax's Atrix build doesn't run it, though I haven't tested the later versions. Well, it runs but there is just a black screen when video should be playing.
