I'm minding about buying a cingular 2125 on eBay, but the phone I choose is locked to Cingular (ATT), and If I but it, I'll get just the phone without SIM card...
May I be able to SIM unlock this phone without the need of a Cingular SIM card?, I've read many post stating that you may need the Cingular SIM Card at least once to get it unlocked, is that right? or is there an alternate way to get it unlocked not involving using that SIM card.
Thanks for your replies.

I believe if u can get it into flight mode you should be fine.
i belive you dont need a sim to unlock your phone,i have one and as i recall i dint use a sim card wile unlocking it,how did i unlock it you might be asking? well i flash it with one of the wm6 roms almost 99% of them are network unlock,so mate i would just recommend buy your phone and flash it to wm6.1 standard or if you wanna try something new and difrent flash it with wm6.1 pro, anyways gl mate ^^
Just follow the Step-By-Step guide by Karhoe which is a sticky at the top of this list. I wouldn't try flashing until after you are unlocked and are SuperSID mode. I've unlocked 2 AT&Ts for use with T-Mobile with no problems.

I am curious if flashing my AT&T tilt with the HTC software will allow me to use a sim card from another carrier. Has anyone tried this?

Nope. Find something/someone/someway to SIM unlock phone. Not possible as of yet. ROM flashing will work only after you CID unlock your phone, which means you can flash different ROMs onto your phone than originally suppied.
Some post couple days ago talk about how to sim unlock already, just search for it and call the att number on there, it work for me.

haha, yeah, for some reason i never think to call up At&t for anything... i'm sure you can lie to your provider so they will give you the unlock code (at least until enough people use the same story verbatim to where they realize that it must be posted some discussion board as to how to get sim unlocked....)
I am still somewhat confused as to the unlocking aspect.
I know I can obtain the SIM unlock code for the Tilt from AT&T. Are you saying that it is still impossible to CID unlock the phone, once this has been done?

SIM unlocking and CID unlocking are two different things.
CID unlocking allows you to use OS ROMs from other variants of the same hardware. i.e. HTC TyTn II ROM on a Tilt. CID unlocking can be done easily with HardSPL.
SIM unlocking allows you to use SIMs other than your carrier's. Right now the only way to get a Tilt SIM-unlocked is to get an unlock code from AT&T, or to purchase an unlock code from someone else (who is probably just abusing an "insider" within AT&T to feed them unlock codes.). Flashing an alternative radio ROM can remove a SIM lock, but from a few posts I have read, it is going to be much more difficult/take much longer for our enterprising hackers to figure out how to flash an unsigned radio ROM and have it actually boot, apparently the radio bootloader now does an integrity/signing check against the ROM and will only boot signed carrier ROMs.
Well then I'm still going to call ATT tomorrow for the sim Unlock (heading to japan in a month) but, from what your saying does that mean i can go ahead and flash my phone using HardSPL to HTC stock? or do i need to have sim unlock first regardless what i do?
I understand it's encrypted. But what happens if you dump the radio rom from a tytnii and flash it onto a 8925?

Don't think it'll work. I think that the ROM has to be signed until the bootloader gets cracked. Not sure. If it worked, we would've heard about it and it would be in all the FAQs.
I wonder how it works though. Definitely am not knowledgeable enough about this yet, but upgrades have come out in the past for older phones. It wouldn't change the lock state though. Why is that? If there's a way to corrupt it and then flash back the original? Are there any signed radio roms out?
What exactly happens when you flash an unsigned one? Brick or just no radio?

Can you let me know how it goes with the call to AT&T? I'm going to HK in December and will call AT&T soon. I want to wait a little before calling since I just got the phone last week.
No worries. Tell them just that. You'll be off the phone within 5 minutes. No hassle at all compared to when I called to get my nokia 6682 unlocked a year ago. Just make sure you call international support
flashing tutorial
Hello,
I am very new to this so please forgive me. I did some searches but was unable to find anything complete. So is there any complete tutorial on how i can CID unclock and flash an AT&T Tilt with Dutty_s_TouchFlo_Final_Rom
Thank you
Just got AT&T Tilt, can i flash HardSPL without using AT&T Sim & w/o unlock code??
Hello,
I have been searching around for answers but I am still rather unclear of this.
A Tilt was received and I am located in Singapore, there is no way I can have access to an AT&T Tilt sim card.
How do I unlock the phone apart from using the "call AT&T method" and buying it off ebay method?
I tried calling them 14 times on their 916 number to no avail. Please help me with this.
Is it possible for me to just install HardSPL to solve everything?
Thank you.
Gerald
Anyone knows?
Ok just figured it out. HardSPL only gives the CID unlock, not the SIM unlock.
For SIM unlock I have to call AT&T/buy on ebay.
congrats. You get an A+ for research.
I unlocked the phone way back to flash a radio, never needed the sim unlock. Is there a way to tell that it is unlocked? I'm about to ship it overseas and want to make sure it's unlocked...

Put in a sim card from another carrier. But if you bought the unlocker (not just hard spl, but the unlocker), then I'd say it's a pretty good bet that it worked. If the security unlock worked (check the bootloader), then I think the sim unlock must've worked as well.
I'm certain the unlocker worked as I was flashing non-AT&T radios. So the SIM unlock was integral to the unlocker and no additional work is needed when putting in the sim card?
I don't remember the exact order, but step 1 of the unlocker is to flash hard spl, I think step 2 may do the sim unlock, and then step 3 security unlocks the phone so you can flash diamond, HD and a few other radios from other devices (the carrier doesn't matter for radio flashing, it's the device). It also CID unlocks the phone right at the end (where you type in a new carrier id, and I think 000000 is unlocked). You can probably check the unlocker thread, but if you're security unlocked (which is easy to check), then I'm pretty sure you're sim unlocked.
OK so hears my question I currently acquired a t moble htc sensation 4g from a friend who cant afford it anymore. I have a free phone with 250 mins a month and it uses at&t network found that out by the phone number look up.
My nephew also has a t mobile Sim it wouldn't dial out but didn't say no Sim.
I already know that the phone has to be unlocked to use other Sim cards and I did method 1 of unlocking my phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232107 but only the date was displayed instead of my Sim code now before I proceed with method 2 of unlocking I wanted to know if it would then recognize my Sim card and work or any other way to make it work before I use this method Please help.

I got the 'STRING: NOT FOUND' error on method one, so I moved to ADB Guide method and successfully unlocked it.

If you unlock the phone, it will still work with the original SIM card.
One possible reason that the other T-Mobile SIM didn't work is that it might not have been a newer 4G-capable SIM card, or the contacts became dirty ( they can easily be cleaned with a pencil eraser).

I am getting an HTC One S that is locked to Orange UK. I'm not in the UK and I'm having a friend ship the phone to me. It is an S4.
This will be my frist Android device, so I'm a bit clueless. I plan on ultimately changing to stock EU firmware, rather than Orange firmware.
Can I change the firmware and remove the SIM lock (I assume simply changing the firmware won't do this?) without an Orange SIM? I have read the threads on how to remove the SIM lock so I'm confident that I can do it, I just don't know what functions can be accessed on the phone without a SIM having never had an Android device before.
I have an Orange uk One S now running trickDroid v7 & if you want to remove the Orange sim lock try this Link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693491

Thanks, I appreciate the reply.
I have been through that link, I just want to check if I can follow that process without having an Orange SIM in the phone at the time. I'm not sure what parts of the phone can be accessed without a SIM in it.
I've not tryed the sim unlock as yet but use without a sim in connect to play store via wireless will work most of the process is done via the app or cmd prompt so should be workable!

Great, that answers my question then, thanks!
No you don't need an Orange SIM card. The SIM unlock procedure actually required you have a SIM from a different provider so you're good to go with what ever SIM you have. Once you insert a SIM card other than Orange SIM, it will ask for a SIM unlock code.
