Need help buying a new HTC phone unlocked. - General Topics

I'm planning on ditching Sprint for ATT or T-Mobile because I cant get any international texts. Sprint claims its an issue with the international carriers. However, I was with T-Mob for years with the same number and I got tects from, England, Ireland, Germany, Nigeria etc.
Anyway, does anyone know of a good unlocked HTC PDA phone that will work with ATTs HSDPA(yeah I know about the tilt but it sucks). Any ideas please?

if ur willing to suffer for another month or two, the new Diamond is coming out for tmobile, which (except for battery time) is gonna be a whole new breed of ppc. if ur willing to switch to tmobile then yay for u, especially since tmobile is coming out with new 3G thats faster than ATT. if not im sure that there'll be a way to unlock it within 2 weeks of release. anyway good luck.

I've been eyeing the HTC Cruise(Polaris) lately. Actually I've spent the last 3 hours researching it and i think I'll make the jump. It's gonna force me to go to ATT since it will only work on their 3G spectrum.
It might just be me but I'm not intrigued by the diamond. The only upside is has above the Cruise is the today UI, which I'm sure wil be ported over as a cab once the diamond is released.

Well the diamond also has a faster processor and 4x the resolution screen as well as more ram compared to the Cruise.

www.expansys.com sell unlock phones in many countries
and diamond dont have 4X resolution it got 2X
if it had 4X it would be a 1280x960 device

99% sure this device will be on AT&T. Some prominent member informed me that they have a AT&T touch pro ROM

Well I don't know whether to be happy or said :S and i hope the X1 wont outperform it.
I can only assume, AT&T will need to have their own "uniquely named" device and not the vanilla Touch Pro the rest of the world will enjoy. This in itself will add 6 months to any official release date of the Raphael in North America. I hope I'm wrong.
I will snoop around on my side and report anything to this thread with any positive news.
Lol, I would say they're that bad , however i can imagine them releasing it sometimes in Q4 (October-ish?) or early Q1 of next year.
I thought CDMA version is coming out first for Verizon. or was it for Sprint... I read it somewhere in Engadget or BGR.
this will be called tilt II for at&t. this is a rumor i heard from a friend from at&t wireless side.
Why does the US seem to get this stuff last? I blame it on the carrier cartel that refuses to adopt the mobile phone industry models the rest of the world has.
If the only experience with HTC i had was my wizard, I'd be all over the Raphael. I paid 588USD for the tilt (off-contract) and get the shaft from them. Now, I'm up for a phone upgrade, and I'd really, really like to get my hands on this device, but I don't know if I trust them anymore.
Still LOOKS kickass, though.

well im 100% sure its not

tmobile ftw along with the diamond
Isn't the Raphael/ Touch Pro missing the GSM 850 freq? I thought AT&T uses GSM 850/1900.
Seems like it's made to be a T-mo device. (GSM 900/1800)

That hos nothing to do with it. Verizon, Tmobile, and all the US carriers can pick up the phone. Whether another carrier decides to pick it up or not doesn't mean that ATT wont.

I will prove you wrong in a couple of days.
By your analysis that means the T-Mobile in the USA would have the MDA Vario III which they don't.

there is a rumor that the missing band can be enabled by a radio firmware upgrade!

I would be VERY surprised if the Raph couldnt be sorted out like this, remember the Hermes didnt have necessary bands for telstra in AU which was eventually sorted with a hack to allow the necessary frequency to be used.
Details details people, if AT&T were going to use it i imagine the bands situation would be trivial, im sure they are going to carry it.

Why would they call it a "Tilt"? The Touch Pro's screen doesn't tilt like the Kaiser does it?

You and I can hope but I'm 98% sure you're right. Trends point to AT&T releasing this sometime next year, as to not disturb the X1 and without the front facing cam. Right now it seems like Sprint is going to get this first as they're getting the Diamond sometime in September.
OK well lets just say in a matter of days we shall see if AT&T WILL be carrying the Raphael..............or not.

Do you think verizon will lock the touch pro somehow?

Im not sure, but from previous experience about how verizon seems to lock out all the good features that are in the other carries version of the same phone. Many examples can be suggested, but yeah you get the point.
I was considering dropping verizon to get a fuze since the price is much more appealing.
What im trying to ask is do you think verizon will lockout a lot of features on the touch pro? ex: flashing the rom that isn't a authorized verizon htc update rom. Non verizon approved app's???
Also features that ATT offers that verizon dsnt and vise versa. +verizons supposed faster speed on a data connection. I know this should be asked at howard forums for the question, but the flashing issue would be better suited here.
thanks for your time
Verizon will do everything possible to make the phone suck... it's what they do with all their phones
http://gizmodo.com/5084980/htc-touch-pro-to-launch-on-verizon-november-24th
A few verizon employee's told me about this last monday before the info was leaked. Specs wise i know the verizon ver is worse, but im more interested in the software aspect.
Worse and $50 more expensive than the Sprint and AT&T version... I don't know how people still find it possible to stick with Verizon.
Verizon is wonderful in terms of network for a large part of the country that is why they are successful. And many people don't care about having the cutting edge or newest phones.
Verizon almost always handicaps their handsets in some way to push their own software, not unlike what ATT did with the Fuze.
If you are die hard verizon wait it out and see.
Ill wait to see, personally id rather have the Touch HD*no 3g* since its like 50$ more than a contract free verizon touch pro. Im most likely gona get the FUZE if i dont see any good reason to switch.
If i get an oportunity to have verizon leme use a demo version and ask someone who actually knows. What should I ask em like specs wise besides it being downclocked >_<? Also anything important to look out for if i get to try the demo or full ver?
ALso on the fuze is there video play back? I looked on htc's US site and didnt see any info about that, which the pro models had.
i've learned to wait and see for myself...
guys, if life has taught me anything is to wait and see, third party comments aren't always accurate.... wait and see for yourself...

Need suggestions on next phone

i have a Treo 800w and can not get VoIP working and looks like after lots of research it isn't gonna happen.
so i am looking at upgrading my sprint treo 800w to an HTC device.
so which has the most options/rom's and so on that has a keyboard on, no touch keyboards for me. i seem to not be able to type and drive at the same time with em to well.
thanks for the input. btw, we may also be switching carriers to wither t-mobile, alltel or verizon.
just need some input.
thanks again

Welcome to the forum
Being a Universal user I agree with you about the physical keyboard!
If you dont mind to wait a few months check Touch Pro 2, it seems a good option.

Personally, I would stay away from cdma networks if you are going to get an htc device. Tmob and Att would suit you best and customer service is above par.
im in the seame trouble, but i have a big big problem i live in mexico and the news phones is too dificult have in my distribuitor(telcel) i want a Htc pro 2 i the most complete phone, i have a nokia n95 is good, i have a htc excalibur with wm6.1 with cavanna´s rom, is more good jajajjaa, one of my best friends have a xperia, i like but i like omnia but htc pro 2 is the perfect device but i can´t have because telcel is too late for offer devices.
other option is buy in web but that is after i change model by telcel
thanks

What would you buy ?

Tragedy has struck! The Touch Pro I bought overseas has died on me : (
Since this was an overseas purchase there isn't a warranty and I've already had a local shop look at repairing it (they can't).
So, I'm in the market for a replacement.
I'm now living in San Jose, CA and have given some serious thought to:
a. an HTC TP 2
b. an HTC HD T8285 (get the 3G to work in the US).
I absolutely love having a keyboard ... but maybe I could do without. Since I've had neither of these phones in my hand, I'm not sure what direction to go.
Any advice on the technical side ?

tp2 is ok, it's a slightly better tp. Not 100% worth the upgrade.
If you like the hardware keyboard, don't change. you'll be very unhappy when u go software. go for the tp again.. Atlest I would.

HTC Touch Pro2 is much better. Touch HD just had 3G and headphone jack.
Touch Pro2 for alot of productivity - keyboard
Touch HD for alot of fun - headphones, 3G
worth the wait?
I 'seems' like a US version of the TP will be available in August some time ... I could probably borrow a phone from somebody for the next few weeks. Would it be worth the wait for a US version vs. the International version? I have never used 3G so I guess I won't miss what I've never had .?.?.?
well since you are in the US, you might as well get the US version. the international one works just as well since there isn't any serious changes to it. And 3g works on both. Once you try out 3g's speed, you'll be surprised

What's With The Terrible CDMA Support?

All the U.S. Cdma carriers were late with the first wave of wp7 devices. I'm with Verizon and we didn't get the HTC Trophy until June. Sprint got HTC arrive a couple month earlier but by the time those devices were released in the U.S. they were already year old devices.
So 6 months later GSM is getting the roll out of the mango phones with front facing cameras and those of us with cdma arrives and trophies are looking with no signs of a cdma wp7 with a ff cam in sight. What gives?
How come HTC and Samsung aren't making cdma variants of their phones they give carriers and bringing them to cdma carriers? Like how they brought variants of the HTC touch pro 2 and the HTC evo to all the carriers?
Anyone else getting angry with the lackluster cdma support? Why aren't they launching more phones than just the ones that seemingly come out annually?
Sent from my mwp6985 using Board Express
My bet is that Sprint and Verizon are effectively done with bringing CDMA phones to market and they don't want a new phone unless it is an iPhone or 4G (LTE and/or WiMax).
I expect Verizon phones once LTE support hits with Tango.
It'll be spring.
I, for one, am really happy VZW got a 3G WP7 phone. I am in an area that prob will get LTE in the LAST phase of any roll out (we got 3G in Oct 2010). I was also able to get it before the end of unlimited data.
What is killing me isn't carrier support, but hack support. I would love to developed a ROM for the HTC Trophy, but I have the CDMA Verizon version, and it has yet to be unlocked.
I know part of this is that the unlock devs are in China and do not have access to the CDMA Trophy.. but it seems no one wants to get together and buy/send them a Trophy CDMA to work on. :/
I know I can't afford it myself.. and for some reason the price has increased on Amazon Wireless (the phone alone was going for $388, now its $479)... but perhaps if a bunch of us chipped in we could send them one.
I have talked to mwang and cotulla and offered to buy them both Verizon trophies . They have both told me that they have cdma devices in hand and are currently testing .. I know it's taking a while , but the good news is that it IS being worked on . I want a DFT rom as bad as anyone ...hell id settle for interop unlock .. I suppose we just have to be patient .
Sent from my mwp6985 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Well, it's good to know that its a work in progress. I just pray that the unlock will be based on the 7.5 rom.. many people got burnt by installing the demo rom... (well, maybe you could base it on the demo rom??). The only way to get rid of the demo rom was to install the leaked 7.5 rom (I was refused RMA because of the demo).
Oh well, if I have to go back to the demo just to unlock, I'll pray that is a workable option (many can't unlock after getting 7.5 roms).
Well, there simply are much less CDMA carriers in the world than there are GSM/UMTS ones. Given that Verizon and Sprint seem not to be too much into WP7 that explains why developing those devices is a low priority to the manufacturers.
It is a bit strange considering the Sprint Touch Pro/TP2 were the more popular devices back in the WM days then any of the other carrier devices. Now with the Arrive being almost a direct successor of the Touch Pro 2, you would think it would have gotten the same dedicated treatment, sadly, this is not the case. I do hope Sprint continues with the Arrive and whatever comes next has the same keyboard and a more refined design with the Titan like upgrades.
A 4" screen with the same keyboard, 1.5Ghz processor, and all the other Mango bells and whistles would be grand.
The most frank response is very simple:
The entire world uses GSM.
I know of all of two, maybe three countries where there are even CDMA networks. If I was making a phone, I wouldn't even be thinking about CDMA unless I was selling millions of units and expansion was easiest by using the inferior (whether true or not technologically, CMDA is inferior in a pure business sense) technology.
I know this is true too.
I can't wait for LTE to roll out and put Verizon on the same playing field as most of the world, but I also know that my area will likely be the last, even if it is being used as the primary example of how broadband internet needs to be pushed out to rural areas.
I mean, the other carriers in this area just plain don't care. Dial 16407 as the zipcode into the AT&T and Sprint coverage areas, and you'll see that neither has even got 3G up and running in this area.. let alone 4G! T-Mobile = non-existent.
I can't even get DSL on my outer rims road because Verizon (which just happens to be my land line provider) won't run DSL down it because of a massive farm that takes up the first 1/3 of this section of road!?!
Anyone who says "just move" is ignorant and should be shot.
