Preventing Windows Mobile Device Center Popup - General Topics

Does anyone know how to keep Windows Mobile Device Center from popping up everytime? I do not use USB sync, as I'm using DirectPush for Exchange mail. I also rarely have to do anything to the device other than charge it, or use MyMobile to send/receive texts.
I had this same problem with ActiveSync, only that actually brought up the synchronization wizard every time. This is a little better, but I don't want to see that window at all. In my office, I leave the phone on USB so I can use MyMobiler, but I frequently pull it off the cable when I leave the office for something. As an IT guy, I don't get to sit around for too long...

I was able to fix this. First, I stopped and disabled both WMDC services under Computer Management > Services. Then, I found mobsync.exe in the Windows/System32 folder, went into "Permissions" for it, took ownership, then removed all the accounts except the "Everyone" permissions. For Everyone, I set it to "Deny All".
I now have no WMDC or sync stuff popping up. It's great. I can still browse the phone from My Computer > TYTN II. I can also still use MyMobiler to control the phone from Windows, so this doesn't kill the USB connection at all.
Hope this helps someone.

Activesync acting up - Guest account only

For some reason this problem keeps coming back..
When I go to Activesync on my 750 it shows a different screen that says "To sync with a desktop computer, install ActiveSync on your computer and then connect this device."
When I plug in via USB or to go Menu/Connect via Bluetooth it starts to connect (open ports, establish connection, etc) but the desktop pops up a warning that says "Synchronization cannot be completed successfully..."
This appears AFTER I have already synced the device once or twice and the profile already exists on my desktop.
This happens regardless of syncing with bluetooth (which used to work) or with USB (which also used to work).
I reinstalled ActiveSync 4.5 on the desktop. The original profile was wiped away, and I was able to sync with the device again.
Now the problem came back..!
Any idea what this is? It seems like a device issue because I can never get to that normal "spinning arrows" screen on the device, only this warning screen.
Your help is appreciated!
- soft reset, no help
- reinstall activesync on desktop, no help
ok got it... deleted the profile on the desktop (disconnect device, on desktop go to File/Delete Mobile Device)... soft reset device... reconnect device to desktop...
how do i delete the profile from the device, i think that is corrupt? keeps doing the same thing.
Can you try to go to settings/connections/USBtoPC & disable advanced network functionality?
"synchronization could not be completed"
sorry, wrong thread, can't seem to remove
Update: Okay so I know how to fix the problem (delete profile from desktop, soft reset device, connect via USB)... but the problem keeps coming back.
It seems like the profile keeps getting "lost" on the Treo because that screen that I mentioned (without the spinning arrows) keeps coming back and it should only appear when there are no profiles on the device.. am I right?
Also seems like I am the only one experiencing this issue, I guess.
not the only one ive been trying for days to fix this issue and now my phone hard reset itself and wiped all my contacts/appointments etc. hmmm....... did you have a happy ending?
ActiveSync is not finding my profile?
"I know that this is an old thread" and I am bumping it anyway.
I am now having the same issue a HTC touch pro.
I cannot seem to find an actual solution to this problem, having to delete my profile every two days is not what I would call "a solution".
I cannot seem to find anyone that can help me on this issue, nor can I find the thread is it seemed to address this with a solution - only more questions.
If anyone could help me out here it would be much appreciated, thank you.
my symptoms:
contacts, appointments, notes and tasks are all missing from my phone.
Upon connecting ActiveSync, computer and phone both believe that synchronisation has occurred perfectly. In hindsight I am wondering if it has got something to do with the phone creating a new, blank profile in synchronising with that?
We in you try to change the settings so that it will synchronise them again, all of those checkboxes are locked so that they cannot be selected, almost like you are in the wrong profile and outlook is preventing you from syncing with a profile.
The only "solution" that I have discovered to this thus far is to delete all of my Outlook profiles, and then begin from scratch again

Activesync - why no manual sync?

When I changed my WM-2003 smartphone for a new HTC S710 I had to upgrade Activesync to version 4.5.
This has a most undesireeable feature of syncing every 5 minutes when connected to my PC - does any one think this is a wanted feature? Can we petition Microsofte to remove it?
Searching the net I found a couple of sugestions for stopping this happening. One was to change a registry setting on the PC to disable sync on connect - Trid this but it had no effect. The other was to create a 'dummy' server on the phone and change the schedule settings to manual and then delete the 'dummy' server (the schedule option is greyed out normally) - this had no effect either.
My phone still insists on syncing every 5 minutes.
I would like it to sync on first connection, but if I am copying a lot of files to the phone (Music/Videos from itunes for which I have a script to update them automatically when I connect my phone so I have something new to watch/listem to every day) then the 5 minute auto sync interferes with this - slows down the file transfer and in some cases Active sync disconnects the phone and I have to re-start the transfer.
I could just remove the SD card - but its a lot easier to dock the phone walk away and come back later with everything update at least it would be if active sync did not try and update my contacts/emails every 5 minutes.
Another problem is that if I accidently un-dock the phone whilst it is doing one of these unwanted sync's then it usually corrupts my contacts/mail on the phone and I have to do a total re-sync - sometimes requiring a delete of the partnership to get it to work again.
Manual sync in 4.5?
Has anyone solved the problem with the missing "Manual Sync" in ActiveSync 4.5?
Previous versions of ActiveSync had a "Manual Sync" option, in that you had to click "sync" to sync your mobile device (I have an HTC 8525 and Windows XP pro PC, USB cable to PC) .
I tried adding a "fake" Exchange server, but it still automatically syncs the 8525 about every 5 minutes, and immediately when I connect. The "Schedule" menu option is now enabled, and it shows "Manual" in both the PC's activesync and on the 8525.
But-- it still syncs upon connection, and about every 5 minutes as long as it's connected.
Anyone find an actual solution to this one?
Solution
There is a solution by editing the registry:
Something about ActiveSync’s 5-minute sync feature -- http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=592
Short:
* How: Fake Reg Key so that ActiveSync thinks Device is not cradled
* With: http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/
* Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State\Hardware\Cradled
My batchfile:
CeRegCMD.exe -w -kn "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State\Hardware" -vn "Cradled" -vd 0
it works, device stays connected (transfer, deploy, etc..) but AS is fooled
have phun..

Disable "Pocket PC sync wizard"

This is driving me up the wall. I do not want the stupid "Pocket PC sync wizard" starting up every time my phone is plugged in. I use Direct Push for all my email/contacts/calendar/etc, which is tied to my home mail server for my home domain. On my work PC, even though ActiveSync recognizes that I'm already configured for another Exchange server, it's trying to force my home contacts and stuff to my work account.
This should be a very minor issue, but of course, in typical MS fashion, unticking "Open ActiveSync when my device connects" doesn't do a thing. In the past, I've been able to use Q270136 to disable partnership and set ActiveSync to "Guest Only", which got rid of the stupid sync wizard popup. When I browse to HKLM/Software/Microsoft, there is no "Windows CE Services" key. I tried manually creating the key, and then the DWORD value, but that didn't work, either.
The only thing I need to do is be able to browse the device occasionally, add/remove software, flash ROMs, and send/receive SMS using MyMobiler. I don't want to sync over USB.
Can anyone help me? Could this just be a thing on work PC? I'm running XP-64 Pro, along with ActiveSync 4.5.
Thanks in advance.
Maybe a workaround would be to create a partnership and just disable all 'syncable' items.

Already tried that. The first synchable item is "contacts". When I uncheck it says:
"To proceed, ActiveSync must remove all Contacts on your Pocket PC. Do you wish to continue?"
I hate this stupid POS program...

I Hate Activesync. Hate. It. Device simply not connecting

XDA Exec, all of a sudden, it no longer connects.
"Activesync cannot connect to the windows mobile powered device. To troubleshoot the problem, click OK."
Uninstalled AS, Downloaded 4.2 AS, switched USB port, disabled firewall and antivirus, nothing works.
I'd hate to have to wipe my device, coz it's a pain to get it back to normal, coz I don't have any fancy backup solutions. Also have Push Email running on it, but I suppose that could be be re-setup manually.
It's been syncing happily for ages over the air, and I connect it basically only to allow me to install programs. Which I can't do now.
P. O. S. Software.
Any ideas?

How about downloading 4.5 AS and seeing if that works...4.2 is the old version of AS...
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/activesync45.mspx
i found that my firewall settings changed to 'no exceptions'. Disabling this enabled activesync, yay.
Alternatives
Contacts:
www.dashwire.com, You download a cab...you sync everything on your phone from your contact files to the site. You can use a web browser to access / edit contacts...or just leave it to the phone to change and edit...and if you need to hard reset, you can re-sync after you reinstall Dashwire.
NueMassStorage
http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Communications/nueMassStorage-67900.shtml
Download this program, go to Start - Settings - Connections - USB To PC and plug in your phone. It makes your phone a USB device. The data transfer is at least 2x the speed of Activesync
Nuevasync.com
Sync your Google Calendar via net.
Check em out if you want...I never use reg activesync anymore.

Can't synchronize with Activesync!

Hi all,
It driving me insane that I can't work it out why Activesync is not syncing my phone.
Here is the situation. Got the phone from my brother. With him it synced fine, with USB cable, with Outlook 2003 and WM6.5.
I have the same setup but Outlook 2007.
What happens is that when it connects, it finds the device, I only set it to sync contact, tasks and calender of outlook. It then says "Looking for changes" and soon after it says "Synchronizing". But then it hangs.
I searched the forum and the internet. I tried reconfiguring, soft resets, installing CompanionLink (software that works through Activesync).
No joy!
I simply want to be able to keep my contacts, calender and tasks from outlook synced. Nothing more.
Any help!!?!
I had the same problem when i used Active Sync from XP, but i works when im using Win7.
Try deleting all the Active Sync settings and make the configuration from Win7. When i did that it worked when i connect to the PC with XP - strange but true...
Ok. But what do you mean with "make the setting for win7"?
Yay! Got it to work!
Funny that I had the feeling in the beginning that it might be the amount of to-be-synced items was going to be too big. And somewhere on the net I found someone with the same idea.
I disconnected the device (usb cable). I removed the device from the "file" dropdown menu. And reconnected the usb-cable. When prompted with the wizard, in the settings I deselected ALL the to be synced categories.
Then it found the device and it synced... nothing.
But it said it synced.
Then I opened the option menu in Activesync and added only the contacts. And hurray! It started syncing. Then I added the agenda and hurray again!
The only thing that happened is that I ended up with duplicate contacts and agenda items. But after an hour I had that fixed too.
Note: Although I don't think that it contributed to the solution, I did reinstall and soft-resetted the device before I did all this. Just to let you know...

Try this:
1. At setting | connections | Run the the 'USB to PC'
2. Uncheck "Enable faster data..."
3. Uncheck "Ask me first about USB...."
4. Soft reset phone & PC
5. sync again.
Note: This may enable activesync works but file transfer from PC to Phone/Storage will fall back. may need to swap the setting back.
HOPE it helps.
