Newb with Rom questions.. - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Before you guys flame me, i've already read a lot about the different roms, and i'm not coming asking for rom help.... I recently purchased an unlocked tilt with a custom rom already installed. I believe it is this rom... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=347879 I am going to change that rom and upgrade it to a much newer, and battery saving rom. When i was searching i came across this rom... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361544&highlight=extend+battery+life
I also came across this rom....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388947 Which rom in your opinion has better battery use, and is more stable?? If you dont think one of these are the best rom, which one would you suggest?? and finally, what rom are you using??
Thanks
-EP

no one can tell what's best for you. try out some different roms, that's the best way to tell whats best for you.

cant really suggest what u should use because its all based on personal prefs...i cant tell u which girl to go after as your wife or which house to buy or which car to buy...u have to test and see which one fits u most...and i'm using the L26 rom in my sigature

Nearly all of the ROMs posted here in the last two months are based on early leaked (unofficial) WM 6.1 builds. They are unofficial because they are still being debugged by HTC and the carriers. HTC is going to release an official 6.1 any day now and an at&t version is expected to follow shortly. Custom ROMs based on the official releases will be available within days of the official releases.
The last two unoficial at&t builds, 19209, 19213 (and all custom ROMS based on these builds) contain noticeable graphics performance improvements. The official releases will also have this improvement.
You could try one of the recent ROMS based on these builds now but you will want to move to something "official - based" once available, assuming you want to upgrade to WM 6.1
I've flashed half a dozen (or so) ROMs over the last two months but am currently on the stock at&t 19213.
Warning...this can be habit forming...
Enjoy!

Half right ! Microsoft has officially released WM 6.1 it is not " leaked. "
That is what 6.1 cooked roms are based on. Some carriers have already included it in roms for new phones and as updates.
It is rumored that a new rom with 6.1 will be available for the TyTn by the end of the month. The HTC rumor is that they will not upgrade the Tilt anytime soon, but other rumors say they will. Believe what you will

Microsoft oficially released WM 6.1 to manufacturers. Manufacturers must add another layer of software to integrate the OS to the hardware.Manufaturers also customize carrier specific models (i.e at&t Tilt) to an additional set of specifications that are ordered by the carrier. And so it goes...
See the link for a rom that is rumored to be an HTC official release for TyTn II. The rom is dated 5/2/08.

Here is the link to the latest leaked at&t version that HTC and at&T are developing for the Tilt.

ROM Porters abandoning the Wizard?

In the past when a new Base ROM appeared for another device (Trinity, Hermes) then very quickly one or two of the ROM porters would post on here a port for the Wizard. Now over the past few weeks the main ROM guys just haven't been posting. Sure we have had people cook a few ROMs based on the last one that was ported (5.2.1933), however nothing new has appeared.
Is everyone moving over to newer devices and abandoning the Wizard?
Andy
they threw wizards thru the window, problably...
maybe you will kill me, but who cares about new ported roms - 318 is ok enough
newer ones won't make wizard faster..
only things, that i am lacking, personally - adding extrom space to storage(bigstorage)..
i know. i love the wizard. i came close to buying other fones but the wizard does it for me. i love changing new roms, adding new programs. its like my lil pet project.
please we need new roms with more style and newer features
Sorry but...
...how can you possibly say this?
The last rom for wizard was published on 22nd november, 3 days ago, the last but one on 20th nov, 6 days ago, and so on... We have the latest build available, 5.2.1933, so what else can you ask for?
Moreover, this phone is quite old (in human time)/GARGANTUANLY old (in technology time) so i'm amazed that so many developers are still working on it!
This is a great community and i've nothing to complain about!

The point is there are no "new features"...all the newer releases did was add additional bugs, issues and instability. The XM6 series of rom's (R4 currently) has used the 318 build all the way back to it's early releases because mfrazzz found it the most stable of the rom's...now 318 is the "new in thing" and everyone is using it as a base rom.
Latest does not = Greatest.

22nd November? - 5.2.1933 has been around since October.....
5.2.1948 has been around for a week or so for other devices. In the past when a new base appeared for a different device I think there was only a delay of a day or so before someone posted a port for the Wizard.
I am not complaining - without anyone porting ROMs (or leaking them) we would all still be on WM5, so thanks for everyones hard work so far I was just trying to judge whether all the more senior ROM supremos had migrated to newer devices and were therefore leaving the Wizard.
Andy
There are a few that have moved to newer devices. There's ether broke or they just wanted a newer model. Faria, mattk_r, theloon are a few names I remember. theloon still pops in but who knows for how much longer.

It's not possible microsoft release so many new version without any improvement.
Maybe our port is not good as the original versions and because of it we have so many bugs.
but i don't think fair say that not diferences betwen 318 build and others ports

Interesting Question

With AT&T ROM 1.62 out now, I seem to be left a bit confused. We have all seen the WM 6.1 ROMs floating around on the site, but that leaves me wondering why AT&T did not upgrade to WM 6.1 considering that there are working WM6.1 ROMs available for the Kaiser.
So, what then is the story on these ROMs? Are the WM 6.1 ROMs lacking in the bug fixes that are contained within the 1.62 ROM, or are the WM 6.1 ROMs some kind of HTC internal beta ROM (and therefore not without bugs)? It just seems a bit bizarre that AT&T didn't use the opportunity to upgrade to WM 6.1.
Nothing odd about it. 1.62 was an AT&T release that was finalized & slated for release at about the same time the device was release to public by AT&T. Frequently companies such as HTC are pressured to release a device ASAP & will do so even with some issues, as long as it passes the network testing. ALthough the devices are accepted by AT&T & are released the task of fixing the known issues continue.
Just like when you bought your XP computer. There were tons of security issues. You still wanted XP & companies still wanted to sell it to you. Now years later, you have a heavily patched XP OS due to all the updates.
This is basically what the 1.62 update is. Patches for small issue that they knew about, but that weren't significant enough to postpone the release date.
WM6.1 has been around for a while. It's not ready for primetime though. When you see a post touting the WM6.1 as "Official" that is intended to let you know that it is from an official or trusted anonymous source with inside knowledge or access.
If you've been following the WM6.1 threads, you know that WM6.1 will not work very well without tweaking & fixes being cooked in. It was only recently given to the operators for testing & will take some time to pass OEM & then Operator testing.
Currently, WM has also finished WM6.5 prototypes, WM6.6 is intended to be the final stepping stone before Photon or WM7.
I would say that it will be 4 - 6 months before an operator released 6.1 is available. After that you will see maybe some minor fixes & patches & then in about 12 - 18 months wm6.5. (WM6.5 if compatible with the Kaiser will be here before the of course) So maybe you'll see some cooked 6.5 ROM's within the next 12 months.
Everything in technology comes in steps. A lot of what you find here has already been in development for AT LEAST 6 months to a year. These update (AKU) are MS fixes, that then have to go to OEM's for testing & application of the OAL (OEM Adaptaion Layer) for new devices, &/or then to the operators such as AT&T for further testing & deployment. (which as of late has been defered to HTC)
WM6.1 is close, & some of the cooked versions are excelent, Sleuth comes to mind, but the ROM chef's here do not have the testing & protocol restrictions that the OEM development teams are faced with. (That said, I believe that those teams also lack the skill & creativity of XDA's finest as well)

WM6.1 Official on April 1st

So if WM6.1 goes official on April 1st, then what does that mean for all the "official" ROMs that are currently available?
The latest images of WM6.1 on http://www.boygeniusreport.com/ shows a kinda slick interface that isn't part of any of the ROMs here. At the same time does anyone know if HTC is going to release a true 6.1 ROM for the Kaiser?
I really liked to cooked ROMs but inquiring minds want to know!

That "slick" interface, is for WM6.1 Standard...aka non-touchscreen SmartPhone.
1 april foolsday don't forget
OK, so it's not for touch-screen. But the basic question still remains - what does an Official WM6.1 mean for the claimed "official" ROM's here?
I really like the cooked ROMs but have had mixed results with all of them. Some have great features, some are really fast, but none of them have been reliably stable. I live and die by email and phone calls, so regardless of what is in a ROM if it is not stable then it's usefullness is limited to me.
I understand that all the current Kaiser WM6.1 ROMS are builds from other devices, just ported over. So will a true Kaiser WM6.1 bring cooked ROMs with better stability and cool features?

AT&T Tilt 6.1 ROM versions

Looking for some advice here... The wiki is down, at least for me. I haven't been able to access it for the last two days.
I would like to finally update the ROM on my Tilt, and need some advice on the ROM options. Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2 5.2.19700 seems popular... What other options are there?
Here's some parameters. I am on the original AT&T 1.57.502.2 with the 1.27.12.11 radio (no bloatware). I'd like to find a ROM that's fast, stable, support's AT&T Tilt (US) keyboard layout, includes AT&T's standard network settings, and as much of my "core" software as possible. My "essential software" includes HTC Diamond keyboard set, HTC Album, HTC Home, S2U2, MS Live Search, Calc 1 Lite (from Dutty), Touch dialer, updated Nadavi HTC Camera (5.0.4.2915), OneNote mobile (from Dutty), Opera mini 4 beta (waiting for my Skyfire beta invite...), the M&M Marshall WaitCursor, and my favorite black glossy skin.
I understand this is an open-ended question... just looking for some educated opinions. Maybe the Wiki has good info, but as I said, it's down. Maybe a sticky with a summary listing is in order?
I went with Dutty's because it's tried, true, fast (based on benchmark) and also, probably most importantly, it's so popular that if you have issues then there is a vast array of folks who probably had it before and either has a solution or you know 'that's not fixed yet' so don't waste your time fiddling with it.
My only regret is that I went with the "cubed" version instead of the "non-cubed" as I like some of the other cubes out there...I would suggest going with the non-cubed so if you ever go with any of the cube UIs you can select your own.
You can overwrite the Cube on Dutty's but it's still sitting in the memory area wasting space even when it's not in use.

Honestly, if you've waited this long, I would wait until the official HTC release comes out this month, as there are bound to be new builds all around. Once would hope the latest release would have the most fixes built in and be the most stable.
Of course, the release may be a hoax...but I would spend two more weeks researching and then if there isn't an official release, at least you will be better informed to use what's out there.
Best Cube UI

OK, if the Cube UI included in dutty's is not the best cube, which one is? What are the choices?

Thanks. That makes sense... There also seems to be a new AT&T ROM this week ([05/11/2008] ATT 19213 build with 1.65.20.29 radio) and no cooked updates on top of that
Ummmmm...there are several cooked version of that specific ROM you are looking for!!!!
Shogun Mark's Version
RynCPpr Version
L2 Version

Not sure what you are looking for...WM 6.1 is the next WM release coming up, thus the "leaks".
Are you hopeful for a WM7 leak?
You're only seeing at&t 6.1 releases because the 6.1 roms are only coming from our insider at at&t development. HTC, Orange, etc are not releasing any "test" roms like at&t. HTC is claiming they will be releasing a full official wm6.1 soon. None of the roms thus far from at&t have been full "releases."
