Hey guys, recently noticed that i'm not getting any sound through my external speakers. When i play a song for example, i literally hear the first beat of the song, then it goes silent....than 10 seconds later i hear another beat....then silent. this goes on and off. When someone calls, i hear the first beat of my ring tone, then silence. Not sure what happened, flashed it with an older rom, still same issues. not sure if its a hardware problem (or if it can even be fixed). I plug in my headphones, and sound comes out of that perfectly... any suggestions?
you said a reflash did not help...
that does seem like a problem with the hardware because flashing rules out any possibility of the speaker being disabled in the registry or settings. Your speaker might have gone bust. but that is a very rare kind of situation.
yea, just my luck, i end up with the rare situation . i wonder how much it'll cost to repair.
the only way to know is to send it to HTC.
you still have it under the warranty i hope.
edit:
your warranty is definitely void because you flashed it with other ROM's. But they don't know that.
Flash it to the new HTC shipped ROM before you send it for repair.

oh ok! didnt know i could do that . i'll give them a call right now. thanks!
do you know the number i would call?
Repair it yourself. It's not hard to open the Vox and the back speaker should be right there. I am waiting on a new vibrate motor to replace mine, it was very easy to open and remove.
but i'm not entirely sure that its the speaker alone
You should not open it unless you are sure that you can get the spare part.

Seems like a hardware problem.
You could try your luck by flashing an RUU to eliminate the possibility of a software problem.
But if your phone is in warranty, take it to HTC.
I bought the phone used I don't know if they will warranty it.

I doubt it. You could check with HTC Support. You can contact them via e-mail, you'll find the details on the site.
well they didnt ask me where I bought it or anything, they are willing to warranty it but they are trying to send me a nokia a lumia because they have nothing in stock. I have to pay $20 for shipping and then when they have the sensation in stock they will send it to me for another $20. I think that totally ridiculous I am not sure what to do now.
I recently bought a Samsung infuse 4g from a lady at work.. she got the phone from At&t and I am on T-Mobile so I bought an unlocking code today. I was so excited that I could finally use my new phone.. when I went to make a call I heard nothing while dialing out and when my husband answered he couldn't hear me talk to him
Almost every time I try to call out the phone will freeze and there is no sound so I did a factory reset and still nothing so i went to Samsung.com the tech support lady had me plug in and unplug headphones then blow air into the hole. This did not work so we did a soft reset (taking out the battery for 30 seconds) and still no sound at all no music no alarm no phone calls. I am so upset that I have payed 150$ for the phone and 30$ for the unlock code... I know the phone worked when my friend was using it a few days ago but I am not 100% if the sound worked when she gave it to me BC she had got the skyrocket and using that.. I saw the phone turn on and receive text messages never would have thought to check and see if the sound worked..am I totally up a creek with no paddle ?. I am confident that the phone still has a warranty but it would not be in my name and I am not sure if it would be voided by unlocking it.... please help me !!!!!!

ok since you unlock it has to be rooted. so that would void your warranty, but it can be put back to stock if you must replace it, with that have you tried to one click or odin back to stock, that may fix and at the same time get it ready for return if needed. Question are you on stock or custom ROM? BTW way to check i warranty is good, reg it via samsung website it will tell you there, I reg all my sammy products for that reason.
here is all the tools needed to get back to stock and custom ROMs

Bigjoe thought you were already rooted because you were unlocked...its not neccessary...if your on Froyo you can use the app gingerbreak (or so I've heard) if your on gingerbread you have to use a computer-keep in mind rooting will void your warranty (but you can always go back to stock and no one would ever know you were ever rooted)

Alright guys, after seeing 2.20 being rootable I decided to dive back into the One X. I traded my S3 for it + $50. Flawless S3, seriously. The guy I traded with seemed perfectly cool and legitimate but now an issue has arisen.
I didn't think to check it when we made the trade (though I checked other things like mobile data, etc.) but when I made a call later, the person on the other end couldn't hear me.
Here's what I've found:
Microphone works for recording video
Microphone works *on speaker phone*
Microphone works with an external source (bluetooth headset or earbuds with mic)
but the regular handset microphone does not appear to work.
Does anyone have ANY idea what might cause this? Unfortunately, I've already rooted. Literally the only thing I've done. I tried AOKP nightly, I've tried Nocturnal Limited edition. Next I'm going to attempt a RUU.
I've talked to the guy. He swears it was working, I'd like to believe him but neither of us tested it. He didn't test calls on the S3 either so it's not like he wasn't taking the same gamble.
He says that if I can get it working, he'll trade back but since he gave it to me working (as far as he knows) he won't trade back
I'm at a loss here. Can I (legally) mark the S3 as stolen? In that as far as I know, he made me a bad trade and will not simply give me my device back in return for his and his money
HAAAAALLLLLLPPPPP!
Thanks

Run the ruu. If the microphone works in other situations you're fine. Run the ruu.
And no you can't legally say it was stolen.

The microphone volume is a perennial problem with this phone. No one seems to know for sure what causes it. Reseting and ruu'ing ought to fix it.
Thanks guys, downloading the 2.20 RUU now. It does have to be the 2.20 RUU since I'm already on 2.20 right? No downgrading, is that correct?
I really hope this fixes it, because I love the One X. Haha, don't know how I dodged this problem the first time I had it.
Now I must ask and re-verify.
While booted into Nocturnal Lite
Run RUU
Reboot into stock and make sure everything's working
Reinstall recovery via fastboot
Install ROM of choice
Fastboot boot.img for ROM of choice
Boot up
Love One X
That's it right?

Correct, you cannot downgrade. But to RUU, you have to relock or it will fail. Also, once you relock, you have to RUU then and there because your phone won't boot up. You'll need to go through the whole unlock/root process again. Remember this will wipe your phone.

Yeah man, relocked. I'm running the AT&T RUU found here. Fastboot OEM readCID still shows SuperCID, I'm reinstalling HTC Drivers and then I'll restart the computer. Maybe that's all it is.

Unplug your phone, turn it off, and restart it. Sometimes that helps. It won't boot, but you can get it back into the bootloader.
Does it need to be in Fastboot or Bootloader? I'm close to giving up on the laptop (which worked fine for the other 90%) and trying my ancient desktop

Yeah, I meant the microphone still isn't working. I've been on the stock RUU, AOKP, and Nocturnal. All of them have the same issue so I'm expecting that it's hardware.
I just don't know what to do guys. I guess I'll e-mail HTC, swing by the AT&T store in hopes of something, and call it done. I find it ****ty that the guy won't cooperate so far because truthfully I *would* at least cooperate but it's tough when he says it was working when he had it and I say it wasn't working when I had it.
BUT he says that he didn't make any calls that day. However, he "knows it was working when he gave it to me"
Guys, I just don't even know what to do. If I can't get it replaced, he completely won out on the trade. I was originally asking for + $100 and lowered it to + $50 for him. Yet he doesn't want to do anything for me.
I want to handle all of this responsibly, but I also want a completely functional phone

For what purpose, a homeowners/renters insurance claim, or something else? Don't want to sound preachy, but insurance fraud is serious business, and a federal crime. Not worth it for a phone. Homeowners insurance claims for theft also require a police report, which is also something you obviously do not want to falsify.
If the microphone was malfunctioning before you did any mods to the phone, it would seem to me that the guy scammed you. Its highly improbable it was working for him, then just "coincidentally" broke around the time he traded it.
Try unlocking again, and flashing a new ROM. Combination of RUU, then fresh ROM may make a difference. Otherwise, I don't think HTC can do a warranty repair without proof of purchase. But they can probably fix it for a fee. True, the other guy will have made out on the deal, but at least you'll have a working phone.

I did mean for the insurance claim. I didn't want to do it fraudulently which is why I asked. I wasn't sure what the exact definition of stolen (or even lost) in this regard is. But this doesn't count so that's no longer an option. Haha I now see that the AT&T warranty plan doesn't cover user idiocy, just drops and spillage.
I'll RUU again then install an AOSP ROM. I'm pretty sure it's the hardware mic that's busted though. Does speakerphone use a secondary microphone? I imagine videorecording does. If so, do the camcorder and speakerphone use the same mic?
Maybe the noisecanceling mic is screwing things up and that could be software but I think the microphone is just physically broken.
Idiot me, being the hardcore modder made changes to the phone *before* testing for the microphone. In my defense, I've owned the One X before so I knew what the hardware was capable of. I knew the current state of ROMs, so why not pick up where I left off?
I'll send HTC a pity e-mail and see where that gets me. Better to try and fail than to never have tried at all.
EDIT: I wanted to ask as well, does anyone think ROM flashing/BL unlocking etc. Really could have caused this? I mean, if it did there's no reason different software shouldn't fix it. But if it's hardware, that establishes that it's more likely that it wasn't my fault, right?
Was playing with my ATT One X, got root happy with it today, flashed an international ROM because I didn't read like I should have, got QHSUSB_DLOAD'd, phone won't turn on, no lights, just makes the USB noise when I plug it into the computer, blah blah blah, same old story. Spent all day reading threads from other people that have had the same issue here, and since I was on 2.20, it appears as if I'm pretty much FUBAR until some wizard much smarter than I figures out another linux hack to fix it. It sucks, I'm stupid, I know, but it's not my main device so I'm not hitting the panic button just yet. What I'm wondering is tho, is there a way to access my internal memory, even if I have to take apart the device? I've used the phone as a camera a lot so I've got a lot of pictures and some videos I'd like to get back. Is this possible with how bricked my HOX is? If not I guess I'll just have to wait until someone gets the QHSUSB_DLOAD fix working with 2.20.
Thanks!
Weston

Google mobile tech videos they are the only ones with a working jtag for our phone right now only thing is u gotta send it to them
http://youtu.be/yjGTP-AmEtA
Try this and see if it works for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966850
Otherwise you can call HTC and have them check the warranty. I had the same error and called them, they honored the warranty on it. I sent it in, and they sent it back all fixed up. It was a very easy process and HTC CS reps were very very nice.
If it isn't under warranty still go with what xstokerx said and send it in for jtag repair. That's about your only other option.
Here is my thread, it may help you.

Yes, mainly when playing fruit ninja though...
It randomly started happening for me probably around 6/18 (or 19th) on cm nightlies + latest cm kernel for that build date.
What rom/kernel are you using?

Thanks for replying, its been happening to me for a while, maybe a month. I am on stock, I might try a different kernel...
Only when my screen is wet or I have it plugged into my super fast charger.

I get the unresponsive touch screen sometimes when i get a call. The phone is sleeping, the call comes in and the screen lights up, but i can't slide the ring over to answer the call. I don't get a ton of calls but i would say it's been happening maybe up to half the time.
I was thinking of trying to warranty fix/replace it, but i fear they might enforce the unlocked bootloader voiding-warranty thing
My dad says the voiding warranty thing is a load of crap just to scare you. But if you change the logo and unroot it how would they know?

When they send you the unlock code, supposedly they keep a record of that tied to your serial #, even if you never even use the code to unlock your bootloader. This is what they say anyway.
But yeah, i think it is worth a try. On the Motorola page with the service link, i entered my IMEI and it let me proceed, so i might try and go thru with it.
I think it will work, what's the worst that could happen?
Yeah, absolute worst case is probably they get the phone, tell me they have to charge me x dollars to fix it, and i tell them just send it back to me as is? Lol
Lol yeah, or if you take it to a sprint store that is capable of repairs, and they tell you they want money, just snatch it out of there hand and RUN out the door!
